@Whatshouldbemyusername mind is due to be delivered today! Super excited!! In terms of ice cream and lollies, I think the stuff you buy from the supermarket is fine, but as far as I can remember from last time your not meant to have soft ice cream like the sort you would get from an ice cream van. So I don’t think mcflurrys are advised! Someone correct me if I’m wrong though!!

Also, has anyone approached work about the not working past the 28 week mark? I work at a large supermarket so obviously can’t work from home. I’ve not had any risk assessment yet even though they have known for over a month. Not sure whether to bring up the 28 week government guidelines or to wait as a lot can chance in 3 months it seems!

PurplePansy05 · 20/02/2021 10:44

You're right re ice cream Magik, but I have to say, I had about 4 or 5 McD's chocolate milkshakes which are made from the same ice cream as McFlurry's and I'm fine. It was a huge craving of mine Blush Most of my friends had McFlurry's too tbh.

Re vaccine the latest advice is that it's up to us when we're offered and it does not say it's dangerous, it just hasn't been tested enough for obvious reasons. My personal view is that I'd have it because to me the benefits outweigh the risks in pregnancy (to me it's enough to know about the risks of any viral illness in pregnancy tbh to make a decision, and the Oxford vaccine is a standard type vaccine with no live virus in it, it is no different type or side effect-wise to flu or whooping cough vaccines). But as I'm not public facing I assume I won't even be offered one before the autumn, i.e. after the birth. I'll have it as soon as I can, totally agree re BF, hope it is confirmed some immunity is passed this way to the LO. Everyone's personal choice and depends on the circumstances. Xx

MrsB2019x · 20/02/2021 10:46

@PurplePansy05 100%. My hair is a wreck! I should have had an appt next week 😫 I will dye it myself at home but my ends have gone so dry, they need to go!

@Whatshouldbemyusername Yeah they are fine as long as it is made with pasteurised milk ☺️ I’ve been loving rowntrees push up ice lollies and when the nausea allows, bloody love a mcflurry 🤤 totally devastating when the ice cream machine has broken!

@Magik01 Tricky one 😕 I’d maybe wait another month and mention it then, so it still gives roughly 8 weeks notice but there might be some clearer guidelines by then. I don’t envy you working in a supermarket during these times, hats off to you!

LaceyMermaid · 20/02/2021 10:46

Still suffering here with sickness, constipation and headaches this week really badly so I can sympathise with you all! Prunes every day seems to help me.
@Magik01 I’m a teacher and our head let’s people work from home after 28 weeks. Until then we have to still work in class where you can social distance and no one has had the vaccine so doesn’t feel very safe but we have no option! It’s been a bit better in lockdown as only half the children are in school so you can keep your distance a bit more. The government guidelines do say to WFH after 28 weeks so you could use that to show your boss if needed.

LaceyMermaid · 20/02/2021 10:47

Sorry meant *can’t socially distance

PurplePansy05 · 20/02/2021 10:49

@MrsB2019x Glad you said that, I was beating myself up a bit that maybe I don't need it, but I do, I've not been since November and my fringe is in my eyes and my roots are starting to look chavtastic by now. I better not DIY it myself 😳 xx

LaceyMermaid · 20/02/2021 10:50

@PurplePansy05 @MrsB2019x my hair is horrendous! One of my best friends normally does it for me so I’ve bought the stuff and she’s going to talk me though it on FaceTime. My eldest son who’s 17 said he’ll help me do the back - this could go very wrong!

PurplePansy05 · 20/02/2021 10:52

@LaceyMermaid That's so brave of you! My DH offered and I love him a lot, but not a chance in hell I'd let him dye my hair! 😂😂 xx

LaceyMermaid · 20/02/2021 10:55

@PurplePansy05 I know that’s how desperate I am! I'm thinking it couldn’t look much worse than now but I may live to regret that! For some reason I trust my eldest son more than my DH! I’d never let my middle son do it (15) he’s totally different. And my youngest is a bit too young at 12 so I’ve picked the one I think will be best!

Magik01 · 20/02/2021 10:58

@PurplePansy05 didn’t even think about the milkshakes being made of the same stuff, I had one the other week! 😂

@MrsB2019x yeah that’s what I was thinking, waiting a bit longer. I think they may do a risk assessment maybe when I get my mat b1 form so I might mention it then? We will see what boris says on Monday as well!

Smurf123 · 20/02/2021 11:03

I think mcds is actually OK as everything they make is with pasteurised milk so their mcflurrys and milkshakes are ok.. I think! I had one a few days ago

Jessicapebbles · 20/02/2021 11:21

Make that 4 letters 🤦🏻‍♀️😂😭

HopefulB · 20/02/2021 11:27

@Magik01 you employer is required in law to complete a risk assessment once you notify them. If this hasn’t happened within a month I would definitely follow up. Your risk asssesment would usually cover screen usage/posture, breaks, lifting/handling goods, stress etc, and now should include
COVID risks too. There is info in the HSE website if your company doesn’t have a specific policy/template.

It may be worth starting conversations early about WFH >28weeks, if it’s a large company they may have a redeployment process, where they have suitable tasks for you to work on at home, but giving them time to consider this would mean maximum potential of finding something that benefits both you and them!

The smell of McD’s made me
Feel nauseous before pregnancy, so can’t contemplate going near now! I’d be more worried about soft ice cream from a van/McDs than cheese or deli meat from a reliable source - but that may just be my shopping biases coming out, rather than any sort of logic!

Magik01 · 20/02/2021 11:43

@HopefulB I work for Tesco, so you would think they would be hot on this stuff. 🙈 As for the working from home, I can’t do my job from home either, that’s why I’m tempted to wait a little bit to mention that guideline incase it does change!

Fran919 · 20/02/2021 11:46

I’m with everyone on the ice lollies front, the fruity the better. Have to have one every night without fail!
I’ve completely gone off anything dairy so cheese, yoghurt and ice cream. Really conscious I’m not getting calcium so no idea what to have but hopefully once sickness goes I’ll stomach it again! Just worried I’m causing damage.

I’ve not had risk assessment yet but it’s only been 3 weeks, I permanently wfh too though my contract has my main office 200 miles away, I will need to travel at some point but hopefully not in COVID and realistically it’ll be next August after 12 months off.

lucyrp · 20/02/2021 11:56

@Magik01 you'd think working as a cafe assistant I can't do my job from home either but oh no they've found endless amounts of shit to do🙄 which is definitelt my manager just passing on stuff she should be doing to us. I'm doing stuff I've never done before and don't really know how to do which makes me panic a lot

LottSE20 · 20/02/2021 12:05

I had a soft ice cream from a van in Crystal Palace Park last weekend Confused I didn’t even know it was a thing! I’ll stick to Soleros from now on..

lucyrp · 20/02/2021 14:44

Ooo ladies I’m having some cramps today and lower back pain and of course I’m worrying ☹️🥺

LyraShaeLilly · 20/02/2021 16:00

As I work in the NHS and am terrified of ending up on a ventilator after 28 weeks when the risk of complications is higher for pregnant women, and if all ok at 20 week scan I will be requesting the vaccine from my work then, I feel at 28 weeks the risk Vs benefit balance shifts eg baby if big and developed enough and risk to me and baby from covid is higher.

The risk benefit ratio is different for everyone and should be weighed up individually, the RCOG have really good clear advice on the vaccine and pregnancy to help make your decision.

LyraShaeLilly · 20/02/2021 16:01

Also the John Lewis offer ends tomorrow of spend £500 get £100 voucher in case anyone else is interested, I just ordered a few baby bits.

Jessicapebbles · 20/02/2021 16:06

@LyraShaeLilly - That’s a good way of looking at it, thank you. I think I’ll speak to my consultant and do something similar.

@WhatEvenIsSleep I really hope your scan went well today! 💙💖 xx

LottSE20 · 20/02/2021 16:39

@lucyrp I’m sure it’s just normal stretching and movement down there. I had awful cramps a few weeks back that kept me awake all night and I was terrified, but it turned out to be fine. Maybe if they persist try calling the midwife for some reassurance?

Magik01 · 20/02/2021 16:46

@Whatshouldbemyusername just opened my pillow, I’m pretty sure my extra sleeve is in stone. Ah well! It’s still a bonus that it was free!! DH said I can’t have it yet though. 👀

biscuitcat · 20/02/2021 16:57

Oh wow everyone's been chatty today, so many messages to catch up on!! I've been wondering about the vaccine too, I'm now eligible as I'm registered with the health care professionals council (though I'm not as front line as many of you, and able to work from home mostly). Previously I was very much leaning towards waiting, but the awful story the other day about a woman's baby being stillborn in Israel, that they think is from Covid, has made me start rethinking. I also hate working from home and really don't want to stay doing it, as I think we'll be going a bit more back to normal work wise just as I'm approaching 28 weeks! So if the vaccine means I can work normally that would really factor in for me.

Whatshouldbemyusername · 20/02/2021 17:09

@Magik01 the stone is nice too. Eeek you can’t have it ...

Oh well I guess it will make it more sweeter in 2 weeks then 😄
