Woken up with that deep hunger/ stomach ache we were describing. I am not hungry and don't want to eat but seems baby has other ideas 😴

@BertieBotts you sound so organised, I don't think I ever counted as such or followed a list I just went along and bought stuff that was cute 🙈 until obviously the next sizes when I was like right I need more short sleeved vests etc. I was thinking I never used long sleeve vests ever with DS but if I have a girl this time round I'm more likely to with cute leggings and a cardigan etc. Also I bought little t shirts and trousers that I barely used or started ro around the 3-6 mark then I found he looked too grown up so started putting him back in baby grows because he looked so cute and they're just so practical 🙈

Shannonttc · 12/03/2021 06:59

Hey everyone wondering if I could join? I’m expecting my 1st baby 31st august and would love to hear what everyone else is experiencing at this stage 🥰 xxx

MrsB2019x · 12/03/2021 07:48

Morning all! Happy Friday 🥳 this feels like it has been the longest week ever.

Ordered a pregnancy pillow last night, gone for a C shaped Joio Maman Bebe one as I didn’t want a full body length pillow. Counting down the days til it turns up! Slept with a pillow under my bump last night which seems to have helped the ache but woke up with the worst hip pain at 5am! Shows how used to sleeping on my front I am ☹️

Welcome and congratulations @Shannonttc ☺️

Whatshouldbemyusername · 12/03/2021 08:30

Morning ladies! This has been the longest week I agree.

Welcome @Shannonttc and congratulations 🎉

@MrsB2019x speaking of jojomamabebe I have a virtual appointment with them today and then I get 15% off maternity wear like bras and stuff.

Also have my telephone 16 week appointment in the morning and my private scan this evening. Can't wait to see bubba 🥰

Hope everyone is well and has a good day x

biscuitcat · 12/03/2021 09:12

Morning and happy Friday everyone! I'm on leave today so posting while still in bed - bliss 😌

@Shannonttc welcome and how exciting!

@Whatshouldbemyusername hope the scan goes well for you, it'll be lovely to see! Remind me, are you planning on finding out the sex?

For those of you in the know, I wonder if I could have some feedback if my plan about clothes is sensible? For the cute (more expensive!) outfits, I was planning on buying in maybe 0-3m so to get a bit more wear out of them. For newborn clothes, I was thinking of trying to hold off until nearer the due date as DH and I were both big babies (though I was 2 weeks overdue), and if ours is too I don't know how long they'll fit into newborn bits - so doing it later hopefully means I could exchange for a bigger size if needed?

wimbler · 12/03/2021 09:24

@biscuitcat I found that for the first month at least she lived in sleepsuits and vests underneath (December baby though). She got through at least 2 per day! I didn't bother with leggings or anything else until she was at least a month old. Now she's over two and lives almost exclusively in leggings/jeans and t-shirts and jumpers. I try to dress her in dresses/tights etc but it's not very practical when all we do at the moment is go to the park where she gets dirty or where I have to put a puddle suit and wellies over the top!

It's hard to know how big they're going to be and how long each outfit will last though. I did find clothes from m&s came up really big on my DD. she was wearing newborn until she was 1 month, 0-3 until close to 6 months and she's still in 12-18 months comfortably in their tops and she's 27 months! She's diddy though and was only 6lb 10 when born.

I will say for summer, cute rompers are the best - no need to worry about leg length!

MrsB2019x · 12/03/2021 10:13

@Whatshouldbemyusername That’s a good deal! Me and DH are with Lloyds and they are doing cash back with them at the moment. They have offered DH 10% and me only 5%? 🤷🏻‍♀️

@biscuitcat I’m going to skip newborn all together and we have just bought 0-1 month stuff instead, so then if it’s too big then it should only be a little bit baggy and if baby is bigger, she should still fit into them. For more expensive things I will buy 0-3 so she will fit in them for longer

lucyrp · 12/03/2021 10:14

Today's plan of action while my OH is doing a first aid course is to empty my chest of drawers in the nursery into laundry bags as I'm currently wearing about 3 outfits on repeat and then we can assemble the cot later as OH has been asking to do it since its been in the house 🤣🙈

Whatshouldbemyusername · 12/03/2021 10:38

@biscuitcat thank you x
I'm going to keep the gender a surprise ☺️ for baby number 1. In the future will find out when baby no 2 comes along in good time x

I had to change my appointment to tomorrow. Still waiting for my telephone appointment. Was for 9:10 am and it's 10:35 🤷🏽‍♀️

Apparently my cousin said for newborn babies just jump straight to 0-3 months instead of smaller clothes as they grow really quick and in like 2 weeks they would have to transition to 0-3 months. Still need to do my own research though ..

Am really trying to be a minimalistic mommy so don't want to buy too many clothes. It's going to be baby's first Diwali in November so I'm looking forward to getting cute tinie tiny Indian clothes for baby though! 🥰🥰x

MrsB2019x · 12/03/2021 10:42

@Whatshouldbemyusername Funnily enough I made a thread about it the other day and got a range of responses!

Whatshouldbemyusername · 12/03/2021 10:59

@MrsB2019x wow so much advice there. Thanks for sharing.

I took the plunge and joined peanut! (Am still debating whether to stay on) but there's tons of advice on that!!

Is anyone on it?x

Daffodil21 · 12/03/2021 11:33

@Whatshouldbemyusername yes I joined a couple of weeks ago too! I got talking to one woman a few miles away but she wasn't particular chatty and it fizzled out quickly. I wasn't sure why she joined and 'waved' at me if she wasn't interested in chatting but there we go! It took me a while to work out but I don't think you can chat to someone unless you both 'wave' to each other. I've had a few 'wave' matches since but I have to admit I haven't bothered starting a conversation with them yet since the first attempt was such a fail, and they haven't with me 🤷‍♀️ how are you getting on with it?

BertieBotts · 12/03/2021 12:20

@Whatshouldbemyusername I didn't know they made tiny Diwali clothes for babies - how cute!!

IME 0-3 months is a bit too big when they are first born. Up to 1 month should be fine, although not all shops in the UK seem to stock them, or the naming isn't very consistent. But 0-3 months drowns them for the first week or two unless you have a very big baby.

I found it a bit clearer in EU sizes - newborn is up to 50cm, up to one month is normally 56cm, 0-3 months is 62cm. The sizes are "up to". DS2 was born at 52cm and he fitted both Newborn and Up to 1 month. But 0-3 months was way too big and his arms and legs would get lost in them.

@biscuitcat I think your idea sounds good although I'd actually go for 3-6 month for outfits :) They tend to fit in that size a bit longer. But bear in mind it will be colder by then so go for clothing that would suit this current kind of weather/temperature. Also if you want to pre-wash things then you won't be able to take them back. But I never bothered personally.

@lucyrp Haha, I am the least organised person ever, but I get really anxious at the thought of things being wasted so I liked to buy in a range of sizes and I didn't want too much in any one size.

Dia12 · 12/03/2021 12:21

Oh I joined peanut for all of 2 days but it just reminded me too much of Twitter!!! Thought there might be a local group I could join but I didn't find any. So deleted the app! Perhaps I didn't give it enough of a chance.
I have however joined an NCT group and looking forward to that.

Good luck with your private scan tomorrow @Whatshouldbemyusername. My 20w scan is a week on Monday.

Hope you're tidying and cot assembly goes well @lucyrp. It's so exciting getting to the point of actually making a space for this little one outside of your belly!

Magik01 · 12/03/2021 12:38

Ladies I felt the baby kick yesterday for certain, my DH also manage to have a feel as well! I’m quite a tiny person so I suppose there isn’t much between the outside world and the baby!

I’ve also just had a phone appointment with a midwife this morning to discuss the birth- vbac vs ELCS. I cried on the phone. I’m really torn, I would love a natural birth but have been told because I’m consultant led water birth is a no, and I would be constantly monitored throughout with a drip in my hand just incase. But my EMCS last time was obviously really traumatic and the recovery was really difficult. But then the stats are 1 in 4 vbacs end in EMCS anyway. 😫 So I don’t know what to do! Also I’m concerned about having a toddler after a section as well!

wimbler · 12/03/2021 13:22

@Magik01I'm hoping for a vbac this time but really hoping I can convince them to sign me off for the birth centre. I'm doubtful but since my first was ELCS due to breech baby I'm hoping I might have a good case. I understand your concern though, I wouldn't like the idea of being constantly monitored either. . Could you see if a cannula is absolutely necessary? Surely they can be administered fairly quickly? There is a lot to be said for progression of labour whilst being confined to a bed and constantly monitored, I'm sure the rates of intervention are higher than if you were allowed intermittent monitoring. It's a tough one isn't it because you want a nice balance of what you want and what's safest. I hope you can find a balance you are happy with.

Shannonttc · 12/03/2021 13:28

I’m also consultant led does anyone know if it’s much difference when delivering? It’s my first so not really sure how much of an impact it has? 💕

Alittlexmasmagic · 12/03/2021 13:45

@Shannonttc depends on the reason you're being consultant led. It doesn't automatically mean you need a monitored birth.
I'm hoping for VBAC too. Preferably a nice chilled water birth. There is a pool on the delivery suite so not totally out of the question just yet. I haven't a snowballs chance of a MW led birth.
DS was an EMCS due to failure to progress but then I went on to have a natural birth after. I really just need a completely different experience this time.
That said I really don't want to go overdue and don't want inducing again.
I'll discuss with my consultant but my ideal birth is entirely in the hands of the baby gods x

Shannondd3108 · 12/03/2021 13:48

@Alittlexmasmagic I hope you get the birth you choose 🤞🏻 I’m consultant led because of my weight but since then I managed to get my weight below the bmi cut off point due to morning sickness so not sure if that’ll make a differnace as I’m sure as baby grows it’ll go back up 🤷🏼‍♀️ X

Shannondd3108 · 12/03/2021 13:49

Got an early gender scan on the 21st anyone else in this wait with me? It’s so exciting! 😍

Whatshouldbemyusername · 12/03/2021 13:52

@Daffodil21 @Dia12 jeez think I might have the shortest span on peanut. Lasted an hour couldn't cope! lol. Advice was good but was too much going on.

@Dia12 my private scan is today at 16+5. My 20 week is in April. All the best with yours my dear x

@BertieBotts Oh My God look how cute! Coz I'm not checking the gender here's baby Indian clothes for baby boy and baby girl 🥰🥰🥰🥰 I'm in love

@Shannondd3108 I'm not an expert but don't see why your weight would affect your chosen birth method too much. As long as yours and baby's stats are fine, then I can't see why you can't choose x

@Whatshouldbemyusername I wasn't interested in all the posts because I spend too much time on MN as it is! I was just hoping to connect with others as we moved 600 miles away just before lockdown started!

Those clothes are adorable!

DressyGerbera · 12/03/2021 14:06

hello All!! have been quiet, work's been busy and haven't posted in ages now!

Am now approaching 18 weeks. had a 16 week phone call appointment instead of face to face. started reading about pre -eclampsia and got nervous really - will future appointments test urine/blood? I've got a 20 week scan coming up and feel quite nervous. wondering if people got a private scan for the 20 week scan and if yes, did you do it before or after the NHS scan?

i think I also started feeling the baby kick yesterday but as i'm a FTM it's hard to tell really! wishing you all the best for your upcoming scans!

BertieBotts · 12/03/2021 14:09

@Whatshouldbemyusername OMG imagine them running around in those at like 1 year old as well :o

@Magik01 when you say you need a drip is this the actual drip, or just the canula part? I have a choice of 3 hospitals where I live, and if I give birth at the main city hospital, then I was told you have to have the canula in - it's just their policy. I was so anxious about this that I decided to deliver somewhere else last time, even though I really wanted to go to the main hospital. Then I had a GBS test late in pregnancy, it came back positive, so I had to have a canula anyway. And it was honestly no problem at all! I said I was anxious about needles and really dreading it and they were lovely and wrapped extra bandages around it so I couldn't see it. It wasn't connected to anything except for when they were giving me antibiotics, so I wasn't impaired for movement etc. It didn't hurt and I could barely feel it. I was so worried about it impairing my hand but it really didn't. I wish I hadn't been so worried about it and will defo deliver at the big hospital this time because I'm not bothered if I have that or not. Perhaps you can ask about the type of monitoring and see what they say about it. Maybe intermittent monitoring could be an option, for example?

@Shannondd3108 we should get to find out on the 18th! Yay!
