Not very original, but the thread WAS becoming ridiculously big.

OP posts:

Ah glammama - I tried that yesterday but fumbled the keyboard and then the mouse and missed out by about 2 seconds! Damn my pregnancy clumsiness!

I saw my friend last night. She is so much happier being at home but was really grateful for books, magazines, CDs, DVDs and general girlie chat. They've scheduled a CS at 38 weeks if she manages to last that long. Her baby already weighs 6lb 11oz at 34 weeks (!) so I don't think there's really any concern if he/she is born now though!!!

Off to attempt some Christmas shopping this evening, although most of it will be done on the internet this weekend.

Hope you all have a good day!

MerlinsBeard · 29/11/2007 10:01

according to past posts, Amazon are notoriously rubbish at this time of year.

For ebayrers..try one of these....auctionsniper bidnapper esnipe

yardette · 29/11/2007 13:44

Hi all
Well, its been weeks and weeks since I posted. I still lurk now and then, but just got caught up with a number of stuff going on - trying to finish renovating house, Christmas shopping, nursery and baby stuff shopping, trying to learn to drive and pass driving test, keep down a full time job, finishign writing a (legal textbook) book I've been writing for ages before twins arrive.... AARRGGHHH!!

Anyway, all well with me and the twins. Getting hilariously huge, but all happy and healthy. great to hear all of you are doing fine as well.

Take care all of you
Yardette

I had a lovely commuter experience on the Central Line this morning- a girl motioned me from halfway down the carriage and said, "would you like to sit down?" I went over (croweded train) and said "thank you so much, that's very kind" to which she replied, "you're welcome, I saw you waiting on the platform."
Made my day!

Prisci · 29/11/2007 16:19

Thank you for the insurance tips, got one from the Post Office, they seemed oddly efficient, never experienced good service from them before, I guess it is because it is run by another company really.

Same issue, with Amazon, so ended up doing shopping online with the Fnac.com, whom also for once were efficients, but only good if you want french books, etc....

Is anyone fedup with shopping at the moment, I usually love that time of the year, planning etc...but this year I just can't tolerate having a lot of people around. The same on the tube, anyone touching me slightly or playing music slightly loudly and I almost want to go for the kill....grrrrrr....

Otherwise, very much enjoying the kicks and feeling normal apart from the hormones....but getting more and more worried about giving birth.

MumOfBillyTheKid · 29/11/2007 17:15

Prisci - join the club on starting to worry about giving birth! Also worrying that I keep forgetting to do pelvic floor exercises... [reminder to self to do them now and each time on MN!]

I tell you, after the relief of the scan yesterday, I must have slept very well - woke up on DPs pillow - was apparently snoring at him.... when I rolled onto my back, my bump was lopsided - all over to the right hand side - poor LO must have moved over to avoid being squashed. Took all morning to move back - looked very odd, poor thing

Being clumsy at the mo, and pregnancy brain kicking in with work stuff - the guys I work with are starting to think I'm mad . Was very nice - just filled in my forms for maternity leave and reminded my boss I'll only be back for 5 1/2 weeks after Xmas break! The countdown has begun!

skidoodle · 29/11/2007 22:38

hey yardette, good to hear from you not that I've been around here much myself recently.

speaking of house renovations, it only dawned on me yesterday (although apparently everyone else in my family from husband to mother to sister had figured it out) that we are not going to have our house ready in time for the baby. there's too much work to do and we don't even have drawings finished yet. I guess only a totally impractical fool like me would even have thought it was a slim possibility it would get done by some miracle.

So we have to decide whether to try to bring the baby home to a house without a proper bathroom and no washing machine or rent a place for a few months when I'll be heavily pregnant and for the first while of the baby home. sort of a pain in the arse really, but not much can be done at this stage.

Somehow I thought I'd be able to manage living in a house with building going on during my 8th & 9th month and do without luxuries like heat and a toilet. How I manage to look after myself I will never know. I feel like such a complete eejit to have only just figured this out.

(small tear)

MarchMum · 30/11/2007 01:29

Hello all - up late again as LO does not want to sleep these days until about 2 or 3 (Then "she" sleeps all morning and dh makes fun of me). Was working well to read mumsnet in bed but when I started typing dh woke up and kicked me out!

Now that I have the major supplies sorted, my mind is turning to two things - why in the hell haven't I been doing kegels daily and how the hell am I going to get this baby out? Still doing the epidural vs non in debate in my head and wondering if I should be investing in hypnobirthing, doula, etc. Stressing me out a bit until I read this great book called Stand Up and Deliver. No major conclusions yet but good info on all the options. Has anyone written their birth plan yet? Does anyone believe it will be used if you do is actually a better question!!

Someone asked about classes - I am doing the waterbirth class and then breastfeeding course at the Active Birth Centre in N1. (I think they still have spots open in their prenatal classes by the way). And we're doing the NCT class in Fulham in early Feb which was the closest available.

I also found this potentially interesting class from Sitaram called 'birthing rehearsal'. It's a partner and mum class for those who have been doing yoga - to practice birthing positions and breathing. You're meant to go 2 weeks before your due date.

One more week until our meet-up - it will be so fun to see what every one looks like with their bumps. As someone else said, anyone welcome! And not that this should be a necessary entrance fee but I thought it was nice last time when people brought things they weren't using anymore to share.

On to do late night internet research on delivering placenta and the like :.)

HolidaysQueen · 30/11/2007 09:15

Yardette - so lovely to hear from you. I was wondering how you and the twins were doing!

Skidoodle - I empathise on the house situation. We're planning a very small extension and downstairs loo for January and I've suddenly got a bit nervous about getting that done given heating and water may be on/off for a little while. However, I'll still be at work at that point so hoping I won't notice too much, and we need the extension at least to store all sorts of baby paraphernalia (no room for pram otherwise) so it needs to be done. But it's nowhere near as big a project as yours. Is there any way they can do the heating, bathroom etc. first so that you at least have a functioning house (if not a pretty one!)? If not then maybe renting for a short while would be good - you may find you really need a calm, clean, unchaotic place just before and just after the birth anyway, so might be a much better option however much of a pain!

Marchmum - Loving all your research on births - I'll no doubt need to pick your brains at some point! I need to decide between birth centre and delivery suite at Queen Charlotte's. Both allow water births and have gas and air, but I think only the delivery suite has epidurals. I'm not really sure that I want to condemn myself to a completely unassisted birth first time round as I have no idea how I'll react. However birth centre has private rooms with double beds which means DH can stay with me the whole time I'm in, and it's generally a much less medicalised environment which I think will be really calming. I suppose if I pick the birth centre they can always transfer me if necessary, whereas they wouldn't transfer me the other way. At least I don't have to make a decision until the day - apparently because my pg is basically normal, provided I get the all clear on my placenta, I can just pick on the day and phone up whichever unit I want to go to.

skidoodle · 30/11/2007 10:32

thanks HQ, thanks for the reassuring words I think the worst thing was feeling so much of a gobshite for being so totally disorganised. But I think I just have to live with the fact that that's what I'm like but I'm good at figuring things out and coping. No point getting into "I'm an inadequate mother" agonies at this stage.

On the birthing centre/delivery suite - are you sure you have to make up your mind beforehand? I assumed that's what I would have to do in my hospital, but when I asked the midwife she said I could decide when I came in, i.e. if my labour seemed to be progressing well and I wasn't having any issues I could go to the "home from home" centre and but if I felt I needed more pain relief or things were going slowly I could choose (or they might send me) to the delivery ward.

Her attitude seemed to be "well how can you know in advance how you'll labour, since it's your first time". I found that made sense to me and I'm really glad I don't have to make a firm decision. I'm going to try for a natural, birthing centre birth but I know the other option is there if I need it. You might find you have the same flexibility.

MarchMum - I haven't got a birth plan. I've read a NCT book about the birth (well I've read that bit of the book) and it was very interesting, but I haven't done much other investigating. Still feels very far off.

A friend recently had her first baby in about an hour and didn't even make it out of casualty, but the baby came out while she was standing in a cubicle in casualty talking to a midwife who was about to take her up. The midwife had to catch the baby as it basically just came falling out in a big rush! I think i'm hoping for something similar (but less dramatic).

e14mum · 30/11/2007 10:37

Morning!

I am trying not to think of a birth plan until a little closer to the day... have only just been able to read labour stories! Probably should start though. I'm hoping to go to a birthing centre too and love the idea of DH being able to stay in the room with me afterwards.

In terms of classes, I was contacted about the December NCT ones in our area, but decided it was a bit early, so I'm waiting to hear about the Jan/Feb ones.

I just finished reading Becoming a Mother by Kate Mosse. Anyone else read it? I really enjoyed it. (also a good one to carry on public transport!)

E x

preggersagain · 30/11/2007 10:53

Morning ladies- Hopefully i'm going for the cough twice and its all over approach to labour ! In reality you won't know what its like until you're there and in pain! You can't plan labour- hence why i shall not even have a birth plan!

my belly feels like a washing machine today! very strange!

Had a mw appt yesterday- girls both fine, slight worry over the itchyness so have done a liver function test and took blood for random glucose testing. I'm measuring 30 cm for the fundal measurement so am officially the size of an elephant, and its only going to get worse!

Hope everyone else is doing well- stop panicing about the birth- its too late to worry now- you've GOT to do it, and at the end you get a fluffy bundle of baby!!

3madboys · 30/11/2007 12:15

hello all

preggars i have had the sae liver function test because of itchiness, it was negative but as i am still itchy they are going to do it again at my next check on the 18th dec, just to be sure

all well here, bump wriggly as ever, i am starting to get organised, sorted out baby clothes etc, and have written a list of bits i need, not much but i thought i would get a new breast pump, the other one i have i got when i was preg with ds1, so it is 8yrs old also need some blankets and sheets for the carrycot, but why oh why are they all such dull colours? pale blue, pink, white or yellow is all i can find

i am not too bothered about the birth, the last two went ok so hopefully this one will too and i am booked in for a home birth dp on the other hand is worried, he found all the newborn pics of ds2 and ds3 the other day and it made him remember it all, he finds it very stressful

i am feeling quite lucky at the mo, as although my spd has been playing up this is actually a fairly easy pregnancy so far, sickness now mainly gone, and i havent ever had heartburn, indigestion etc, never got it with the other three either, and ds3 was born with LOADS of hair, so that dispells that myth.

monthlymayhem · 30/11/2007 14:10

Hello

Have been away with work for a few days, although staying in a very plush hotel so I'm back actually feeling quite relaxed!

Glad to hear everyone is feeling well. My bump does seem to have exploded and it's now very obvious that I'm pg which is nice.

I've suffered with constipation over the last couple of days for the first time ever (normally have the opposite problem ) and it was sooo painful. Pain has gone away but still not much 'movement'...

Baby has been kicking me in all sorts of strange places, and sometimes feels like he/she is nipping me!!

March still feels like a long way off, but its been lovely to be around my little one week old nephew and know that I'll have one of my own soon!!

Have good weekends!

tori32 · 30/11/2007 14:46

Have just finished catching up with the thread but there is so much that I can't remember who said/asked what!! I have the memory of an amneasic goldfish LOL

birthplans I had a very detailed one last time. It said that I wanted a home birth with minimal pain relief! What I achieved was a c-section under general anaesthetic after 33 hrs of trying! LOL So this time I have no plan except to try to VBAC. Also I have done research into placenta positioning and OP births because that caused the problem last time. This led me on to learn about optimum foetal positioning to try to prevent the OP presentation.

clumsiness! I am so glad that everyone else is suffering from this debilitating condition LOL So far I have wasted 4 cups of coffee by knocking them over

Very embarrassed but have also developed a pile Hope I am not alone. Sorry if TMI but we have to take the good with the bad and the bloody ugly

My LO seems far wrigglier than dd was and seems to be awake all evening too until very late I hope this is not a sign of things to come

I don't know what my baby is b/g but if my cravings of crisps and jam roll with custard are anything to go by it could be a hermaphrodite

MarchMum · 30/11/2007 15:52

E14 - I woke up this morning with what only can be described as what you are experiencing with your hips - OMG is that painful. I would have expressed more sympathy for you if I knew :.)

Not stressing over birthplan, just need to start visualizing, only had that sensation in the last few days.

UCH is similar to Queen Charlotte in that I can make the decision that day which I agree is wise - go left for pain relief, go right for natural! My ideal is water birth but either way DH cannot stay over night which I am very annoyed at. Thus, have been reading the threads about how to get yourself out in 6 hours :.)

e14mum · 30/11/2007 16:59

MM- hips, eh? I'm thinking of you.

At home on the couch this afternoon. I've been feeling run down all week and have been throwing up (twice this week- haven't done it since I was 11 weeks!)complete with first-trimester metal mouth. So I took myself home and have been reading trashy chick-lit. Don't you hate it when you can predict the whole book really early on, but have to keep skimming it to find out if you were right?

Anyway, got a call from the gp that my iron levels are low (which would explain the run-down-ness) so at least we'll get that cleared up now. (Just the other morning a collegue came in after a late boozy night out and I still looked worse than her!)

Have a good weekend everyone.

piggyp · 30/11/2007 17:38

Argh! Having a mini-panic!!

  1. Haven't bought a single baby thing, only knitted 4 out of 56 squares for blanket. Mother and MIL now into competitive knitting - but only white cardigans!
  2. Collegue (male) scaring me at work by saying I out to have blankets etc in car at all times in case I am stuck in traffic due to unexpected road closure and/or snow and have to have the baby on central reservation.
  3. Not having thought about the birth much - don't even know what all the different things are (VBACs etc). Everyone else seems so orrganised!
  4. Suddenly huge. Never wearing pink jumper again. Look like Mrs Blobby. On the other hand its Friday and I'm going to eat toast and muffins (the bread kind) and watch television ALL EVENING!!! Feel better already! Have a nice weekend all!
yardette · 30/11/2007 17:41

hey skidoodle, hey holidaysqueen - good to hear you're all okay, and hello to the rest of you as well!

Skidoodle - don't beat yourself up. I'm in the same boat (trying to do too much before birth of twins) and realising it won't get done - don't beat yourself up though, as I think its just the sort of people we are, and if it wasn't a house renovation, there'd be something else that was keeping us frantically busy! My bathroom gets ripped out on Monday, and I've only just realised I really do need to move out somewhere for a week or so! good luck with it all - having lived through this renovation whilst pregnant, I can tell you that anything is possible, but if you get the option, I would consider moving out for a few months. Its a messy business, and I can only imagine that you'll want things a bit more orderly than they ever can be when your baby arrives. But like HQ says - is it possible for you to get some of the big stuff like bathroom and heating done before the baby arrives?

Take care all, if i'm not on the boards it doesn't mean i'm not thinking about you all.

xx
PS - i haven't found out the flavours of our little ones - i decided on the surprise approach, but i've got loads more scans to come and I don't know if i'll manage to resist!!

piggyp · 30/11/2007 17:42
  1. Can't spell either.
doup76 · 01/12/2007 04:56

can't sleep.....thank goodness for mumsnet!

piggyp - your post really made me smile - I feel exactly the same way. Glad to see you've got the grandma's doing something useful. The only thing my MIL could do competitively is winge!

I too am going through complete house renovation which will definitely not be finished before the LO arrives. The good news is that we now have a roof! Have demanded that there is a working bathroom at all times. Think my builder and his wife are getting brooding so am hoping he will be reasonably sympathetic when I turn into a psycho in my first-baby-panic and the sleep-starved early days....

Talking of being a psycho.... hubby confided in me last night that I have been quite 'strange' over the last 6 months....think this is the nicest way he had of telling me that the pregnancy hormones have made me a bit mad......anyone had a similar reaction?

merryberry · 01/12/2007 10:30

struggling a bit. have a wee cold it seems: delicate lady like sniffle in the day times, then full-on-spectral-onset-of-TB coughing all night long. three nights of it now, so weariness building up and making me feel sorry for myself. thank god it's warmish right now, can't stand having the heating on. dp is sleeping in spare room, as i've got the window in our room open all night. ok, whinge over. looking forward to PG being over and getting my immune system back in working order!

preggersagain · 01/12/2007 10:49

mb- its horrible atm isn't it. I seem to have had a sniffly cold ever since i was pg- not as bad as you've got it though

hot lemon and honey, lots of chocolate and cheesy dvd box sets of Ally McBeal and friends usually does the trick!

GET WELL SOON!!!!

spugs · 01/12/2007 15:57

i have the sniffles as well and its making me grouchy, plus the 19 mth oldd dd2 is quite keen on sleep deprevation at the minute though according to the health visitor its a seperation thing that they go through at about this age! shes determined she will come in our bed and screams blue murder till we go in to her.

turtle23 · 01/12/2007 19:10

Have just got myself Mongan Method Book and CD, thanks to a lovely mum on mumsnet. Anyone want a copy? Book might be quite difficult to share, but if I can get what I need out of it, will loan it out after.

OP posts:
