Not very original, but the thread WAS becoming ridiculously big.

i am quite excited about the birth too booked in for a home birth and am debating birth pools etc, had one last time that i hired, but am looking at those birth pools in a box that you can buy as they seem quite good value, if anyone knows anything about them or can recomend them then please let me know

i have my 30wk check up on wednesday all good tho, bump is VERY wriggly and my braxton hicks seemed to have calmed down from last week

which is good as i still have more xmas shopping to do and its ds3's bday on the 23rd dec so i need to get organised for that, just alittle tea party etc, but will need to make a cake, he wants a car cake

oh and we were planning on taking the boys ice skating and rollerskating during the hols, i used to do this LOADS and love it, but dp is thinking that its not a good idea with bump? i figured i could go slow and skate near the edge etc, plus i will be helping ds3, so it will be VERY slow, any thoughts or am i mad?

merryberry · 17/12/2007 18:57

no, don't skate would be my advice! it is unbelievable how whacked out your centre of balance is when PG, you will really notice it if you try a skate balance, it's mad. you somehow don't notice so much with daily life as you've adjusted slowly, then you skate out and oh boy! i tried it once out of boredom with ds1, in an empty ally pally and got off the ice fairly sharpish when i realised i was a liability.

there's the problem as well that xmas rinks are full of 'holiday skaters' aka 'sunday drivers' and your chances of being sent flying by someone not in control of themselves is quite high

turtledove23 · 17/12/2007 19:57

3madboys...I've been given a pool in a box by a very kind MNer and it looks very good. It weighs a lot less than the others(obviously) but still does weigh nearly a tonne filled up. It inflates quite quickly (with a power pump, obviously) and they do two different sizes depending on how tall you are. I was also given a handy drill powered pump to take the water out. Imagine that by the time I could tell you if it's any good it will be too late. but I have heard only good things!!

PurlyQueen · 17/12/2007 22:28

Ditto about the skating suggestion. Even if you are a proficient skater, the chances of someone careering into you are pretty high.

imjin100 · 18/12/2007 09:29

in haste but in case Timmyinatizzy sees this happy wedding day - good luck and hope it all goes well.
To everyone else hello and bye for now - seem to be busy and not finding so much time for mumsnet...something must be wrong!
However, will be in touch again soon. Hope everyone ok and not too many problems around.
Oh on the ice skating...I'd echo what's been said - I can see that going horribly wrong.
love to all.

minspugs · 18/12/2007 09:57

have to go to mw tomorrow to have blood tests as a child i teach has slapped cheek! means im not going in this afternoon though which i suppose is a bonus.

im thinking of having a home birth, will prob book it and just see how things go on the day. not having a pool though as im not very keen on the idea.

timmy for today

preggersagain · 18/12/2007 10:35

timmy- have a lovely day!!

Right then- i'm doing final checks that EVERYTHING is done- we have best friends wedding on xmas eve (stupid, stupid day for a wedding! especially an all singing all dancing 14 bridesmaids affair!), then obviously xmas, then up to dh's family on boxing day (involving two cars and general chaos!) then me on my own going visiting my lost lost rellies the day after! And to top it all off this morning i have woken with a 'glint' in my eye

Got up this morning and sort of bumbled around upstairs, finally made it to the kitchen where dh is sitting chatting with our nanny whilst kids have brekkie- first thing they both say is- "ooh, love are you feeling ok?"- and by the way i am feeling energetic and bouncy! the convo carried on and dh and nanny are both convinced there is something going on- i'm feeling a bit funny but still lively iyswim, keep needing the loo desperatly (like every two minutes) and sitting there and.......... nothing!!!!! No major signs yet, and i am hoping they stay inside until after chrimbo but knowing my luck............ watch this space!

GLAMpresentsforMAMAplease · 18/12/2007 10:48

Timmy- have a wonderful day wedding dance

skidoodle · 18/12/2007 11:53

turtle, what a lovely way to think of the whole thing. I'm going to start thinking that way too I think.

I was never really avoiding thinking about it, it just seemed so far off. Now it's seeming nearer I guess perhaps I should have started thinking of things other than epidurals and pain relief straight away.

spugs - thanks for your insights, it's really helpful to hear stories from people who've been through it. that's rubbish about having to go for a blood test tomorrow.

My mum gave me a blow-by-blow account of my own birth the other day. I'm amazed by how well she remembers it. The only thing that sounded at all bad was that she was completely surrounded by strangers as that was in the days when fathers (or others) were not allowed into the labour ward the poor thing, 23 years old having her first baby all alone. It made me really glad that DH will be able to be there.

3madboys, I'm very impressed that you would be happy to go skating. I lost my fearlessness a while ago and don't even cycle to work anymore. I haven't noticed my change in centre of gravity. I just find it hard to get off the couch. Physically as well as figuratively.

gingercat12 · 18/12/2007 15:34

It is quite a mad house here, so in case I shan't have the time to do it later, I wish You all and your families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!!

gingercat12 · 18/12/2007 15:36

All the best to Timmy Preggers I hope you will soon feel better and manage to hang in on there a bit longer.

MarchMum · 18/12/2007 16:08

Hi all - since I was elected by e14 to plan the next meet up (happy to do :.) I want to take a straw poll on what day - Jan 19 or 26 - is better. Other details to be sorted but send preferences on location and I'll make a seperate thread when we hear from a few people.

Rough week here - dh's grandfather died suddenly over the weekend and so lots of chaos. Am being supportive wife but will reveal selfish bits to you all - am really hoping we can still get away to our holiday next week as it's our last chance before 32 weeks hit and we've been banking on this as our last time together. Also not looking forward to in law drama that surrounds these types of events. OK, back to being supportive wife.

My BH have definately died down although I am still having 1 or 2 in the evening. Definately feeling like I am transitioning into 3rd trimester - a bit bigger, heartburn in full effect and I am getting tired again like in beginning. LO movements have changed as well, less like quick fishy movements and more like human rolling over and stretching type movements. Used to feel she was safer in there and now coming to the realization that she wpuld be better for her to be on the outside.

I am thinking a lot about labour these days (attended the hospital class last night which was surprsingly helpful, altthough much too brief, glad am also doing NCT). before I had the 'block' removed :.) I read Stand Up and Deliver and it was a really helpful way to start thinking about the options. I can bring to next meet up.

I also want to go skating!!! but ruled it out a long time ago, sadly.

Timmy, happy wedding day!

3madboys · 18/12/2007 16:24

hope the wedding went well timmy

we think we may just take the boys to the cinema rather than skating, but if we do go skating i can sit and watch, there is also a soft play area that we can dump ds3 in

midwife tomorrow

the 19th jan is my bday, i will be 29 where will the meeting be? i will see if i can come this time

hope everyone is well.

preggars i hope those twins stay put a bit longer xxxx

derah · 18/12/2007 17:15

Hi ladies

HAPPY WEDDING TIMMY!!!

Hope those little 'ums are still baking, preggers.

Well, I've had a pretty stressful day. We're supposed to be off to S.Africa tomorrow, but Virgin Flippin' Atlantic called today to tell me our flight has been changed and now leaves 12 hours later! So now, instead of a night flight, we're flying during the day. It also means we have to be at the airport at 5:30am instead of pm, and than we arrive at 10:30pm rather than am. So we have to get up at the crack of dawn and arrive in the middle of the night. We've got a 5 hour drive on the other end too, and none of us know the way. We'll be knackered, it'll be dark and SA isn't all that safe! So we have to book a hotel for that night now and we'll start the drive the next morning. We are SOOOOO not impressed!! They say they won't pay for the hotel because it's our choice rather than a necessity, but I'm really going to fight that. And you can bet we'll get every penny of compensation we can. Good thing we subscribe to Which? !!!

Grrrrrr! Bet dd won't sleep on the plane now either.....

Aren't holidays supposed to be relaxing?!?!

derah · 18/12/2007 17:47

OK, this has cheered me up no end!! Wiping tears from face......

merryberry · 18/12/2007 18:14

i somehow get the impression

that 3madboys

is in a

blardy great mood

HolidaysQueen · 18/12/2007 19:34

Afternoon all - sorry to put a dampner on the jolly spirits around here, but I need some advice.

I was sent home from work in a taxi this afternoon after nearly throwing up and then nearly fainting on the stairs. I'm currently holed up in our loft room where there is a double bed and a bathroom in close proximity (and thankfully a tv and computer!) and I've been quite violently sick (about an hour ago), still feel nauseous and have diarrhea.

The baby was kicking after I threw up but has gone quiet and I've had some sharp pains in my side - not sure if this is baby related or just stomach related given I clearly have some sort of tummy upset/food poisoning.

Is there anything in particular I should be doing - seeing midwife/doctor - or is it likely the baby is fine and I should just sit it out?

Any advice gratefully received! I don;t feel worse than I have with D&V before, but it's the first time I've had it in pregnancy so just feeling quite worried about the effect on my baby.

Thank you

HQ xx

derah · 18/12/2007 19:40

Hi HQ, sorry you're feeling rough. There's probably nothing to worry about wrt baby, but maybe try to drink something cold or one of the other things that gets them moving if you're worried.

At this stage I think it takes quite a lot to bother the baby, who is so comfy and padded in your tum!

If you haven't felt any movement within a couple of hours then call the mw team.

Baby probably just knows your tummy isn't feeling good and is giving you a break.

Hope you feel better (and some kicks) soon!

MarchMum · 18/12/2007 21:08

HQ - you prob have the stomach flu (which is still pretty yuck!) but rather than worrying, you could just give a call to the midwife and have her reassure you. I was so worried about my BH that one night and I called the delivery suite - mw asked me a bunch of questions to rule some things out and then I was reassured and didn't think about it again.

All - as for meet up locations, also send preferences on that.

Ps other reasons why I know the third trimester has arrived - major varicose situation has developed around my one ankle and am having some increased bitchy feelings....

turtledove23 · 18/12/2007 21:41

March...I am in town for my 3d scan on the 19th so would be very convenient for me.

I had gastroentiritis at 14 weeks and the dr told me to just make sure I kept well hydrated and to not eat for a day to make sure it went quickly...HTH

derah · 18/12/2007 22:03

Are we on the third trimester then? When does that start?

HolidaysQueen · 18/12/2007 22:31

Hi all - feeling a little better although stomach churning not helped by watching final episode of Spooks...
Baby wriggling again, so feeling better that I haven't done him permanent damage. Poor LO was probably very traumatised by what was going on in my tummy right next to him!
I'm feeling less shivery and I've progressed from sipping water to a full mug of hot ribena so I'm hoping I'm over the worst.
I'm going to see how I go overnight then call the midwife in the morning if I still have D&V.
HQ xx

merryberry · 19/12/2007 08:43

i hope you are ok today HQ, feeling any better? Do try not to worry any extra, like when i had pleurisy I think I was coughing enough to dislodge Mount Rushmore and baby was snug and fine, our bodies protect them well.

MarchMum, 19th best for me. Sorry to hear 3rd trimester biting. I am very short tempered too, not managing so well with ds1 this am, my patience not what it should be.

Going to the zoo for the morning to make the time pass...

imjin100 · 19/12/2007 08:48

HQ - sorry to hear you aren't well - get better soon and take it easy.
Marchmum sorry to hear about the family death...and hope it isn't too dramatic. the joys of inlaws -need we say more!
3madboys - for a moment I thought you were suggesting you could leap into the soft play instead of skating...it's an interesting vision! If I were you i'd enjoy sitting on the sidelines with a large cup of hot chocolate...bliss.
minispugs hope you're all clear and all is fine.
Preggersagain..keep on cooking. Everything crossed on your behalf.

happy day to all - our christmas lunch today - will be averagely fun but then off to the osteopath which although not fun should help the back for a little while...fingers tightly crossed.

preggersagain · 19/12/2007 10:11

i think i shall be the winner of the first-born prize

Hindwaters went at about 3am as i got up to go to the loo not much water but i paniced! mw rushed out to check me- no contractions and main waters are still intact thankfully, but the hindwaters going means more pressure on my cervix- hence higher chance of babies arriving soon! As the main waters are intact then they aren't worried about infection etc So plan is to sit it out and see what happens, they are both cephalic so will be going for a natural birth if poss (unless one of the little munchkins moves!) So i may have two extra for christmas!

Going in now for monitoring and steroids, they may give me some pethidine if there are any tightenings showing up on the monitor but it seems almost inevitable now!

I've been joking with dh this morning that having spent a fortune on a maternity dress for this xmas eve weddding- it'll all kick off! The bride and groom'll have a barney, best man will start a fight and i'll go into full blown fast labour in the middle of the dance floor

Well enjoy the day ladies- i shall hopefully be back later still with a preggy bump!

Oh and on a different note- this is the first time i've ever had my waters break naturally- its always been a crochet hook before - god it feels strange and that popping noise is just bizarre!
