Poppy - I am so sorry to hear of your losses before and really hope that this time everything will be OK. Lurk all you like!

Upsidedowncake do they mean too full to do scan there, or too full for you to even have birth there?

I had my 1st at chelsea & Westminster. The ante natal care was great, the birth was ok, despite being emergency section, but the second baby was out, it was totally shocking. The post natal 'care' was truly appalling, so I would try to avoid unless you discover things have improved so much.

littlelamb, don't worry about the baby! If that was the case, few people would have 2, and no one would have 3 or , ahem, 4. But just like you can love your parents, and best friends and husband and child, you're aso capable of loving more than 1 child. They're so different. I have 3 boys and they are so unbelievably different, each infancy was different. I remember the nurses asking me sternly when I didn't know what to do with ds3, 'he's not your 1st, is he?' - No but - my others never did that. You're not having another dd1, a whole new, different exciting imteresting person is about to appear and keep you on your toes

aberdeenhiker · 22/11/2007 07:56

Rolf I love your story of your DS1 breastfeeding his teddy - and you had me giggling at my desk at "rather insultingly hodling the teddy down near his belly button!"

Upsidedowncake: I'm amazed they could say they're full. I didn't think they could do something like that - it's not like they can predict when people are due anyways! How horrible - I really hope you can get in to the hospital of your choice!

katyjo We do get a 20 week still in Aberdeen (there's rumours that it might not be for much longer though) but they wont tell you the gender so I know loads of people going for private scans. I might go for one to find out what I'm getting this time - very curious, but I don't care either way - and I know there are places that do them in Glasgow. We just got a place here this year and before that tons of people were driving down.

ktpie · 22/11/2007 08:54

Hello everyone, this is my first ever post on MN, and first pregnancy so a complete newcomer to it all.
I am due on the 20th June so by my calculations just coming up to 10 weeks. I have to say the past few weeks have been a bit of a shock, somehow I just wasn't prepared for pregnancy to make me feel so rough, tired, sick and just not myself at all, the past week or so I have been feeling a lot better (since I got some pregnancy multivitamins but not sure if that is just a coincidence!). Reading through all the posts on here has made me feel a lot better, that it isn't just me!
I've got my booking in appointment on tuesday (it was meant to be this tuesday but the midwife was off) so I'm looking forward to that and hoping I might get some information about having a scan soon.
I'll stop rambling now!

debinaustria · 22/11/2007 09:52

Welcome ktpie - I'm sorry you've had it rough too, no-one warns you of these awful early weeks do they? I've had it worse this time( I have 2 boys already aged 7 and 5)but I am beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

MN is a great place for support and you can talk about things you would never dream of in real life.

Good luck with your appointment and hope you get your scan date through soon - now that is exciting!!

debinaustria · 22/11/2007 11:35

hellooooooooo...... - echoes around the very quiet thread - where are you all my June buddies?

looney you've gone quiet - hope all is OK and the children are just keeping you away from the computer. Today we have the boys old( well not old but the childminder that had) childminder from the Uk coming over for the weekend. I haven't told them yet and they are going to be sooo excited! She was really one of the family for them and did a great job - just like I'm sure you do.

Josey how are you?

OP posts:
PiggyPenguin · 22/11/2007 11:45

have just written huge message that computer lost! so frustrating!

Anyway to recap - feelingless sick but really faint. Is this happening to anyone else? It mainly happens in public places when I get hot and start to worry am about to pass out so suspect there is a panic attack element to it as well.

Also wanted to say, Sophie - how yum does that chicken sound? and to a woman who has eaten nothing but croissants and toast for three weeks too, I don't suppose you'd consider writing it all down? [plaintive face symbol]

debinaustria · 22/11/2007 12:00

HI Sybil Glad you're feeling a little better

OP posts:
sophiewd · 22/11/2007 12:00

Just had booking in session with MW, and have decided to go for elective c section, had an emergency one last time, other than that all is well and good from her point of view, scan is in 3 weeks so looking forward to that.

Sybil - chicken for 4, but can easuily be adjusted, 8 rashers of streaky bacon cut into bits, 4 chicken breats cut into chunks, 200g pack button mushrooms,1 tablespoon flour, 1 can tinned tomatoes, dash of worcestershire sauce and a stock cube, salt and epper to taste and whatever herbs you would like.

Brown of bacon and then add chicken and cook until got some colour, add mushrooms, cook for a couple of minutes then add flour to socak up juices, then add tomatoes, stock cube and sauce and simmer until cooked.

Rice - I work on 1 cup for 2 people, chop up onion and cook in some oil, add rice and then add 3 cups chicken stock and cookuntil done.

katyjo · 22/11/2007 13:25

Upsidedowncake -I can't believe they just send you a letter - how ridiculous! You should tel them you want a home birth then they'll have to send a midwife. I am so angry for you, I know when I had ds they said if the hospital became really busy they may have to send you to another hospital when you are in labour, but to totally disown you like that is unfair.

debs - I think I'll get a 3d scan at about 24 weeks, I had one with ds it cost about £200 but at least it gives you peace of mind.

I am still feeling a bit sick, but I am really dizzy though 13 weeks today so had hoped all that would have passed by now, 2nd trimester here I come!!!

Hope everyone else feeling ok. Welcome to Poppy and ktpie, glad to have you with us.

PiggyPenguin · 22/11/2007 13:44

Thanks Sophie, that sounds as if even I could do it! really kind of you.

goingfor3 · 22/11/2007 13:56

Unfortunatly it's not uncommon for hospritals to close their books for new maternity patients. This happened to a friend of mine but the gp was the one who told her she had to choose another hospital which is alot kinder than having to wait weeks for a letter so that you have to start the process all over again.

I'm 13 weeks today which is a great feeling. This is the first week for three weeks I haven't had a scan and I just want next week to roll on quickly so I can have my next one!

josey · 22/11/2007 14:18

Hello everyone
Been having computer trouble today and was away all day yesterday collecting my poor puppy.

All ok here not been sick but have some woosey moments and some wretching Lovely!!! Still no word of my Scan grrrr!!! Dh told his mother the other night typical of that woman she thinks we have gone and done it for her HELLLLO!!!! Over the months you will get to know I could happily strangle the woman most days

Upsidedown that is disgusting, put use to all you hormons and kick up a major fuss, I hope you are able to get something sorted.

Katyjo I didnt get the 20 week with my DS or DD as the hospital didnt offer it either I just got the 16 weeks bloods, though if i remember right with DD they forgot to do the bloods and it as going to be 20 weeks and I said no way by the time I would have got the results etc I would have been well gone, and my choices though I would have kept the baby would have been taken away.

On the age gap DS will be 8 in 2 weeks so will be 8.7 and dd will be coming up for 2.10, glad it will be near the holidays as it will give me 6 weeks of no school/nursery runs etc to sort myself.

Welcome to the new girls its nice we are still growing.

Hope everyone else is ok. I have made my mind up I think I will linch my postie tomorrow see what he is doing with my mail forgot to tell you all my neighbour found my medical exemption card blowing about her driveway!!!!!

sophie that recipe does sound good - I can feel a whole new thread coming on Pregnant Recipes!!

Had all my blood tests done today...9 weeks and 2days...sigh.....

ChinaSurprise · 22/11/2007 21:49

Evening all - tried to post this earlier and pooter crashed - arrrrg.
Having a bit of a hormonal meltdown I think. In the last 24 hours I've been weeping on DH's shoulder, and rowing with my boss over the fact that a massive c*ck up by someone else means I have to do a load of last minute work just as I'm trying to handover so that I can start my new job in a different department. I was so upset I almost told him I was pg but it would have been a big mistake and thankfully I managed to hold back. Such a rotten day.
Some good news tho - DH has managed to get a v hard to find Wii console so have spent the evening bowling and feel much cheerier - we thought it would be great to have during my maternity leave as it gives a chance to have fun and be active inside. I'm not normally a fan of consoles but it's very addictive and has a v positive vibe to it - lovely music and cheery little characters - no horrid shooting games :-)
Also finally took delivery of a bundle of maternity gear from Next and am now snuggled on the sofa in lovely yoga gear and super coy slipper socks. Mmmmmmm.
Let's hope tomorrow's better.

Upsidedowncake · 22/11/2007 21:51

Welcome to the newbies, ktpie, poppy, littlelamb

No, Kingston are too busy to take me on full-stop. Yes a manger might be the solution.

Well I've gone for Chelsea and Westminster as my next option. I had ds there and it was only half full, and great. I know there are issues when it's busy, but at least I know the layout. I'm going to call them tomorrow and ask if they can speed me up a bit.

I was induced last time so want to avoid St George's Tooting (which will definitely have room) where a friend was stopped and started over a period of five days at the hospital's whim.

Good idea about involving my MP. I'm also going to write to complain to the hospital, to the Strategic Health Authority and to the Healthcare Commission (one advantage of being a civil servant).

Incidentally, NICE recommends two scans plus all the blood tests, so you could use that to argue. (not sure if relevant in Scotland tho}

ChinaSurprise · 22/11/2007 21:52

Doh, that's cosy, not coy. Here they are anyway - extremely comfy - I highly recommend them.
Night!

Upsidedowncake · 22/11/2007 22:01

pmsl China. Coy yoga trousers. I imagine them as blushing when you perform 'downward facing dog'.

BTW, meant good to be a civil servant as have some notion about who all these bloomin' organisations are.

ChinaSurprise · 22/11/2007 22:17

Hee upsidedown. Somehow I always manage to type like a moron at this time of night!
I'm not a civil servant but I used to be a news editor on a local paper so I've also got a fair idea of how the NHS works (we did so many articles about dirty hosps/ waiting lists etc). That meant I already knew about the shortage of midwives which my GP didn't volunteer when I first went to see her - she admitted it was a problem as soon as I brought it up though. It's amazing how much it helps to know how everything works. I thought about going to SHA re the lack of free nucal scans in the area, but decided it would be too late anyway by the time they pulled their fingers out and heard my case. Grrr.
Right, back to those coy trousers...

sophiewd · 23/11/2007 07:56

Morning all, glad you like the recipe, I have loads so feel frr to ask, quick and easy is how I like to cook best.

Update on odd guests, hvaing requested to come over yetserday morning thye finally phoned at 10.30 last night, and said that there would be 8 of them getting seriously hacked off, not can you fit 8 people in but there will be 8, luckily I was already in bed so DH answered, and also lucky midwife came round yestreday morning so wsa in anyway, but would hve been seriously peed off otherwise as was a lovely day and would have missed out on going for a walk.

Rant over and I thank you for listening.
