Have DS, 13 months. Stopped bf in Oct and immediately got pg but was chemical preg which I lost at 5 weeks. Now got BFP today, very excited. Quite faint line but definitely a line.

Anyone want to join?

Just realised I've not added myself to the list yet

Meanwhile:

Foghorn - so glad things turned out for the best

Mollie - hope you're feeling better

For all MSickies - here's two suggestions that I've gleaned from a couple of nurses - flat coke, also, a cup of crushed ice. For me, a bowl of slightly salted popcorn helps too.

Hey ladies - Happy New Year! I went to bed at 11.30 coz I was feeling sick and tired. We stayed with friends near Cleethorpes but we're back home in Notts now.

Bought some of those sea bands for nausea and have to say they have taken the edge of it for me. Enough that I don't feel like killing anyone who talks to me anyway

Glad your ok Foghorn, fabbo news .

Only 2 weeks til booking in appt. My norks are feckin huge! They seem to get bigger by the day. Currently filling the E cup I got at Bravissimo last week, which had a bit of 'growing room' when I got measured .

warthog · 01/01/2008 15:19

bea - coke's loaded with caffeine. not good.

high amounts of caffeine has been implicated in miscarriages and stillbirth. plus it inhibits absorption of iron.

i'd stay away if you have the choice...

Bea0001InowwishIhadabettername · 01/01/2008 15:57

Wow Warthog thanks for the warning. My newbieness is showing. As is the lack of information given to me by my gp; when i asked about foodie dos and don't she only mentioned the alcohol limitations and the (debatable, I've read here) no to soft cheese; at least my MS had turned me off tea and coffee so hopefully no caffeine damage done to my little bean. Will definately take your advice.

Bea0001InowwishIhadabettername · 01/01/2008 16:29

Still on the theme of MS: thanks to Warthog's warning I've got myself a little more informed; thought other newbies might find the following "self-help tips" useful, edited from the Blooming Awful website.

"Listen to your body - stop feeling guilty that you can't eat a healthy diet, since any diet is better than none. If your body will only allow you to eat and keep down Pop-tarts or chocolate milkshake, go ahead - we give you permission!

Eat small snacks often - even if it's just a bite of toast every hour

Eat ginger (biscuits, tea, root, stem, capsules, ale/root beer) [this reminds me that someone on this group has posted a recipe for MS ginger biscuits, which I must go back to find and try]

Eat Dry biscuits/toast, especially before getting out of bed

Canteloupe melon, papaya (pawpaw) and pineapple are all supposed to be good for digestion and have a relatively high fluid content

When symptoms occur suck on a sugar lump that has a drop of peppermint oil on it 9(NB peppermint is not suitable if you're using homeopathy)

Don't drink and eat at the same time - you might not feel better but you're less likely to vomit if you keep fluids to 30 minutes either side of eating

If you can't tolerate cold food/drinks, try hot, and vice versa.

Dissolve a teaspoon of salt and a teaspoon of sugar in a pint of hot water - drink at whatever temperature you find easiest to tolerate

Try a teaspoon of cider vinegar in a cup of warm water first thing in the morning

Sip herbal teas

If you're having trouble keeping down fluids, try Lucozade, Sprite, 7-Up, Slimfast or similar "food" drinks if you are unable to eat at all

Take Vitamin B6

Don't forget alternative medicines such as homeopathy, acupuncture and herbal remedies

Wear sea-bands (acupressure wrist bands for travel sickness - available from chemists) [I recall someone on our group recommending this]

If excessive saliva is a problem, try sucking on a very small sweet or a lemon/lime wedge, or drinking lemon/lime juice. "

PoinsettiaBouquets · 01/01/2008 17:56

Bea - Sprite is sugary and caffeine-free. But watch out you don't get indigestion with all the acidic fizzy drinks.
Anyone else feel like their teeth are rotting from all the sugar they have to take in?

DutchIndo · 01/01/2008 18:13

Sick, sick, and more sick. If i don't have a cold then I have a headache along with nauseousness. How can I take care of the rest of my family when I can't even take care of myself. Boo hoo me!! If I don't feel sorry for myself who will? I need sympathy!! I'm suppose to be jumping with glee and feeling beautiful but I feel and look like the Ogar from Shrek. What is up with that!! Deep breaths almost 10 full weeks, then I have two more weeks and hopefully when the first trimester is over, out goes the nauseousness and headaches with it. Happy New Year, happy new year, happy new year... positive thoughts right!!

ChaCha · 01/01/2008 18:44

I drank way too much coke with my previous pregnancies - only thing i could drink and it usually had to be on ice. A m/w friend kept telling me to let the gas out but it just didn't seem to do the same. I am trying not to drink it this time, lucozade seems okayish but last night after having had a really horrible sick episode with achey everything and shivers, a cold glass of coke was all that i could take and i fell straight to sleep. I agree with the tip on not drinking with food, i immediately throw up when i drink after food, i try to let it settle first.

Just had a lovely mozzeralla salad roll and feel sick already...have retreated to bed with laptop while DH baths the kids..rotten mum!

I am so glad i have somewhere to come and moan, sounds terrible, but at least i'm not alone. I have my booking appt next week at 9+1.

Thanks for the moan. Will be more sick and a bath i think. I said i'd not do this again last year...bleugh! xx

warthog · 01/01/2008 19:01

i think the general consensus is that if you drink a small amount of coffee it's ok. if you were drinking 3 cups of filter coffee and a couple of cokes a day then i'd worry.

if coke is the only thing that makes you feel better, then personally i would drink it. if other things have the same effect, i'd avoid it.

the fsa recommend no more than 300 mg per day (about 4 cups).

here's more reading if you're interested.

IlanaK · 01/01/2008 19:05

Before pregnancy I drank two very very strong coffees each day. As soon as I get pg, I go off it. I haven't had once at all this time. I wonder if its the body's way of stopping you from having caffeine?

FoghornLeghorn · 01/01/2008 19:06

I have a real craving for coke when I'm pregnant !!
It would appear things are getting worse here in Chez Foghorn - I think DD2 has come down with Measles. Have googled and every symptom she has matches, she has rash, temperature, runny nose, cough - every time she's picked up she wants to get down, every time she gets down she wants to get up, she even fell asleep in her high chair 3 times the other day ...... None of which I have taken any notice of until now, it's like a jigsaw falling into place.

Things can only get better ...... surely !

ChaCha · 01/01/2008 19:20

Oh Foghorn sending you hugs, keep us posted on how everything is. I hope you have some help at home so you can at least rest when necessary. I could not have gotten through m/s and two sick kids last week without DH - nightmare!

I cannot drink tea in pregnancy at all. It just makes me feel sick before i even look at it. Coffee - maybe a latte in a coffee shop on the odd occassion. I agree Ilana, body's way i think.

DH is still bathing the kids, they are crying their eyes out as he decided not only to wash hair but to give it a trim too The bathrooms mine for the next hour!!

warthog · 01/01/2008 19:27

foggyleggy, i'm so sorry. you're having a really rough time of it. do you have help with the kids during the day?

i agree - i think your body tells you what you need. i have also gone off coffee, and i normally LOVE it! the thought of a coke is very tempting, so there must be some ingredient that our bodies need?

wasn't coke originally a stomach medicine?

hardygirl · 01/01/2008 19:30

Foghorn - have you had measles or are you immunised? Also is your daughter immunised? Depending on your age you would have received either a single vaccine (I was immunised in the early 70's), MMR or nothing. If you haven't had measles you may not be immune and this is risky for your pregnancy. There is a surge in measles at the moment - generally due to unimmunised children. Chances are your child doesn't have measles as lots of things look like it and it's still fairly uncommon. Please go to the GP and get your daughter checked out - and if it is measles you may well need seeing yourself. Don't want to scare you, but you can't be too careful in early pregnancy.
Have a look at this

PoinsettiaBouquets · 01/01/2008 20:16

Chacha, if you want to email me I can send you my subliminal anti-morning sickness track. I've stopped vomiting since using it (although it might just have been the vomiting virus that appeared around 6w). Still feeling nauseous but that's manageable. Worth a try though - anyone who's throwing up is welcome to it too.
[email protected]

FoghornLeghorn · 01/01/2008 20:22

Thanks all.
Hardygirl - I had a booster in 2005 when I took DD1 for her MMR, there had been an outbreak in our area and they were giving boosters to everyone under 25.
Will this cover us ? Or is the baby at risk regardless of whether I am covered ?
I am going to walk to the GP's tomorrow and get her checked over.
No help unfortunately - DH is back at work tomorrow and straight away is away until Friday night leaving me with no car

hardygirl · 01/01/2008 20:45

Foghorn - I'm very glad to hear you had a booster. If you are immunised everything should be fine. Best to get your daughter checked out - it might not be measles - but I'll sleep better tonight knowing you had a booster.

It's not talked about much because until recently kids just didn't get measles, mumps and rubella. Unfortunately now they do. I know I'm immune to rubella for example but some people aren't and I think the public underestimate the risk to newly pregnant ladies because there's not the publicity there used to be. Anyway - good news, and I hope your poorly little girl feels better soon.

CaptainCaveman · 01/01/2008 21:08

I'm so thirsty and bored of whats on offer in my fridge. The down side is I will have to go out and fetch something that I fancy...unless I can persuade dh to do the honours. Not likely with Best of Top Gear about to start.

It really does feel nice to be able to come on here and moan without someone getting bored of me moaning!! (or at least if you are bored, you are polite enough not to say so!!). So Thank You fellow pg ladies xxx

Anyone want anything whilst I nip out to the shop?

SKF · 01/01/2008 22:47

Chocolate milkshake please - only got strawberry flavour in.

TwilightSurfer · 01/01/2008 23:04

All the morning sickness remedy stuff looks wonderful. I've been living off of decaf cokes myself. I like to pour just a little bit over ice, let it foam then add a little more...seems to give it the best flavor. I'm also still stucking on green olives in the morning. This I think is bizarre but seems to make me feel better.

I've got a complaint that I've not heard anyone discuss. Does anyone feel like they have a heart murmur or bubbles in their chest on and off? I don't know any other way to describe the sensation. I'm not fainting and my fingertips/lips are turning blue so I don't believe it to be harmful but it's a really weird sensation that doesn't seem to be going away. It even makes me slightly cough occassionally like I'm just getting over a chest cold, or something. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Dinner tonight was wonderful but dull: roast from my slow cooker, mashed potatoes and rolls. Last night was better: grilled chicken, french cut green beans, new potatoes and stuffing. Seems I'm suddenly cooking every night. I'VE NEVER DONE THAT BEFORE. I just have this desire for good wholesome food AND McDONDALDS JUST DOESN'T CUT IT. Venturing out tomorrow in search of good tomatoes because I think tomorrow's dinner will be baked chicken, rice with broccoli and tomatoe wedges. What is happening to me and who is this women cooking every night???

7+3 today. I'm one week away from what was the beginning of the end of my last pregnancy. I'm oddly very calm about it. I will see my OB/GYN next Monday at 8+2 (the day before it all began to crash). Can't wait!!

Here's another odd question: Is anyone exercising?? Walking, yoga, swimming?? I feel like a need to move but don't have the energy to do it at the moment. Just looking for a little inspiration.

TwilightSurfer · 01/01/2008 23:17

sucking not stucking...i can't type!!

I almost forgot. As for morning sickness I've been eating candy canes. My DH laughed because when I came home from the store a few days ago I had 8 boxes (40 canes each). I figure I have enough to make it till delivery. You got to do what you got to do!!

FoghornLeghorn · 02/01/2008 06:39

DD is now covered. Not so much her legs but her face, neck, tummy and back are totally covered and it definitely looks like measles.
I'm going to call the GP's as soon as they open and see if someone can come out, I don't want to take her incase she is contagious

warthog · 02/01/2008 08:08

good idea.

browncat · 02/01/2008 08:38

Happy New year everyone! Hope it was a good one for all! Anyone else feel very smug not having a hangover on New years day! Well I did, and it lasted about 5 minutes until morning (all day!) sickness kicked in. Its my own fault- I had been bragging to my mum the week before how great I feel!!! Now I need to eat constantly (shame!) to stop the sickness. Has anyone gone off coffee? My favorite thing in the morning and I can't face it!! My DS has hit toddler BIG style this week- tantrums galore!! If he doesn't get his own way he has an absolute fit- banging his head on the floor and screaming at the top of his voice- his grandfather nearly passed out when DS did it yesterday !! Any tips for handling these?

CaptainCaveman · 02/01/2008 09:40

Ooh my sympathies browncat - I see you lo is 18 months old, perfect tantrumming age! I believe I started time out/naughty stair with ds around this age. I think just putting him out of my eyesight, whilst being very clear to him why he was being put there, was enough to make him understand that screaming ab dabs won't win him any attention, and will in fact result in him not having an audience to perform to.
The trick is to be consistent - so whoever looks after you lo must apply the same standards of behaviour.
Dh took a little longer to grasp the 'not shouting but telling' concept. ie. don't lose it and shout back but stay calm (hard when your lo is trying to kick the crap out of you!) and tell them what they've done that you don't like, and that they have to spend X time on the naughty stair.
Good luck though, it's very hard when they start tantrumming!!

Hope everyone is ok today (as ok as you can be with ms!). Ds and I are off to watch the Bee movie. Ds is practically spinning on his head with excitement
