Not very original, but the thread WAS becoming ridiculously big.

Hi! I had the laziest, most self-indulgent Christmas and I doubt that I will ever have one like that again.
Just my husband and my sister round for Xmas. We all woke up about 10.30 am, had breakfast, watched Gone with the Wind on TV, finally got dressed around 3pm and ate Xmas dinner and opened presents from 7pm.

Braved Brent Cross shopping centre on Boxing Day as sister wanted some computer bits and pieces. Mananged to buy those and some nice sale tops from Mothercare before I got fed up with being pushed and shoved by the crowds.

Completed my sale shopping online with some nice maternity tops from M&S.

fitnforty · 27/12/2007 21:57

morning...well, night really...
Full of the lurgy here, but have survived the parental visit almost intact .

Managed a quick trip into Cardiff, not for sales but to get my mum a wig, mission accomplished, but couldn't walk all day yesterday after it! Did a little sales shopping online (Next a few days ago, having a look at babies r us now) but can't really be arsed as feeling like crap. Hoping a Baileys will make the germs go away

Hope everyone else had a good time!

fitnforty · 28/12/2007 10:15

still germy-wermy this morning but had a decent night's sleep!
Have consoled myself with buying tickets for the RSC in Sept/Oct 08 to drool over David Tennant in Hamlet and Love's Labour Lost. Not sure how I'll cope by then with abandoning a small child, or if it's even appropriate to go to theatre with a small nursing wriggly object?
But figured there'll be plenty of demand for the tix so if I really can't bear to part with the offspring for an evening or 2 we can sell them on.

I think this is what I'm struggling with most during pregnancy, not worried about the whole birth bit at all, just cannot for the life of me work out how to adapt to life with a little 'un where previously there wasn't one! It's a bit similar to abandoning the dog for the evening "here's his food, he'll take you for a walk at 6, then bed" but without the maturity of the pooch

imjin100 · 28/12/2007 13:02

HI fitnforty - glad you're feeling a bit perkier and I think booking tickets a lovely idea. I am also struggling with the reality of a little person - I keep thinking of plans I want to make and then wondering it it works with a person in tow. We really wanted children, and tried for 15 months (nothing compared with some I know) but now I'm wondering about the reality of it all.... I know the reality is we'll all be fine, we'll cope and life will be even better but it's just the adapting. Fitnforty one friend gave me some good advice, she has two now and she said that she wished she'd make the most of only having one - one can be taken out easily, easy for weekends away, time out etc...two is harder so for those of us on number one I say we make the most of it and plan tickets, events etc etc and enjoy the ease of it all (imjin feels like a fool because she knows it ain't going to be easy!!!!)

modsaluk · 28/12/2007 13:33

Hi everyone, hope you all had fab time at xmas, we had quite a hectic one. Woke at half seven with DS who is 2 and it was the first xmas where he has known what was going on and been able to open presents himself and get exceited about them.

About 1130 family come round and i cooked dinner for six of us which was really tiring, by five o clock i was ready for bed but we had a family party to go to, took some paracetamols and felt a lot better so in the end had a really good day.

Went to see my consultant before xmas and he has asked for me to see him on 2nd January 2008 and to have another scan to check the babies are growing ok and getting everything they need, quite nervous about it, was told at the beginning of my pregnancy that i would only have to two scans, i know its good that they are keeping an eye on me but i am now worring that he felt something wrong or wrong sizes etc, not long to go now though.

Has anyone heard from preggers, is she still with us ? Hope all is ok.

Enjoy the rest of the holiday those who are off and have a great new year !!!!

surprisedandexcitedmum · 28/12/2007 17:00

imjin and fitnforty, as the baby was not planned (although I always knew I wanted one) DP and I too are wondering how it works and how our relationshp will work too. That said we are still planning on going to the Isle of Wght Festival in June, safe in the knowledge that Grandma will look after LO.

I too keep checking in to see how preggers is. It certainly has made me think I ought to get on with my packing. Am a little worried about my mother's plan to bring up the moses basket when I'm in labour, especially as my neice is still in it!

monthlymayhem · 28/12/2007 17:32

Hello!

Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas. I've had a very chilled out couple of days, getting spoiled by my parents and playing with my 5 week old nephew! Like others, reality has dawned that once LO arrives there really will be no going back - eeek!

I had half a glass of champagne and half a glass of wine on Christmas day and it was lovely, but have managed to make up for lack of wine volume with mountains of chocolate I got the Davina preggy work out DVD in my stocking (I did ask for it!!) and am kidding myself on that doing that once yesterday has in any way made up for all the extra eating....oh well...

minspugs · 29/12/2007 16:30

hi everyone glad to hear you enjoyed christmas, have had a nightmare past few days as the inlaws were staying and unfortunatly they expect me to run round constantly after them also on top of this they turn whatever room they go in into a disaster area! luckily they live at the opposite end of the country but there parting words were that they would be up again as soon as i have the baby no bloody thankyou. im going to have to try and think of a way to stop them staying here.

preggers - hope your still holding on in there

merryberry · 29/12/2007 19:46

can't. stop. obsessively. reading. the. childbirth. threads....

imjin100 · 30/12/2007 13:17

merryberry - take hold and stop, unless they are very positve stories. I have decided to surround myself by only the positive stuff (who am i kidding!)
hope everyone ok - wonder if any news of preggers...a little bit too quiet I think but perhaps she's busy with her feet up.

We have a family of 6 arriving today for 3 days and we're hosting a big dinner tomorrow night. Im feeling surprisingly under control, if only i could work out how to blow up the borrowed children's beds...you can tell i'm not a parent yet - it's totally confused me!

Yesterday, had a blissful time which included watching cheesey Holiday on tv....bliss - oh and I did like the look of Jude Law, not usually my thing at all but perhaps that is hormones..I fear I mentioned it once too often with DH!

have a great day all and keep warm and safe.

merryberry · 30/12/2007 16:51

oh, they are lovely, all the 'ooh is this labour? stuff and then the doulas etc line up and keep the woman virtual company until she goes really quiet and you know she is really in labour then and sometimes their OH posts what's going on...'

LOVE THEM

turtledove23 · 31/12/2007 20:05

Happy new year everyone! It's my first wedding anniversary today and I am already trying hard to stay awake!
Preggers...hope you are reading this with girls still safely tucked inside. X

Gursky · 31/12/2007 22:17

Hello Everyone - thanks for the welcome.

Three years ago today I found out I was pregnant with DS. I don't think I have had a decent NYE since .

I second the advice only to look at the positive labour threads - mind you, two and a bit months still feels like a long way off.

minspugs · 01/01/2008 08:08

happy 2008 we get our babies this year, how exciting

merryberry · 01/01/2008 11:08

happy new year everyone! we had a lovely time seeing it in, just back now. looking forward to nap time....

e14mum · 01/01/2008 11:48

Happy New Year! I love thinking that this is the year LO arrives...

surprisedandexcitedmum · 01/01/2008 14:57

My bump certainly enjoyed the party and the attention.

Only 9 weeks (alledgedly) until I meet her for real - I'm excited!

Happy New Year everyone, here's to a great 2008!

Brazilianmum · 01/01/2008 18:11

Hi everyone. Happy new year!!!
Had a lovely Xmas and new Years with my parents and spent a few days after Xmas with DP's family. Have not braved the sales as it's too crowded.
Hope preggers is ok and that her little girls are still snuggled up inside her.
DP is amazed at how the LO is getting strong. he gives me really hard kicks and punches. Apart from not sleeping very comfortably everything is going really well.
Went for a long walk with my parents and the dog this afternoon it was nice to breath in the fresh air.

MissingMyHeels · 01/01/2008 19:01

Hiya Everyone (ClaphamLauren here, name changed as have moved from Clapham!!)

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Year, I was really sick, but apart from that have thoroughly enjoyed my time off and dreading going back to work tomorrow. Although, it is only for six weeks until I start maternity leave. Terrifying!!

Has anyone noticed a change of bump shape and lots of very low kicks and punches? I feel like she has moved right down into my pelvis and wouldn't be surprised if she popped a hand out to wave it's that low!

surprisedandexcitedmum · 01/01/2008 19:47

My bump has become very high, making some sitting positions rather uncomfy. I suppose it helps support my ever growing boobs!

Like your new name Missing Heels, I was very glad to wear my 3 inch F-me shoes last night.

Gursky · 01/01/2008 20:25

Happy New Year everyone! Less than 3 months to go - and how much bigger can I get? DH says 'lots', which is not so reassuring - how will I pick up a 2 yo?!?

I'm attempting a drive down the M1 tomorrow - let's hope the snow does not join me.

Well done on wearing 3 inch heels (although I probably couldn't manage that even when not pregnant!).

turtledove23 · 01/01/2008 20:26

I lost my mind last night. Teetered around in 5 inch platforms and stayed up til 5 am. Had two drinks and didn't notice them. What was I thinking? Am very tired today and waiting for 9 pm so I can go to bed.

PurlyQueen · 01/01/2008 20:39

Happy 2008!

I would have rather spend NYE in front of the TV with a big bag of Maltesers, to be honest. But wI got talked into spending NYE with my in-laws instead.

It was like 'Grumpy Old New Years Eve' All they did was complain about everything from the Diana inquest to the range of orange juices that you can get in the supermarket these days. And as I'm not drinking my interest in hanging around drunk people is nil.

PurlyQueen · 01/01/2008 20:40

And we're all well into our third trimesters now! I have to sleep on a nest of pillows and even that doesn't guarantee a quality night's sleep any more.

MissingMyHeels · 01/01/2008 21:01

Good work on the heels ladies! These are my favourite ever shoes and they had there last outing for a while last night. I have ALWAYS lived in stupidly high heels so it's taking some real adjusting to get used to flats (not helped by dp telling me that my flat shoes make me look like a Russian peasant, gee thanks)

turtledove - I also had a couple of glasses of champagne last night, I think the babies like bubbly!!
