Have DS, 13 months. Stopped bf in Oct and immediately got pg but was chemical preg which I lost at 5 weeks. Now got BFP today, very excited. Quite faint line but definitely a line.

Anyone want to join?

Eating is the only cure for nausea for me. I feel like my body is using so much energy metabolising and doing babygrowing things, that I simply can't eat enough, hence the nausea! Threw up a little last night and realised I hadn't eaten for an hour or two.
Going to a family party tonight, will say I'm driving home as a present for DH. Plan to stuff myself solid all evening as that will be less conspicuous than me barking like a seal into the loo .
DH says he's giving up smoking in the new year, I'm so pleased (I gave up just like that when I got my BFP).

Shazza2002 · 20/12/2007 10:33

Morning all.

Keep feeling nauseous (sp?) but not anything actually happening, but I guess that's a good thing. Boobs are really filling my bra's now, was already a DD cup so bit worried, my sister who is a B cup already thinks it's hilarious to put my bra's on her head! Also, so bloody cold, I know it's cold outside but because I've always carried an extra bit of weight it's normally been enough to keep me warm, but not at the moment

librallady Really pleased to see the picture of your baby. Rememeber you from the TTC thread. So pleased it's going well. Are you going to find out what flavour it is?

Hi to everybody else.

PennyBenjamin · 20/12/2007 10:33

I know what you mean about the drink avoidance - I am currently "on antibiotics for a chest infection" Can't wait until January when I can tell people I'm doing a month's detox.

Went to see the doctor last night, to officially put myself into the system. Scary! When I told him I was pregnant he said "Well, looking at your face, I can tell that this is good news!" - Realised I was wearing a massive grin!

Suppose I had better think about hospitals now - anyone else in west London? Actually, would be great to know where everyone is?

Shazza2002 · 20/12/2007 10:40

pennybenjamin I'm in West London! Going to Queen Charlotte's (well I hope).
Went to doctors as soon as I found out cause I know they get very booked up, especially with Aug/Sep being busy months. Anyway, called the booking team on Monday no record of my referral letter. So anyway in the end I went to docs and faxed the letter myself yesterday. They confirmed that should be ok for Aug, but the problem was fitting me in Jan for my first appointment and scan. Which is so bloody annoying cause that's the whole reason I went to the docs as soon as I found out. Anyway sorry to rant grrrrrrr

About QC. Had my first DD there in 2002, I know that's a long time ago, but my sister was back there in 2005 and pretty much the same. Nice and clean, antenatel care very good (was admitted when I was 38 weeks cause of high blood pressure, protein, was made very comfortable and looked after well). Aftercare not so great but I think that's said of a lot of hospitals, priority is getting baby out, once they've done that they want you out!. HTH

PennyBenjamin · 20/12/2007 10:53

Hi Shazza! ~waves~

Thanks for the info, that's really useful. We are in a bit of a quandry at the moment, as QC is incredibly inconvenient (not sure I fancy trying to fight my way through the traffic while in labour!), while C&W is really close, although have heard some bad things.

Am starting to wonder whether to go private at C&W, as I have some savings I'm prepared to spend, and it might be worth it just to give me peace of mind as this is my first. Any thoughts?

hardygirl · 20/12/2007 11:08

I am booking at Kingston as it's so convenient. I thought about C+W as I worked there in the past and I like the midwives and the NNU - but it's just too far to travel and the parking is awful. I just couldn't face dragging myself out on public transport at 36 weeks or paying for a taxi to sit in traffic for 2 hours. Anyone else around SW Lon/Surrey/Middx?

Shazza2002 · 20/12/2007 11:21

It is a very difficult choice to make. To be honest when I had my first DD I was only 22, so automatically went to the nearest hospital as I suppose I was a bit niaeve (sp?) about the whole pregnancy/birth process. Never worried about possible m/c or problems. But now I feel so much older and wiser and feel like I know more, although starting to wonder if knowing to much can cause unnecessary worry Anyway my point at the end of all that, did I mention one of my PG symptoms is rambling? Is I went there by chance and happy with the choice. But everybody has heard good/bad stories about every hospital so best to do what feels right for you.

If you have the money to go private then worth checking out exactly what 'extra' do you get for your money. I think at QC if you go private you basically get seen on your antenatel appointments ontime , dedicated midwife, doctor, and get a nicer bed in a nicer ward afterwards. I'm sure there's more to it than that though.

hardygirl Friend had waterbirth at Hillingdon in Aug just gone. She had a really good experience and said the midwife was fab

Shazza2002 · 20/12/2007 11:21

Sorry hardy thought you were asking about hospitals in middlesex, if I'd have read properly I'd have seen you're already booked at Kingston. oooppp sorry

MollieMooma · 20/12/2007 11:42

Oh my I'm reading your thoughts on hospitals and feel a bit worried that I only have one hospital - no choice! I've heard a few horror stories from friends about being left before being cleaned up and stiched for 6 hrs so dreading it, but alternatively don't want a home birth as I'm a bit paranoid something might go wrong and we need the medical support of a hospital!
What to do, what to do!

Shazza2002 · 20/12/2007 11:45

molliemooma First time round I had a choice but didn't even realise it/use it. You do hear horror stories about all hospitals, as people are more likely to tell other people bad things than if they've had a good experience. Please, I hope I haven't worried you or anybody

PennyBenjamin · 20/12/2007 11:52

I know, it is a difficult choice, and a bit scary! I was a bit worried about C&W, but then I took a reality check and realised that people do generally only tell the horror stories and not the good ones. My GP seemed very happy to send me to C&W.

I think going private at C&W means being on a completely different ward with its own team of nurses and midwives. I don't have any illusions that it will be like a boutique hotel (Portland anyone?) but I suppose I would like to think that you might not be subject to the main gripes, like being left on your own for ages, and there not being enough people to do stitches etc.

Anyway, probably going to go and have a look round, so I'll let you know!

PoinsettiaBouquets · 20/12/2007 12:31

MollieMooma, this is where having a mum-friend as your birth partner is better than taking your DP. DPs (esp 1st time dads)tend to go quite submissive and don't like to cause a fuss whereas someone who's had her own baby will kick arse for you!

PoinsettiaBouquets · 20/12/2007 12:38

Anyone want my foolproof easypeasy recipe for ginger cookies to stave off the nausea?

Grease or nonstick-line 3 baking trays and preheat oven to 170(150fan)/325.
In a medium saucepan melt 4oz butter, 3tbsp golden syrup and 3oz brown sugar. Turn off the heat. Mix 1tbsp water with 1tsp bicarb of soda and stir in to pan. Stir in 8oz plain flour, 1.5tsp dried ginger and 0.5tsp mixed spice.
Roll into balls and place on trays 5cm apart - makes about 24.
Bake for 15mins or until tops crack a bit. Leave for 2mins then transfer to racks to cool.

hardygirl · 20/12/2007 12:57

Am going to sneak in for an early scan at 7-ish weeks just to see what's going on. Can't wait till 12! Won't be in time for Xmas though - so no red wine, no champers, no blue cheese (yummy)- and not able to tell anyone why! I'm going to claim stress induced gastritis and drink something lovely and soothing- or alternatively, allow a glass to be poured for me and rely on my husband to make it miraculously disappear!

MollieMooma · 20/12/2007 13:18

Thanks girls, your probably right you do always here the bad stories rather than the good, I'm sure there will be plenty more things for me to worry about over the next 7.5 months! First MW appointment this afternoon, feeling nervous but don't know why!

boHOHOhemianbint · 20/12/2007 13:22

Hello,

Bit late off the mark here but can I join in please? Found out a week ago that I'm due around the 22nd August!

MollieMooma · 20/12/2007 13:29

Hi Boho - Welcome
Can I ask a question? My friend brought me a McFlurry today and I nearly bit her hand off to eat it, afterwards Mum (who unfortunately works with me) said you shouldn't have eaten that when your pregnant (obviously no-one else at work knows so she didn't tell me at the time) Is this right?

boHOHOhemianbint · 20/12/2007 13:48

Hi Mollie,

I've heard that about soft ice cream, I think it's the risk of listeria or something. However, it's not a massive risk and I'm sure you'll be fine. I was necking night nurse last week if it makes you feel any better!

MollieMooma · 20/12/2007 14:38

Oops no more McFlurry's then! I was naughty before we found out too, dh and I went to the Good Food show 3 days before we had our BFP and I ate and drank so much, explains why I felt so drunk so quickly maybe?

poppysocks · 20/12/2007 15:45

In my last pg I played things by the book - as far as I knew. No booze was fine and so was the shellfish and pate, but the cheese..... I now discover the smoked salmon and salami/parma ham are forbidden (obvious when I think about it ) but I ate loads, partic. smoked salmon throughout(for the omega-3 ). DD is fine.

This time I've decided that while I'll still steer clear of the shellfish and pate, with the rest I'm just going to limit myself to a small bit every now and then. Fingers crossed that'll be ok.

We're off to France for Christmas. Can't believe all the wine and cheese I'll have to pass up! As everyone knows how much I love it there's no way we'll be able to get away with not spilling the beans. Can't think of an excuse for no cheese!

PennyBenjamin · 20/12/2007 16:00

Can I ask everyone another question?

Who have you told?

Only DH and I know so far (apart from GP!), and I have this feeling that telling anyone would be tempting fate. It's just so early and anything could happen. Am dying to tell my Mum though.

SKF · 20/12/2007 16:26

I have told a very close female friend who is also pg. DH has told a male friend whose wife is pg.

We are telling parents at Christmas, then will tell friends once scan is done.

Is hard keeping it to myself though.

Well MS hit full on this morning. It was horrible as I've got a bit of a stuffy nose so the whole barfing thing was complicated. Have noticed in the past couple of hours that food does ease the nausea (DUH!). I think this pregnancy has made me a bit dumb!!
