I have ordered nursery furniture as it was a 3 month lead time and we needed wardrobe and chest regardless of baby or not as its an empty room currently, I jave bought the snuz pod and will wait for 20 week scan and for shops to open to buy the pram as I want to see that and not but online, I just have a sling, bedding, clothing and pram to buy now!!

MrsB2019x · 15/03/2021 08:12

@LyraShaeLilly They didn’t tell me about mine either but when I was flicking through my notes I found a summary of my scan and it said there, maybe worth a look to see if yours does?

lucyrp · 15/03/2021 08:58

@BertieBotts its more him that's getting frustrated than me 🙈 I think he'll be okay once he's seen them again on the scan. I think we forget how hard it is for our OH to believe there's a baby in our belly when they don't feel any of it. Obviously he can see my bump but it doesn't necessarily mean all that much to them I guess ?

We have our cot and chest of drawers up in the nursery already and the cot has my isofix base in there for the car seat and a different coloured apron and hood for my old pram. Also have a bag of clothes that someone gave me. The other corner of the room however is full of my stuff from my drawers that I had to take down to put the cot up. Had a nightmare as we realised we didn't have all the parts needed to assemble and the woman I bought it off has disappeared off the face of the earth but found a lovely lady on Facebook who's supposedly sending me all the parts in the post so will see if they arrive ! If not will be a fixer upper job but I don't mind. I need to order a bookcase and some baskets from IKEA for the nursery which is going to be an open wardrobe type thing but not too worried about that for a while.

WatermelonKisses · 15/03/2021 10:00

@coffeeandrainbows

I haven't felt anything either. I thought I felt a massive kick a few weeks ago but I've had nothing since so it must have been something else. It's my second so I really thought I would have felt something by now!
I'm definitely feeling more pregnant though, my boobs have got way more sensitive in the last couple of weeks and I'm getting rounder all over so hope it's just a matter of time.

@purplepansy
I haven't bought a thing yet, waiting till after the 20 week scan which isn't until the first week of April. Sorry to hear you ended up in obs, glad baby is ok!

Is anyone not doing a nursery and feeling really guilty? I think that's partly why I haven't bought anything yet, last time I bought as I went along and could fill up the little wardrobe and drawers etc. This time I've got nowhere to put anything yet so I haven't bought anything. Logistically for us it just doesn't make sense for us to move my little girl out of her room into her big girl room until the baby is out of our room as we currently need the spare room for working from home. Then the plan is for her to move into the bigger spare room/a big girl bed and the baby to go into her room.

I am itching to decorate a room though!

Daffodil21 · 15/03/2021 10:10

@WatermelonKisses we're not doing a nursery either. If we find we need it then we will, but we figured he'd be in with us for a while anyway so we're keeping the spare room next to us as it is so it's ready for people to stay (we live far away from family). If we need to make it into a nursery then we will but I'm not sure we'll need to to begin with. FTM so no idea!

Very much in the 'refusing to buy anything until after 20 week scan' camp here. I wish it wasn't but that just the way it is. If the 20 week goes ok I will unleash the beast inside that is desperate to but cute things though!!

BertieBotts · 15/03/2021 10:14

No nursery here. Baby will be in our room for a year or so probably and then in with DS2. Although there is some decorating to do there.

Nothing big to buy either as we have everything from last time! I'm going to leave it all in the cellar until we're a bit closer to the time as it will just take up space in the flat otherwise. Oh, we are going to replace the cot but I already know which one we're getting and it's ikea so no need to order very early.

lucyrp · 15/03/2021 10:20

@WatermelonKisses I'm not decorating their room at all! Just putting the furniture in there and maybe a shelf or something but no painting etc.

My children will never be sharing a room so thought we may aswell start now! Well have to move house before they're 4 probably as the room is far too tiny to be anything other than a nursery. Baby will be in with us for a year probably but I like having their own furniture to store their clothes and bits and pieces in.

wimbler · 15/03/2021 14:50

I didn’t know the position of my placental until I had my 20w scan today. Found it’s at the front and on my left which explains why I’ve only been feeling baby on the right side so far. All good with the scan which was a relief!

WatermelonKisses · 15/03/2021 15:03

Thank you everyone I feel a bit better now, knowing I'm not the only one! I need to get off Instagram and seeing all the picture perfect nurseries!

@DaffodilKisses, that makes sense, you won't really need it when baby is in with you apart from for storage and sometimes we used to do our daughters after bath lotions/getting changed in her room because it was a nice atmosphere but it's definitely not needed! I think I just want something to get stuck into and organised but it's probably going to be a basic set of drawers and rail in the spare room until baby is at least 6 months.

@lucyrp I don't think my two will share either unless they want to when they are older or working from home becomes permanent for my husband. I think that's what I'm missing, having the furniture to get everything organised etc but it's gonna be a basic/short term option until the baby is 6 months min. We want to move in the next few years too so I don't want to go crazy.

@BertieBotts
We have most of the stuff from last time too, or a lot of it is still in use. My daughter is still in her cot and I don't want to rock that boat and move her into a bed till it's really necessary!

Caz1226 · 15/03/2021 15:19

Hi everyone
Had my 16 week check up (although I’m 17 weeks 6 days) everything was good
I asked about the size of my bump (non existent) and the lack of feeling anything and she is not concerned as I am very petite she wouldn’t expect me to
She said I should “pop” and maybe start feeling bits in a couple of weeks or so which put my mind at ease a lot
It’s hard not to compare with others but need to remember everyone is different and will of course carry pregnant differently
Counting down the next 15 days now until my 20 week scan 🥰
Hope everyone has had a nice Monday xx

Whatshouldbemyusername · 15/03/2021 15:36

Hello all.

It's been a really busy morning today work wise and I've been really uncomfortable with bloated ess!

I wanted to ask you all for your personal opinions on flu jabs. I had my 16 week telephone appointment on 12th and the MW told me to think about whether I want to take the flu jab or not.

Has anyone already had it? Are they really necessary as they aren't compulsory. Any advice will be appreciated x

Oh and all those asking about anterior placenta - I have one and when I got my notes from the 12 week scan it stated that. I'm 17+1 today and nowhere close to feeling any baby movements from the sounds out it as many of you haven't had any at week 19/20 with anterior placenta x

Smurf123 · 15/03/2021 15:50

@Whatshouldbemyusername I've had both the flu vaccine and whooping cough vaccine in this pregnancy - I get flu one for asthma anyway so had it in October before I found out.
I got both in pregnancy with ds too.. Flu vaccine I felt was particularly important this year with covid etc and whooping cough gives some protection to baby until they get their own.

lucyrp · 15/03/2021 16:15

@WatermelonKisses I think sharing rooms in my experience is why a lot of siblings end up arguing as they don't have their own quiet space to go too. It's also different for me as I have DS from a previous relationship. I too also like doing their bits and bobs in their own room.

@Whatshouldbemyusername I didn't have the flu jab with my last and not going to with this one either. Especially as I'm not going to be pregnant over the winter months this time. Ibe had the whooping cough jab though

Inmypjsagain · 15/03/2021 17:11

People asking about anterior placenta, I found out checking my 12 week scan notes.

I’m 19 weeks tomorrow and in the last week have definitively felt movement, only 3 times but and always in the same spot. One time it felt like a proper punch. I’m not expecting any regular movement for a few weeks yet

Also another one not doing a nursery. Assuming baby will be in our room for a year or so, spare room staying spare, we’ve got wardrobes and a chest Of drawers in there already. Even with the guest bed plenty of room for a cot so we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it!

Am feeling utterly shattered today! Hate Mondays

MrsB2019x · 15/03/2021 17:20

@Whatshouldbemyusername I had it before I fell pregnant but would get it if offered - seems odd though as they usually stop giving them around now as we’re not in flu season?

Good news about your scan @wimbler ☺️ Can’t remember if you were finding out what you’re having?

We will be doing a nursery but keeping the spare bed in there until baby moves in there properly, just in case anyone wants to stay or if I kick DH out of bed for snoring (likely 😏)

WolfMother326 · 15/03/2021 17:32

Hello all, hope everyone is well.

We haven't done anything nursery-related yet but will need to get things. Currently living in a very small space, but planning to clear out some things we don't need and maybe store a few things and set up a little nursery in the corner of our bedroom until we move (after the baby). Not planning to buy anything until probably May. But I did make a baby wish list on John Lewis just to keep track of ideas and things I might like to look at.

I know there was a big discussion earlier about pregnancy pillows and I really need to buy one asap. Been sleeping terribly as the bump is starting to feel heavy and needs support (even though it doesn't look that big!) - can anyone remind me which kinds were recommended? I dont think a U-shaped pillow would fit in our bed as we have a double (also planning to upgrade that after moving!) Thanks x

WolfMother326 · 15/03/2021 17:33

Also I don't think I've felt any movements yet - maybe a flutter here or there but I don't think so. I'm 17+6 today, having my 20 week scan next Friday and will be 19+3, so a little early, but can't wait...

lucyrp · 15/03/2021 18:32

Very jealous of you all with beds in your spare rooms. Plz excuse the mess but will attach a picture to show you how small our spare room is so is no use for anything else 🤣

biscuitcat · 15/03/2021 18:45

Hope everyone's well 😊

I'm totally knackered too! I got to go into work today rather than being at home, it was honestly like Christmas, I was so excited 😂 but it's tired me out something rotten, and adding a commute in means that all my admin and stuff moved into my evening... still worth it!

We've bought a changing table (@lucyrp it looks like the same or very similar to the one you have, Mothercare?) before the 12 week scan as it was such an incredible deal on Marketplace, and most of the rest of our furniture is being donated by family luckily. I'm waiting until my 20 week scan next week to buy clothes, just in case - so many adorable things saved ready to bankrupt me!! And we've booked an appointment at our local baby shop (thank you for the tip @BertieBotts) to go and look at car seats at the end of April.

Whatshouldbemyusername · 15/03/2021 19:01

@lucyrp @Smurf123 @MrsB2019x thank you for your responses x

Yes I'm actually thinking of not taking the flu vaccine. Will take the whooping cough one but I'm not looking to take too many vaccines. Abit of a hippy here I try avoid all sorts of medications even paracetamol until unless it's my last resort. Haven't had anything atleast in the last 5-6 years touch wood x

@lucyrp it's a cute nursery all the same. To all those people talking about nurseries and waiting. I am going to wait till after around 25 weeks to start buying anything. Got the travel system and daytime pod from the baby fair last month though x

I have also started putting together my baby wish list registry on Amazon and have given a heads up to my dad and sisters that if they want to give anything for baby - will appreciate something from the registry 😁

@Inmypjsagain I've had an absolute manic day today. Started work at 8 as I knew it will be busy. Had a working lunch and finished at 6:30! Although I'm gonna have a really hectic week as I've got too many deadlines approaching ☹️. Totally shattered x

Daffodil21 · 15/03/2021 19:04

@lucyrp that's so cute!!

lucyrp · 15/03/2021 19:09

Well after al that my 5 year old decided to stand in the side of the cot and has broken it so stay tuned to find out if its broken for real or not.

@biscuitcat yes it's from mothercare! I had the same with DS so wanted to get the cot to match this time around we got both off marketplace for £100 but need to find some replacements now as its broken ...

@Whatshouldbemyusername I do love it already🥰

@Daffodil21 thank you so small so limited to what we can have in there really but that's about it and the bookcase I mentioned earlier !

WatermelonKisses · 15/03/2021 19:20

@lucyrp it looks so similar to my daughter's furniture in her room but ours is from Mamas and Papas. £100 for both is a total bargain! I'm looking for a pram on marketplace, hope I get a good bargain. It's about the size of my daughters room too, luckily there is a small inbuilt wardrobe for hanging. I think a smaller room is actually lovely for a baby, just small and cute with everything in its place!

I know what you mean about sharing rooms, I shared with my sister growing up and hated it as she was so messy and I'm really organised and tidy, always have been. I guess not everyone has the choice though and I know two little girls who wanted to share even though they didn't have to!

@whatshouldbemyusername I got my flu jab at the 12 week scan, they just offered it to me while I was there so I took it and I'll get the whooping cough at the 20 week scan. I'm not sure I would bother now as flu season is almost over? But I guess if you're there anyway and offered it you could take it.

HopefulB · 15/03/2021 19:42

Evening all!

@Whatshouldbemyusername
Not sure I’d bother with a flu vaccine at this point in the year (and I’m very pro vaccination). I had one in Oct.

I’m not preparing a nursery. We have 2 ‘spare’ rooms currently although one is a box room, that is really just our wardrobe as there’s not much room for one in our bedroom. Like @Daffodil21 we have family a significant distance away so will keep one set up as a guest bedroom for first year & see how often people visit before committing to a child’s room, and deciding on keeping the wardrobe (no guest room) or making a very small guest room (would only take a small 120cm double).

No purchases here yet. Although the carrycot I want is available on a massive discount (£199 down to £67) on Amazon at the mo, so very tempted!

lucyrp · 15/03/2021 19:47

@WatermelonKisses that's what I thought! I paid over £350 for the drawers and the wardrobe ex display so £100 for cot and drawers was great. I've found a couple of nice prams I want that are £200 🤪 yeah it's actually quite cute I'm falling more in love with it now I know I can actually fit what I want in there 🙈
Of course not and I'd like to think I can give them both their own space but if we can't for whatever reason in the future I'm sure they'll be fine to share
