Not very original, but the thread WAS becoming ridiculously big.

Happy New Year! For the first time ever, it was easy to catch up on this board after leaving it for a week - we must all have been enjoying Christmas and New Year too much to type!

I had a great Christmas - hosted it at our house for the first time. In addition to our Christmas presents, mum and dad had made a beautiful hamper of baby things for us which they had been collecting and mum had been knitting over the last few months. So our baby suddenly has lots of clothes, some lovely blankets and even a couple of toys, as well as a big bag of terry nappies and even my old nappy pin which dad had kept from 31 years ago...

DH was fab and bought me some lovely non-pregnancy things but also got me a pregnancy massage (I had been hinting wildly!), a pair of gorgeous nursing pyjamas and a top in Blooming Marvellous which I had spotted but didn't buy as I have been trying not to spend too much on maternity clothes. He didn't know I liked it but spotted it himself, and it fitted and looked fab so both he and I were really chuffed!

Then on Boxing Day we headed off to Egypt for our final holiday a deux - stayed in a lovely hotel, relaxed, sunbathed and did a tonne of snorkelling. I was a bit sad not to be diving, esp when DH did a few dives, but the snorkelling in the Red Sea is amazing and it was great to feel weightless for a change! The Egyptians seem very baby-obsessed and I had to give daily status reports to about 10 of the hotel staff on our baby's activities The baby loved the attention - he was kicking and wriggling for 8 solid hours on New Year's Eve, and has barely stopped since! Turtle - you're going to have a fab time in Egypt!

I'm kind of sad this morning - I'm 27+6 so this is officially my last day of the second trimester. I expect to wake up tomorrow exhausted, massive, with swollen ankles and being unable to tie my shoelaces. Third trimester, here I come...

HolidaysQueen · 02/01/2008 08:09

Oh one final thing - my best friend (who you may remember was at one point hospitalised with severe bleeding and nearly had an emergency cs at 34 weeks) managed to hold out until 38+3 and had a bouncing baby boy (8 1/2 lbs) just after Christmas. Great outcome for them all, and I'm really excited to meet him on Friday!

surprisedandexcitedmum · 02/01/2008 09:52

I have 9 weeks left and I think I'm lucky that my memory foam matress is alleviating discomfort. But, has anyone bought one of those 'body pillows'?

surprisedandexcitedmum · 02/01/2008 09:55

Holidays Queen, that's fantastic news for your friend and I'm very jealous of your holiday.

We did lie-in until midday yesterday, to recover from a 3 am bedtime the night before, and I found myself thinking that I only had 9 more Sunday lie-ins left for forever!

preggersagain · 02/01/2008 10:17

morning ladies- hope everyone had a good christmas and a peaceful new year!

Well i've read through the concerned posts wondering where i was- i have in fact spent christmas and new year at Cardiff Hosp- admitted on the friday before christmas and i travelled back to Aberystwyth last night- following behind the twins transfer ambulance!!!!

I gave birth naturally on Boxing day at 7.07pm to Amelia (2lb 8) and then 8.05 to Carys (3lb 3) the steroid jabs had worked their wonders and they both had apgar scores of 7 at birth rising to 9 at 10 mins- very good for such tiny toots!!

They spent a week in neonatal intensive care at the heath but have been transfered back to our local unit now- and with no further complications should be home in a few weeks.

They are gorgeous, fluffy bundles of pink- but by god have they got some lungs on them! They no longer need 'fish bowls' to help with oxygen intake, but are still in incubators because of heat and jaundice- we took them outside the unit yesterday in their pram to get some actual sunlight before they came to aber- it was great to spend time with them without any beeps/ wires/ midwives etc. We are free to take them out of the incubator at any time- and they are trying really hard to feed from me but are still being tube fed expressed milk at the moment.

So i'm back online again- spending the morning catching up on things before me and dh go in after lunch- both of our businesses have taken a massive knock because we have just abandoned them so i need to do something about that and kick some arse before i go visiting the girls.

Oh and just to make you all sick- i slept wonderfully last night- went up at 10 (after a bath) watched jam and jerusalem and fell asleep just as the credits rolled and woke up by the nanny setting off the fire alarm at 9.15 (i'll let her off- she was cooking bacon butties for me and dh!!)

HolidaysQueen · 02/01/2008 10:52

Oh preggers - what wonderful news for the new year! And the babies are so big considering they were so early! I'm now all smiley, and very happy for you, and will have to wear a pink top today in their honour (off work for rest of week and not yet out of pyjamas...)

piggyp · 02/01/2008 11:02

Congratulations Preggersagain!! So glad your little pink girls are doing well. Can't bleieve you are working though!
I hope everyone else has had a relaxing christmas!
It is kind of scary that someone from the 'march club' now actually has a baby (or 2!). My LO has always been an 'after christmas' thing and reality has suddenly hit home! Fingers are now out of ears!! We've got a car seat (maxi cosi) and pretty certain we've choosen a pram/buggy - icandy cherry. Does anyone have any experience of these?
Now thinking about nappies. I remember lots of chat ages ago but what is every one going for? I definately want to use reuseables, quite taken with bambinomio but have read about problems with explosive poos.
I'm feeling very much a first timer - no idea how to look after a baby! If I'm due March 3rd when is it sensible to have hospital bag packed and to be fully organised by? sorry about all the questions - none of my friends / siblings have had LOs yet and everything seeems to have changed so much since my mothers day!

preggersagain · 02/01/2008 11:21

piggy- not working as such!! but have to sort out accounts etc and check bank balances etc otherwise poor girls will be clothed in rags!! Thats the problem- neither of us have a 'proper job'!! unfortunatly we can't just take a paid holiday- we have 3 companies between us- and hmrc don't take 'we've just had a baby' as a valid reason for unexplained gaps in accounts!

Glammama · 02/01/2008 11:24

Congratulations preggersagain or should that be nolongerpreggersagain! I'm so glad to hear that your both girls are doing well. I had a tear in my eye when I read your news. Hoping you don't have to do too much work. Take care and well done!!!

Glammama · 02/01/2008 11:26

sorry that should read both your girls are doing well.

turtledove23 · 02/01/2008 11:28

Preggers...congrats! Fantastic news!
HQ- I can't wait, however there is a fly in the ointment, can anyone help?
I went to my midwife this morning expecting to get a fit to fly letter from her (I'm 28+3) and she said GP has to do it...I refuse to PAY THE GP for it, it's very unfair. Do I have the right to demand it from the midwife? She told me ages ago they'd do it. Very upset and I'm going on Saturday!!
Anyone have any ideas?

HolidaysQueen · 02/01/2008 11:37

Hi turtle - my GP wrote me a letter without any payment or anything - just scribbled how pregnant I was and that I was fit to travel on a bit of headed notepaper. So maybe yours will do the same? She did it without asking so I assume it's not quite as formal as the things where you need sick notes for work etc.

I technically didn't need a note (went at 26+6, came back at 27+5) but got it to be on the safe side. The check in staff never even noticed I was pregnant (there's a big desk in the way which you can hide your tummy behind) so chances are you'll find it's not needed. You could always just lie and say you are 27 weeks pregnant...

turtledove23 · 02/01/2008 11:47

Would it just be too terrible to fake one? My check went fine, my blood pressure is fantastic and no problems of any kind...hmmmmm
Have double-checked and they will make me pay £25 for it despite their being an NHS practice. Grump.

surprisedandexcitedmum · 02/01/2008 12:00

Preggers, that is fantastic news. I know what you mean about the self-employed bit but you sound like you have it under control! Congratulations.

I said I'd start thinking about labour after Christmas, so I am now thinking about thinking about labour etc...

Turtle Dove, good luck getting your note.

merryberry · 02/01/2008 12:17

Congratulations PGagain! Such wonderful news for you and your family. Big welcome to Carys and Amelia, I'm thrilled to hear how well they are.

So, what will you change your name to I wonder? Can I suggest Supershoppertwinsproggermamma without causing offense?

preggersagain · 02/01/2008 12:28
Grin
MissingMyHeels · 02/01/2008 13:01

OH MY GOSH!!! Congratulations preggersagain! I am SO excited for you. What gorgeous names!!

Can't wait to see some pictures

timmyinatizzy · 02/01/2008 14:00

Yay, the first one has popped. Congrats to you, Mr Preggers and all of the other preggy children!

So I'm now a happily married woman, with a 3 bedroom house. The move went well, the wedding went well too. Unfortunetly the heating in the house decided to give up the Saturday before Christmas and then again on Christmas Eve. Thank god the dsd's were with their mum. We had a special British Gas call out on Christmas Day, but he only stayed for a few minutes and said 'I'll have to order the part, but the earliest I'll get it is Friday!' Luckily enough dh (ooer have to get used to dh and not dp!) and I were staying with my parents for a few days, so only had to sleep there for one night without heat and hot water. Its all lovely and warm now.

Junior is now moving about lots and I can feel an elbow or hand underneath the bump. He was making lots of strange shapes in there over the festive period!

Right back to work, not long to go now...

Happy New Year to you all

spugs · 02/01/2008 15:51

preggers - congrats on your girls, how many weeks were you? i have an amelia and love the name carys.

timmy - congrts on now being a married lady

had to spend some cash in mothercare today, have grown out my maternity bras and all my tops reveal way to much belly so got 3 new tops and 2 new t shirt amternity bras which are fab. think ill get the same when its time for nursing bras.

just had mw appointment, baby head down and has caught up measurement wise. had to have blood test and anti d which stung like a bugger. hope everyones wellx

MumOfBillyTheKid · 02/01/2008 15:59

Wow - Preggersagain - fantastic news (and lovely names) - really pleased for you.

HQ - glad you had a lovely holiday - soooo jealous! I love diving in the Red Sea (would have, like you contented myself with snorkelling!)

Married Timmy - welcome back! Glad to hear you weren't without heating for too long!

Turtle - I wouldn't recommend travelling without a letter - worth it just in case anything (heaven forbid) happened and insurance say they won't pay out for the sake of £25.

We had a lovely relaxed Xmas with family (LO got pressies too!) and spent New Year at a friends toga party - I was blooming apparently! Managed to stay up dancing till 3am and even did "oops upside your head" rowing boat song! - think the glass of champers helped (and the high heels, like you Lauren )

Glad I'm not the only one struggling sleeping - I have a sausage shape pillow to put leg top on, but my problem is heartburn waking me up at 1am, 3am, 5am etc..... Yuk! roll on midwife appt tomorrow to see if I can get Gaviscon prescription from her! Am also driving dp nuts at the mo as I've started snoring - very loudly! Oops...

Back to work now - just five and a half weeks to go for me and counting!

PurlyQueen · 02/01/2008 16:10

Wow! Congratulations on your girls, preggers!

I've just come back from a little spend-up at the shops. I bought a couple more sale tops from Mothercare - they have these gorgeous lycra wrap tops for £10 each.

And I picked up a couple of long nightshirts from Primark as all my pyjama tops are resembling boob tubes now.

preggersagain · 02/01/2008 16:24

the girls are fine- we've come home to have tea with the dc's before going back for the evening.

They were born at 29w+5!

do i get a cake for being first?- which one of the rest of you will be last?

imjin100 · 02/01/2008 16:35

big ploppy tears in my eyes preggers - such huge congratulations - thrilled the know the girls are doing well and all ok. Please post pictures if you feel like it - I know it's silly but I feel a real sense of ownership of all of our little ones...I feel a real part of their lives despite having met no one! Anyway - just the most lovely news to know all is well. Your silence now totally understandable but glad you're back so we can have regular updates please!
Timmy congrats - great news but hope the heating etc works out so you start the new year on a real, warm high!
HQ - sounds like a fantastic holiday - and don't feel too much fear about 3rd trimester, I'm well in it I think (at 31 plus a bit weeks but ankles still my own and I can even touch the floor (if I lift the other leg and do a rather inelegant swoop!)
Turtle - I second the words of wisdom from mummyofbilly - i know it's a lot but I think worth every penny should it be needed....and once you've done it forget about it and don't let the anger ruin the start of your holiday.
Today I'm doing nothing, we had 16 adults to dinner on new year and I went to bed at 3.30, getting up at 8.00 as we also have 5 children staying....but as it's january and that means i'm having a baby this year I have just printed out the maternity form - that was today's chore, tomorrow's is to fill it in! I am also seeing a consultant tomorrow who has to check out a large scar I have to make sure they will let me give birth naturally all being well...and then on Friday I start NCT...so NY has begun with a bang!
Love and hugs to all, plus our new additions - the most welcome of anyone, two baby girls!!!!

turtle23 · 02/01/2008 16:52

Got my letter...off to pack!! The cot just got delivered and that's the final piece for me. I can't believe it's all done! Now it's just the long wait and more bad knitting!

JFly · 02/01/2008 17:03

Wow! Babies! That's such an exciting Christmas present preggers. Congratulations and virtual cake to you and your family. Can't wait to hear when they come home.

I can heartily recommend a body pillow, suprised. I've had mine at least 2 months and love it. I even took mine to a friend's house for New Year's (along with my Ugg slippers and what I call my "expando pants/trousers"). Can't sleep without my sausage.

31 weeks tomorrow and definitely showing the signs of third tri: swollen ankles most of the day, rather than just evenings. LO movement is visible now which is just freaky.

So jealous of your exotic holiday HQ - nothing like that in my immediate future. But plan on many lie ins for the next few weekends.

First day of working from home today and boy, is it great!
