Anyone want to join?

I'm drinking about 2 litres a day at the moment, but that's not unusual for me, so not sure whether that's useful or not!

TwilightSurfer · 20/12/2007 17:27

{{{Twilight raises her hand}}} YES I can't seem to get enough water these days.

miamla · 20/12/2007 17:31

just posted a little update of the list. i've been quiet the last week because i had some bleeding last wednesday/thursday. was incredibly scared and worried but my local EPU were fantastic. Booked me in for a scan on Tuesday and we saw our little Pip's heartbeat. It truly was the most amazingly beautiful thing in the world!
I'm currently 8weeks+2
As for symptoms, incredibly dizzy (i'm getting my blood tested in the morning), nipples still v sensitive, feel a bit queasey but not been sick yet.I've been feeling absolutely shattered but it hasn't helped that i've had a bad cold. I was so sleepy the other night I could easily have slept through the Pogues at Brixton! Oh and not forgetting my bump! Good grief! How can something only 13mm long need so much room!!
I'll be in maternity stuff by Christmas at this rate! Oh and yes, I am definitely feeling the cold. i was told the fleece top i've been sleeping in could really do with a wash because it smells...but what will i wear if its in the wash?!
As for people we've told, I've told people who i could rely on for support if things went wrong. a few friends and both our sets of parents. Its really quick cool, one of my friends (who is reasonably local) is due 7 days before me with her third. So she's a seasoned pro! I'm also really lucky because another friend is a trainee midwife, yet another really useful resource.
We're planning on giving my siblings a christmas card from Pip. there's no way i'll get away with not drinking at christmas so think its best we tell them. I'll be 9 weeks by then. is the danger period really until 12 weeks or can i breath a little easier because of the scan results?
I'm so sorry to all those who have had to leave our thread, my thoughts and prayers are with you x x

PennyBenjamin · 20/12/2007 17:38

"Pip"!

longwayfromhome · 20/12/2007 18:30

Hi. I'm due August 18th. I've never been pregnant before, so this is all very new. Feeling nauseous at the moment, but quite excited too. Greetings to all.

mummypud · 20/12/2007 18:42

welcome longway xx

IlanaK · 20/12/2007 19:24

Well I had to dig out my belly belt today from previous pregnancies so I could close my trousers! I am only 7+5! As its a third pregnacy I wonder if that's why I am getting bigger quicker. My breasts are getting huge and very sore. And for me the nausea is all day long. Truthfully, I hate being pregnant. I don't understand all those people that bloom and glow in pregnancy. If I could beam the baby in just before delivery, I would be much happier!

Ok, now to a question - the alcohol thing. I don't drink much - almost never actually. But I really didn't think half a glass of something at christmas would be that big a deal. Is everyone totally going to avoid alcohol? I am fairly lax about the food thing. I eat peanuts/peanut butter (but then I gave them to my children young too), and soft cheese. I don't do shellfish as i have an allergy to it anyway. I hadn't thought about the pate. Maybe I am too lax?

lewisham · 20/12/2007 19:48

Hello to all,

I have just had my scan today was very nervous, we saw the sack all in the right place so that is great was disappointed as no heartbeat as yet too small and he thinks i am just 6weeks and due about 17thAug. More precise date next week.Usual to see foetal heartbeat post from 6+5/7 weeks, was hoping to see the heart beat for Christmas and it would seem more real. He was Such a nice man v reassuring and said not to worry about lack of symptoms so to all you others concerned like me it is not an issue but can change from day to day he said just count yourself lucky.
Have a scan pic but lack the computer skills to put the photo on mumsnet how do I do it?
Hope you have good evenings and dont have too bad ms.
I am about to have a small glass of Champagne with ddh prob only manage a sip as the smell of alcohol makes me queasy. My theory is alittle bit of what makes you happy and relax must be good i would steer clear of liver and shell fish also i think the body tells you what you should not be eating drinking.

Also v thirsty esp throughout the night.
xx

lewisham · 20/12/2007 20:03

pennybenjamin,
I am in West London and have decided to slash out and go private at St Mary's Paddington - The Lindo Wing, with a Mr Teoh( know nothing about him) my sisters had thier ds & dd at QC one private one in the birthing unit -no drugs - (birthing pool)last Aug it happened to be empty so she had complete attentionv nice male midwife and her own room afterwards total luck. My other sister had a v bad time on the conventional labour ward (as was more complicated ).
I have heard that going private in C&w is risky in that they cant guarentee you a private room if there is an emergency they give yr room up so you have to go on nhs ward but care is good.
Hope that this is helpful

lewisham · 20/12/2007 20:15

oops i meant SPLASH out

MollieMooma · 20/12/2007 20:31

Hi to all the newcomers
Lewisham - how exciting to see something, anything, everything! I had first appointment with MW today she booked my scan for 15th Jan when I will be 10+3 (i think)
At least with Christmas and New Year I'll have less time for people to notice at work - my endless trips to the loo, constant yawning and spotty chin!

CaptainCaveman · 20/12/2007 20:46

Evening ladies - nausea has started slightly earlier tonight at 8pm instead of 9pm....all for a good cause though eh!

I plan to have a glass of wine at Christmas - as long as I can stomach it. Ooh, I do miss the white wine . Have had a glass of red this week but it gave me indigestion.

Re. those not drinking and looking for an excuse - Metronidazole (Flagyl) is one antibiotic that causes projectile vomiting. Often given for dental abcesses etc. Claim that you are taking this! Alcohol strictly to be avoided with this antibiotic!!

hardygirl · 20/12/2007 21:00

I'm thinking about hypnobirthing. There's already a thread on this - but I thought I'd mention it. There's a course very close to me and it sounds like something worth investigating. Quite like the sound of learning to relax properly - could come in useful generally! Apparently babies born this way are quite chilled out too!

lewisham · 20/12/2007 21:28

could not stomach the Champagne what a waste.
Hardy girl - am also looking into hypnobirthing heard it can really work I will let you know any more info when i get it

pertelote · 20/12/2007 23:38

Hi all. Finally finished work for Christmas so looking forward to lots of lazing around and absolutely no rush-hour trains!

I was worried about people noticing I wasn't drinking at a party last weekend but in fact I realised that once you've accepted a glass of wine no-one actually notices whether you're drinking it or not! Every so often I 'lost' it and poured myself another or said 'I'd better have some water before you top me up AGAIN!' and no-one batted an eyelid. And of course the next morning I was knackered and nauseous just like everyone else...

Now Boxing Day lunch with the in-laws will be a bit trickier - they're French. I feel quite relaxed about a single glass of bubbly and a little bit of smelly cheese but the foie gras might not be such a good idea

LadyOfWassail · 21/12/2007 00:49

Welcome any necomers!

I am living on ginger ale, ginger biscuits and cans of pepsi at the moment - there is 8 donuts in the fridge and I can't even look at them! The first few months are so miserable, you think you will never feel well again! Anyone giving birth at Frimley Park? I went there last time, I hope they let me again - they might push me to go to Heatherwood which basically means Wexham Park which I really do not want to go to. I am finally seeing midwife for a semi appointment (just a blood test and book a scan) on monday which'll have to do for now since I could be 11/12 weeks already (by dates). I thought smoked salmon was ok? I lived in it last pregnancy - ooops! As for drinking, I will probably have some bucks fizz Christmas day if I can stomach it and guinness everynow and again - I drank like a fish at the Christmas Meet-up which now I found out I may have been already pregnant for!

TheApprentice · 21/12/2007 09:28

Morning everyone. I nearly threw up this morning after one mouthful of rice crispies but managed not to - just! Thanks Poinsettia for the recipe for ginger biscuits, I will try them when I get back from all the Christmas visiting. We are driving down from Scotland to Oxford tonight (with Ds, nearly 1 who will hopefully sleep), and then on to East Anglia on Sunday. I'm dreading it all really, especially as we dont want anyone toknow yet (I have told a friend but no one else).

Will not be able to Mumsnet for a week so just to say all the best to all of you and hope you have a very merry Christmas albeit not a tipsy one!

PoinsettiaBouquets · 21/12/2007 10:02

Re hypnobirthing: there's an ebay shop called Woodland Lifecoaching (or similar) that does loads of really cheap hypno CDs, I've got a great de-stress one from there. Being a half-arsed kind of gal I plan to buy one of their birthy ones.
Re clothes for small bumps: Peacocks have a sale on and have lots of tops ideal for this. Imagine the kind of high-waisted v-neck with a tie back and long floaty front - really flattering on your new bigger boobs and no tummy gap.

PoinsettiaBouquets · 21/12/2007 10:05

Having a crap day btw, stuck indoors as DD has been throwing up since last night and can't even keep water down, DS has cabin fever and I've just thrown up my breakfast. Oh well, at least I can say I've got her bug til Christmas.

hardygirl · 21/12/2007 10:59

Poinsettia - sorry to hear you're feeling crap! I've been a bit queasy all morning and consequently have been eating like a piggy. Mini Cheddars are particularly attractive I find! Hope you feel better soon.

PoinsettiaBouquets · 21/12/2007 14:46

Just texting DH to get mini cheddars on his way home

pinguin · 21/12/2007 15:22

Hi everyone, just catching up on the posts now I'm off work for the holidays.

Went to the doctor's on Monday, totally underwhelming - I'd been busy reading Dr Miriam and all her stuff about choices and homebirth etc and then the doc was like "do you want the Lister or the QE2 hospital?" That's the NHS definition of choice... not that I mind, give me all the technology you got! Anything to distract me...

Feel free to stab me as I'm feeling great just now! Very slight MS when I'm hungry (resorted to breaking bits off the bread and eating it on the way round Tesco's last night) and I'm dead tired and freezing cold all the time but generally I think I must be feeling the benefit of being off the sauce for the longest time since I was 18!

Not looking forward to going up to see the folks - don't want to tell them till after the scan, my mum had 4 MCs before me and will worry like crazy, I know. Hoping the boy will do his duty and drink my wine for me but my mother has eyes like a hawk and will def spot that something is going on.

I've only told my work - I work with chemicals so I needed to tell my boss and a friendly colleague who does all the handling of dangerous stuff for me at the moment. Also got referred to occ health where the nurse gasped in horror that I'm still cycling to work. Hey, as long as the bump isn't touching the handlebars...

LadyOfWassail · 21/12/2007 18:30

The Apprentice - have a nice Christmas too with your visiting x
