Pregnancy after loss - Autumn babies 2021

Pancakes7 · 10/02/2021 14:20

Hi All, I have only just got my BFP and it's still faint atm. I had an mmc in May 2018, I then gave birth to my son May 2019. I had another mmc July 2020 and have been ttc ever since. I just got my BFP yesterday, so very early days. I'm not ready to join both groups quite yet. I thought this could be a space for us all going through pregnancy after loss. As we all understand the nerves/anxiety that go with this. I hope it's useful.

A bit of back ground on me. I'm 33, married. I have a 20 month old son. I haven't returned to work yet since maternity. I returned for 2 weeks then was put on furlough. I will be going back part time, doing 3 days.

Thanks @imisscoffee 😊 I think how anxious I was last week is what has put me off another one before the 12 weeks as it was just a long wait! I read another one of your comments there too and I think it’s really lovely that Frank shares the same birth month as your other children, that’s really nice 😊

@Pancakes7 I think I knew I’d be anxious when I got pregnant again, but it’s way worse and different than what I expected 😂 I actually just sat and stared at my scan photo on my phone for ages before I put up my last message. I really like having the photos on my phone so I can look whenever I want. I also have the two photos on the mirror that I use to get ready so I can see them everyday 😊 and my husband can too

Pancakes7 · 08/03/2021 19:54

@PumpkinEverything That's lovely having the scans on the mirror. I always took a photo of the scans with my son so I could look on my phone. It's nice you can look any time then. Good idea to wait now for your 12 week scan. Do you have a date yet?

PumpkinEverything · 08/03/2021 20:18

Nope, still impatiently waiting @Pancakes7 running to the door every time the post comes 😂 I’m going to give it a week or so and then I guess maybe ring them

Greenrubber · 08/03/2021 20:30

Can i join I am due September
I've had 2 miscarriages and I havd s scan this Thursday and I'm terrified!
Has anyone on this thread got to their 12 week scan without any spotting or bleeding and there be no baby?

Pancakes7 · 08/03/2021 20:35

Welcome @Greenrubber I'm sorry for your loss. My first mmc I didn't have bleeding till 11 weeks and it had stopped growing at 6. But everyone's different. I then had my son and then another mmc last year and I found out because I had an early scan. Congratulations on your BFP. Good you've got a scan booked. I think we have about 4 girls with scans on Thursday. I've got my scan Friday. Fingers crossed for us all 🤞🏻🌈

@PumpkinEverything Aw the wait is hard! My midwife appointment came via email so I wonder if my scan would come via email too. It's all changed since I had my son. I had to refer myself too. Previously I phoned my gp. I hope your letter arrives soon!

I had to go private for my scan as I've not seen my midwife yet and I was planning on getting the harmony test anyway!
I have no idea when I will get my NHS scan lol

Smurf123 · 08/03/2021 21:03

@PumpkinEverything I've read that baby sleeps for 18-19 hours a day at this stage which would likely explain them not moving too much.
I had a scan at 9 weeks and couldn't see the heartbeat until the consultant pointed it out and played it for me to hear.
Only really the last scan last Monday that I really saw much movement. And that's at 17+4
But I understand the worry as I'm in a similar boat. Even though consultant told me she was happy with everything she saw I'm still worried about the measurements saying 17+0/1 instead of 17+4.
Should be 18+4 today still not feeling movements either 😔 it's hard to keep the anxiety under control

Bellabubble · 08/03/2021 21:22

@PumpkinEverything I didn’t see any movement at my 8week scan. My sonographer (she was a midwife and then specialised in obgyn sonography) was really knowledgeable and went through loads of stuff for me, and she explained to me that babies in the womb sleep/wake up every 20-30mins, so depending on when your scan is - you might get the baby’s nap time! She also said they base the date on the crown to rump length, and that if it only changes by a day or 2 either way then it isn’t any concern :) I know on my 8 week scan she said the head is still more of a black shadow so it can be hard to get a very exact length.

@vitaminb33 I’m due a week before my first due date would have been last year!

@imisscoffee I’m glad your news was positive in the sense of this pregnancy - it must feel a relief to have that weight off your mind. My friends that had consultants for their pregnancies both said they had a lot of reassurance from them and that it really helped them on the later stages.

PumpkinEverything · 08/03/2021 21:45

Thanks so much @Smurf123 and @Bellabubble 😊 that’s really reassuring from both of you and exactly why I posted on here!

Welcome @Greenrubber everyone is very different so it’s hard to know. I found out about my MMC at 9 weeks (baby was 8) and I had my surgical management a day before I turned 11 weeks with no spotting or cramps or anything, so not sure how long I could have been waiting for anything natural!

MrsTD88 · 08/03/2021 22:09

@bookwitch13 it's awful having the excitement of early pregnancy ripped away from you isn't it, I totally get it. All in I've had 2 MMC, a chemical and an ectopic. Pregnancy terrifies me now. But I am starting to feel more hopeful and excited now I'm almost at 12 weeks 🙌🏼 enough about me though, congratulations on your pregnancy. We are all here to help you through.

@Pancakes7 The scan anxiety can be all consuming sometimes. You've made it through today and you're one day closer. Friday will be here before you know it.

@imisscoffee I am so glad you have been given some answers. Your consultant sounds lovely. You look at things so positively and I love that.

@vitaminb33 I agree with the other ladies, hopefully having similar dates may give you some comfort.

@PumpkinEverything I think at these early stages baby is asleep most of the time. I read if you have something sugary before your scan that may encourage baby to be more active. I remember my 20 week scan with my daughter having to get in all sorts of odd positions to try and encourage her to wake up and move so they could get brain measurements.. luckily we got there eventually!

@Greenrubber congratulations, Thursday is a busy scan day for our group. My first MMC I started to spot just before my 12 week scan, baby had stopped growing around 6/7 weeks.

@Smurf123 try not to worry too much about a few days difference,.my dates changed constantly with my daughter. I didn't feel any movement with her until around 20 weeks, it depends on the position of the placenta too.

MrsTD88 · 08/03/2021 22:11

Just realised my post above is massive 🙈 catching up after such a busy day with work... it went by in a flash! I wish every day was like that until my 12 week scan.

I notice we're almost at 1000 comments, we'll be needing a thread 2 soon. We're a chatty bunch!

Pancakes7 · 09/03/2021 06:27

@MrsTD88 Thanks. 1 day closer! 🤞🏻🌈
I'm glad your day went quickly hopefully you'll have many days like that till your scan.

@Greenrubber Yes we've all gone private too for early scans. A couple have had early scans at epu but most we've gone private. Otherwise you need to wait till 12 weeks. I'm not seeing my midwife till after my early scan. I want to know everything's ok first.

Smurf123 · 09/03/2021 08:33

@MrsTD88 thank you so much that is really reassuring to hear! I was told the placenta is anterior which may well mean movements won't be felt quite so early. Only real symptoms I have anymore is tiredness (mind u that could be to do with toddler being up 4 times last night!) and the heartburn / reflux! I know that's normal at this stage but so different from feeling so nauseous in the early weeks.

Pancakes7 · 09/03/2021 09:21

Hi All, I've started a new thread before we fill this one. I've tried to tag everyone. Sorry if I've forgotten anyone. Link below.

@Smurf123 it is amazing how quickly symptoms come and go isn't it. I remember feeling great in the second trimester.
