Hello all - new thread here!

A chiropractor helps a lot with normal pregnancy aches and pains, IME.

Mollyfloss · 13/11/2007 12:26

Hi, I'm back again. Sorry for not being very consistent. I think I might be starting to get some FM but am not sure. It's fairly low and feels light, almost like a bubble but slightly more solid than a bubble and not wind... does that sound familiar to anyone? It's so hard to know when it's the first time. Where and what position is the baby generally in at this stage? Anyone know?

Denny185 · 13/11/2007 12:33

Bunyanvillas - I have a long mat pillow (also bends in the middle v easily and can double up as BF pillow) I got it 6 years ago when preg with DD and have only slept without it if abroad and cant take it - sooo comfy.

There was a big debate last fri/sat re the slings and peachy provided some fab pics for us to see (thanks peachy

Sleeping during the day - I am quite selfish and like a break during the day so both of mine have gone to their rooms for days time sleeps - also found they slept longer that way. I am hoping theis one will do the same and tie in with DS sleep patterns - normally 3 hours during the day. Not that Im asking a lot!!!

Ellieg - there are a few diff support belts on the market that can help whilst walking (generally crap to sit down in though)they just strap your stretchy pelvis together, 2 sites that spring to mind are physiomed and fizziostuff (fairly sure they are both .co.uk addresses). You may find cheaper on e-bay though, the deeper ones tend to be for if you have more back ache, whereas the strap type ones are better for pubic symphasis or sacroiliac dysfunction as you can get them a lot tighter. (If you want to test out first of all to see if they will work grab a leather belt fron DH/DP and place it kind of hipster level or just slightly lower, quite tight and go for a wander - if that is no help the support belts wont work)

Phew Im knackered afer that! Time for food

VictorianSqualor · 13/11/2007 12:37

Hmmm these pains, I have had for the last 3/4 days a pain where my left leg meets my body, kind of like it needs to 'click' does anyone know if thats normal??

PippiCalzelunghe · 13/11/2007 12:56

hello, sorry to have disappeared for a long long while. can I just ask you... what have you had done up to now in terms of scans, blood tests, general checks?

ah, I've started feeling my LO moving a good two weeks ago.

VictorianSqualor · 13/11/2007 13:05

Pippi, I have had my first scan, one set of bloods and one appointmewnt at the consultants.
I have my second scan next friday.

EllieG · 13/11/2007 13:08

Thanks for advice - I was thinking I might try an osteopath if doesn't improve, as I picked up a leaflet for it at the GP when there. GP said not to worry, was very common to get all these aches and pains though. I forget how much change is happening in the body to accomodate baby and get ready for birth, and am suprised when can't do as much as I used to!

PippiCalzelunghe · 13/11/2007 13:19

VS I'll have first bloodtest done tomorrow. a bit late don't you think? scan in two weeks time. They're right on track with the scan but not for everything else. when are you due?

lemonaid · 13/11/2007 13:19

I am due either April 4th (if you put LMP date into one of those wheely things) or April 1st (if you put same LMP date into the maternity department's computer).

So far i have had

  • booking-in appointment with midwife (included taking blood)
  • nuchal scan
  • blood test results back in the post

Next week I have an anomaly scan

Mid-December I have 24-week appointment (with the consultant so we can discuss VBAC)

Early January I have 28-week appointment with the midwife.

PippiCalzelunghe · 13/11/2007 13:21

lemonaid may I ask, are you over 35? was the nuchal scan done free of charge?
i feel I've been left to fence for myself. I am going to italy next week and have everything checked properly. i am not worried but just annoyed really.

Elfsmummy · 13/11/2007 13:21

Hello all,

So much to catch up on! Over the past 24 hours I have developed a bump - I literally went from a flat tummy (well almost!!) to looking about 7 months pregnant in the course of a day - DH couldn't believe it when he got home from work! Sadly - with it - came the heartburn! Went on an emergency gaviscon mission last night!

When my DD was born we were in a rented house and she didn't have a room so she had her cot in the corner of our bedroom. She went in there for all naps and at night from day 1. (She looked tiny!) This time I'll have a crib in our room for overnight but all day time sleep will be in its cot in its own room I think. (although I know that this is not what is advised by FSIDs) I think that its important for my DD to have some time with me to herself and I'm planning for that to be during the baby's naps (Ha ha ha ha!)

As for slings I'm plannning on a purchase of the close baby carrier.

Take care everybody

Peachy · 13/11/2007 13:24

VS- clicking can be a sign of SPD, warrants a check with Physio ime. what you describe mirrors what i am experiencing certainly.

Sling pics- wasn't me, someone else must have been acting as Picture Angel!

Scans etc- have ahd one, and one MW appt. No blood tests due to choice (bar the routines iron etc- which the buggers lost anyway LOL)

next scan in - erm- 1 hour and 1 minute LOL!

Then next MW appt next week, after which monthly until 34 weeks unless need mroe for health reasons.

VictorianSqualor · 13/11/2007 13:25

Pippi, I had my bloods done at my booking in appointment, havent had any other blood taken since.
I would have thought they would have done it at your first appointment, but maybe it is different at different practices, have they tested your urine?
Lemonaid, I too have a 24wk appointment, with the consultant who wants to do another scan, something to do with arteries?? Apparently they can check if you are likely to suffer from eclampsia with these new tests, I have no idea!
I then have a scan at 30/36 weeks too because of my VBAC, to check for size!

Elfsmummy · 13/11/2007 13:26

PippiCalzelunghe is this your first baby? The appointments vary depending upon if its your first or second here.

I've had my booking appointment, a 12 week scan and a 16 week appointment with my midwife (declined the triple test.)

I've got my 20 week scan on 26th Nov (when I'll be 21 weeks!) and I don't have an appointment to see anyone until 28 weeks unless there are any problems in the meantime.

With my first the appointments were more often but TBH I prefer it this way!

Denny185 · 13/11/2007 13:32

Victorian squalor - yours sound more pubic symphasis in origin, normal advice I would give - avoid increased weight bearing on one leg, try and avoid one sided activities, try and keep knees together with increased stress, ie getting in and out of the car, express slightly more care with things like getting out of bed - roll on your side first and push up onto your elbow etc. The belts can be helpful if gets really bad, if your symptoms persist its worth asking GP/midwife to refer you on for physio or osteopath as there are plently of strengthening exs that you can do to help support the pelvis (even normal pelvic floor can be really helpful). Hopefully it will only last a few days -as the majority do - as the soft tissues all sort themselves out again they tend to calm down. In case your all wondering im a physio.

Checks so far :-

  • midwife, booking app, bloods for thalasemia and grouping
  • scan - 12 weeks
  • midwife - 14 weeks, check of baby and more bloods
  • midwife 17 weeks, check of baby

To come so far

  • 20 weeks - scan and consulatant app
  • 22 weeks - midwife
after that who knows, kind of seems like a lot compared to others.
Denny185 · 13/11/2007 13:33

Good luck with your scan peachy

VictorianSqualor · 13/11/2007 13:35

Thanks Denny, and Peachy, I'll see how it goes, if it carries on I'll give the midwife/gp a call.
And good luck Peachy.

Sheds75 · 13/11/2007 13:35

pippi this is my first and I've had my bloods done at my booking apt (about week 9) then a 12 wk scan followed by another 2 MW appts and tomorrow my 20wk Scan. Shouldn't worry, I think it is a postcode lottery for how many scans and appts you are given

lemonaid · 13/11/2007 13:37

Pippi - I am 35, but in my area everyone is offered a free NHS nuchal scan regardless of age -- I had one with DS as well, three years ago (at that point supposedly they were going to be rolled out nationally to all pregnant women of whatever age within the next year - ha!). Just another example of NHS randomness...

While I'm sure Peachy's DSs are all gorgeous, it was my DS in the sling/carrier photos (still up for a couple of days before I take them down).

Mollyfloss · 13/11/2007 13:54

I had a scan at week 8 (probably only because I had a miscarriage before and when I saw the Doctor she couldn't see the bean with her mini scan machine so then sent me off for a proper scan most likely to avoid worry which turned out fine)

Then at week 12, nuchal scan, check up and bloods

Week 16: quick check up with Doctor.

Next scan and check up with Doctor is next week. I'll be 19 weeks.

Mollyfloss · 13/11/2007 13:57

er em, sorry to be pushy, but regardig my question below about what I think may be fetal movements, does anyone think that's what they are or could it just be some other pregnancy related feeling?

PippiCalzelunghe · 13/11/2007 13:58

def a postcode lottery. well you all have done far more than me. no not first, I had everything done like you describe it first time in a different hospital.

I am 18 weeks now and had seen no one, except for quick scan, and had no urine, blood NOTHING!

I am well tbh. will tell midwife tomorrow. I went to GP last week to tell him I feel really weak and have been fainting. he did nothing.

VictorianSqualor · 13/11/2007 13:58

Sorry Mollyfloss!
Yes, it does sound like it can be fetal movements, at the moment baby is moving wildy all around your womb as there is a lot of space for it still, but generally below the belly button to just above the pubic bone.

PippiCalzelunghe · 13/11/2007 14:02

mollyfloss yes I think that's him/her swimming about. it really feels like little bubbles. it's great isn;t it?

Mollyfloss · 13/11/2007 14:08

yes! it's only a light little feeling for now but the poistion would make sense, just above the pubic bone! I first felt it last night. I've had all sorts of feelings in my belly (digestion, wind etc) but this was different. I suppose I won't feel it regularly for a while and it should get stronger with time?
