China - It does sound delicious - might be just the right thing for the Christmas fair at school this weekend.

I have had to do the unbuttoned look with my salopettes, even though I'm not skiing I'm still outside snow clearing and playing with the boys so I need them, I'll have to look out for a big pair and also a bigger winter jacket!! I have started wearing maternity jeans but they get baggier through the day and I had to resort to tucking my jumper inside them to keep them up - not an attractive look with that stretchy jersey panel!!

I'm just about coping with the hairband around the button of my jeans at the moment, but I think that may be purely psychological in that i don't want to get the maternity gear out until after my scan.

Also, I'm quite skinny and find i look like coco the clown in maternity for weeks - does anyone know anywhere that does good reasonably priced maternity wear that would fit all the way through the pregnancy? I needed safety pins to keep my Mothercare trousers up until about week 36 last time, not too comfy.

Josie57 · 27/11/2007 14:00

Sybil, I really struggled with trousers last time as I am quite tiny when not pregnant (size 6-8) and even whilst pregnant I just had a bump. I tried the trousers with stretchy bits at the sides but these were a nightmare as I spent all day hitching them up - even at 40 weeks pregnant. However, the trousers I did find that were good and fitted me from early on and right the way through were the ones that have the buttons and elastic that you can expand out at 1cm a time. These fitted all the way through and never fell down. I am wearing a pair now on their smallest setting and they are soo comfy. I got some from Next which were about £25 and some from Red Herring Maternity in Debenhams.

GardenAngel4 · 27/11/2007 15:32

Hello all,

Re maternity trousers (v. envious you are all in them! I am in between at the moment too small for maternity too big for normal clothes...) - I swore by Hennes last time. I didn't get on at all with elasticated waistband - Next jeans were particularly bad. But two pairs of trousers I had from Hennes with the waist that goes all the way up over the bump were awesome and so comfy - it took me weeks after the birth to remember I had zips and buttons again!

Was also really disappointed with Blooming Marvellous in both fit and esp. quality.

GardenAngel4 · 27/11/2007 15:35

PS I am looking after a friend's baby this afternoon - never done it before, it's like having twins! Am trying to imagine the future with two! (They're both asleep hence the ability to email)

xx

ernest · 27/11/2007 16:46

I've got a pair of jeans and 2 pairs of cords from blooming marvellous and they are fab, with a belt (which is comfy as it's right under the bump) they are scure and don't look at all stupid. My sil is still wearing hers and her dd is 3 or 4 months old now, so they're good early on, the whole way through and after too.

They never had these when I had my others so I'm really pleased with them, cos with the other 3 I remember too well the annoying phase when you're too big for normal but too small for maternity, but these work, really. They don't have the HUGE ugly full bump panel, they've got an thick, maybe 4" elacticated waist band the whole way round and I think you can wear it either over the bump or fold and wear it under. Highly recomended.

GA4, don't panic! I remember being terrified of looking after other people's kids & finding it a struggle and wondering how I'd cope with another, but it's so different when it's your own and you'll take to it like a duck to water, honest!

Paromapu · 27/11/2007 19:13

Hello all!

Thanks for ideas with loo rolls will take up a couple of those.
Regarding presents I like the voucher or oxfam idea. I know parents mean while but as someone said sometimes you end up with rubbish bless them! and wine chocs etc can be a problem as i know teachers ie my hubby who always gets them and i end up eating them which is fab for me but not for him hehe!!!

The best xmas pressie i had was when about 12 children clubbed together and got me a voucher for a spa treatment and massage A wonderful pressie

Well off to aerobics (low maintenance of course!!) Need to work off amount of crap ive eaten all day !!!!

Upsidedowncake · 27/11/2007 19:49

Gosh very envious of all you ladies in maternity clothes. I'm in my fat clothes - I can't remember who it was who said they were superstitious about not wearing mat clothes until after the scan, but I so identify with that.

China, your mincemeat slices sound lovely. Would butter work instead of margarine? They sound yummy and I have everything else in my cupboard!

I haven't been sleeping brilliantly either, so glad it's not just me. Dh and I sometimes end up in separate rooms as we are restless and so on. But at least we sleep better.

I bought a thing called a Bellabelt in the States last time, which is essentially a hairband as Sybil described. You get a bit more life out of old trousers though so maybe something for the skinny ones. (not me!)

Rolf · 27/11/2007 20:38

Upsidedowncake - I'm superstitious about maternity clothes too. I've bought a few things that hopefully will last me for the next couple of months - yoga trousers and tunic tops. But I get HUGE when I'm pregnant and by the end even maternity clothes are too tight

DD and I went swimming in the end and we had a lovely time. Going to bed early though!

josey · 27/11/2007 21:32

Twighlightsurfer lovely to see you so glad your doing well wish you lots of success. Big hugs and hope for some news soon I miss you xx

Hi everyone been trying to catch up, DH has been driving me round the bend, he has had me spring cleaning and Xmas shopping MEN they just dont get how quickly our fuel tanks run out just now, on a good note though Im so shattered im not even waking for a pee and Im still so tired in the morning if the alarm didnt go off I would sleep through till the next day

I got a fab pair of maternity trousers from top shop a couple of years ago they had 2 tabs that tied by buttons at the back and you just droped or upped a slot, I wore them from 3 months and a good while after also, you couldnt tell they were maternity. At the moment although I have changed shape all my clothes still fit apart from my bras I bought a couple of cheep ones out of Asda for £4 till boobs calm down then I will get new maternity ones.

debinaustria · 28/11/2007 06:20

Morning all, off for my scan today. Will show you all the picture later.
Was someone else also going today?

PiggyPenguin · 28/11/2007 07:52

My scan's at half past two so I have hours to obsess about it and generally work myself into a state of complete anxiety.

i am feeling much better as well, still unable to eat after 5.00 but not so sick and while that is a huge relief, now that scan day has come around I am obviously worrying about why I am feeling better. As dh said to me last night, there's just no pleasing me at the moment, I was miserable because I felt awful and today I am miserable because I don't!

Still, all will be revealed by the end of the day. Good luck to everyone seeing their beans today.

goingfor3christmaspuddings · 28/11/2007 08:23

Good luck today Deb and Sybil. My scan is at 10 this morning so I had better go and fill my bladder, it has to almost be at bursting point to get a good view of my cervix so fingers crossed they are not running late!

aberdeenhiker · 28/11/2007 08:45

good luck to everyone having scans today!

Rolf, I know what you mean about getting huge! Last time I had to buy a whole other set of maternity clothes at 7 months because I'd completely outgrown mine! I even had a pair of trousers split at work when I bent down - very not good!

I'm still in my regular clothes now but only the looser ones. I'm a 10 regularly so I need to wait a bit longer before I'll fit in my maternity clothes (which are 12 or 14 - I gained three stone last time and probably will again). I found that the jeans at Dorothy Perkins with an underbump band were really good for my whole pregnancy though because they have belt loops so in the early months you can just cinch them up!

ktpie · 28/11/2007 09:27

Morning everyone, I haven't started to think about maternity clothes yet, I had lost about a stone just before I got pregnant and still have all my clothes that had got too big for me so hoping they will keep me going for a while.
I had my booking in appointment with the midwife yesterday, it went really well, it looks like it will be 2 or 3 weeks before my scan, can't wait! At least it will be before christmas so fingers crossed I will be able to tell everyone my news when I see them then.
Has anyone else suffered from numb hands when they wake up? My mum has carpal tunnel syndrome and I looked it up this morning and apparently you can get it in pregnancy so I'm wondering if it is that, of course I forgot to ask the midwife yesterday! It doesn't really hurt, just a bit weird and annoying!
Good luck everyone with scans today, wish mine would come along sooner!

Rolf · 28/11/2007 09:37

Good luck with the scans today, everyone. Very jealous!

We had more musical beds last night. DH very exhausted when he came home and crashed out on DS2's bed (fully dressed) and none of us could wake him. DS2 gave up trying to move him and got into our bed then somehow fell out and got blood all over the sheets (how? how?). DD woke in the middle of the night and joined me. DS1 tried to but he is very boney and wriggly, and occasionally pees the bed so he was sent off to his own waterproof bed!

But I have doughnuts so will cope today.

Oh, and in case I'm not the only one thinking: is everyone on this thread a size 6/8/10 - I'm not . I'm usually a 14 but should be a 12.

sophiewd · 28/11/2007 09:43

And I am much bigger than you Rolf

ChinaSurprise · 28/11/2007 09:51

Morning all

Good luck with all the scans - I'll be thinking of you.
Today is my last day of work in my Really Annoying Job, and I'm so happy to be leaving! I'm going to this spa this evening to celebrate - bliss!
I tried to go to bed early last night but ended up trying on everything in my wardrobe in a bid to find something for going out tonight that (a) still fits (b) looks good and (c) hides the bump.
I had some bigger clothes left over from when I lost weight earlier this year, but although they fitted, i discovered my still unofficial bump was really obvious and sticking out a mile! Grrr - having been reduced to wearing a smock and jeans :-(
Oh, and Rolf, I am also a 14 now (12/14 before I got pg) and am also feeling a bit lumpen compared to my thread pals! Hee.
Don't sweat it - we'll all be enormous soon!

Rolf · 28/11/2007 10:07

That spa looks fabulous, ChinaSurprise. What treatments are you going to have?

Sooo glad I'm not the only one here who is bigger than a size 10!

ChinaSurprise · 28/11/2007 10:19

Hi Rolf
I'm probably not going to have any treatments - as you have to book them 6 to 8 weeks in advance (!) and I only decided I would go a couple of days ago. But there is an open air roof top pool with bubbly bits, four steam rooms, and an inside pool, which will be plenty to keep me busy.
I only discovered the brilliance of spas a few years ago when I got given a night at this one as a bonus at work - before that I'd always thought they must be really dull - how wrong I was!

josey · 28/11/2007 10:44

Morning everyone
Good luck with the scans I still have another week to wait

I have had a huge fight with the construstion site across the road from us this morning so hormons are still making me a bit uptight and I cant settle.

China I dont want to burst your bubble but steam rooms aren't safe in pregnancy and I would watch the bubble pool also as Jacuzzi's are no no's be careful.

ChinaSurprise · 28/11/2007 10:56

Hi Josey - I've looked into this and my understanding is that the danger in both steam rooms and jacuzzis comes from overheating and the consequences on circulation, so a lengthy time in a steam room or a very hot jacuzzi is out of bounds, but not moderate versions of either. But thanks for the heads up!

Josie57 · 28/11/2007 11:03

Sorry chinasuprise but there is also a danger of infection in jacuzzi's because of the increased temperature of the water making it a more hospitable environment for microbes to grow

systemsaddict · 28/11/2007 11:21

Good luck all with scans today!

I am finally starting to feel better - the ear infection settled down but the antibiotics had a really nasty side effect - the whole of the lining of one side of my mouth has degraded, it has been SO PAINFUL I haven't had solid food for four days! It's like torture, my morning sickness has gone and I'm ravenous, but can only eat yoghurt drinks and soup!! I managed to eat a few v. soft noodles yesterday and 1/3 of a banana today ... mouth is healing up a bit now though so in a few days I will be eating for England to make up for the last 3 months. Keep telling myself 'the baby will take what it needs'...

I couldn't say any more what size I 'normally' am! Before I got pg with ds1 was 10/12, afterwards 16/18, gradually got down again to about a 12/14, and now have actually lost weight since being pregnant because eating has been such a chore, but have a definite bump so am in maternity clothes already - didn't buy any till the scan although I really needed them before.

ChinaSurprise · 28/11/2007 11:36

Really? God, it hardly seems worth going now
