Have DS, 13 months. Stopped bf in Oct and immediately got pg but was chemical preg which I lost at 5 weeks. Now got BFP today, very excited. Quite faint line but definitely a line.

Anyone want to join?

oh by the way, has anyone's tummy started to stick out yet???? Bizarrly mine is definitely rounded and stick out, i am very tiny though so maybe i've noticed it more???

mum2b1 · 07/12/2007 17:08

Is anyone else restless?
I am tired but I get very uncomfortable and restless when I sit or lie down for more than about 15 mins.
I am only 7weeks gone.
Is that normal?

TwilightSurfer · 07/12/2007 18:38

Restless...normal. It's just a product of all the remodeling going on in your body. Excerise and massages are good ways to combat it.

Tummy pooched...yes last pregnancy and feel it starting again. I think the more pregnancies you have the quicker it sticks out.

Morning/Day/Night Sickness: Article in Dec/Jan FitPregnancy states "if you have morning sickness, you may be rewarded with 30% lower odds of getting breast cancer later in life." If it's severe or persists into 2nd/3rd trimesters, your risk is 40% lower....

Oh joy, I can't wait for all those symptoms to kick in. I already have the crampy, hungry and tired thing down. JUST FEED ME!!!

As for maternity clothes, is anyone shopping online for them? What shops are your favorite??

mum2b1 · 07/12/2007 19:11

I am used to working out a lot - jogging, tae-bo etc but am worried about doing these things now. I am not comfortable with the risk of 'jolting' the baby so what would you suggest? just yoga and pilates?

Thanks

PhilB · 07/12/2007 20:23

Hi. I am five weeks pregnant. My GP said running was fine, although I've also read that you have to be careful to drink regularly on runs and not overheat, so I take it easier than before and slow right down if my breathing gets too heavy. I've also continued swimming, which is great and obviously no jolting (unless you bang your head, of course!). You could replace your running with brisk walking, less impact.

I do astanga yoga normally but my teacher said to give it a break until after the 12 week scan and then modify the normal practice considerably. The pregnancy yoga classes I've found won't take me until then either. So it seems like that's almost the most risky thing to continue with as before, which is weird because it's so widely recommended (perhaps for later in the pregnancy). I suppose if you are going to do yoga make sure it's a pregnancy class or that you have a teacher you trust to advise you about what poses to avoid - my teacher said I could do gentle stretching during the break but went through what the particular ones to steer clear of in the first trimester were.

Have you asked your GP / midwife? I found the GP's advice reassuring.

mum2b1 · 07/12/2007 20:51

My GP said running was fine too but have read articles and have a friend who knew people who had miscarriages.
Maybe not cos of the running but it seems like an unnecessary risk to me personally.
Am gonna get a pregnancy pilates teacher over to the house I think.

Anyone know any good pregnancy massage therapists?

ChaCha · 07/12/2007 21:16

Twilight surfer - Isabella Oliver had beautiful maternity clothes last time i looked.

TwilightSurfer · 07/12/2007 21:22

PhilB, I don't do astanga but my yoga instructor said she would allow me to stay in class as long as my OB/GYN gave consent. I've not gone that route at the moment, just walking for now, but I've got a wonderful prenatal vinyasa yoga video by jennifer wolfe to keep me in practice. I would also recommend Tai Chi for Expecting Mothers from the Center of Natural Health...beware your legs/ankles will hurt a little at first until you build up strength. For those who want a bit of a challenge or are avid exercisers now, The Perfect Pregnancy Workout will definitely keep you toned. You can find info about that video on progressiveparent.com.

I'll be joining a prenatal yoga in January if they schedule at a time that's good for me. Swimming sounds nice too. I'd be the one who bumped her head . I wonder how it will feel to do a flip underwater after the baby's a little bigger in the belly.

TwilightSurfer · 07/12/2007 21:25

oh my ChaCha those clothes look so comfortable. Nice!!

PoinsettiaBouquets · 07/12/2007 21:33

Hello, have been lurking here but didn't really expect to be posting but hurray, got a BFP this evening! I'm 4wks+1 which I think makes for 13th Aug due date?
Anyway, I've got a 4yr old DD and a 2yr old DS and this was a year earlier than planned but we are delighted.

TwilightSurfer · 07/12/2007 21:36

Welcome PB! Just posted congrats to you on other thread so CONGRATS again.

mum2b1 · 07/12/2007 21:37

Twilight - I ahve had a look for that perfect pregnancy workout and can only see it in the USA version. where did you get in the UK version?

Thanks

TwilightSurfer · 07/12/2007 21:38

I'm in the US but the video is Canadian. I didn't realize there was a difference. I think amazon.com has it listed too...for less.

BraveNewWorld · 07/12/2007 21:45

Hiya

Can I join your swelling ranks? Found out on Saturday and confirmed with doc on Monday. Am over the moon, though finding it hard as trying not to tell anyone this early... especially suspicious pregnant friends! Am due on last day of July, though it's my first so almost certain to be in August.

Anyone else choosing between Whittington and UCL hospitals in Central/North London? Glad for any tips/warnings.

BraveNewWorld · 07/12/2007 21:50

PS mum2b1 I am also bulging and restless!

gigglegirl · 07/12/2007 21:51

Hi Brave New World,

welcome. I'm not in London myself but my sister had her little girl in the Whittington 18mths ago and they were delighted with it. My niece had jaundice and was readmitted and the care they received was excellent. I've got three kids already (all 4 and under!) and had two in hospital (diff ones) and one at home - I'd reccommend a homebirth anytime but can also understand why people opt for hospital - just think you have to keep an open mind and try and stay relaxed - you'll here stories good and bad no matter what you choose and no one can tell you what your experience will be so my advice is to just go with your gut feeling!

xx

gigglegirl · 07/12/2007 21:52

I love love love Isabella Oliver stuff - just not the prices - but coincindentallu it is two of my childrens names so will have o have a splurge on at least one this time!

gigglegirl · 07/12/2007 21:53

just looked at my typing - shocking! sorry all

PoinsettiaBouquets · 07/12/2007 22:00

Ooh ooh BNW go to UCL then Duncan from Blue can interview you whilst in labour on City Hospital! They used to film it at Southampton where I am.

PhilB · 07/12/2007 22:03

I guess on the exercise front you just do what's comfortable for you. It seems like there are lots of stories around either way for every sort of exercise - and for everything really. Anyone else eating peanuts?

I'm hoping that by generally going slower at exercise things which I'm already familiar with doing and keeping an eye out for any bad signs or weird reactions things will be OK. I would get really stressed if I felt like I couldn't do any activity.

However it's all pretty academic as I've been too knackered for the last week to even haul myself to work on time, let alone trot round a park! Twilight - I bang my head too, and I can't do those underwater flips... Sob.

PoinsettiaBouquets · 07/12/2007 22:15

I don't do exercise but I have just signed up for extra shifts of work over Xmas while DH is around to have the kids. Really hoping I can handle it as I do proper vomiting and fatigue from wk6-12. I do carework part time with long split-shifts so it's quite hard work physically but would feel worse letting people down.
Will also have to quit my yoga class. Is astanga the one where you're upside down quite a lot? I did that once and hyperventilated!

Thinking · 07/12/2007 22:21

So if you haven't got morning sickness by 6 weeks, have you avoid that for this pregnancy ?

gigglegirl · 07/12/2007 22:25

hi thinking - sadly not! I don't think I knew I was pregnant til 6 weeks with my first and MS started at about 8 weeks. The other two were somewhere between 6 - 8 weeks but this one sickness started about two days after conception and I have been soooooo sick this time - can't believe I'm only 4 weeks! Hope you escape though - lots of people do.

Thinking · 07/12/2007 22:50

Thanks gigglegirl

I escaped all sickness when pregnant with my DD. I have a bit of a thing about throwing up and I really hope I avoid it again but only time will tell.

gigglegirl · 07/12/2007 22:53

i'll keep my fingers crossed - think i'm prob being sick enough for all of us LOL!!

am going to attempt sleep now but not that hopeful!
