Have DS, 13 months. Stopped bf in Oct and immediately got pg but was chemical preg which I lost at 5 weeks. Now got BFP today, very excited. Quite faint line but definitely a line.

Anyone want to join?

And good luck fogleg - hope you get a gp out to visit. If not, our gp would put you in a 'waiting' room on your own so you couldn't infect the rest of the people waiting to see the gp. How's your dd?

browncat · 02/01/2008 09:44

ooo thanks CC- will try that and be consistent as much as possible- he is at nursery 3 days a week at the moment and he never has tantrums there apparently. Think that must be the audience thing you mentioned so will use the naughty step from now on! Enjoy the film!! xx

ChaCha · 02/01/2008 10:25

Morning all,

How is everyone today? We have some very dull weather here - i think snow has been forecast over next two days but nothing severe - i love the snow!

My DC are driving me crazy, DS1 is taking all the clothes off the airer, trying them on and then stashing them in various places. DS2 finds them, puts them on his head, drags them around...not much getting done here today

I am snacking a lot, find that i can't eat anything in the evening so building up my reserves DC are happy with constant supply of snacks.

Fog - Let us know how you and DD are.

Nowhere does slush puppies here, can you believe? I got a big bag of ice, we crused it in mixer and added some flavouring served in glass with straw - next best thing i guess.

ChaCha 8+3

p.s we had a few of those tantrums after DS2 was born, I don't really remember what happened, all a bit of a haze. They were shortlived i think. Probably didn't pay them much attention.

MollieMooma · 02/01/2008 10:42

TS- SNAP, I thought it was just something I'd been left with since my flu at Xmas, but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere, like you said it's only every now and again. and makes me cough, very wierd!
Also craving junk food i.e. MacDonalds and KFC but as soon as I eat it I throw it up! Good for the diet but not for my dh's wallet ! He's refusing to buy me anymore. Also can't eat big meals at all, or chocolate or tea, still taking it all as good signs, got early scan tomorrow, bleeding has stopped for a day now, so fingers crossed we will come out with grins on our faces

poppysocks · 02/01/2008 11:27

Morning all and happy new year!

I had my first McDonalds in nearly 3 years a couple of days ago and I'm ashamed to say that I really enjoyed that Big Mac. Last one was actually at exactly this time with DD. Must be the hormones...

Quick question for you all who are on no.2+. This is my second and I expect to expand faster than last time, but over the last 2 days I have def. gained a bump. I'm only 7+3. This didn't happen until about week 14 last time.

Yes, it's just been Christmas and I've done little but sit on my backside and/or sleep, but I haven't over-indulged, given that I've had to steer clear of everything I love. But surely I shouldn't be noticeably pregnant now?! My dates are certain, so what is going on? Have I just put on loads of Christmas weight, but just on my tummy?

Please, someone, assure me that this is normal in a second pg. Symptoms otherwise are about the same as lat time.

CaptainCaveman · 02/01/2008 11:36

Snap poppysocks - I thought I must have gained loads of weight given that my usual jeans don't fit me, but I weighed myself at mums last week and I'm only a pound or two heavier than usual. Stomach seems to have gained it's own orbit!!
Oh flip - hoping there is only one bubba in there!!!!

PennyBenjamin · 02/01/2008 11:36

Morning all, and a very happy new year to everyone.

Glad to hear everything was OK Foghorn (except for the measles!) and Mollie - fingers crossed for your scan.

Poppy - can't really help as this is my first, but I'm positive I've got a bump and I'm only 6 weeks! Of course, it's probably just the Christmas excess showing......

I'm feeling pretty dreadful again today, although still not actually being sick. Only thing that helps is toast and marmite.

Is anybody else having skin problems? It's not so much that I'm spotty, but more that my skin seem to have turned grey (!) and nothing I do seems to help. Looking really attractive with that, the dark circles, and the extra few pounds!

stickybean · 02/01/2008 11:54

Morning everyone,

Happy New year. I realised i forgot to add myself to the list.

Just made an appointment to see the midwife on friday, no idea what to expect really. I just wanted to be in 'the system' so i can the 12 week scan at 12 weeks! Have people had theirs already?

Got some pain on my right side from 2 large ovarian cysts but otherwise, as long as i eat fairly often i feel ok.
I have a scan in 2.5 weeks to check on that, i am much more concerned at seeing that the bean is still in there!
Does anyone have any experience of ovarian cysts in pregnancy?

poppysocks · 02/01/2008 11:55

Thanks for the reassurance CC and Penny. I'm also hoping that there's only one there. Lots of twins in the family, including my brother and sister and I know just how hard it was for my Mum. At least they say that it skips a generation, so fingers crossed that it is just a fortnight of sitting on the sofa and one healthy, growing bean.

Hope all ok with the measles Foghorn. We had our own scare like that with my neice and nephew arriving at Christmas having just been exposed to chickenpox and their parents hoping that they'd get it over and done with, not knowing I'm pregnant. I'm pretty sure that I've had chickenpox, but my Mum couldn't remember for sure that I've had it (the effect of having twins and me in three years!). Anyway, no spots have appeared yet, but I know how worrying it is. If you've had the booster though, you and the baby will be fine and hopefully your DD will be better soon.

Fingers crossed for your scan Mollie.

FoghornLeghorn · 02/01/2008 12:07

Have just got home from the 5 mile walk to Doc's which DD2 cried all the way through - thankfully my mum gave us a lift home - Doc says no to measles but she does have viral infection like measles. I'm so angry with the GP though, she lifted DD's vest by about an inch, saw the rash and diagnosed,no temperature check, no ear check, no chest check, didn't ask if she had any other symptoms . I walked out before I screamed at her and then was angry with myself because I had to try really hard not to burst into tears of angry and frustration.

Will catch up with rest of the thread when I've relaxed for a bit !

MollieMooma · 02/01/2008 12:12

Oh Foghorn, bless you, put your feet up and try and relax, stress is a no no! GP sounds crap - no wonder you were so mad! Sending you hugs

TwilightSurfer · 02/01/2008 13:08

Captain and Poppy I've determined that the bump (my at least) is totally gastric in nature. Over the past two weeks, as I've had constipation then diahrea (however you spell it), I've noticed the bump expand and shrink depending on how much bloating was going on. So if my tummy system were working properly I'd not "feel" or "look" pregnant at all.

I had a dreadful night of tossing and turning. Winds howled all night as the temp dropped to its lowest so far this winter. DH said their was even blowing snow around 11. Feel like crap this morning but have errands to run. DD is presently still snoozing (it's only 8am here). I attempted a little stretching last night because I've felt so tight lately and now my belly ligaments seem to hurt a little. Honestly I hardly did anything at all but now I'm worried I "over did it". How can you over do stretches?!?

DD just woke. Must begin my workday.

browncat · 02/01/2008 15:04

Oh its definitly going to snow today- its so cold! Hope everyone is wrapping up warm!
Quick question- what's the current advice on Peanuts- peanut butter to be precise, well Reeses peanut butter cups actually. I can't stop eating them . And also Diet Coke- i've just had the first one since I was pregnant with DS - normally i stay clear of it but its the amber nectar at the moment- arrrrgghhh!!!!

ChaCha · 02/01/2008 15:13

Logged on to see how you are doing Foghorn - you must be shattered, feet up as has been said - glad you didn't walk another 5 miles home!! How is DD now? Is it the 3 or 1 year old that is poorly?

Bealcain - You are due the day before me too but i'll be earlier as i'll be having another section. How are you coping with PG and the little ones? Today has been bearable, we all had a nap upstairs from 12.30-2.30 so can't complain, DS1 is still sleeping and i know i should wake him but.....

Yup think the snow is on its way....

IlanaK · 02/01/2008 16:08

My youngest fell asleep on his bed after our friends lsft. He is still sleeping now (after 4pm) and I should definately wake him or it will be a nightmare at bedtime. But I sooooo just want to let him sleep!

PoinsettiaBouquets · 02/01/2008 19:16

I've had a great day! The vomiting seems to have gone for good so I am really counting my blessings at just having nausea (as opposed to rubbing it in, I promise.)
Whole family went swimming and DS(nrly 3) amazed us all pootling about by himself with a woggle. Completely forgot until I was in the pool that I haven't shaved a thing since Octber!!! Had to have lunch out at the pool natch.
Went to play with my sister who has just taken over an e-business, got to exercise my brain with some techie stuff and to redesign her website. Her kids are a bit older so we were able to ignore them all completely LOL.

CaptainCaveman · 02/01/2008 20:35

Sounds like you had fun PB! Did you scare small children with your unshavenness?

Ds loved the Bee movie, he was laughing out loud. Cinema was packed though so we ended up right at the front craning our necks. Not good for ms when you follow a bee's eye view of flying......still, popcorn was nice, as was the ice drink I got

TS - whereabouts in the US are you?

Snow forecast in Notts for tomorrow and/or friday - that should grind the traffic to a halt then! 2 flakes and the City stops!

Is anyone else hoping to go for a VBAC? Ds was breech and the couldn't do ECV because he had his cord wrapped round his neck, so I ended up having a cs at 39+1.

PoinsettiaBouquets · 02/01/2008 20:49

I might have a VBAC but leaving it up to the baby! Hoping to book an elective for 40wks (too chicken to go over) so there's a reasonable chance baby might want to bust a move before then. Will go to NCT classes just in case but am totally 50/50 about the whole thing.

VintageGardenia · 02/01/2008 21:13

Hi everybody glad to see everyone doing well. Have been quiet over last few weeks because though initially (first week of knowing) was delighted, since then, truthfully, I have been having a bit of a difficult time coming to terms with this pregnancy, doubts & tears &c. I know it seems ungrateful and I think... maybe... I am feeling a bit better about it now. I still haven't been to a doctor yet, though we rang today & booked an appt for Monday 14th Jan. I still don't even know my dates etc. Ho hum.

Has anyone else left it this late (as in, I think I am due early Aug) before going to doc?

PoinsettiaBouquets · 02/01/2008 21:37

Hi VG, I had issues when I got pg the second time. It was accidental and came just a year after a horrible labour experience with DD. Brought back the flashbacks, terror, anger and sadness - plus had vomit m/s which didn't endear me to my bump. I was convinced if I had to deliver him naturally I would lose my mind so the bump was a ticking timebomb to my family falling apart.
All worked out in the end though, these things do. Don't be afraid to cry on your GP.

pinguin · 02/01/2008 21:49

Hi everyone, hope you're all keeping well and looking forward to the snowy weather tonight... can't be worse than this morning anyway, bloody freezing and then I missed my train because the queue for season tickets was so long... you'd think they'd put on more than one person in rush hour on 2nd Jan but no... ah the joys of commuting, what a wrench to leave my nice warm house but not as bad as usual because I didn't have that rolling 7 day Christmas hangover...

I'm sympathising with all the coke addicts, I'm finding diet coke and specially diet irn bru totally appealing at the moment. Trying to limit it to 1 can a day and no caffeine otherwise but it makes me feel great...

I meant to ask, has anyone been checking out any pregnancy books yet? I got the Rough Guide and the Miriam Stoppard one: the Rough Guide one is a bit more vague but I like the tone. Dr Miriam's one is driving me up the wall! Talk about a guilt trip: her take on pain relief in childbirth is basically "Of course, you should do whatever you think is best, but most mothers find it unacceptable that their wee ones get a higher dose of painkiller than they do if they take some during labour, and so they decide to go without." Hurm. I have a mum: I recognise guilt tripping when I see it...

VintageGardenia · 02/01/2008 22:08

Thanks Poinsettia, I think with me partly it's unhappy memories of last pregnancy (which ended up giving me the greatest happiness of my life, in my lovely son) and slightly offcentre family situation. I can make myself be rational about it and I'm sure when it actually happens it will be a blessing (well once the unbearable agony is over of course!) but at the moment just scared & panicky & am pretty much not acknowledging it. Poor old DP, who's thrilled.

VintageGardenia · 02/01/2008 22:10

Do you know, selfishly, also, I have just lost 3 stone and was feeling so happy & it was such hard work & now I will never be thin again. (Pessimist? Me? Surely some mistake?) What a dreary way to be thinking when there are so many lovely things I could be focusing on.

warthog · 02/01/2008 22:10

vintagegardenia, i think it's quite natural to feel the way you do. i do too! it's quite a gap between your first? i feel trepidation - i didn't cope that well with no. 1. had pnd and i'm really scared i'll have it again. feeling quite stressed about it actually.

pinguin, you've got plenty of time to think about pain relief. you don't have to go through childbirth with no pain relief. the nct antenatal classes are very good for giving you info.

book-wise, i found 'what to expect when you're expecting' pretty good.
