Back to bobsmum

Dh got the job!! He phoned at lunchtime - I'm very relieved - we'll be ok now until the middle of May when the contract ends.

However, the job's in Edinburgh with the Scottish Exec (ie Govt!), the hospital's in Glasgow and I'm somewhere in between. Meanwhile my parents will be in Portugal round about my due date. So logistics are going to be...interesting

The other downside is that as it's a contract, dh won't get paid if he takes time off, even for paternity leave, so he's most likely going to miss out on a lot of new newborn stuff. He'll also have a 2 hour plus commute, so be back home sometime after 7pm. I think we'll be shifting dcs' bedtime for thhe next while.

But like you say MM - it's either that or we don't pay the bills

Hopefully this post might be a stepping stone to other things or at least be good to have on the CV.

I can breathe again for now though.....

Wow - I'm not going to be able to catch up with everything but at measuring 50wks and lasting to 34. The consultant today at my appt wants me to last to 36 I feel so huge I really don't think that is going to happen. All is well though.

Names - we are really struggling, we have one big long list of names and each time we come up with a name we like we put it down. Sometimes names that you don't like so much work really nicely as middle names .
We are now at a point where we will go through and put names together to see if we can agree.

dd is Jaimee Danielle and ds is Brook Dean so both of them have a girl/boy name which makes it even harder for us to come up with 3 more names we like that 'go'. We like 'non popular' names if that makes sense. Don't tell anybody your name choices - no matter how much someone dislikes a name you might choose your child will grow into their name and suit them. Parents have already chosen their names and shouldn't have a say, sisters/brothers etc can choose their own when it is their turn.

Here are a couple of first and middle names that I put together. Unfortunately I like both Reece and Regan but we can't have 2 girls with the same initials.

Mischa Jade
Reece or Regan Sofia
Aria Laine
Tasmin Grace

Take care all!

JackBlackRoady · 31/01/2008 08:10

All gorgeous names Chuffed - you are right about not telling anyone choices!

1 week today I move house, I am so excited!

I just wanted to say to mumblesmummy, I know what it's like, when I started teaching I looked young and was 24, and was sometimes mistaken for a student. The respect thing really got me down sometimes, but you have got the best career, I have never regretted training to be a teacher. The worst days are dreadful, but the best days more than make up for it. It sounds like you are having a huge list of things to cope with at the moment - thinking about you {{{hugs}}}

Have a good day y'all

Hello all

Hope that we are all OK today im well and sure now that im getting sciatica as it sound just like yours mumblesmummy and no where near as terrible as the grating of pelvic bones

Mummblesmummy
Sorry about your DH that's totally crappy news ive got everything crossed for you that he will find a new job asap and can tell the other lot to Bugger off !!!!
With regards to that little S*?T how tried to push you i Would have slapped her and then blamed it on my pregnant hormones
(i'm very anti violence when not pregnant !!)xx

Bobsmum
So please that your DH got the job you must feel very relived even though it will take some getting used to ! xx

janemf · 31/01/2008 12:18

Pleased to hear Bobsmum's DH got the job - being able to breath easy about that must be a huge relief.

Great names - Aria is just lovely, and having to choose six is amazing! We're having trouble getting one of each. DH and I didn't have middle names and both chose them later in life, which I think we'll let Sproggins do too.
x

Mumblesmummy · 31/01/2008 13:49

Thanks everyone who's been lovely about the pushing thing. Generally I wouldn't have fussed too much but it was outside college on the street and they're really threatening rough teenagers, and the girl said something nasty to me when she pushed (and she pushed my tummy) so I felt really weird about my bump afterwards, like I can't even protect him when he's in my tummy, let alone when he's out Normally I would have had a go, but there was too many for one thing, and I feel soooooooooo vulnerable pregnant. She even had a shaved head minger. I've got to be honest, I'm not too fussed about it today

DPs got a job interview woohoo. Fingers crossed. And it's better money. Although I could kill him at the moment because we've just had a row . Coz he's being a wally.

I got offered a new job today, but can't take it as it's teaching up until the end of the year and I'm too pregnant, but they're going to reconsider me in September!!! Another whisp of hope

Congrats Boabsmum- hope it works out and hope he's home in time for the baby being born.

YellowFlower · 31/01/2008 15:52

Hi all

Welcome chatname, mum2scrap, janemf and truffy18

Good luck on the job hunt / with the new jobs boabsmum and Mumblesmummy.

Sweatbean ? my hospital notes say to count the number of kicks from 28 weeks but it might be different in different areas?

Mitchell, so sorry for your friend, when / if she?s ready to talk about it I have a friend who lost a baby and she found the chat rooms on sands (www.uk-sands.org) really useful. Fwiw my friend actually enjoyed being around babies afterwards as it?s what she thinks about a lot of the time. Whilst no-one can replace her LO I guess it must be hard to suddenly switch off.

We?re having similar problems with names, boys names are so much harder than girls. When my sister told our gran what she was calling the twins ? Daniel and Simon - gran simply said ?oh dear?. The only name we can agree on at the moment for our little one is Joseph Peter but my mum and gran are anti that. Not sure how dps family will react, apparently when he was born his gran called him a different first name for the first 6 months so it could be fun!

pregnabrain · 31/01/2008 22:07

hello all

A big welcome to all the new faces.

Mumblesmummy - sorry to hear that you got pushed by a student. I totally agree with you about feeling vulnerable at the moment. I am so anxious about falling or getting knocked. Anyway, good to hear you're putting it behind you now.

Mitchell81 - how sad about your friend. It must be so hard to lose a pregnancy once you get to this stage.

Loving a lot of the name suggestions on here. I think Rowan is lovely for a boy, and Isaac. And I really like Eva for a girl.

Pazza - Elodie and Amelie are both French girl's names I like....

We FINALLY had our scan yesterday evening. It was really lovely. The bubba's growing well and is healthy, which was a big relief to hear. We even got a bit of 4D action - we were the last people in the clinic that evening and I think the sonographers were in a good mood . Sadly, baby's face was stuffed into the placenta so we couldn't see that, but we got a great view of its back and sweet little bum . I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who's considering one - what an amazing experience!

Anyway, we've kept the sex as a surprise (although I was doing my damndest to look for any signs!). So dh will get his Hollywood "It's a...." moment!

Azaduhi · 31/01/2008 23:10

londonirish · 01/02/2008 14:57

Hello all, sorry I haven't posted since just before my big 30th birthday!! Thanks for all the lovely birthday wishes at the time. Turns out DH planned not 1 but 2 surprise events. My mum & dad and 3 of my brothers came over fom home. DH and I were supposed to be going out for a quiet meal that weekend but they all turned up along with my in laws! So I really wasn't expecting another surprise the next night! God I was shattered after that!
Went for a midwife appt. there now. She was lovely. She asked if I would consider going part time due to me getting dizzy spells and breathlessness, usually during teaching. Am finding it quite difficult scaling back my work load & I know that I stll take too much on. Does any one else feel the same?
Despite all this baby is fine. At the moment it's bum is jutting out of the right side of my belly! I look weirdly lop-sided!
Welcome to all the newcomers! I can't believe there are so many of us now. Think of all those babies!!
Mumblesmummy-some kids are horrible, hope you're ok & that you get that job.
Bobsmum-now you can relax!
JBR-Good luck with the move-don't be lifting any big boxes!
Hope everyone is well & looking forward to a relaxing weekend!
xxxxx

Fleurie76 · 01/02/2008 17:31

Hello everyone and bumps.
Glad your DH got that job Bobsmum, must be a relief!
Good luck Mumblesmummy for your DP's interview.
Yellowflower - thanks for info on when to start counting kicks
Had a mw appointment today and luckily this time Fabio, the young male midwife wasn't there unlike last time when I had a skirt on rather than trousers!
My blood pressure seems to be creeping slightly up, still within normal range but I'm worried as it's been high in the past, does that mean I am automatically comdemned to getting high blood pressure in pregnancy?
Bit worried about it despite the mw saying it's still normal
Anyway names, it's not that easy is it?!
DH is currently making a list to go with mine, then we will compare and see where we match....could be interesting!
Have a good weekend all
X

Mitchell81 · 01/02/2008 17:45

Fleurie, not sure about the High BP, but if the midwife is not worried, then I am sure it is ok. Londonirish I hope you can cut down your hours if you want to.How often does everyone see there midwife, I last saw mine at 16 weeks for bloods and not again until 28 weeks when I have anti-D. Is that the norm? Going to Manchester tomorrow for 2 nights, DH has an exam at Manchester uni, so looking forward to a bit of shopping, hopefully we can get out as its been snowing all day and we live in the highlands and most of the surrounding mountains have closed the roads. Will need to drive further and go via Aberdeen. Sorry for the long last bit.Enjoy your weekend

Morning all and welcome to Azaduhi

Fleurie76 i have to say that ive been making my own appointments as i was the same as you but felt that its to long to wait from 16 to 28 weeks so made an appointment at about 20 weeks and have made another one for wednesday so will be 24 weeks. I think that if you want to see the MW then go and see her im sure that with my first i had double the appointments that i have with this one!!

Well im off to have a lovely lazy weekend hope everyone else is able to do the same xxxxx

sweetbean · 02/02/2008 09:00

Oh something else i wanted to say is i got my results back for my toxoplasmosis and i have never had it so can i just ask how many of you know if you have had it or not and hows had it already ??

I'm shocked ive never had it as i was sure i would have having grown up in the country with cats and eating loads of contraband stuff (contraband when pregnant !! and also cuddling loads of tiny baby lambs.

podglet · 02/02/2008 15:57

Hi all,

JBR - good luck with the move - must update my stats as DS is now 15 months!

Fleurie - with DS I still only saw the midwife at 16 & 28 weeks, then was on consultant lead care because of some problems. This time it is the same but I have had consultant appointments in between. I think though, that if you want to see her, then just book up, she won't mind.

Mumblesmummy - for you re the pushing, what a cow! Hope you are ok now.

Bump here is ok. Very active in the evenings though my work is ok but I have a desk job so it isn't too tiring (only mentally draining) - 10 weeks to go!

KangaAndRoo · 02/02/2008 19:40

OMG i'm so sorry...I have read everything but can't keep up!!

Mumblesmummy- bitchslap her...inconsiderate cow !!!!

Welcome to newbies and your bumps.

Well done on dh getting job...bobsmum!

Mitchell...so sorry about your friends loss.

Londonirish....breathlessness and dizzy??...could be low BP and low ferritin (like me!! ) take it easy!!!

I went on a shopping splurge today heehee....got LOADS of stuff for DDs new room...bought her a chou chou doll too so she can get used to a crying baby ROFL!!

Got a cheap nursing pillow from Argos too...half price!! My crib is on its way and I have my babydan seat...(not that pleased with it but hey!) bought moses basket and pram sheets and a couple more maternity bras.

And can I just say LOL @ FANJO hahaha I sooo know what you mean though...it happens to me more often than not, when Ive been for a pee!

take care mums n bumps x

newbishad · 03/02/2008 12:50

Dear all,

Thanks for including me in the stats. I feel so lucky to be part of an ante-natal club because I thought I would never have a child for so long.

I am English in Ireland. I think you are absolutely right to consider time off work or cutting back. I have decided not to go back to work! I have enough to cope with. I am also a bit breathless today.
Services in Ireland are terrible. I have no access to a midwife (other than at my one monthly antenatal appointment, even then you don't get to see the same one and then they only take notes)and it can take a couple of days even to be able to see a doctor. In comparison in my part of England you can be seen immediately.

Azaduhi · 03/02/2008 13:25

i do have a dd1 4 years old

chatname · 04/02/2008 05:35

We had a bit of a scare after I posted on Tues - I phoned our maternity hospital and they wanted me to come in for checks. In fact, they said they thought I would need to be under observation for a bit, but we did get to go home that evening1

(The midwife I spoke to was v concerned by the pains I was getting but I did think it was just ligament pain and so I guess did the doctor who spoke to us).

Since then we have been acquiring all sorts of stuff, mainly second hand. A rather elderly Landrover buggy. A whole selection of clothes in sizes tiny baby to 6 months. An assortment of grobag sleeping gear. A set of Arsenal babygros ( ).

I have seen some baby furniture I like but am wondering how much I want to splurge...
