Pregnancy after loss - Autumn babies 2021

Hi All, I have only just got my BFP and it's still faint atm. I had an mmc in May 2018, I then gave birth to my son May 2019. I had another mmc July 2020 and have been ttc ever since. I just got my BFP yesterday, so very early days. I'm not ready to join both groups quite yet. I thought this could be a space for us all going through pregnancy after loss. As we all understand the nerves/anxiety that go with this. I hope it's useful.

A bit of back ground on me. I'm 33, married. I have a 20 month old son. I haven't returned to work yet since maternity. I returned for 2 weeks then was put on furlough. I will be going back part time, doing 3 days.

Hello there! Sharing the anxiety with you ladies the closer I get to my scan on Thursday. Is anyone else in week 6? I’m waiting for the nausea to hit. Didn’t have any last time either so quite keen to experience it this time! Boobs hurt sometimes more sometimes less. Think some of you feel similar re boobs. Xxx

Pancakes7 · 22/02/2021 14:21

@Firevie I'm 5 weeks today. I had nausea in my previous 3 pregnancies but not as much this time. Boobs hurting on and off. Nausea a bit on and off. Heartburn quite a bit. Not everyone gets nausea. I think you're lucky if you don't. It can be really tough.

marplemead · 22/02/2021 14:33

@Firevie not long until your scan on Thursday.

I'm 6wks today and have my scan tomorrow. I've had nausea for the last few days, but it started at the same time I upped my folic acid to 5mg. My boobs don't feel sore every day. It's so hard not to overthink every symptom or lack of.

Loss of appetite/ cravings has been the most consistent symptom across all my pregnancies. I've gone off chocolate, which I normally love, and just want to eat loaded chips all day. I've just edited my online food shop - added picalili, gherkins, pickled onions, salt & vinegar crisps and ginger biscuits.

PumpkinEverything · 22/02/2021 14:50

@marplemead your shopping list has made me hungry 😂

@Firevie I’m 7 weeks today and I’ve had the mildest mildest moments of nausea occasionally over the last few weeks, but really nothing. Boobs are a bit sore and heavy feeling, but not bad. Feeling slightly low on energy, had two bad days last week with it but have perked up a bit. Feel like I don’t want to eat most of the food I had meal planned and instead want complete junk all the time. Finding it hard to know with that tho whether I’m mentally just like oh I’m pregnant, let’s eat whatever we want and blame it on that, or if it’s actually a symptom 😂

@Pancakes7 nope that’s me now until the 12 week scan. I’ll get blood tests done with that at the same time and I’ll get a letter sent to me to invite me. She said the waiting list is quite long at the moment so there’s a chance it’ll be after 12 weeks but I’m really hoping not 🤞🏻🤞🏻 Seems to be different in other areas as I’ve heard people going for their blood work before, whereas last time I was pregnant I would have got it at the 12 weeks had everything been fine, and also my friends sister is pregnant (13 weeks) and she’s only had hers done last week too

Firevie · 22/02/2021 15:23

Thanks ladies - very reassuring. I def share the wanting to eat junk food all the time but then I don’t know if that’s just because I’m not enjoying work, bored of lockdown and this weather lol! Just really nervous about Thursday but trying to distract myself and focus on everything being absolutely fine! OH won’t be able to go with me which will also be strange but my doctor is really nice so I know I’m in safe hands.
Good luck for your scan tmr @marplemead...! Xxx

Strawberry08 · 22/02/2021 16:04

Good luck @marplemead for your scan tomorrow! Not that you need it because everything is going to be fine. Remember, the odds are in your favour for everything to be okay!

I’ve just booked my first scan at 8 weeks 1 day on the 15th March

marplemead · 22/02/2021 16:12

Thanks @Firevie and @Strawberry08 That's what the consultant said, so I'm trying not to worry.

I was back at work today, and it was actually nice to have something to distract my mind. I had a sick bucket next to me, just in case, and none of the kids commented on my rough appearance in live lessons. Not sure how I will manage with returning to school on the 8th Sad

HereWeGoooo · 22/02/2021 16:12

@marplemead thank god you mentioned loss of appetite, I didn't know this was a symptom. I'm 6w+1d and was starving up until the weekend there, but since Sat I don't feel hungry at all?!? Still eating meals but not hungry for it. Felt a bit bokey this morning when eating but don't know if I'm causing that through my mind or not! Boobs less sore, just nipples a little tender. Get the odd twang or pull and worry! Quite relaxed working from home so don't know if I'm that tired either, but getting to bed quite early. Good luck with your scan 🤞🏻🤞🏻

marplemead · 22/02/2021 16:25

@HereWeGoooo that's how I feel too. It's definitely a symptom!

I love my food normally, but just not enjoying eating anything at the moment. When I was pregnant with my DD I was so sick, and all I fancied eating was McDonald's. DH would pick up a quarter pounder meal after work most days in my first trimester Blush

Pancakes7 · 22/02/2021 17:56

@PumpkinEverything yeah here you get bloods done and urine test at your booking in appointment with the midwife. Then they repeat bloods and urine at the 12 week scan. Midwives are never as good at taking blood in my experience 🙈 plus I'm not a fan of needles. That's the main reason I wanted to delay my appointment till after my scan.

@marplemead Good luck for your scan tomorrow 🤞🏻 I'm definitely off food too. I'm wanting plain food atm. Hopefully you won't feel too sick when you're back in school.

@Strawberry08 Eek scan booked is exciting! It's nice we're having scans at a similar time. 🤞🏻🌈

PumpkinEverything · 22/02/2021 18:01

@Pancakes7 I’m okay with needles, but I’m not okay with blood 🙈 makes me feel crazy for wanting to be pregnant because of the fear. Like I’m so so bad with it. With my MMC pregnancy I got myself in a flap the day of my booking appointment as they wanted me to come down in person and I thought they were going to do a blood test, but they didn’t. I was so glad this one was over the phone so I knew I could not be stressed about that part!

Pancakes7 · 22/02/2021 18:04

@PumpkinEverything I have had to have ops with both mmc's plus my pregnancy with my son that I've kind of gotten used to them taking blood now. I was cross though that my precious op they took bloods them had to take them again as my op wasn't within 72 hours. It's all worth it though!

OP posts:
Pancakes7 · 22/02/2021 18:05

@PumpkinEverything might need the flu jab and whooping cough again too 🙈

imisscoffee · 22/02/2021 19:46

Thanks @notinthestarsigns I'll have a look at getting a sticker if there isn't one on my notes already, I'm picking them up Tuesday.

@marplemead good luck for your scan tomorrow!

Sickness has set in for me, 7 weeks today. Was almost sick brushing my teeth and have felt drained all day, needed a nap after work as I've had a banging headache. Midwife rang, she's got my 12 week scan booked for 31st march and an appointment with the fetal medicine consultant for 8th April incase there's anything in my son's postmortem that will impact this pregnancy.

Told my headteacher today, she was lovely. Mixed feelings about getting all the kids back in school on the 8th, but means I won't be working alone much so will be easier to run off and be sick!

Pancakes7 · 22/02/2021 19:50

@imisscoffee Good to have those dates booked in. 12 week scan date is exciting!

OP posts:
Bellabubble · 22/02/2021 20:51

@imisscoffee @marplemead Did you email or face to face chat with your heads? I went to today but my head had already left..and tomorrow I’m worried as everyone will be back in (we had INSET today) and there won’t be much privacy as he has to keep his office door open for COVID reaons. Also his wife is my TA so if they car share tomorrow the end of the day could prove tricky! My husband is worried about all the chikdren coming back now that I can’t have the vaccine - mostly because our parents are terrible at social distancing - so many go to the park after school together!

marplemead · 22/02/2021 21:08

@Bellabubble I haven't told my head yet, though she is aware of my MMC, so it won't come as a surprise. I'm going to wait until my 8wk scan, and then request a proper risk RA. My last one was 'just follow the same guidance as everyone else' Hmm. The biggest issue in secondary is that we are moving around every lesson. I'm not willing to do that when I'm so tired from the progesterone.

Smurf123 · 22/02/2021 21:13

@Bellabubble what age you teach?
My risk assessment said to wear full ppe if I couldn't maintain a distance and to follow doctors advice. Consultant advice was full ppe and 1m distance maintained.
I'm early years sen teacher so that's not possible. I've been moved to alternative role in school -non pupil facing.
I miss my kids but my kids are all in and have been the whole year and there is zero social distancing and lots of behavioural needs including biting, spitting and locking on a daily basis, without the vaccine it seems like the safest option

Mizzler · 22/02/2021 21:28

Hi, I was wondering if I could dip my toes in here? I'm sort of in denial about being pregnant and definitely not ready for a birth club yet!

I'm 3+4 by last period today, and had a "pregnant" cbd this morning. I had a mmc which was found at 10+4 although the baby had died at 7+6, just days after I'd had a really reassuring scan at 7+3. That was in September and we had a little break from ttc for a while but restarted around Christmas.

This would be DC2. I'm 35.

I'm so sorry for all of your losses and that we are all in this club. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.

Pancakes7 · 23/02/2021 05:47

Wow lots of teachers here. @Smurf123 That's good they've moved you to a non pupil facing role for now.

@Mizzler I'm sorry for your loss. Welcome to the thread. You'll find lots of support here. Can I ask, did they not flag any issues on your initial scan? I had a scan at 7 weeks showing a heartbeat but she did say baby was measuring about a week behind. So I was invited back for a scan in 2 weeks time. I naively thought nothing of it but now know the week behind was a bad sign. As 2 weeks later it was gone. I'm so scared of having a good scan, then finding out it's gone.

Firevie · 23/02/2021 08:35

Morning ladies! @marplemead good luck for your scan, let me US know how it goes xxx

Pancakes7 · 23/02/2021 08:36

I'm having a really anxious day today, so far anyway. I can feel the anxiety rising and it's making me feel sick. I kind of want to bury my head and pretend I'm not pregnant and stay in denial of what could happen. My denial is fading today though.

OP posts:
Pancakes7 · 23/02/2021 08:38

Good luck today @PumpkinEverything & @marplemead 🤞🏻🌈

OP posts:
Mizzler · 23/02/2021 08:54

@Pancakes7 I'm sorry, I wish I could say that there were some red flags, but everything was absolutely fine on the scan. The sonographer said that she had no concerns at all, the heartbeat was what it should be, and I was where I expected to be in terms of dates. Honestly though, I think I was in a minority. Generally I think a reassuring scan at 7-8 weeks means that your chances of miscarriage are much lower. I think I was just unlucky. I'm sorry I can't be more reassuring though.
