Thanks @Magik01 it seems really lovely here!

PurplePansy05 · 19/02/2021 08:22

Fair enough @LyraShaeLilly, it's a personal choice 💐

So I was very excited to try my Calpol decongesting plug in and then read on the packaging do not use in pregnancy 🤦🏼‍♀️ Back to square one...xx

PurplePansy05 · 19/02/2021 08:26

@Whatshouldbemyusername This book was recommended on one of the earlier threads I'm sure and I've consistently seen it recommended online. Forgot about it but might get it after we move! xx

lucyrp · 19/02/2021 08:27

@PurplePansy05 that's odd but then again you aren't allowed to use any decongestants when pregnant so it must contain some of those. You are allowed to use vix vapour rub though!

lucyrp · 19/02/2021 08:30

@PurplePansy05

Safe Vicks products:

Vicks Vaporub is safe for mums-to-be and helps relieve the symptoms of a blocked nose, sore throat and cough. It is available as an ointment for rubbing on the chest, throat or back, and can also be added to hot water and the vapours inhaled.

Vicks Inhaler looks like a little lip balm stick and contains menthol, camphor and pine needle oil, which work to help clear stuffiness – it’s safe to use when pregnant.

Vicks First Defence nasal spray doesn’t contain any active medical ingredients, but uses a microgel to trap any possible cold virus particles and stop them getting into your system, so it’s generally considered safe in pregnancy.

I was surprised too @lucyrp, maybe because it's not been tested in pregnancy? But then I read somewhere that it's because decongestants can affect the mucus plug. I'd never think of that, no idea if this actually true or an old wives' tale! Thanks re Vicks, I've just checked and it is safe indeed, that's amazing! 😘 xx

lucyrp · 19/02/2021 09:13

@PurplePansy05 yeah I think I've heard something about causing dilation or whatever. Let's be honest you're not going to put yourself up for testing when pregnant are you! 🙈 I'm sure I used vicks when pregnant with DS as I was pregnant from august to April so all over the winter. Going for baths and showers helped decongest too xx

MrsB2019x · 19/02/2021 09:28

@PurplePansy05 @lucyrp Wtf I’d have never thought that about the Calpol decongestant! 😧 I guess it kind of makes sense when you think about it, but wow

15 weeks today and to mark the milestone baby has treated me to vomming, yaaaay 🤗 getting so fed up of this now. Makes me feel awful saying it because this little one is so wanted, so loved and I’m incredibly grateful to be pregnant. But this is starting to make me a bit miserable! ☹️

PurplePansy05 · 19/02/2021 09:28

No, you're right @lucyrp, and it's largely ok during the day after I shower, but the mornings after I wake up and evenings I am getting worse and worse. I hope I'll manage with Vicks, my slight issue throughout the pregnancy is that the smell of mint makes me feel sick, but maybe eucalyptus will be better! Toothpaste has been hit & miss so far xx

PurplePansy05 · 19/02/2021 09:32

I know it is a surprise to me as well @MrsB2019x, it even says not to use for your young child when they're congested and you're pregnant (ie in their room if you spend time there). Crazy.

Anyway, I feel for you with the vomming, at 15 weeks I think you're perfectly entitled to moan about it. A lot of my friends said week 16 was a breakthrough for them, I hope the same happens with you 🙏😘 xx

wimbler · 19/02/2021 09:36

@magik01
I'm going to try for a VBAC too. Did you have an emergency section last time? I think the stats for a vaginal birth ending in c-section is 1 in 5 so 20%. It's not much higher than those for a vbac but I can understand the concern if you had an emergency first time round!

Magik01 · 19/02/2021 09:42

@wimbler yes last time was an emergency after being induced, and I had a really bad recovery as well as the wound got infected. 😫 So I really don’t want it again! Was your first section planned?

wimbler · 19/02/2021 09:51

@Magik01 yes mine was planned as she was breech and the ECV didn't work. I was devastated at the time but it was a positive experience. Very calm and civilised. I'm really hoping for a vbac this time around though. It's hard to explain but since we will probably only have two children I have a strong desire to experience labour (I get an awful lot of dismissive comments and eye rolls from people when I mention this). I know I'd struggle to come to terms with having all my children without never having even experienced labour.

wimbler · 19/02/2021 09:52

@Magik01Sorry your first experience was so awful. A wound infection sounds horrendous

Alittlexmasmagic · 19/02/2021 10:01

@PurplePansy05 I've used our Calpol plug in repeatedly, never thought not to. All the individual essential oils are fine for use (as not being digested or applied to the skin) in pregnancy from what I can see and there are no active medications in there.
Perhaps get a blend of essential oils made and use with a vaporiser if you're worried. Lavender and chamomile seem especially beneficial during pregnancy. I knew someone who used to drop chamomile teabags in the bath x

biscuitcat · 19/02/2021 10:06

@MrsB2019x I know exactly where you're coming from, I feel the same quite often - baby is so wanted and I'm so thrilled that I'm able to get pregnant but good lord I don't like pregnancy! Nauseous for months, that goes, and now want to tear my skin off from itching 😩 I hope you start feeling better soon xx

MrsB2019x · 19/02/2021 10:55

@PurplePansy05 Thank you, I hope so too!

@biscuitcat Glad to know someone else gets it! Hope the itching eases for you too, that would drive me mad

Smallbean27 · 19/02/2021 11:04

@PurplePansy05 I inhaled olbas oil in a steamer yesterday and it worked a treat! It doesn't have any medication in, I have used vicks for bed which helps. Also got some nasal inhalers which also helps!
I can't be doing with the headaches, so will do anything

Carefree1 · 19/02/2021 12:35

Ladies - are there any vegans here?!
I only ask because I’m desperate for Brie - like I can’t tell you how much I want it. And figured that there may be a vegan alternative that’s similar?! 😫

I’m not missing much, but I need cheese that isn’t cheddar!! Xx

wimbler · 19/02/2021 12:42

@carefree are you vegan or are you worried about listeria? You can have brie as long as it is cooked until bubbling/steaming hot

PurplePansy05 · 19/02/2021 13:03

@Carefree1 on one of the earlier threads we talked a lot about having baked brie/camembert (basically any cheese that is fully baked or melted in the oven) and you can totally have them like that! I had both baked brie and camembert few weeks ago, delightful xx

MrsB2019x · 19/02/2021 13:32

I was SO happy when I realised I could still have baked Camembert 🤤

PurplePansy05 · 19/02/2021 13:35

Btw Stilton and Red Leicester are also safe to eat without being baked/melted @Carefree1 xx

biscuitcat · 19/02/2021 13:46

@Carefree1 I wondered the other day if Port Salut might be an ok substitute for Brie? It's lovely and soft so might work in a pinch! I know I find it's sometimes uncooked cheese which I want

lucyrp · 19/02/2021 14:02

Omg ladies I'm so worried. I've just had a really strong frontal headache for the last half hour, taken some paracetamol and drank some water. Got into bed to close my eyes for a few minutes and suddenly felt like I was going to throw up and had to run to the loo and I've thrown up my breakfast and my dinner. Do we think it's just because I have w really strong headache or could it he a sign of something else ? I've never thrown up from a headache before 😓 I haven't thrown up for 2 weeks nearly when it all stopped
