You can probably wait and see if you have a sicky baby. Unless you've bought a mega expensive mattress, then I'd defo get one because £10 for a mattress protector makes sense. If you can replace the mattress for £20-30 if it gets really manky, then it's probably fine to take the gamble.

Inmypjsagain · 09/04/2021 17:58

@LottSE20 lovely scan! Re midwives, really hard to get through to mine. Last time I ring three times and a vm each time (this is only once per day)- so I called Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and got a reply on Thursday. I’m not sure about triage, we have a maternity helpline- unsure if that’s the same thing!

@lucyrp my appointment was booked by the midwife at my 16 week appointment. That elastic band feeling sounds weird?! Hope it feels better now!

@wimbler I find it so weird you have less appointments because it’s number 2- so they just assume you know what you’re doing second time around? Having said that I have no idea how many appointments you’re meant to have, my midwife gave me a schedule but then said to me because of covid I’ll have 3 less appointments at the end cos they amalgamate them... so if you have less plus a reduced schedule because of covid, surely you barely seen anyone?!

I didn’t even think about a mattress protector for a pram 😂 my shopping list is getting excessive here!

LottSE20 · 09/04/2021 18:24

Thanks all re midwives, sounds like it really varies based on the area.

@lucyrp have you had any issues since? I quite often get a sharp muscle pain when I get out of bed (or when I sneeze!). Hope it’s feeling better.

I took the plunge and bought a pram - it’s nearly new but the bassinet has been used lightly. Do you think I ought to buy a replacement mattress for it?

lucyrp · 09/04/2021 19:07

@Inmypjsagain I'm not sure what will happen with mine! Yes fine now thanks!

@LottSE20 yes if I stretch too much I get it too, so weird. Completely up to you on the pram mattress, a lot of babies don't really spend a lot of time in their carry cot parts of the pram so you should be fine unless you want to of course ☺️ you can pop Moses basket sheets on the matress !

Whatshouldbemyusername · 09/04/2021 20:14

Hi just marking my space. Didn't even know we had a new thread. Hope all mummas and their little ones are well xx

We didn't replace the one we got.
Whatshouldbemyusername · 10/04/2021 11:03

Hello ladies. 20 week scan last week. Baby is doing fine. This is the scan. I didn't find out gender although the sonographer slipped and said "she" twice 🙄🙄🙄🙄. After that she kept emphasising "baby!" Everytime she mentioned baby.

I obviously didn't want to know sex. Either way am thrilled it's a girl if it is as sonographer recovered from her slip up.

Do we think it's a girl based on the scan? X

Aug 2021 - half way there!
Kiki275 · 10/04/2021 11:09

@Whatshouldbemyusername even if the sonographer did slip up, there are many cases where they've deliberately looked and still got it wrong. Potentially if they've scanned other women prior to you who have been having girls it could be a bit of a habit also rather than a deliberate slip.x

LaceyMermaid · 10/04/2021 11:25

@Whatshouldbemyusername I wouldn’t worry, mine also said she this week (and I had private scan that said girl) bit when I asked her to confirm sex she said she couldn’t be sure as baby wasn’t in a good position! So I think sometimes they just accidentally say it whiteout it actually being based on your baby

HopefulB · 10/04/2021 11:39

Morning all! Hope everyone’s well, sorry to see on catching up that some still have nausea.

I think I’ve turned into a hobbit, I cannot cope without second breakfast!!

I also empathise with the weird twangy stretchy feeling on moving, mine is particularly when rolling over in bed or sitting up.

Welcome @Xaxnxdxrxexaxandrews87

So who has a scan next week? And almost as exciting - who has a haircut booked!!

LyraShaeLilly · 10/04/2021 13:06

I have my scan on Monday, hope baby is in the right place to tell gender (I cannot wait to find out) and also in right place to check all organs and brain as the NT couldn't be measured at 12 weeks.

I feel everything is all ok though as bump is growing and I can feel movement, but still have some anxiety!!

Inmypjsagain · 10/04/2021 13:26

@Xaxnxdxrxexaxandrews87 welcome!! I’m team blue too, but my first!!! Have just started looking at clothes and 😍

@Whatshouldbemyusername my sonographer at private scan and 20 week scan referred to baby as she the whole way through the scan, told me it’s a boy and kept saying she! So I wonder if they choose one gender and stick with it? I’m not great with skull theory but @PurplePansy05 seems pretty good!

@biscuitcat was it you up thread saying the movements made you feel sick? Du mean they kick in places to make you feel sick or you didn’t like the feeling? I hope I’m not flamed for this but Im not a fan of the feel of movements- I find it very odd, a bit uncomfortable and I’m always having to shift positions to make it feel less weird 🙈🙈🙈

I had a great lie in today and already feel I could go back to bed!!

Xaxnxdxrxexaxandrews87 · 10/04/2021 13:34

@Inmypjsagain aww the first is always so special, hope your pregnancy is going well so far!
I love having boys they are so affectionate & caring xXx

PurplePansy05 · 10/04/2021 13:42

You know, I've always been rubbish with these guesses and couldn't see anything on anyone's scan at all, but somehow I've clicked in this pregnancy lol 😂 Maybe because I had extra scans and I've learned through watching DS.

I've had a bitch of a week. In short, our builder has suspected cancer, can't do our renovation. He had an emergency surgery on the day he was due to start. We spoke to him after and he us genuinely very unwell. Didn't want to leave us in the shit and he's hoping he will be better next month, but he's waiting for a biopsy and if this shows the big C then of course that's not happening. In any event, once we talked through what the doctors told him I think in reality he won't get better for 3-6 months at best. They told him a month in hospital and then 2 more surgeries but no timeframe for it, so he will be weak throughout.

So we (as in I, cause DH has not been leading on this and appears rather useless) are desperately looking for someone to at least part finish the job. We have half of the house stripped bare, read it as bare walls, floors, no heating - it's ready to start the works. We are squished in a tiny bedroom full of stuff and working from the lounge. I've cried so much that I can't even think straight anymore, I'm exhausted. Everyone so far is booked up till 2022.

So we are extremely unlucky and truly fucked now. Don't even know what else to say tbh. I'm already a shit mother for even considering bringing DS into this unfit shithole 😔😭 xx

Daffodil21 · 10/04/2021 13:47

@PurplePansy05 you are not a shit mother! There's no way you could have anticipated this!

I'm not really sure what to suggest. Have you posted on you local fb page for recommendations/availability?

Brew and Cake for you x

Whatshouldbemyusername · 10/04/2021 13:55

@Kiki275 @LaceyMermaid @Inmypjsagain I suppose so.

So to be honest what happened is she took me in did the scan but couldn't see baby's heart as baby's position - so she did the rest of it. Sent me for a 30 min walk. Brought me back and did the remaining scan (in between she didn't have anyone in) and then when I came back in she said "oooh she's still very stubborn and not letting us look at her heart". Then she started putting extra emphasis on baby! But anyways like you all said it could be either and am happy with any 😁

@PurplePansy05 am sorry babe but like @Daffodil21said you weren't to know. Don't stress. You're gonna be an incredible mum.

Can I ask if there's any mums in NW London?x

lucyrp · 10/04/2021 16:14

@Whatshouldbemyusername at my 12 weeks the sonographer kept calling the baby he but she said she called all of the babies he because they're all awkward 🤣 so it might just be that sonographers thing

biscuitcat · 10/04/2021 17:44

@Inmypjsagain when I first felt the movements I think it was how they felt rather than location which made me feel nauseous - like a little fish swimming low down in my tummy. I'd agree with you though, I'm not certain I like the feeling! Sometimes I do but if baby is moving loads and I'm trying to focus or sleep I find it really distracting 😩

@PurplePansy05 oh love that sounds so stressful! You're not a dreadful mum at all - nothing like that could be predicted, and the whole reason you're in the situation is to create a lovely place to live for your son ❤️ I hope you can find someone to get you to a liveable situation, and sending good thoughts your way xx

HopefulB · 10/04/2021 17:53

Oh @PurplePansy05, I really feel for you! I find renovations so frustrating (this will be the 4th kitchen I’ve installed in a house) and they always take longer than planned, cost more and have unforeseen event- but your situation is really difficult.

Baby only really needs love and food, I’ve had friends have newborns without a functioning heating system & whilst there may have been the odd raised eye brow from the health visitor, they managed. Baby’s going to be focussed on mum, not a perfect nursery.

I’m really going to be pushing it for new bathroom and kitchen - the earliest the bathroom fitters can start is 19th July!

I really admire you ladies for taking on these projects, it's not something I could do when pregnant or not.

We bought a new build as we wanted easy, and have bought stickers for babies room instead of painting as we wanted easy again.

You will have lovely homes for your babies after this and it will be worth it!!

K2a0t1i5e · 10/04/2021 20:28

Just wondering if anyone has had Covid whilst pregnant and if you had a check up with a midwife or doctor after your isolation? I'm really worried about how much fatigue I'm experiencing and if this is effecting the baby. Xx

LyraShaeLilly · 10/04/2021 20:46

@K2a0t1i5e

Have you tested positive at all?

Have you had your iron checked, I think either way it's definitely something to discuss with MW?

K2a0t1i5e · 10/04/2021 20:59

@LyraShaeLilly Yes I tested positive and I'm on day 12 now and feeling so so drained and tired spoke to doctor during illness as I've got sore sinuses and headaches and didn't know what I could take. She just asked if I'd informed my midwife, which I have but nothings been said since I'm usually fit and healthy. But this is something else tiredness on another level.
