oh pg that is likely to be so soon! how is your arm healing?

poor old glammama and pain-o-gate. hope you get an apology later.

what's a dreidel, can you eat one of them?

imjin100 · 04/12/2007 13:51

modsaluk, haven't had it much recently but used to get it all the time(pre bump). Have resorted to feet in cold bath up to ankles in the middle of the night many times. It works for me - dont know why. However Merryberry's idea sounds a great deal nicer and hopefully stops it before it starts.
good luck.
Preggersagain lovely news about hte girls so glad although a little scary to think they mightn't stay cooking too long..fingers crossed a bit longer.

be good all and hope aches, pains and bouncing bairns ease off soon.

glammama · 04/12/2007 14:15

Lol at you, merryberry . No you can't eat a dreidel as they're wooden spinning tops. You absolutely must eat foods fried in oil though as the original miracle of the Hanukkah menorah involved the discovery of the small flask of oil used by the Jewish High Priest. Which means doughnnuts!!!!!
Talking of highly calorific foods, I have just read my previous post back and it appears to read that that DP was joking about something awful happening to me. Actually he was annoyed that I wasn't taking my weight and it's implications seriously enough. And my reassurance that I was healthy, meant to make him feel better was me making flippant remarks and being umempathic!!! Ah well, it's Chanukah, I'll text him and be the bigger person, (hahah) again.

e14mum · 04/12/2007 14:37

Yum- so I can have chips for my tea then? (They are vegetables too of course)
Are the blue festive lights up near you yet glam? They don't seem to make their way as far south as we are!

preggersagain · 04/12/2007 15:27

mb- arm is slowly getting there- no pain now but still have the cast on, took a bit of getting used to but sort of like a second skin now- have even learnt to drive with it on its a bit of a race to see which happens first- i'm supposed to have the cast on for another 6.5 weeks (8 weeks in total) and the twins are obviously threatening to arrive around that time [eeek]

Never mind- what will be will be! I treated myself today to matching wallaboo footmuffs for my maxi-cosis, and the changing bag- they are soooooo soft and fluffy i could curl up and go to sleep in it Other than that i think we are done with getting all the stuff sorted- prams, car seats etc all sorted and waiting in my office, nursery done- awaiting carpet but thats booked for jan 4th- i seem to have run out of stuff to buy I'll find something!!

glammama · 04/12/2007 17:11

yes, the blue lights are up in Whitechapel now. Looking very festive!

MarchMum · 04/12/2007 17:20

btw trying to find hanukhah cards for my jewish friends and central london is barren except for ones that might have been printed in 1972 and come in packs of 20.

monthlymayhem · 04/12/2007 17:23

Hello Ladies

Thought I would fill you in with my 'eventful' 24hours.

Went to loo yesterday evening and started getting bright red fresh bleeding with absolutely no warning. Called maternity unit and they told me to get up to labour unit with overnight bag asap. Was put on tracing machines for baby's heartbeat and for sign of contractions and also given steroid injections incase LO was about to make an appearance . The thought that having baby appear at 25 weeks was any kind of possibility was VERY scary!!

Anyway, had all sorts of blood tests and admitted over night to the ward, where I got absolutely no sleep due to crying newborns, loud midwives etc, etc...

Went for emergency scan this morning to check baby ok and position of placenta before getting internal. Placenta is high out of the way so wasn't the problem and baby is absolutely fine - phew!!

Internal revealed the bleeding was due to tip of womb slightly rubbing on cervix and causing an erosion, which isn't anything to worry about although might cause spotting etc from time to time in future. They've also sent away swabs to the lab to make sure no underlying infection.

Got home this afternoon. So all in all a big relief, and planning to put my feet up, relax and eat too much chocolate

GLAMpresentsforMAMAplease · 04/12/2007 17:29

Monthly That sounds too awful for words. Glad you and baby are ok. Keep those feet up and the chocolate coming. Sending you {{{{{hugs}}}}}}

Can you tell who this is under the Santa hat and tinsel?

derah · 04/12/2007 17:46

MM - how scary!!!!! Glad everything turned out to be OK.

Happy Hanukkah to you too Glam! I've got the donuts in and the hanukkiah all ready to light. It's the first year that DD will really appreciate it so we're looking forward to DH getting home.

MarchMum - I would just get any random Christmas cards (most only say Happy Holidays these days anyway) and write Happy Hanukkah in them!

HolidaysQueen · 04/12/2007 17:57

monthlymayhem - gosh, that must have been very scary! i'm really glad that you are back at home and it was all a false alarm. Chocolate is very good for shock and stress, I find, so keep eating.

I've just spent a day working from home. I'm really struggling with horrid HR forms that I have to fill in as part of my whole reorganisation/applying for new jobs/redundancy saga which is very tedious. Heaven knows when the whole bloody process will be over. TBH I'd just rather know - redundancy pay off is so good that either that or getting a nice shiny new job to come back to after the baby is born is equally acceptable. So I just want an answer now!!!

Baby and I are about to do Davina's prenatal DVD which I love despite her gurning. I'm hoping the exercise will send the baby to sleep as he has persisted in doing somersaults all day and my tummy is getting a bit tired of it now. I might then go into pregnancy overdrive and listen to natal hypnotherapy CD this evening (I finally won an eBay auction - yay!!!!)

turtle23 · 04/12/2007 20:49

Have had a strange couple of weeks as DH lost his job, and my working days are coming to a close very soon. Haven't felt much like posting.
Hope everyone is feeling well/better.
Looks like I may make it to the meetup on Thursday... DH found a copy of the Gina Ford book in local charity shop for 20p and bought it thinking one of you might like to have it ! Anyone?
Marchmum...would you mind bringing triscuits? Thanks!!

HolidaysQueen · 05/12/2007 07:24

turtle - that's bad luck for your DH. Did it come out of the blue or was he aware it might happen? I can sympathise as I'm going through a whole reorganisation/redundancy process at the moment and won't now know the outcome until Jan even though we've known about it since October! Why is it that at a time when you want things to just run smoothly and everything else in life to be as normal that all sorts of stuff like this happens? Very sweet of your DH to buy Gina Ford for one of us though - if I hadn't been so hasty and already bought it myself, I'd have snapped it up!

DH came home with some sad news last night - someone he knows through a social activity was expecting a baby at end of November. DH saw him for first time in a few weeks last night and went bounding up eager to find out if they'd had the baby and how things were going. They had, but she was stillborn It sounds just awful. I don't know them - met him only a couple of times and don't know her - but it was really playing on our minds last night as it seems so close to us, with me being pregnant now as well, and us having been wondering whether they'd had the baby only half an hour before DH went out and saw him. My little boy, bless him, did his best last night - he was particularly active and didn't shy away from his dad's hand for a change, as if he was eager to prove to us that he is still alive and kicking.

On a lighter note, I listened to the pregnancy relaxation CD from natal hypnotherapy yesterday evening. The last I remember is lying there wondering if it was really working and next thing I knew DH walked in to find me fast asleep with CD having finished about 30 mins previously So it is definitely relaxing!

imjin100 · 05/12/2007 08:09

Monthlymahem - so glad to know you are alright although it must have been terrifying...the advice here is always good - keep eating chocolate...I shall also eat chocolate to support you vicariously.
Turtle - sorry to hear about you DH. I hope you are both holding up and whilst I understand you don't feel like posting much don't forget that this post isn't just about baby movements, twinges etc so if you want a really good moan about life in the real world we'll all be listening.
Holidays I'm so sorry to hear about your friend - they will be in my thoughts big time....can't say more really....too much could be said...just cyber love and hugs.

hoping everyone ok today. Envious of you doing the Davinia video, I have done nothing for weeks. IN the mornings I'm shattered and at night can hardly stand up cos of my back. Still love being pregnant but my spine is testing that love to the limits right now.

oh and happy hanukha to those of you who celebrate.
would it be appropriate for the rest of us to share in some holiday chocolate on your behalf...?

HolidaysQueen · 05/12/2007 09:20

Oh imjin - your back sounds just miserable, but so glad you are still loving being pregnant despite it. I too am really enjoying it despite the aches and pains - I find it such a comfort when there's bad news, or when work is crap, or even just when weather is as miserable as today, to just sit and pat my bump and feel the baby have a little wriggle.

If you do ever feel like staying upright long enough then Davina is great as it is really gentle and it's broken down into 10 minute sections (warm up, aerobics, toning, relaxation). The relaxation bit at the end is all done lying down so at the very least you could try that! Alternatively have you tried swimming (or even just floating in the pool!) at all as being able to take the weight off your back for a while might help? I know someone with a chronic back condition who swims every day because it is the only way she can exercise and not feel her back hurt.

MumOfBillyTheKid · 05/12/2007 09:47

MM - what a scare for you that must have been! Glad to hear all is well.

Turtle - Sorry to hear about your DH's job - bless him for thinking of us with the book (think I'm getting one for Xmas!)

Imjin - I recommend pilates - I go once a week and it works wonders on my back and stress levels!

I second the eating chocolate for and cyper love and hugs to all who are not well, feeling low, broken arms, sad news of friends etc. Seems very inapropriate that i'm stressing about being away for a couple of days, house being a mess, MIL coming to stay, Xmas shopping etc - so I will try not to!

Keep your chins up girls, eat chocolate and keep doing the PFEs!

MumOfBillyTheKid · 05/12/2007 09:57

Sorry - Forgot to say too - HQ stay calm and best of luck with your redundancy stuff (I've just been through it too!) - as you say, it's not important in the light of LO kicking away in your tummy

e14mum · 05/12/2007 10:12

Hi girls,

Just adding in a warm hello and hugs to all. (Esp those having a rough week ) I'm really looking forward to seeing some of you tomorrow. I had my own little John Lewis trip after work last night and I feel much more sorted about what we need to buy for baby.

I'm desperate for a hot chocolate now, and will be popping out to Pret(first choice at the mo) as soon as any of my collegues show up and I can convince them to join me! (The hours these researchers keep!)

Just one more thing- does anyone else in London have to change at Bank these days!? How blinkin long does it take to fix escalators?!?

derah · 05/12/2007 11:11

Imjin - sharing donuts is more appropriate! But chocolate will do fine! That Scottish tradition of the deep-fried Mars bar would be ideal! [yuk emoticon]

Some humour to cheer up those having a hard time this week....

imjin100 · 05/12/2007 11:18

ah ha, I have the answer, chocolate donuts...I won't complain! It will beat the dull digestive I had this morning!

THanks for ideas/advice. I am going to try swimming tomorrow lunch time I think and will also do davina this weekend. I'm sure they will all help but when it's very sore it's just hard to actually move and paracetomol are about as useful as ...well, they aren't much good let'leave it at that! My in laws were with us last night and i managed to hold in the tears but im not sure i hid them very well. Anyway- I can't complain - at least my little person is safe and sound

Derah - you've made me laugh! Love it.

turtle23 · 05/12/2007 12:08

Bugger. Thought I had perfect excuse to get to meet tomorrow as my charge was being dropped off at Great Portland street late afternoon. Now her appt has been changed to 230 I have to take her home after. If anyone is milling about London at 330 let me know!!
Thanks for all the words of support. x

Prisci · 05/12/2007 14:52

Thanks for the cheering. I have not been able to sleep properly for days now, due to a strong pain in my ribcage on the right, like someone putting big sewing needles in between the ribs from the inside. All I have been able to find out, is that it might actually be normal and be due to the fact I don't have a very big ribcage or belly, thus everything is being pushed up, but it hurts so much from 2pm onwards. Anyone experiencing the same symptoms....the paracetamol is indeed not exactly effective?. Any suggestions?

merryberry · 05/12/2007 15:02

Prisci, yes me and it is 'normal'. Luckily mine usually starts later than 2pm, you poor thing. Rest keeps it at bay a bit. I had it with ds1 as well, instant cure when he engaged. There are 2 or 3 yoga stretches that relieve it for a while, and sometimes I just give up and use paracetemol. Will think/move through the stretches for you and post them later.

Having a rest myself now: the pain is here at the moment, currently compounded by muscle aches from coughing along to the chest, tonsil and sinus infection I had diagnosed this am. Had them for up to 10 days and have been functioning the whole time, even thinking I was better on Monday! Oh well, if it is bacterial the antib's will kick in any minute now, and may help me sleep tonight.

GLAMpresentsforMAMAplease · 05/12/2007 15:21

Sorry to hear about all your aliments. I do hope you all feel better soon with ribcages stretching and infections clearing up.
Sorry you can't make the meet up turtle

On a better note I have just sent out invites to my leaving work do. My last day at work is the 21st December, wahey!!!

MarchMum · 05/12/2007 15:27
