Morning all!

Well well well.... guess what..... NO NEWS HERE! Had you going for a minute though didnt I! HAHAHA

Sorry, am in a weird mood today, not sure why! DH let me lie in til 9am so that was good - beats being up at 6.50am like he was!

Got MW appointment this afternoon, doubt there will be anything to report - she tends to do the basics and kick you out again.

Have been jumping DH at every chance the last few days and told him to get used to it as i wont stop til this baby is out - dont think ive ever seen him smile so much!!!

Had another run of contractions after the deed last night, but not regular and not overly painful so guess it was strong BH's - grrrr!

Well have a good day all, im not up to much - lots of house stuff needs doing!

littleoldme · 07/11/2007 10:05

Loopy - Thanks for the induction advice, much appreciatiated. I love image of you DD curled up in her pink ear defenders.

Sparkly - Sounds like a pants day. I hope today is much happier ofr you all.

JARM - Hows the lazy cousin's job hunting going? Glad you enjoying natural induction methods

Lizzie - I like your attitude re spending time with your man.

Cape - Glad you are enjoying your mat leave. I think that RL tea can cause more bleeding after birth. Not sure though. Loopy will know.

Good luck Silk and Choudru XXX

Hope you all manage to sort out your bra issues. I got a great one yesterday. It's a Royce one and V supportive. It was quite pricey but then again mine are huge and nothing else was supportive.

Well, I'm going to potter about the house go out for lunch.

have alovely day one and all.

JARM · 07/11/2007 10:13

lazy idle cousin is still lazy and idle but we are getting there i think! I dont reallycare what job he does, but he needs a job! He doesnt een know what he wants to do which i think is half the problem!

That coupled with the fact his mother couldtn give a shit about helping him - so its down to us, but its a thankless task so I wouldnt recommend it to anyone!

There are loads of jobs out there at the moment, but its trying to get people to even consider a 17yr old scruff bag who has such a broad scots accent most people cant understand him! It even came down to me giving him a haircut with the clippers the other day because he takes no pride in himself - at least he had the decency to put a shirt on yesterday to go into town to look for a job!

Ah well, rant over - i could whinge and whine about him and his mother all day, but ill stop now!

Wonder if there is any news from choudru or silk today............ oooooooh its getting all exciting!

mrsjetson · 07/11/2007 11:16

LizzieO - due today too - I don't believe that anything is going to happen though!! Good Luck to you!!

Any news from Choudru or Silk?

ChocolateHobnob · 07/11/2007 12:06

Hello! Good luck Choudru and Silk! And everyone else - can't quite gather up enough energy to reply to everything as I had another crap night's sleep and am dead today.

I am 41 weeks today, how horrible... I had a sweep this morning - head is fully engaged and cervix was 'favourable' so all good signs. The sweep itself hurt when she stuck her fingers in initially but then wasnt too bad. No confidence it'll work but at least it wasnt horrendously painful.

Am booked for induction next Tuesday when will be 41+6. I know I could refuse it but I am over emotional and over tired and just hoping lo comes before then!

Hugs to everyone and I'll try to be more personal later when I've had a nap hopefully!

Oh goodness, I feel that it is quiet on here now that I have all the time in the world. I hope it's because people are off having babies.

ELB1- I know that I am a bit late but what a beautiful little darling Jessica is! Sigh.

This will be my first baby and I just have a few questions that I feel everyone else already knows and has opinions.

What exactly is a sweep and when to 'they' do them?

Also, why does it seem that everyone is so against being induced? I am hoping that I won't have to be but don't really have much knowledge on the subject.

Thanks.

FCH · 07/11/2007 16:24

Hello!

Well, I am feeling a bit grumpy. I saw the MW yesterday who said as the baby's head didn't seem to be engaging and I am almost a week over I should go up to the ante-natal clinic at the hospital to discuss if they thought there was any sort of issue.

So there I was at the clinic and saw the Obstetric Registrar who was a perfectly nice chap and basically said "can't see any problems but I take it you are very uncomfortable and want to talk about induction" I said, "well no - not really. I understand it is very common for first time mums to go a week or so overdue, I am not all that uncomfortable, and as my understanding of induction is that I get a dramatically increased risk of intervention and eventual caesarian for no great benefit I'd rather not be induced if it's all the same to you". At this point he told me that most babies are born on or around the due date and there is no evidence that this is any different for first time mothers. This was followed by "So basically you are very unusual to be so far overdue" (6 days ) Is it just me or is it a bit disappointing to go and talk to these people to discover that they are spouting sh*te??

Anyway - he felt strongly that it was important to have a "plan" (erm current plan - wait for baby to arrive!!) so I am booked to go and talk to them again next Wednesday (at 41+6) by which time hopefully the baby will have arrived, but if it hasn't to "discuss further options". I think he was a bit taken aback that I kept disagreeing with him to be honest - and he looked a bit shocked when I pointed out in response to the comment "we can't guarantee you won't end up with an unexpected stillbirth" that he couldn't guarantee that I wouldn't end up with an unexpected cot death either, or in fact that I wouldn't get hit by a bus before next week. I mean FFS!!

So, rant over, but I am feeling a little bit frustrated!

On the bright side we have people coming for dinner to distract me - and I have social engagements tomorrow so the weekend will be here before we know it.

Right - off to make fishy pie and calm down!!!

ChocolateHobnob · 07/11/2007 17:12

Hi all

Cape - I had a 'sweep' today - first baby too and am no expert but my info said a membrane sweep involves literally 'sweeping' the cervix to try to kick start some action. The midwife sticks her fingers inside and rummages around and it's undignified and uncomfy but not horribly painful or mine wasnt. Here they offer it from 41 weeks and they wont do it if the cervix is too closed/posterior or if the head isnt engaged to a certain degree. I dont know if it's the same everywhere. I read oodles about it yesterday wondering whether to do it or not and I gather that it can have downsides (pain of procedure; can cause false labour pains; will probably work only if your body's ready anyway) but can also work so opinions are mixed. Better than induction I reckon so worth a try.
Induction - well it's artificially imposed and the contractions can be overpoweringly strong early on; higher risk of interventions (forceps/ventouse/emergency c-section) etc. I think. I'm not keen!

FCH, did they explain why head wasnt engaging? I reckon your lo like mine is just really comfy in there. Mine has engaged but it doesnt want to come out anyway! My midwife told me today that first babies are more likely to be late AND that 40 weeks is a stupid thing to tell people because 42 weeks should be 'term' as it's perfectly normal to go that long.

Loopy, I didnt ask about a second sweep and the mw didnt suggest one but I think I might ring the community line and ask if I could have another say on Monday morning... cos it really wasnt that bad and if it could only work...!

Well drama here because I managed to fall down! Landed heavily and painfully on my knee and hands. Rang the maternity assessment unit and they told me to sit still for a while and monitor baby movements, which all seem fine - baby same as ever. I just got a shock.

Hope you are all okay... sending good labour vibes....

RGPargy · 07/11/2007 17:13

Hi everyone!!

Sorry to see that some of you overdue-ers are still here (in the nicest possible way, of course).

FCH - You certainly put them in their place today! You go girl!!

Still no news from silk and Choudru i see. I can only assume they have had their gorgeous little bundles of joy!! Lucky things!!

I went for another scan today to check baby's presentation. Thankfully she is cephallic and facing inwards so she is in the perfect position. They couldn't tell how far engaged (or not) she is unfortunately and couldn't confirm she was definitely a girl, although she did say she couldn't see anything "untowards" in between her legs lol.

I've got the most AMAZING pic from the scan. Just at the right time, baby turned her face towards the camera and we got more or less a full frontal facial pic. It's a bit like a magic eye pic - you might find it hard to see at first, but once you do see it, it's amazing. I've put the picture up on my profile, along with a badly drawn photoshop version with the outline of her face drawn in so you can see it easier.

Hope you've all been well today!!

Cape - enjoy your mat leave and try and rest lots. Thankfully my DP has received my email from Babycentre which says that i should be resting as much as possible now so if that's not excuse to put my feet up, i dont know what is!!!

Oooooo nearly dinner time!!

RGPargy · 07/11/2007 17:17

Choc - sorry to hear about your little tumble. Take it easy now and rest. It's the shock more than anything else isn't it?! Poor you!

sorry to hijack ladies but need to find JARM

can you email me when you see this (address is on the Suffolk thread) I have some things I was gonna Freecycle (loads of disposable breast pads sent to me by lasinoh and the like) but thought as you're nearby you might want them?

hijack over

revelyell · 07/11/2007 17:33

FCH- thats rubbish treatment you've had there... im all het up hearing about it!
my MW says that some babies dont engage until labour begins- or i thought thats what she said. anyone else know anything about that? i cant believe what the consultant said to you about stillbirth. the frigging cheek of him to try and scaremonger you like that makes me so mad!! they should only ever mention that if there is medical evidence going that way! arghh!

not ot mention that only 5% of babies arive on due dates... and the medical model, seems to me, has absolutely no bloody idea when a baby will arrive, its hte shabbiest most arbitrary system ive ever come across, and then they have the temerity to induce women based on these blindfolded pin the tail on the donkey dates and put her and her baby at risk of potentially horrible interventions etc.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

RGPargy · 07/11/2007 17:44

Revel - it's common for second and subsequent babies not to engage until labour, but i dont think it's unheard of for the same to happen to first babies either. I agree that it's very about scaremongering poor FCH! What a cheek!!!

OP posts:
Minicooper · 07/11/2007 17:49

Well, just back from the doctors - all well except that he kept saying "you're absolutely huge!" (Just what a girl wants to hear, pg or not!) Then said he thought the baby was already 7.5 - 8lb already - and still 3 weeks to go before due date! Not sure they can really tell just from a feel can they? Was feeling a bit at this, but feel treatment was positively good compared to you, FCH. at your experience at the hospital. Of course they can't guarantee everything will be ok for any of us, but why make us any more worried than we already are? How will that help???!!! Sorry, rant over!!!

JARM · 07/11/2007 17:50

Evening all.

Pillock - posted on the suffolk thread!

FCH - OMG - appalling but you did make me laugh, even read your post out loud to DH who laughed too and we both think you did the right thing! WELL DONE YOU.

Choc - take things steady my dear, hope you are ok after your fall.

RGP - WOW! What a FAB pic! She is sooooo cute!

MW appointment was ok I guess.... everything normal, but got to meet the other midwife attached to my doctors surgery at last, and she is so lovely! So much nicer that the other one, yet I thought she was ok too! Im just bored and fed up now and all my brood seem to be coming down with coughs and colds and I really dont want it!

Minicooper · 07/11/2007 17:51

Oh, and Revel, a friend just had a baby at 42 weeks - had to be induced in the end and baby never engaged. That was a first baby too, so not unheard of.

berrybliss · 07/11/2007 19:17

Hi ladies, Moving went really well and we are all settled just waiting for the sofas to be delivered.

The new house is really lovley and DP has done an amzaing job i'm very proud.

I'm so glad to have the internet i've felt so disconected without it.

I'm 38+3 and fed up getting lots of mood swings and stomach upsets.

I really want the baby out now. As i have taken to eating loads i'm always hungry. Is anyone else eating for England or is it just me?

Hope everyones well and sending out labour vibes to all...........BRING ON THOSE BABIES!!!

RGPargy · 07/11/2007 19:22

Hi berry!! good to have you back and glad the move went well! I think we've had a couple or so babies since you went offline! check out the list and see!

OP posts:
revelyell · 07/11/2007 20:10

thanks for confirmation RG and Mini... there we go FCH, who needs them obstetricians anyway! good luck btw with the next steps.

berry- i know well what you mean, ive had the runs for about 4 days plus swinging hugely between ' i dont want to talk to anyone' to feeling quite normal. my mobile has about 17 messages backed up on it and now theres no way ill be checking them! i feel, if you cant opt out of everyday life just before labour, then when can you...

I had a scan yesterday cos i was measuring small for dates and i was worried cos i am only a stone and 3 pounds heavier than when i began this pregnancy malarky.. i was worried that id worked too hard for too long (quite a physical stressful job you see) and the MW wanted to check that baby was 'thriving'.

so i was happy (and all potential guilt relieved) to find that im ony measuring small because he's dropped low in my pelvis (no wonder i cant bend over anymore!) and more than that, is approaching 8 pounds!! this is very exciting for me as i am quite petite and the women in my family generally pop out 6 or 7 pound babies only..
am feeling stupidly proud of my body to have grown a bouncing boy (as far as we can tell) despite everything, and illogically feeling like patting my belly 'well done'

JARM · 07/11/2007 20:59

dont go there on the mood swings!!! I tell ya, im like the devil possessed at the moment. I am so ratty and short tempered.... its the DD's i feel sorry for, im having to physically walk out when they start (its ok DH is always there) because I just know Ill do something i regret!

Roll on getting these babies OUT, I just want my body back and my hormones to level out a bit!

Welcome back Berry - WOO HOO to DP on the house, you sound really chuffed!

Im feeling quite low tonight anyway, a bit emotional and almost as if im bottom of the pile and no-one cares im sure it is just hormones but i just want to cry and cry and have someone scoop me up and cuddle me for hours!

Pixiefish · 07/11/2007 21:08

mood swings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wait till your babies are born. i haven't stopped crying for 3 days every time the tiniest thing goes wrong.

dd2 got a pressie yesterday but dd1 didn't. had me in floods when dd1 asked if it was hers- i just told her they had to share it. she's not bothered about clothes but she is the toys

JARM · 07/11/2007 21:36

awww pixie - how are you doing? DD2 settled down a bit?

RGPargy · 07/11/2007 22:05

awwww Berry, Jarm & Pixie. Sorry to hear you're all a bit emotional at the mo. No doubt it will pass although i know it can be a struggle to pick your emotions up sometimes. Pixie - do you think you have a touch of the baby blues?

The only thing i get emotional about is my family's lack of interest in this baby. DP's family have been absolutely fantastic tho and more than make up for the lack of my family.

Still no news from Choudru and Silk?!!
