Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Denny185 · 06/11/2007 16:47

Hello and congrats to Bainmarie

EllieG - thanks for the new thread, cant believe how much everyone can talk on here, dont come on for a couple of days and theres pages to read through.

We hope to find out the sex in a couple of weeks, although wernt able to with the last 2 despite our eagerness.

Those bella bands sound like a good idea, i have 2 pairs of jeans that fit, one over bump which are great and one under bump which Im forever hoicking - is it just me that has probs with under bump trousers?

ToastAddict · 06/11/2007 16:57

Wow, you have all been busy today
Thanks Ellie for sorting the new thread, welcome bainmarie

We definitely want to find out at 20 week scan and what's more, I'm vaguely tempted by having one of those 3D/4D scans at 24/26ish weeks to have a really good look! So there really will be no "surprise" at the birth

Popped into Mothercare today and ended up asking a woman who was struggling with her buggy what she thought of it!! Felt like one of those people doing surveys on the high street, the number of questions I was asking. Unfortunately seem to have forgotten the name of it now....

No, hooray for google, it was a "Mutsy" - she preferred it over her sister's Quinny Buzz, very comfortable to use, only problem was that it was quite large and didn't fold down flat, she did seem to be struggling to get it into her car

So there you go, I know no shame now, I shall be asking complete strangers all manner of questions of the coming months!! When I start asking about nipple cream I know its time to confine myself to the house!

VictorianSqualor · 06/11/2007 18:53

Are me and redmonster the only ones not finding out????
I thought it would be more 50/50!
Welcome to the new girls

Bainmarie · 06/11/2007 20:05

(waves back)
I am also planning not to find out! Had to go earlier, dd saw me on computer and seems to think that means she can go on the cbeebies website...

scampmum · 06/11/2007 20:47

Not finding out! DH wants to but I think I get power of veto.

My DD pointed at TV when I was having a sneak at Hollyoaks earlier, shook her head and said 'Beebies' and tried to change the channel. Good old Tombliboos were drinking Pinky Ponk juice... hmm.

gemprincess · 06/11/2007 21:32

Hi everyone i was hoping i could join your thread. Im new to all this chatting on line and not that clued up on it. I am mum to 3 girls, aged 7, 3 and 15 months, now expecting baby on the 12 th april.Would be great to talk to other mums. Sorry need some practice...

Mollyfloss · 06/11/2007 22:09

Welcome Gemprincess. If it's chatting you like you've come to the right place!

Denny - I have ubder the bump jeans that I got in top shop and they drive me nuts to the point I don't want to wear them anymore. Maybe jeans are just not that comfortable anyway when pregnant. I heard rave reviews about Seven's maternity jeans. Anyone got a pair?

chipmonkey · 06/11/2007 22:50

Welcome gemprincess!
Can someone please add gemprincess to the list as I am utterly incapable due to crapness of mouse!

EllieG · 07/11/2007 08:31

Mornin' all -
hello to bainmarie and gemprincess! Welcome to the thread - is nice place for avoiding work

I want one of those band thingys - where do I get one? My normal trousers are too tight and my maternity ones fall down (though not for long I fear).

OP posts:
ToastAddict · 07/11/2007 09:29

Morning all, welcome to gemprincess

OK, going to show my complete ignorance now, but I know that you wise and wonderful ladies can enlighten me!

Was having a look at buggies/prams/pushchairs last night, and cannot believe the price of them!!! Anyway, my stupid question is - if you get one of those ones with a detachable carrycot, can this be used as a moses basket? Or do you need both? Also, what's the difference between a crib and a cot?? Mothercare has sections on both, I thought they were the same thing? Confused.......

Soph73 · 07/11/2007 09:32

Morning all. Welcome gemprincess. This is a great place to chat but I have to run round like a mad thing last thing of an afternoon doing all the work I should have done during the day Did I tell you all have got my 3D scan booked for 29th Nov - sooooo excited

ToastAddict · 07/11/2007 09:33

By the way - tlsm is everything OK now?

lemonaid · 07/11/2007 09:33

Generally, what we call a cot Americans call a crib. I don't think there's much difference.

TBH I think you can easily get away with a sling/carrier for when baby is newborn and a relatively cheap buggy for when they are a bit older.

There is a thriving secondhand market in buggies, though, so worth checking that out.

ToastAddict · 07/11/2007 09:34

Oooh Soph, really jealous

You must let us know how it goes, I'm thinking of having one after Christmas.....

lemonaid · 07/11/2007 09:35

We're definitely going to have a 3D scan around 27 weeks or so (must get round to booking it) -- we had one with DS and don't want DC2 to develop a complex about being less important and wind up murdering us in our beds...

ToastAddict · 07/11/2007 09:36

Thanks lemonaid

That's a good point, I am really taken with the idea of a sling/carrier and it does seem a little mad spending sooo much money on a fancy pram type thing if they never use it..... decisions, decisions!!!

TLSM · 07/11/2007 10:11

Hi all and welcome to all the newbies

I got my heart monitor yesterday and me, my DH and Max all listerned to the babies heart and Maxies heart and daddy's heart! So i feel a lot happier now I also have a private scan booked for Saturday so will see my bud and find out if its a boy or girl which we are all really excited about!

paranoidmummy · 07/11/2007 10:21

hey everybody, thank you for all you get well messages. I feel i am on the mend today.

Ds went to bed at 430pm last night and slept right throught to 7 this morning. He's now back to his normal happy self. I was so proud of hime yest - he coped with his sickness a hell of a lot better than his mummy!

I am quite cross with my work tho as they are all angry at me for taking time off! If it wasn't for them making people come in when they are ill i would never have caught this in the first place!!!GGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

On subject of cribs - from my exp they are an alternative to moses baskets. newborns can use them and it mean there is more mobility than the moses cos they can be rocked. Ds hated his moses so going to try a crib tis tim around.

We are not finding out sex either. We can only do it privately here and me and dh have both agreed we want to wait. I have no pref at all - ds wants a brother but he will get used to it either way i'm sure!

Sheds75 · 07/11/2007 10:23

Morning All, Sooooooo much to catch up on, have been flat out with work for the last week, just managed to get up to date

Welcome all newbies

was very glad to hear that I'm not the only one having a sneaky glass of wine

PeachyCosmicExplosion · 07/11/2007 10:27

we have one of those small wooden cribs (babies r us are cheaper, at least they were when I bought a few weeks back). I like the rocking capability, and I cannot fit the cot in my room so need something smaller. Had Moses baskets in the past and woudn't again, one one occasion one on a stand toppled over as the cat knocked it accidentally, and if I palced it on the floor it would be too vulnerable to being fallen on etc by the boys. They didnt like the baskets either, but tbh we always ended up with the baby in our bed- not an option this time around as ds3 wouldnt necessarily register lying on top during the night should he come in, so we've decided the wooden crib is by far the safest.

smcg · 07/11/2007 10:40

Hi gemprincess

Paranoidmummy, that is very mean of your colleagues.

Ellie, lots of the online maternity shops do a bump band, eg.bumpto3.com; Isabella Oliver, topshop, or I've seen loads on eBay.

Molly, I have Citizens of Humanity jeans (same designers as Seven) ready for when I need them (I have my trousers held together with an elastic band today so that day might not be far off!), I've tried them on and stuck a cushion down the front ... they seem as if they'll stay up! I was told to go up two sizes from my normal size so they'll fit up until the end. We'll see! I have also heard good things about Paige maternity jeans.

Redmonster · 07/11/2007 11:16

I have a pair of the Citzens Jeans that I have been wearing since the 12 week mark. I absolutely love them. Not sure they are going to last to full term (as I bought my normal size) but they have seen me through the hardest period to shop for..ie. when you normal jeans won't do up and proper maternity wear is still swimming on you. I tried on a pair at the Gap last night and they seem like a good option when I get a bit larger. Also Zara jeans look like the might be a good option for full term as they have a mock waisband and then a massive over the bump band. Can you tell I think about jeans way too much...think I must have too much time on my hands .

PeachyCosmicExplosion · 07/11/2007 11:19

LOL at not wearing proper mat clothes yet- camera playing up so cant upload pic of my bump (fully dressed, dont worry ) to my profile yet but will try again later! I very definitely look pregnant now!

sagitta · 07/11/2007 11:27

Morning everyone. Weclome bainmarie and gemprincess. Glad paranoid mummmy and TLSM are feeling better.
I like your idea of a rocking crib, peachy. We have a moses basket, but its very baskety, and creaks horribly at the wrong moments. Especially when you trip over it. Was the crib expensive? HOw long can the baby stay in it for? This is definitely last dc, and I really don't want to spend much...
