When do they usually test your iron as they haven't done so yet? Xx

LyraShaeLilly · 10/04/2021 22:12

@K2a0t1i5e

When you have bloods done at booking one of the things they test for is iron levels and haemoglobin levels. It's done again at about 25 weeks I think.

Sounds like your tiredness is more to do with the covid but still may be worth getting checked as it certainly won't help.

I really hope you feel better soon xx

HopefulB · 11/04/2021 07:11

@K2a0t1i5e definitely get in touch with your midwife. COVID infection changes your blood clotting risk score, so that should be reviewed incase you need treatment to prevent a clot. There is also guidance on additional scans for women who contract covid in pregnancy.

For many, the fatigue is the most difficult bit to manage, really give yourself time to rest up and recover now. One of my fears is ending up with long covid and not having enough energy for when baby arrives as symptoms seem to last 3-6months. It’s also such a new thing to manage. Recent research has suggested that up to 30% of people who have infection may end up with mental health problems after, so don’t be afraid to talk to others about how you are feeling. If the worst happens there are ‘long covid’ support groups being established.

@HopefulB Thank you so much for your advice I will get in touch. I'm exactly same Im so worried about how long I will feel like this and I just want to do what I can to get back to feeling normal to enjoy my pregnancy. Thank you again I wasn't due to see a midwife for another 7 weeks so at least it will put my mind at ease xx

K2a0t1i5e · 11/04/2021 07:20

Thank you @LyraShaeLilly too. I will ask for my bloods to be done as they haven't been done since 8 weeks xx

PurplePansy05 · 11/04/2021 08:30

@K2a0t1i5e I would also say check the clinical guidelines re your further care. I have pregnant friends locally who following the infection have been moved to consultant led care and had additional monitoring. They don't have any long standing issues as far as they know, but it was done as a precaution. NB I am under NHS Wales. I hope you feel better soon, this must be very stressful for you. xx

Thanks ladies. Still no progress, although we found someone who might take this on and waiting for his quote. I am prepared to fall off my chair now, it'll probably be higher and we won't be able to do what we wanted but I guess I am slowly accepting we are in the shit and at least have to have livable bedrooms where DS can stay with us. I am sort of trying to push this out of my mind because it's really bringing me down. I've definitely underestimated how strong my nesting instinct is going to be, honestly I like things prepped, but I don't even recognise myself now. It's like the end of the world. Plus I'm actually enjoying cleaning etc., I'm a changed woman. It's crazy what the hormones can do to you. Anyway I am trying to shuft the burden on DH now, I will probably end up regretting this, but I just can't sort it all out on my own right now. xx

HopefulB · 11/04/2021 10:32

@PurplePansy05, on the plus side, maybe it’s good prep for the baby?! So many friends have said you just have to run with not being in control with a little one!

I’m busy working my way through the quote we have, drawing my - I will not compromise if this, and the can we go cheaper on this..... The Kitchen is almost there, but I asked for Bathroom & Showeroom to come in at ~£20k and they’ve pushed up to £27, alongside the fact that actually although the layout is good, fixtures and fittings are definitely not my style - probably as they were waiting for me to go and look at things in the showroom yesterday.

PurplePansy05 · 11/04/2021 10:40

@HopefulB That's rather pricey! Sounds like you might be having the same issue as we have had, ie increased prices of materials. Having said that, look at the breakdown, they often make assumptions that you want certain features that you might not need, some things can be kept potentially (eg door frames - we had them in the quote and never said we needed new ones) etc. Once we've stripped ours of those extra bits it turned out to be better. Although I'm not kidding myself, we are unfortunately doing it at the most expensive time which I admittedly haven't fully considered - pandemic, Brexit and too many keen lockdown DIYers myself included. But it is what it is.

I think you're right and I had the same thought this morning, it's a lesson in preparation to parenthood. I think a bitter pill for me to swallow is that some of it might have to happen during my maternity and I know a lot of people say it's a good time, you are at home and ready to supervise etc. But selfishly I am crying inside as it's so not what I wanted and things weren't supposed to go this way. I think once, in time, I will get over this, I will start feeling less shit about this rubbish situation. xx

HopefulB · 11/04/2021 10:47

@PurplePansy05 that’s what I thought!! Previously OH has ( with lots of cursing) fitted our bathrooms and we’ve just paid for a tiler. In fact in the very first one I did when I was just out of uni I had an avocado suit and remember my brother using his left over bathroom laminate to panel the side of it & I laid new vinyl myself! I got a shock when a saw the house for sale nearly 8yeats later and my DIY was going strong!

OH this time is basically in the - our savings are depreciating in the bank spend whatever you want on the house as you’re going to be there a lot - mindset at the moment!!

For those looking for bargains Aldi have a mum & baby promotion on. Just picked up an Izmi wrap for £15.

Thanks @HopefulB I read that just before I went into Aldi and managed to grab one :)

Hi, can anyone remind me of the FB group name please?x

Ava50x · 11/04/2021 13:21

@K2a0t1i5e

Just wondering if anyone has had Covid whilst pregnant and if you had a check up with a midwife or doctor after your isolation? I'm really worried about how much fatigue I'm experiencing and if this is effecting the baby. Xx
@K2a0t1i5e I had Covid at 8 weeks pregnant. I was really unwell and it took me 3 weeks to get out of bed... Currently 20 weeks and also suffering with extreme fatigue/exhaustion. I'm barely functioning. Putting in a load of laundry needs an hour of rest. Its crazy. Its just dawned on me that I might have long Covid. Midwife and GP not very concerned. Scans have been reassuring so hopefully all this not affecting baby. Good luck and take care- this really sucks!
Ghhh · 11/04/2021 15:43

Hi everyone I have my 20 week scan on Tuesday so I'll update everyone with what I'm having. Then hopefully in a few weeks I'll feel more movement for reassurance 🙏 😌 xx

PurplePansy05 · 11/04/2021 16:45

We just had a virtual appointment at John Lewis and I cannot recommend it highly enough! We've talked through all things car seats, pushchairs and lighter buggies. The nursery assistant was excellent, knowledge second to none. We're also now getting a 10 or 15% discount on baby stuff at JL and we can contact the assistant with any queries going forward. Absolutely superb. If you have any outstanding questions, I suggest you put a shortlist together of what you're interested in and book it, I hope all of their staff are so well trained! xx

biscuitcat · 11/04/2021 17:55

That's so good to know @PurplePansy05! We've got an appointment in person (I'm almost giddy with excitement at going to an actual shop and seeing an actual person 😂) at a local baby specialist in a couple of weeks, can't wait!

Thinking of prams - does anyone know a good size for the carrycot part? The one SIL has given us is about 30cm wide (a little less on the inside) and it looks so small - but does baby mind that?

On the loopy SIL front... we've now been told off for storing things she's given us in the attic 🙄 I'm assuming she was hoping we'd keep the house as a museum... this includes clothes for up to about age 5/6! We're totally ignoring and hoping she goes away with it

PurplePansy05 · 11/04/2021 18:00

@biscuitcat Is she going through a tough time by any chance, your SIL?? xx

PurplePansy05 · 11/04/2021 18:02

Also, sale alert - Silver Cross has quite a decent sale on, lighter buggies are £50-£75 off if anyone is interested xx

biscuitcat · 11/04/2021 18:27

@PurplePansy05 she has a very stressful job (I don't totally understand it but it's either commission based or she has to bring in a certain amount of business), which I don't think she massively enjoys, and they have a lot of financial outgoings, which I think must be having an impact. But I think a large part of it is that DH and I are typically quite easy going and don't push back on ridiculous demands, which we're doing now because having a baby is such a new/big/different situation for us and that probably feels quite uncomfortable for her - I'm hoping that when the baby arrives, things settle, and there are fewer unknowns for her it might get a bit easier

LyraShaeLilly · 11/04/2021 19:01

@Ghhh

Good luck with scan,

mine is tomorrow and I'm soooo excited to see if it's a blue or pink heart I'll be adding to the list!!

BertieBotts · 11/04/2021 19:31

Just jumping on to share this about the new Maxi Cosi Pebble 360 seat - looks worth a watch as it's a full demo. Sound kicks in at about 6 mins - not sure what happened before then.

lucyrp · 11/04/2021 20:31

@BertieBotts looks great doesn't it ! £400 though!😱

Smallbean27 · 11/04/2021 20:59

Also, aldi are selling next to me crib for £72. It has good reviews to.

Think it's about normal width. They really don't use the carrycot part for very long. But tiny babies like to feel enclosed and cosy anyway :)
BertieBotts · 11/04/2021 22:20

Lucy yep. But that's the same price as many of the other high end ones with a modular base. I do think the modular bases are way overpriced. Plus it's RRP - it may come down once it's not brand new any more.
