How quickly do you get the results from the NHS blood screening test? As I'm not sure I would want to announce pregnancy until I've had the all clear from both the 12 weeks scan AND the blood screening test.

vitaminb33 · 15/03/2021 12:02

I just had a quick look into the harmony test accuracy (I study statistics so I thought the 99% claim was interesting) - I think they are pretty accurate but the 99% claim is a little misleading, so the NHS NIPT test and the private test are likely similar

Congrats @Strawberry08 😊 so glad it all went well!

Jealous of those with their 12 week scan appointments, I’m 10 weeks today and still waiting on mine😔 hoping it comes today or tomorrow and if not I’ll give them a ring. I only got 5 days notice last time for the one when I had my MMC, but my dates were crazy due to irregular cycles so I think they just had a short turnaround with me in booking for what they thought was my 12 weeks (I was actually only 9).
Just really want it through so I have something in mind to work towards. I’m also only working the day I turn 12 weeks and then off the rest of the week so really really hoping my appointment is that week so I can keep it quiet with work 🤞🏻

MrsTD88 · 15/03/2021 12:10

@HereWeGooo from what I remember in my with my daughter (and this may vary by Trust), if you have a high chance result you will be contacted within 3 days and if not you should receive a letter within 2 weeks.

MrsTD88 · 15/03/2021 12:14

@vitaminb33 that's very interesting thanks for breaking it down like that. I know the NHS screening booklet I have reiterates that the test may not show as high risk even if baby does have one of the conditions they look for. I didn't have the combined screening last time as my scan was too late so I only had the 2nd trimester blood test for Downs which is less accurate but I was only 26 then and just so relieved to get through the first trimester after two miscarriages. I am a lot more anxious this time as I am 32 now and had more losses.

HereWeGoooo · 15/03/2021 12:25

Thanks @MrsTD88 I had just assumed you're sent off on your way after your 12 week scan with all the info you needed and the ability to start telling people. Not sure I will announce now until I get the all clear of this screening test...
I'm in Scotland too - we are quite lucky as you just phone up when you find out you're pregnant and are given your 9 week and 12 week appointments there and then to put in the diary.

HereWeGoooo · 15/03/2021 12:27

*10 week and 12 week appointments I mean

Pancakes7 · 15/03/2021 12:34

@HereWeGoooo @MrsTD88 Yes same here. I think all nhs is contacted in 2-3 days if high risk. Otherwise a letter will come. Mine came that within the week I think last time with my son. I would wait to announce after the letter arrives.

@PumpkinEverything That's annoying you've not had your scan through yet. They must be really busy. I was surprised to get mine today as I only spoke to my midwife Thursday evening.

@MrsTD88 no problem! Yes false negatives are definitely possible too, for some reason my worry was always about false positives 😅 I haven't decided yet for this pregnancy, after my miscarriage I'm slightly more inclined to get the test but it'll still probably be not great for my stress levels.

Well, 6 weeks 1 day today and the nausea is increasing. Not finding it as reassuring as I'd hoped but there you go - none of it's really rational is it 🤦‍♀️

@HereWeGooo I've been quite lucky too, got my booking appointment no bother. I'm on the cusp of two counties so the midwife team in my trust are taking care of me but I chose to give birth in the nearest hospital which is in a different trust but so much closer to home (10 minutes down the motorway). My midwife had to send an email to that hospital requesting my scan and I got my scan letter in the post a few days after my booking appointment.

I think we will tell close family after the scan if the NT measurement is okay and then "announce" properly once we get the combined screening results. I'm bursting to tell family and it is getting hard to hide, I'm over 12 weeks now and seem to have popped!

@Pancakes7 ah that's good it is still the same length of time to be contacted with high risk results.

@vitaminb33 it is such a personal choice isn't it. I didn't fully appreciate the gravity of it the first time around.

Oh no hope the nausea passes soon!

marplemead · 15/03/2021 14:18

@PumpkinEverything I hope you get your scan appointment through soon.

Is anyone on anti-sickness meds? I was hoping to avoid them this time, as it's more nausea than actual vomiting. Consultant suggested that I should take them before the sickness gets worse, but I don't want to be taking more drugs on top of the progesterone and the high dose folic acid. Am I being silly?

Smurf123 · 15/03/2021 14:28

@marplemead my consultant said she would only recommend anti-sickness tablets in case of actually vomiting several times a day and that many of the anti sickness tabs can actually increase the nausea.
I felt constantly nauseous for first 14 weeks or so but was only being sick maybe once a day so didn't take any.
I stuck with just the high dose folic acid, vitamin d and aspirin.

marplemead · 15/03/2021 15:03

Thanks @Smurf123, that's really helpful. My consultant said taking it early means I may not end up with the vomiting, but definitely don't want to make the nausea worse! I'm going to wait and see. My GP is a bit anti the meds and said she would rather sign me off work for a few weeks than prescribe them.

smarty4 · 15/03/2021 15:12

Glad the scan went well @Strawberry08

I have my dating scan on 7 April (I'll be 13 weeks +5) so cutting it close to 14 weeks but hopefully ok. I think I'll look at harmony. Is there a time frame that can be done within?

JRH4622 · 15/03/2021 16:06

@Pancakes7 sounds like you got spoilt! I love bath bombs!

JRH4622 · 15/03/2021 16:15

@Firevie we are having the IONA test, its done privately but it is the one my genetic counsellor recommends - although I think it is similar to the harmony test, blood test, baby DNA in our blood etc.
We had a Trisomy 13 MC last time so its a must for us!

PumpkinEverything · 15/03/2021 16:51

Is 10 weeks too early to have baby brain 😳 my husband has just noticed I left the gas on on the hob after making my lunch at 1 😂🙈 he said there was just a blue flame coming out when he went over 🤦‍♀️

HereWeGoooo · 15/03/2021 17:00

I think it might be @PumpkinEverything.. I bought an anniversary card for my boyfriend with WIFE on the front, and didnt even pick up an envelope either... everything is a struggle at the moment haha

Pancakes7 · 15/03/2021 17:34

@PumpkinEverything & @HereWeGoooo I'm the same! I've done so many silly things lately!! Just like putting away things in the fridge when I'm still using them so absent minded

OP posts:
Greenrubber · 15/03/2021 17:44

The harmony test is 99.9% accurate and apparently the amniocentesis is also 99.9% accurate which I actually thought was 100% but it's not.
I'm waiting on my results to come back from my harmony test this week

PumpkinEverything · 15/03/2021 17:57

Hahaha @HereWeGoooo woops! Did you notice before you gave him it?
@Pancakes7 I keep putting things away in the wrong drawers as well 😂

Bellabubble · 15/03/2021 18:29

My email atopped sending me the mumsnet notifications! So I just caught up - congratulations on your scan @Strawberry08

I can’t remember who asked but I have my dating scan next Mon (22nd) when I’ll be about 13+1 and I have also gone for the combined screening. The lady at my private scan said they take the nuchal fold measurement combined aith your blood tests to get a number. Although she couldn’t do my bloods or help in that way - she gave me my nuchal fold measurement bless her. Does the harmony one have to reveal gender? I’m going to need all the help I can get to push the baby out when the time comes so have decided to wait until d-day lol!

PumpkinEverything · 15/03/2021 18:39

My email is doing the same @Bellabubble it stopped around 2 weeks ago and then was working again for a bit last week, and now it’s back to not working again 🤦‍♀️

Greenrubber · 15/03/2021 19:41

@Bellabubble
It does the gender but you can ask not to have it done
