Marchmum - maybe your DH is a bit like mine. He can't really focus on baby things yet - I think he has in his head that because the baby isn't arriving until 2008, he can't really think about it this side of Christmas. At least that is what he said when I burst into tears at 4am a few weeks ago - different for me because of course I'm pregnant in 2007, so very difficult to ever forget about it... He has just started a new job and we have a few other bits and pieces on at the moment and he basically said he wants to get all that sorted in 2007 so he can then focus on the baby. So I'm wittering on at him about birth plans, real nappies and cots vs cotbeds now in the hope that at least some of it will seep in, but I'm not expecting much engagement from him until January! If he doesn't get into it then, then I really will strop

glammama · 03/12/2007 13:42

hello all, not had much to post rececntly. Sorry to hear about all the sniffles and achy bits.
I dreamt that I had this one early the other night and the hospital put him in one of those yellow polystrene rectangular fast food containers!!! Wtf was goin on there I have no idea!! But in my dream he had that wonderful baby smell!!!

Marchmum, I don't know how old your babybjorn is but bought mine in 2000. I don't recall an extra head bit, just did up the poppers either side of the head. Does that make any sense to you?

Looking forward to meeting up on Thursday too. Have to go to Borders before and pick up a pack of Bratz Top Trumps (almost finished the stocking)

glammama · 03/12/2007 13:43

Meant to say that I used the babybjorn from birth marchmum but I'm sure you figured that out.

merryberry · 03/12/2007 15:52

at glammamas takeway...would you like chips with that? My cough finally calmed down last night, hurrah. I on the other hand am getting

HOPPING STEAMING MAD

It's a huge post, your input very much sought. MarchMum and any other UCH bookees, you night be particularly interested. But bear in mind I seem to be especially unlucky with maternity care!

Dontlookatmeimshy · 03/12/2007 16:31

MoM - why are you being admitted at 32 weeks (sorry just being nosy). I was admitted at 34 wks with ds due to placenta previa. Lots of magazines, books, mp3 player, suduko puzzles, cross-stitches, and copious amounts of chocolate and biscuits got me through

spugs · 03/12/2007 18:25

marchmum - i used my baby bjorn from a week old, theres a bit on it that folds up for when their tiny and face you and folds down for when they star facing outwards.

i also have some white bedding sets for dd2s cot and they look lovely, dont get manky either (sick & milk same colour) def agree anything that goes outside which is white is a daft idea though.

my sciatica has been really bad today, does anyone know anything that can help? my mw said not to put too much weight on but my 3 choccy bars a day have ended up with me putting on 18 lbs already

merryberry · 03/12/2007 18:31

thanks e14! you're a cheerleader of great effectiveness!

MerlinsBeard · 03/12/2007 19:27

Don't look, i have grade 4 ANTERIOR placenta praevia so the risk of bleeding is much much higher. I am going to drag my heels in though, i can understand their reasons but really i am so so lazy that the only thing i would be doing differently at home is the school run and i need some fresh air!

Paranoid1stTimer · 03/12/2007 21:13

Hello everyone, I am just dropping in with one of my weirdo questions as usual. I don't get on the internet much so when I do, I try to catch up with all your goss on mumsnet....

Is anyone else having really weird dreams just now? I mean, really awful, terrible, wake up in floods of tears nightmares? I won't go into detail a)in case you think badly of me and b) in case I put these weirdo thoughts in your heads but I am really struggling to get to sleep and then when I do, I am unable to stop the vivid nightmares which I cant forget for the whole day.

Also, I have a low lying placenta (I noticed a bit of a discussion a couple pages back about this) and was taken into hospital twice now with bleeding. I have a further scan and a consultant appt - they didnt tell me what they want me to see the consultant for, just told me not to worry as it might have "sorted itself out" by then which hopefully it will. I havent touch wood had any further bleeding and so do not wanna have to go into hospital again. This is what I get for complaining about not getting 20 week scans in my area!!!!

One last thing before I go on too long, the little un seems to like to lie really, really low down and kick me in the cervix basically. I tried gently rubbing my lower belly to see if he/she will move up a bit but then I just get the foot-wedge under the rib cage instead (poor little thing - how cramped must it be in there!!! So much for no leg room in economy class! What was I complaining about). Is anyone else feeling the wee one lying really low and heavy on the bladder/cervix kind of area? Then again, maybe it is something to do with the placenta being low and if it is growing, maybe I can feel the pressure from that...

So many questions - any advice would be fantastico x x x

PurlyQueen · 03/12/2007 21:28

At my 20 week scan my baby looked as if s/he was praying on all fours. It was kicking so low that I half expected to feel a little hand or foot poking out of my nether regions.
There's plenty of time for the LO to turn around in time for the birth

fitnforty · 03/12/2007 21:30

Paranoid, i'm getting exactly the same thing, kicking in what can be some very sensitive areas between the legs! Sometimes it just tickles, mostly it's just really weird!

Would love to know what angle LO is lying at, as i can get kicked between the legs one second, and in the side or under the ribs next second!

~Oh, and have just discovered that Heinz tomato soup is the most indigestion-inducing food ever so refuse to touch it again until LO is born now

doup76 · 03/12/2007 21:36

Hey Paranoid!

No advice from me but lots of sympathy!
I have had some totally freaky dreams - and I mean F-R-E-A-K-Y.

LO is kicking up a storm. But sometimes I get pain really really deep inside. I have been trying to figure out what it is and I think it is when LO is pushing/stretching back and down.... if that makes sense.

My placenta is low posterior but I haven't had any bleeding....the doctor put me on a nookie- ban from 16 weeks .

Dontlookatmeimshy · 03/12/2007 22:42

I had grade 4 diagnosed at 34wk scan, no idea if it was anterior or posterior and no bleeding until after I was admitted. The consultant nearly had heart failure when I started objecting to being admitted at 34 weeks.

Paranoid - funny you should say that about the position. This time the placenta is nice and high and I am getting bruised and kicked in the bladder region so much more. So maybe it's nothing to do with the placenta and we just have budding footballers practicing away in there

I'm having the wierd and horrible dreams too. Keep having dreams about ds getting hurt/having accidents etc

Anyway I was supposed to be having an early night. Ooops

Paranoid1stTimer · 03/12/2007 23:14

Glad I'm not alone in the weird dreams dept. I am with you on the loved ones getting hurt type dreams. They are so awful, I feel like such a sap just now - trying not to be limpet like with clingyness. My OH is NOT into that at all!!!

I suppose I might be having a footballer.... Or maybe a gymnast - the little un seems to enjoy star jumps heh heh.

Thanks for the back up! Much appreciated indeed. Ouch - just got what felt like a kick up the backside.... or whatever that is from the inside har har... Ow...

MarchMum · 04/12/2007 00:54

just made up with dh. was nerves about 'next stage of life' he reports. he took responsibility for it and i did some apologising of my own. thanks for support! :.) also went to the water birth workshop at the active birth centre which was really nice and informative. felt a very baby affirming activity.

feel like my baby bjorn is missing a piece but many thanks for suggestions - will look at the ones in john lewis on thursday for

merryberry - am nervous about reading uch post....but just had exciting thought: we might be there in the same week as we are only 5 days apart i think. would feel better if i could walk down the hall (actually, shout across the 12 bed room, let's honest) for a bit of your wit...

MarchMum · 04/12/2007 01:49

ps hit send too quick (and missing sveeral words) in earlier post but amsure you got what i meant - will do comparison shop on bb at john lewis with my trusty advisors :.)

mb, just responding long post to your hopping mad situation

yuck, have heartburn. off to fix it with candy, hee hee

glammama · 04/12/2007 10:52

Morning all!!!

Sorry to read your post Merryberry. I'm not surprised you are fumimg. Wishing you the best for your meeting with the head of midwifery.
Paranoid I have the same thing. LO lying very low and getting such weird kicks to the bladder and cervix. I'm on a nookie ban as well (as everyone on here knows as I keep going on about it!) Not that DP would be getting any at the mo as he's in the doghouse for an insensitive comment made whilst listening to the one sentence on the news about overweight women dying in childbirth/preganancy. When I tried to reassure him that on Thursday the midwife had said how healthy I was and how pleased she was he just told me to have another pain au chocolat (part of the breakfast for DD and DP). (in my defence, they were mini pain au chocolats on the table and I hadn't had any!!!)
Afterwards he asked me where my empathy was as if he didn't laugh he'd cry!!!! I was the blooming one crying!!!! AAAAGGGGHH!!!
I'm trying not to hold onto to it but he has seriously pissed me off as he was tired and grumpy and unfair.Phew, sorry, needed to get that off my chest.
Derah Happy Hanukah! Spin those dreidels!!!!!

e14mum · 04/12/2007 10:56

doup, just read on other post that you're at RL- do you live in East London too?

preggersagain · 04/12/2007 10:58

woohoo- i'm off nookie ban!! dh won't know whats hit him later

Scan is all fine, both girls are doing well and are def girls [phew] i'm carrying a LOT of water so consultant has put me down as v.high risk of pre-term birth (likely to be around 32 weeks) as my uterus just won't stretch much further! so steroid jabs have been started, one today one next thursday and then weekly after that i think- hopefully then the girls won't need intensive care and could be out of hospital very quickly as long as there are no problems!

Hope everyone else is doing ok, countdown to christmas and all that!

HolidaysQueen · 04/12/2007 13:12

Your poor DH, preggers

I've just ordered my turkey from our local butcher. It makes me sound organised, which is why I am telling you all (got to convince myself...) but it is actually the only Christmas thing I have done. Still got to think about presents, never mind actually get round to buying them. Sigh...

The baby is causing me grief at the moment. He is still in battle with my tummy because he wants to grow but my tummy muscles have other ideas, so I'm tired, hungry and in pain most of the time. Still, it appears that he has learnt to somersault today so I'm having fun feeling him bounce around, although not half as much fun as he is clearly having

FWIW, I too have a low lying placenta, and a currently breech baby, so I keep getting booted in the bladder. I wish he would turn round and start attacking my ribs just so that I don't have to go to the loo quite as often!

modsaluk · 04/12/2007 13:18

Help !

Can anyone recommend anything for restless legs and swollen ankles already only 24 weeks on Friday.

My legs on a night time as soon as i get into bed are causing me so many sleepless nights, also though is the indegestion but have the gaviscon for that.

My DR told me that she heard drinking milk and dairy products might help but so far not helping at all.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hope everyone is well.

gingercat12 · 04/12/2007 13:24

Sorry for disappearing, but I was at conferences all last week. So no computer. Will also have an exam next week (this is just an excuse, this time I revised well in advance).

Hope you are all doing more or less fine. We'll soon enter the 3rd trimester

Have also bought travel system and travel cot. They are just gorgeous. This made it real for my DH. He was totally moved. Now looking to buy a baby bjorn, but I think that can wait.

Now I start to read up the previous posts.

MarchMum · 04/12/2007 13:25

milk/dairy definately helps me

merryberry · 04/12/2007 13:37

Mods, our PG yoga teacher strongly recommends the following exercise for cramp, swollen and restless legs. It stimulates blood and lymph flow in the lower leg. For general help, do this a few times a day (say when you are waiting for a kettle to boil). For night time help do each leg for at least 3 minutes directly before bed. I don't do this much, as have avoided this problem so far, but those with it in the class say it helps:

Stand facing wall with your feet at hip width apart and placed with toes about 15 inches from the wall. Lean your upper body straight into the wall, you can rest your forehead on raised crossed arms. Step your first leg back about a foot and bend the front knee slightly. You should feel a small stretch in the back of the calf of your bent leg. Make sure the leg which has stepped back has your foot flat on the ground. You should feel a bigger stretch down this calf muscle. You can gently ease yourself (ie slow bounce) your bent knee to increase the stretch.

In addition, she also advises simple ankle rotations when sitting, with leg raised, again to encourage the leg tissues to drain. Also, when sitting on floor or sofa, cross leg over you lap so you can reach ankle around the bump and gently stroke massage the ankle from the foot towards the knee in repeated strokes. Or get dp to do it if too uncomfortable. Use cream/oil if you fancy. Again, this massage helps the pooling fluid to reabsorb into the bloodstream and be carried away. I only do these when in the yoga class, but they are bloody lovely. You would want to do this all as often as you get a chance.

I had bad swelling at end of last PG, and the old 'eat les salt, drink enough water' thing was a must to keep it under control.

e14mum · 04/12/2007 13:40

Bananas, mods? Just taking a guess... might work... supposed to help joint aches.

Banana dairy smoothies with gaviscon on the side, coming up!

I've taken to swinging my legs over the side of the bed to stretch them and then half dozing with them hanging off. It's not that bad! Or, if I prop myself up with pillows and then bend my knees up (like you're reading in bed) I can just about fall asleep that way too. But my gripe is more hips, less restless legs.

I bought stamps for Christmas cards today. Maybe the cards will get in the post by Christmas now!
