China, I would tell them before 17 weeks, you probably don't have to do it on day one in the job but I think early on would be politic - otherwise you may be impressing them with your hard work and all, but that could be a bit sabotaged by having kept this from them. They have health and safety obligations towards you as soon as they know, they can't discriminate against you legally for it, and also they may appreciate the extra time to think about and organise maternity leave cover. This happened to a friend of mine who started a new job and soon after found out she was 12 weeks pregnant unexpectedly! She was v. worried about it but it went OK.

debinaustria · 20/11/2007 07:46

Hope your ds feels better soon Ernest, did you get your work finished or will it be a late night again tonight?

OP posts:
ernest · 20/11/2007 08:20

it's gonna be a laaaaaate one

Wednesday night I reckon I'll be in bed at 7

josey · 20/11/2007 12:46

Afternoon
LOl Debs I got a good bit of housework done, it has gone unnoticed though as DH has been in bed ill since he has got home typical!!
Hope you managed with the toast?
I still feel pretty tired though as I dont work If I start feeling washed out i just sit down till feel better, with last pg I was working full time and had DS so I would take him to bed with me at 7 9/10 he would wake me to turn the tv off

Ernest hope you dc gets better soon and you manage to rest in between screaming bouts.

Upsidedowncake · 20/11/2007 12:51

China, given Christmas and all, I would keepit from them until you have impressed them with your wondrousness - unless you work in a situation where health and safety is really important - I'm guessing you don't handle chemcials etc.

Looney, I would go for the scan. What about the nuchal fold scan? Do you want this? Is this something they do where you are?

Ernest, good luck with late working, early pg and sick ds. Not a good combination.

Guys, my ds is two years old today. I cannot belive we have got to this stage.

THere will be 2 years and 7 months between ds and this one (assuming everything is OK). For those of you who already have children, what gaps are there going to be?

Rolf · 20/11/2007 13:34

There are 17 months between DS1 and DS2. Then 4 years between DS2 and DD. Hopefully when this one arrives DD will be almost 3, DS2 will be 7 and DS1 will be 8. It seems like a big spread - not what I planned for my family - I'm a bit worried about it although obviously there's nothing I can do.

Upsidedowncake - so a similar gap between my DD and the new one as you will have.

How about everyone else?

Had my booking-in appointment yesterday so I'm waiting for a letter inviting me to book a scan.

katyjo · 20/11/2007 13:45

There will be about 26 months between ds and new baby depends on dates, I work out I am due on the 3rd june but my scan tomorrow should be more accurate.

They do CUBS screening up here, nuchal fold plus various other tests combined with mothers age to give you various risk factors. I had all the tests done with ds so I'll do the same again this time, at least then you are prepared, would hate to go through labour and get a shock, with all the hormones and everything I would prefer to get my head around everything first. What about everyone else?

LOONEYplayingachristmasTUNEy · 20/11/2007 13:55

Hi everyone. Thanks so much for all your messages, I decided that I simply HAVE to have this scan on Friday for reassurance as I haven't really had many symptoms this pregnancy and apart from tiredness and 1 week of feeling sick/fussy eating, that's all I've had. If everything is ok, I promise I'll relax about the whole thing as I should be able to see little limbs and the heart will have not JUST started beating like last time. Roll on Friday!!

G43 - how cool is being a tree in a Christmas play - you'll have to post pics on your profile when it's made

GardenAngel4 - Sorry you're suffering with nausea still Hopefully it will settle down soon. Glad you have a scan date, hope the time flies for you!

debinaustria - the snow looks great! As for naps, I felt much better for about a week and suddenly today I'm shattered again so yes, still feeling tired but not daily. And I never got the naps every day anyway - could if just ds but not with 4 children under the age of 5, 3 not being mine!!

China - I think I'd be the same as you tbh so I know where you're coming from! And thanks for that info

katyjo - good luck with the scan. I have a doppler too but it never worked with ds, just heard my tummy gurgle like you said Can you remind me how soon you're supposed to be able to hear the heartbeat?

ernest - poor ds, how is he now?

Upsidedowncake - they do nuchal fold scans for about £100 but not free. Anyway, we decided we didn't want to as I wouldn't have an amnio anyway so what's the point? Age gap....ds should be 5.3 by then. Happy birthday to your ds

Rolf - hope you don't have to wait long for your scan appointment!

LIBRALADY - a HUGE Thank You for all your help re DH's redundancy - you really have been a star and we very much appreciate the emails/texts/phone calls

Right, I'm off, kids have finished their lunch and I now have a huge head ache due to bunged up nose and the 2 sister mindees crying earlier (not 100% today!). Got a new family coming to visit me at 4pm so hope it's gone by then!!

Hope everyone is ok today.

LT xx

debinaustria · 20/11/2007 14:16

Josey - hope you don't have to be nurse to your dh for too long

Rolf - 23 months between my boys and when this one arrives ds1 will be 8 and ds2 will be 6.I don't know how it will be really, I imagine it will be easier as the boys are pretty independent, not like having a toddler but people keep saying you'll have to have another so that this one isn't on it's own - I don't think so!!!

Looney - hope the headache goes by 4.00

Back to do the decorating now - oh joy!!

Hello everyone, DD is having a very rare afternoon sleep (we've gone over half an hour so gone beyond a 'nap' in my book! Hurrah)

Got confirmation of my scan today double hurrah.
upsidedowncake re gaps - call me crazy but if all goes to plan the gap will be 15months....

looney glad you've decided to go for scan (only 3 sleeps to go!). I seem to be like you - no visible signs of pregnancy at all except one awful week of sickness and now just nausea (ready salted crisp count has gone down dramatically). 14th december seems an AGE away.

rolf happy birthday to your little one. Has it flown by! DD will be 7months on Saturday whcih I just can't believe!

GardenAngel4 · 20/11/2007 15:31

Sorry meant happy birthday to upsidedowncake's little one.....

Josie57 · 20/11/2007 15:37

Hi All, Having posted for a while as still having a bit of a nightmare, it seems that everything is coming at once. After my scare with the bleed last week, which fortunately turned out ok, my mother in law got admitted to hospital on Thursday evening with a suspected heart attack so we had a very tense weekend. My poor dh came from from dublin with a flu and then had to deal with the shock of my MIL's illness. Fortunately she is out of hospital now, it wasn't a heart attack but they are trying to work out what it might have been - could be a leaky valve which doesn't sound good. Then to top it all off my ds has picked up a horrible D&V bug. He was sick at some point saturday night sunday morning and didn't even cry out for his mummy and daddy. My dh nearly cried when he went in and found him covered in sick, it was awful. So we now feel like the worst parents ever. Now my dh has the bug and I think I am getting it, although I have had so much nausea with this pregnancy that it's difficult to tell.

The only good news is that we have a scan date of Dec 5th - hurrah so we are really looking forward to that. I can't wait for this week to be over and hopefully next week we can return back to normal.

GardenAngel4 · 20/11/2007 15:51

josie poor you {{{{hugs}}}. What an awful time. Hope your DS gets better soon. Must have been a real shock. They say things happen in threes so hopefully that's you done for a while. Great about scan!

Josie57 · 20/11/2007 16:02

Thanks Garden Angel. It's spooky how things do often happen in three's. I'm not generally superstitious but I have noticed this a few times.

My midwife expressed surprise at my booking in appointment yesterday that I hadn't had any breast tenderness. Has anyone else not had this? I'm sure by this stage last time I had gone up a cup size which was a relief as I was only a 32A originally I'm really looking forward to getting a cleavage again so am desperate for the booby fairy to wave her magic wand and increase my boob size again . Has anyone else not increased in size yet either? Or perhaps this coincides with the tenderness....

makecakesnotwar · 20/11/2007 16:28

Hello all- not been around due to lack of internet/broadband. Felt like I'd lost an arm. Been quite low as well recently....but nausea seems to be going. I packed up lots of my clothes and underwear this week as NOTHING fits anymore....can't believe there's only one baby!

But there is...had my 12 week scan today (13 weeks on Thursday) and baby was wriggling and squirming then turning it's back. Quite funny- they kept having to poke me in the tummy to get Pip to move. DH was speeshless (with joy I hope). They did all the nuchal stuff/blood tests and my chances of downs are 1 in 11418, and 1 in 22000 for Edwards syndrome. It's really set my mind at rest...will upload new pic when I've figured out my new phone (Blackberry), but ust wanted to let you all know...you're doing a great job of keeping me sane!!!

GardenAngel4 · 20/11/2007 16:33

josie I have had exactly the same! no tenderness and a surprised midwife...am relieved am not alone..I too went from 32A to 36DD!!!! I nearly fell over in M&S when the lady measuring said that!

makecakes great about your scan

debinaustria · 20/11/2007 16:58

Josie - what a rough time you've had, hope they get to the root of the problem with your MIL soon, and I hope you all receover quickly from the bug. I've had that where one of the ds's was sick in his sleep and just carried on, I think sometimes they're just to tired and half asleep ! Don't feel bad - you're not psychic.

makecakes - Sorry you've been feeling low - maybe cold turkey from lack of internet!! Great news about your scan and results. My next scan is next Wednesday, can't wait.

Good news(or maybe not) my appetite has returned after weeks of feeling so sick. I'm still sick but only once today - yippee.Dh is creating pizza and it smells so good.

OP posts:
ernest · 20/11/2007 18:39

that's great. how old are you, makecakesnotwar?

ernest · 20/11/2007 18:42

josie, forgot to add, I know it's pretty grim finding a sick encrusted child, but don't feel guilty! It's not like you knew and deliberately ignored him. It's no fun is it?

I've got antibiotics now for ds2, but obv. won't have an affect in time for tonight so am bracing myself for more agonised screams

debinaustria · 20/11/2007 18:46

Good luck Ernest working through the screams

OP posts:
goingfor3 · 20/11/2007 19:16

Josie57 I'm sorry you are having such a crap time at the moment. I know what you are going through as my mum had heart problems when I was pregnant with DD1 and she had a leaky valve which was replaced with a mechanical one when DD1 was 6 months old. Then she had a heart attack when DD2 was 3 weeks old but now all is well (fingers crossed!). SO far this pregnancy has not brought any new heart problems for her!

makecakesnotwar so lovely to hear you saw your baby today, it must have been such a joy.

sophiewd · 20/11/2007 19:44

Josie - had the bug a couple of weeks ago, not the V bit but couldn't be far from loo, and didn't eat, just make sure you drinl plenty of fluids and i found that the sprts drinks helped.

Gap for us will be 2 years and 5 months between DD and this one.

No tenderness in boobs, and not bigger, didn't expect any as had breast reduction a few years ago and was same for DD.

Booking in appointment for this Thursday, as welll as some weird people who are coming over to check their rooms which they have booked on Saturday and scan on December 13th, a thursday thank goodness, not that I am superstitious or anything.

Have a nice evening everyone, got sis and a friend coming over for their cookery lesson.

debinaustria · 20/11/2007 20:45

Sophie beware of weird guests who come to check their rooms!! We've had some strange guests too!!

What are you teaching your sister tonight?

OP posts:
sophiewd · 20/11/2007 22:48

We had quick chicken chasseur, with rice cooked with onions and stock and leeks,

systemsaddict · 21/11/2007 07:14

Just wanted a quick whinge! I am still feeling sick and tired and it's still hard to get on with everyday life. I shouldn't complain as I was so pleased when those weeks of feeling really rough started to ease off - but I guess I thought I would be feeling completely back to normal very quickly, rather than half better than I was but still struggling. I guess I had 'get to twelve weeks then you'll be fine' in my head and now it feels NOT FAIR that I'm still not! We have a week off work today and haven't so far managed to do anything fun with ds beyond the usual stuff, what with feeling rough and us all having colds. So I feel guilty, too.

OK whinge over, I know I have it v. easy compared to many, just needed to get that off my chest.

Ernest hope you got the translation done and can rest today!

Josie please don't feel guilty about ds waking up in sick, it happens to lots of people. The first time it happened to our ds I was appalled and felt like a completely neglectful mother, but I've now realised he doesn't actually even wake up properly when he's sick in his sleep. Especially if he's ill, he sleeps really heavily. Of course if he's distressed we go up straight away, and we're now careful to go and check if we hear a 'weird cough', but you don't always hear something and if everyone's asleep, what can you do? No harm done, it just makes a nasty mess!

Makecakes congrats on seeing the baby, that's lovely

Gap: there will be 21 months between mine. Seems short to me but I know there are shorter!
