Well my day just stopped being boring...just had a long talk with the member of staff who did not want to come in this morning. We were supposed to do her appraisal, but it turns out she has been attacked a few days ago by a man on her way home. I was inwardly sceptical, until I saw the bruises, on places no one has bruises . She is Asian and is trying to hide it from her husband as she is so embarrased and he will go out to find and kill the guy (well, that is pretty much what mine would do, gentle soul though he is). She also does not want to report it to the police. I advised her not to pretend that this is going to go away or that it is not so bad 'just because' she was not raped. I convinced her to call crime stoppers so that at least the police can keep an eye on the area and protect other women, and to call victim support (she does not want to tell her family). How horrible. Glad she told me though, but she won't allow me to record it anywhere, so it won't be much help is she is unable to work.

mixedmama · 22/11/2007 15:26

Bugger they wont let me see ebay.

madmouse - OMG that is awful. There is a man going around my area aattacking women so far he has "only" groped and tried to kiss and then ran off, but it is only a matter of time. I have been attacked before and it is very scary thankfully nowhere near as badly as it sounds that your employee was.

LS -you given me a job for this afternoon - finding baby trainers on EBay!

Madmouse - really feel for the woman, but good job you persaudeed her to call crimestoppers.

tripletsandtwins · 22/11/2007 15:37

That's terrible madmouse! That poor lady! She really needs to get counselling and it's totally confidential, so if she doesn't want her dh to know, he doesn't have to. I know from talking to people who have raped that if they didn't get counselling help, but instead sort of force themselves to ignore the emotional pain and 'get on with their lives', that may work quite well for a few years, but eventually they get severe depression, which often drives them into alcoholism (or some other addiction) and may require years of psychiatric treatment when they are older.

Denial s a very common reaction ... which is rather a shame, 'cos the sooner people get help, the better (in most cases). I hope she does report it.

susiemj · 22/11/2007 18:31

Evening all. Just popping in to say had MW appointment today. All is fine but she's looking like a pretty large baby! I'm measuring 2cm ahead on the fundal height doodah which puts her in the 90th percentile (I guess that means top 10% of weight, does it?). Gulp!

What is your job madmouse? I feel very sorry for that lady.

MrsMcJnr · 22/11/2007 19:23

Hey ladies busy day so no time to post or catch up. Hope everyone is well. All was fine at our scan this morning, Beanie was very active and wanted to show us feet, hands, finger sucking, it?s back, it?s ribs measuring about above and weighing in about 4lb6 so all on track speak tomorrow

Susiemj ? this is the online store on eBay that I have ordered the BF nighties from

Tripletsandtwins - bedrest - aagh! Lots and lots of sympathy. This is the point where you start hoping they'll come early and then thinking no, I don't want them early really... How are your other dcs coping? Are you at home? 32 weeks is fab though.

Well, started working out my "birthplan" with the consultant anaesthetist on Tuesday. First big decision is, do I consent to cell salvage during the surgery - which means they catch all the blood that I'm losing and give it back to me. Next decision, what would I like for pain relief for the 48 hours after the birth when I'm likely to be in intensive care - I can have a patient-controlled morphine drip or an epidural. I've never had an epidural and I'm a little stunned at being offered one now - I'm having a cs under GA for heavens sake. Still, nice to be offered choices. Then, I have to choose what I want my baby to be fed before I'm able to start expressing - donated bmilk or premature-baby formula. Its all good fun...

Isn't the birth plan there to remind your dh what to ask for? The most useful thing I had on mine for first birth was "BRAN". What are the Benefits? What are the Risks? What are the Alternatives? What happens if we do Nothing? I have asked those so many times now! Followed by the useful sentence "thankyou for your advice, we will bear that in mind when making our decision".

Skin-to-skin - I need to find out how useful it is if dh does it. Does it still help with getting the baby interested in feeding? Does anyone know? Cos I will be in ICU at one end of the hospital and baby will be in NICU at the other end.

katyt1 · 22/11/2007 20:37

aaargh, did long post and lost it!

t&t - bed rest nightmare, how does that work with 3 3yr olds????

susie & beller - hope hips and pelvis calm down, am trying to take it slow and surround myself with pillows.

bad luck re some mum comments, what are they like?!

just had chinese, yum! might have to have seconds!

MamaMaiasaura · 22/11/2007 21:24

T&T - yikes re bed rest x

MrsMc - glad scan went well x

Lucky - sorry for hassle with your mum

am really sorry not posting much. trying to sort out selling house, buying car, managing being sinlge parent while dp away and also being ditsy (killed my mobile in washing machine )

Feel like a weeble and all swollen up.

ayrshirelolo · 22/11/2007 21:45

Hi, like everyone else feeling shattered today and too busy / tired to say much, leave work 3 weeks today and it seems like a long way away yet.... Sympathy with the mum thing, ladies! Mine is a bit mixed, sometimes fab sometimes a nightmare, and i have an older sister who is a clone of her in that respect! My mil is a gem, though...
t&t take it easy, or as easy as possible! Madmouse - you too.. i know if i've been dealing with someone with a traumatic story during the day it's very difficult not to take some of it in (sounding like an old hippy, but true!)Sounds like you've done what you can.
fluffy - sympathy! if you don't fancy Beechams then try a hot bath and some Vicks or Olbas oil to clear the nose.. miserable when you can't breathe!
fruitful, sounds like at least they are giving you options, although fairly scary ones! Sure you'll make right decisions for you and baby!
Awen, feel for you with the mobile thing... and the weeble reference! Take care... when is dp back? Soon i hope!
Katy1 glad the chinese was good.. had a big healthy stir fry for dinner and then ruined the effect with 2 fun size twix left over from Hallowe'en!!Better than last night when i had dh's famous hot pot followed by an entire packet of butterscotch angel delight... haven't eaten that stuff for about 15 years! Bump was doing somersaults all night... must have been all those e numbers, guilty lolo!
Gingeme, glad the car is groovy, sympathy with the lack of sleep! hope you get 8 uninterupted hours tonight, pal! (ha! fat chance? )
Anyway, gonna try and get an early night, thank Crunchy it's nearly Friday, felt like some eejit squeezed an extra couple of days into the middle of the week this week!
Take care all, sending you all a virtual hug... > night night! xx

MrsBiscuit · 23/11/2007 07:32

Morning

Couldn't sleep so came to work early. God it's depressing switching on the lights. Well, at least I'll leave nice and early tonight.

Amani · 23/11/2007 08:16

Morning all,

Anyone else want to join the 'Rubbish night sleep' club?

Good to hear the scan went well Mrs McJnr.

Starting to get the pelvic pains etc, which I'm taking as a sign that it's all loosening up down there for the birth.

Can I be nosey and ask which position people sleep at night??? Just want to see if I can try and alternative comfy position.

I try and lie on my left hand side with a pillow under my bump, but I always end up leaning forward so that I am slightly sleeping on my bump (IYKWM)

MrsBiscuit · 23/11/2007 08:44

Amani

Exactly the same with positioning - start off cuddled up to my long pillow but find myself leaning in on my bump. Inevitably lots of kicks follow so I roll back a bit.

Then I end up on my back, snore a bit, get prodded by dh, and cuddle up to the pillow again. Repeat ad infinitum.

Amani · 23/11/2007 08:59

Sounds exactly like my dilemma....

oh well, at least I'll be some what prepared for the sleepless nights when LO arrives.

Lulubump · 23/11/2007 09:31

Amani and MrsMcJ - I do the exact same thing to start off. Lean on pillow, then somehow end up over onto bump, bump kicks, roll over onto back, then onto other side, and use DH to prop up one leg ...then repeat all night long!

Saw my MW yest - all well. Told her about unreasonable boss wanting me to do 2 London trips next week, despite my constant exhaustion and she told me to go and see the GP....so have my GP appointment at 11, and hopefully he'll sign me off for two weeks (apparently, mw couldn't sign me off). Yay - means I prob won't go back then till after mat leave.

Have been reading all your posts - can't believe I was about 3 pages behind after 2 days

Hope everyone's well, although we seem to be getting tired and a bit run down. We can do this!!!!!

MamaMaiasaura · 23/11/2007 09:34

can i join your club amani? another crap night sleep here too. When i get to bed my back starts itching and then the bump is itchy then i lie on left side and nose blocks up so i roll over and enevitably baby squirms around. I havent got one of those pillows although i have bought a v one i dont want to unwrap it yet and have it all fresh for baby. dont have pillow under bump but i do scrunch up duvet between my legs or stick a pillow there. Alos i get to sleep and then i think i need a wee (which there is a pitiful amount there). Re the pain down there - def think i am loosening up as feel like i have been kicked there/long horse ride.

fruitful · 23/11/2007 09:40

The bit I really hate is when I wake up in the night and think "this is uncomfortable and my arm/leg is going numb but its such an effort to roll over". Turning over at night just should not be a major life decision!

I'm looking forward to sleep once the baby is here - I know I'll get woken up, but at least all the sleep in between feeds is decent sound sleep!

susiemj · 23/11/2007 09:49

Morning all -

Tripletsandtwins - hope you've got some nice bgi pager-turner novels to keep you company. Sorry about bedrest.

Fruitful, Don't know whether to be happy or sad at the choices. It's good you're being given them, but they're pretty daunting choices. My hunch is, skin to skin on DH would still be nice for baby, but I don't really know and might be being romantic.

Katy - Are the pillows working? You can take paracetamol for this, but don't know how you feel about it. It doesn't cross the placenta.

Awen good luck with all your busy business. Hope you're keeping your eating up!

Ayreshire. Sorry you're so tired. I seem to be getting more and more tired/detached and impatient! my MIL is fab too!

Gingeme - hope you're enjoying shiny new car

Mrs Biscuit - are you still awake there? Hope the day goes well.

MrsMc - thanks for the link. I'll check it out in a sec. Must have been so lovely to see beanie! Glad all is fine.

Amani - left hand - sleep for an hour - right hand - sleep for an hour. grrr.

Lulubump - Glad your boss is sort of being understanding. I know MWs can't sign you off. You might like to double check your maternity leave policy as for teachers, if you go sick within a month of your maternity leave date it triggers the start of maternity leave - or SOMETHING like that. Which might mean you 'lose' a couple of weeks. Don't know if this matters much to you at this stage! Hope I haven't caused any stress.

sabinar · 23/11/2007 09:56

good morning all.

I had an ok sleep... was pretty restless and wide awake at about 3am after a loo visit and then restless legs, but did manage to get back to sleep so that's good.

I'm off to the osteo today and hoping that she can do something miraculous with my ankle... suspect I might have overly high expectations tho'. Lots of work to do as well.

The sky is so blue and clear and beautiful here today... I'm looking forward to getting outside for a while - meeting a friend for lunch after osteo before heading back home to work again.

re: sleeping- I've got my body length pillow that I use between legs and to support bump. I really do try to sleep on my left but have to admit that I end up on my right side more often than not... it's just more comfortable!

We theoretically learned about pain relief and nappy changing in NCT classes last night. I feel pretty clear on the pain relief side of things but still pretty clueless re: nappy changing. Guess I'll have no shortage of opportunity to practice soon enough

Hope your Friday goes as quickly as you want it too!

fluffymummy · 23/11/2007 10:00

Morning everyone!! ((Fluffy peers around surprisingly empty Friday chat-room and tries to figure out where all her friends have disappeared to this week....then sniffs loudly, coughs a bit, blows her nose and re-thinks her thoughts))

Madmouse - gosh, was at your post, poor girl, and poor you for having to deal with it - that sounds way stressful.

Fruitful - eek [panic face emoticon] - you seem to be dealing with this so well, big ((((hugs)))) at you. I'm sure whatever you decide will be right - and, as you say, at least they are trying to give you some choices.

T&T - take it easy!!! (OK, easier said than done)

Amani - I was sleeping on LHS, or trying to, with the aid of my body pillow (altho like you and MrsMcJnr not always managing it all night) but my sciatica/back pain are all on my LHS so I'm now trying to sleep on my RHS. Unfortunately that means putting the pillow down the middle of the bed so DH isn't so happy but it does seem to be working

Amani · 23/11/2007 10:01

Lulubump - am glad Susie mentioned it - if your doc sign you off due to a pregnancy related condition, 4 weeks before your due date then you may be forced to take mat leave.

Sabinar - hope the ankle gets better, it's been bothering you for a while now?

ichty boobs - think I've scratched mine too hard and now they hurt - sorry if it is TMI

Naetha · 23/11/2007 10:01

Morning all, sorry people are having crap nights sleeps - I slept OKish, then though I still had ages left to go, but the alarm went off

My concert was awesome - was surprised beanie didn't bounce around that much, but then he's probably used to loud music by now! I was absolutely knackered by it though - walked about a mile through Manchester from the station to the hotel to the venue and back again, and then the same thing the next morning! Glad my waters didn't break though! The only problem is, I'm now all fired up and want to go and see more bands, but I guess that's on hold for a couple of years! Hopefully in 3-4 years we can take LO to the festival we go to every year

Think beanie has definitely moved down - getting lots of pressure on my bladder and in my pelvis.

Our kitchen is coming together nicely now, but unfortunately my stepdad has overrun a little and despite originally going home on Saturday, he's now not going home until Wednesday! I can't wait until everything's sorted, my mat leave starts and I get get on with getting stuff ready! The first two weeks of mat leave is going to be majorly busy while I finish painting, putting furniture together, putting up curtains and other stuff, and then sorting through all the clothes and baby bits I have (and buying anything I haven't been given!). Oh and I need to get a carpet fitted as well, before we get any of the furniture!

sabinar · 23/11/2007 10:49

eh. I'm listening to DH on the phone organising Friday afternoon beers with friends and feeling v jealous. I remember Friday afternoon beers... they were fun

I have a suspicion that my LO is also heading south... feeling some weirder movements down that way and - can it be true! - a little more space at the top. Although last night it crossed my mind that perhaps he hasn't moved down but has flipped into breech.... fingers crossed that's not right! I want him to continue his excellent head down and body to the right position that he's been holding for a couple of weeks now!

Amani - thanks, yes, ankle is taking a stupid amount of time to heal, it's driving me berko. Think it might be on the mend now though, thank goodness.

susiemj · 23/11/2007 11:04

Hi Sabinar - at my MW appointment yesterday Iasked if baby would stay in position now (wishful thinking as she was perfect!). She said it would move loads. We're due within a couple of days of each other, so I wouldn't worry even if beanie is breech ATM.
