Also is anyone else getting excited about the prospect of playing with your kids? I can't wait for this 😁 I'm still a big kid deep inside which I'll be very happy to rediscover...I've gone oh so serious in the last few years and I'd be quite happy to let loose and be an active participant in my son's childhood play...DH on the other hand has never lost any of his joyfulness and ability to have fun, I think he'll be fab at playing with him.

I'm now coming to the conclusion my Mum was ahead of the time when I was growing up, as all I remember is Lego, blocks, dinosaurs, a collection of rocks and lots of books...and any bob the builder type toys 🤣 My mum was never a believer that these toys were for boys. I secretly hope DS will be into them too and we can play together 🤣😁 xx

Thanks all - I'll update later. It's not until 8:40 and it's over an hours drive away. We usually have 8:20 apps and home late enough as it is then, so I'm tempted to have a little nap beforehand!

@Whatshouldbemyusername @PurplePansy05 we already have safari wallpaper in the spare room that will eventually (hopefully) be his room, so that will be staying - apparently we are also big kids 😂 wasn't really planning on changing or putting anything in there yet though as I'm not sure it'll be needed early on as he'll be in with us??

MrsB2019x · 11/03/2021 18:23

Thank you @ElonaWise! 🙌

@Whatshouldbemyusername We’ll probably end up having a beachy theme. We live in a seaside city and love all things beachy/nautical. We have nautical decor in our front room and we had a nautical themed wedding 🙈 might be a bit overkill but we love it!

@PurplePansy05 Same! I was always playing with my brother’s trains and my uncle’s wrestling figures. Still loved my Barbies though! Our girl will probably be going to rugby tots with her Daddy and he’s quite excited to take her!

MrsB2019x · 11/03/2021 18:25

Question re. movement - I know there isn’t a pattern in the early days but should I still be feeling her move every day? I’m only getting light flutterings/taps for now that only started a couple of days ago but I don’t think I’ve felt her today. If I have it’s been very subtle that I haven’t noticed!

lucyrp · 11/03/2021 18:37

@MrsB2019x the first week I was sure I felt them move every night in bed then the next week I rarely felt them at all. Think I'm getting used to the movement so don't notice it as much now. X

lucyrp · 11/03/2021 18:39

@Daffodil21 just wondering where will you keep all of their stuff if not in their nursery ? Just curious ! X

Dia12 · 11/03/2021 18:58

Did someone mention a giraffe!!!! I've got my eye on one too and have dreamed up a safari theme for our nursery! I'm desperate to be let loose.....but holding till I'm a little further along.

It's so exciting to hear you all talk about flutters and kicks. I'm 18+4 and haven't felt anything. Anyone else with an anterior placenta?

Daffodil21 · 11/03/2021 19:00

@lucyrp I think I'm underestimating how much stuff we'll need!! I had thought that the top two drawers of my chest of drawers would be for baby bits - nappies/wipes/clothes etc and then I was planning on putting a changing stand on top of the drawers. I can't think of anything else that would need to be in our room except the cot?! I am totally clueless!!!! The spare room has a king size bed in it, which if possible we do need to keep because we live so far away from family that they would need to stay when visiting, so I'm hoping to keep that in there for as long as possible. There's just about enough space to add a cot and something like a set of drawers if needed. We do have another spare room but it's not a double. I have no clue 😂

lucyrp · 11/03/2021 19:05

@Daffodil21 well someone else I know just kept their baby clothes in bags under neath their bed so you're okay I think! I will have a chest of drawers with vests and baby grows in the top drawer and the middle drawer as tops and bottom drawers as bottoms! Then il have the cot where I'll lie them when I'm upstairs doing bits and bobs and put them down for naps when their maybe 6 months. Will also have a wardrobe/bookcase to hang coats and outfits etc. Then underneath will have some nice baskets to have nappies in one, wipes in another and then the others for things like hats mittens etc. Then a couple of boxes on the other shelves for stuff they grow out of or haven't grown into yet! X

Whatshouldbemyusername · 11/03/2021 19:06

@PurplePansy05 @Daffodil21 yay to safari!!! I've seen so many cute things on Etsy too. It's all saved up in lists but am not buying anything at the moment till like trimester 3. I think. X

@MrsB2019x that sounds cool and perfect considering where you live plus the whole connection with your wedding x

@Dia12 I have an anterior placenta and only week 16+4 so looks like I'm not going to feel anything for a while too. When's your 20 week scan?x

BertieBotts · 11/03/2021 19:13

My nipples are so painful which makes feeding a teething toddler still somewhat awful Shock I have cut him right down to bedtime only, and since he dropped his nap he falls asleep within about 5-10 minutes so it's bearable.

Newborn clothes are teeny tiny so don't need a huge amount of storage space. They take up way much space before they are actually here as well because once the baby is here and puking everywhere, 2/3 to 3/4 of the clothes are always in the wash! You hardly have any in the drawers. So I just used these little plastic ikea storage boxes for them at first. I spent ages folding and organising them on maternity leave. (OMG. Look how adorable and brand new they were!!) The boxes are now used for toys because 2yo clothes are absolutely enormous compared the newborn ones and I'd fit about three t-shirts in one. But these boxes were perfect for just grabbing and moving around the house - changing table in bedroom, changing mat on the bed/sofa.

I am not feeling a huge amount of movement this time around. It's weird because last time I had an anterior placenta but he never stopped! This time my placenta is at the back/side and I get the occasional flutter or few kicks and then nothing - sometimes once a day, sometimes once every couple of days. I think that's totally normal pre 20 weeks.

lucyrp · 11/03/2021 19:16

@BertieBotts is that all the clothes you had ag one time ?😱 maybe I had too much stuff 😂 all 3 of my drawers were full of clothes and wouldn't be able to give one up for nappies or anything

BertieBotts · 11/03/2021 20:26

There was another box at the top left which was also full, and that was only the newborn size - I had loads more in 0-1 month and 0-3 months. But they only wear the newborn stuff for about 3 days (and I don't have massive babies) so I didn't go mad or get loads. The Aldi bag you can see at the top right of the picture was totally full of the 0-1 and 0-3 month stuff, I think.

Can't remember if I got more after this picture - possibly. I am not letting myself go through the tiny 0-6 month clothes until after the gender scan! I'll come back and let you know what I actually have! Although TBH I got rid of some of the plainer/more "boy" stuff that wasn't to my taste.

lucyrp · 11/03/2021 20:32

@BertieBotts I have so much stuff from last time as DS was a surprise too. I never got rid of anything but I also want to buy some stuff new for this one as it's OHs first but I do worry I have far too much. I have at least 3 huge laundry bags of baby clothes. I need to get rid of some I think !🙈

BertieBotts · 11/03/2021 20:50

Oh it's so easy to go overboard, the little clothes are so cute! And none of them cost very much individually and they don't take up much space... until you put them all together!

I was ruthless at getting rid of my non-favourite stuff purely to give me an excuse to buy more :o I wouldn't be able to justify buying more if I had enough that I could manage with, but that's just me - been through times when we didn't have much money and it sticks with you.

Daffodil21 · 11/03/2021 20:57

Scan was all ok, phew!

@lucyrp we'll just figure it out as we go I guess!!

Jessicapebbles · 11/03/2021 20:57

Hi Ladies!

If anyone needs a little laugh today...I woke up this morning to my 2 year old shouting CLOCK at the top of her voice, a new word she is very excited about...however she can’t yet pronounce her L’s so you can imagine the confusion on our faces when we heard her this morning 🤣🤣. Luckily she has home talk tomorrow!

I’ve not had chance to read all of your posts today but agree that you can totally go overboard buying clothes!! Our daughter had about 4 boxes full of just newborn and tiny baby clothes...I regretted that when it came to moving to the next size!

lucyrp · 11/03/2021 20:59

@BertieBotts can't say we have much money tbh but I'm terrible for getting myself further into debt or buying stuff with money I don't really have 🥴

Daffodil21 · 11/03/2021 21:06

@lucyrp you should have a look at the clothes in Asda. They're really well priced and super cute!! We'll have to be pretty careful when I'm on mat leave as well

lucyrp · 11/03/2021 21:08

@Daffodil21 yeah most of my baby clothes from DS were from Morrison's, sainsburys, asda and tesco! Such good quality and cheap!

Daffodil21 · 11/03/2021 21:14

@lucyrp everything was labelled as 'suitable for tumble drying' on the front as well so even better!!

BertieBotts · 11/03/2021 21:16

Found some pics from when I spent hours and hours laying out tiny little outfits :o and it looks like I had:

20x sleepsuits - though there are more I remember which aren't pictured. Also there were some that never got used because they were stupid over the head things.
6x short rompers (never worn - end of Aug was too cold)
3x long sleeve t-shirts - just about right
7x short sleeve t-shirts - probably too many (maybe would be OK if it was earlier in Aug) but they did get worn.
9x pairs trousers - these did get used, but prob didn't need so many.
3x shorts (!!!!!) Never ever used these once! Who puts shorts on a baby? If it was too warm for trousers I just used a vest or romper.
6x cardigans - way too many - 2 or 3 would have been fine.

No idea how many vests as I can't find a pic with them all and I remember buying more anyway. I had loads of long sleeved ones I didn't really use, though.

I mainly used the short sleeved vests and babygrows. If I happened to remember then I'd try and put a t-shirt and trousers on him in the daytime just so they got some wear, but TBH a sleepsuit also would have been fine. I just had some really adorable tops I wanted to use!

BertieBotts · 11/03/2021 21:18

If you have some old clothes but want to feel like it's something new, tie dying is a really fun project to do - I did some - just be careful to use colour catchers with them forever more because I never find the dye is very fast and they tend to dye other things in your wash otherwise.

Inmypjsagain · 11/03/2021 22:39

Hi all, bit late to the new thread!!

Hope everyone’s been well, lots of love to everyone feeling emotional and anxious. Assuming it’s normal, I’ve been feeling similar, suddenly panicking something will happen to DH, don’t know why!

This week my bump has popped which is nice but damn my pelvis/lower back! So much pain! And my boobs- my nipples are burning and the rest feels so heavy, like they’ve got so full that my skin can’t contain them and I worry they might burst. Honestly didn’t realise pregnancy was so painful 😕

For those talking about anterior placenta, I have one too and I’m sure I felt 2 kicks this week, I’m 18 and a half weeks, don’t know if that’s too early but certainly nothing regular. Assuming there’ll be no regularity for a few weeks yet, my scans is in 2 weeks so I’ll ask the sonographer then.
