Brrrr, winter definitely here today. Hope you are all wrapped up warm! Have been lunchtime shopping on my annual quest to find a non-chocolate advent calendar (I'm such a child!) and it gets harder every year

Josey, I had my booking in appointment yesterday. The midwife gave me the paperwork for the scan and said I could either call to book it or pop round and make an appointment at the hospital.

I went round since it's handy, and have a scan booked for 12 weeks (about 3 weeks from now).

Totally understand you being keen to get it sorted, and hope you hear something soon. Does sound like it's all very different depending on where you live...

josey · 15/11/2007 14:34

Thank just wondered if anyone had a similar system, its just bugging me everyday waiting for the post to see if anything exciting!

debinaustria · 15/11/2007 14:41

HI everyone, yes having a great time with my Mum here, she's in the garden with the boys now
austriasnow.camstreams.com/
Off out for a meal tonight so I don't need to cook, not been feeling that good these last few days, just so tired again, back to needing afternoon naps - maybe baby's having a growth spurt.

Josey - hope that appointment hurries up.

Deb

It's horrible waiting for your scan date isn't it Josey! I'm in Glasgow so things are slightly different here, we only get One scan so they try to do it slightly later although we are offered nuchal test so they try to see you before 14 weeks.
I went to see the dr when I was about 7 weeks, and she filled in a booking letter to the hospital, I then got a scan date 3 weeks later, for 3 weeks time. So I'll be nearly 13 weeks when I have my scan, next wed - so excited!!
It seems to be about normal up here to have it about 12/13 weeks, whereas reading some of the other posts its seems to be a bit earlier down south.
I hope you get your letter soon!

katyjo · 15/11/2007 15:02

Forgot to add my mw booking is done at the same time as the scan, so haven't really had anything yet! I don't think I'll believe it until I see my little bean! - although not so little if size of me is anything to go by!

GardenAngel4 · 15/11/2007 15:58

josey I had my MW booking in on Tuesday just gone and have been told to wait for a letter in about 2-3 weeks (!) which will give me the phone number to book my scan which could then be another 2 weeks....driving me nuts too....

josey · 15/11/2007 16:08

Im glad im not alone then in waiting for appointments, she did say they were good and I would have appointment in a couple of weeks but to phone if haddnt heard by 4

Katyjo the last hosp I was at was only 12 week scans I have a choice here for a 20 week so going to take it just for the novelty value. Which hosp in Glasgow will you go to, I was born in the Queen Mother I was one of the 1st babies scanned there.

Ernest Im suffering form heartburn badly since last night I hoped the bedtime relationship with gavascon would hold off a little longer.

ernest · 15/11/2007 17:13

sorry for all of you having to wait for appointments and scans. It's so frustrating. Seeing little beanie was so great, it really made it seem real and exciting and I wanted to rush out and tell everyone. It's really not fair that there seems to be so much regional difference as well.

Heart burn - yuk Thought I was doomed, luckily only had it the once.

Any ideas on how we tell our boys? We're telling them on Saturday (which is also ds3 birthday) and I'd like to make it fun and exciting, not just guess what kids, you're going to have a little brother or sister.

goingfor3 · 15/11/2007 17:18

ernest my girls were told when I had to take DD2 to the scan with me. They are really excited.

Upsidedowncake · 15/11/2007 19:52

Josey and others, so with you on the appointment frustration. My letter was sent 2 1/2 weeks ago and I haven't heard anything, so GP and I have been phoning the hospital to find out if everything is OK today.

Get this, there is an answering machine that says, 'there's no one available to take your call. And you cannot leave a message, Good bye.'

What happened to the new customer-focused NHS?

Cos I'm an angry customer - or an impatient patient.

Looney, so sorry about your DP. Bad time of year. [hugs]

debinaustria · 16/11/2007 06:28

Ernest - I'm not sure how to make it exciting - I just told them !! That was exciting enough.
Sorry!!

josey,
My midwife told me to call if I didn't get a letter in two weeks. I did call and she checked the date and phoned me back. However the letter arrived two days later - so I'd say wait the two weeks and then call...

ChinaSurprise · 16/11/2007 10:17

Morning all.
Not much news to add, but just wanted to say re waiting for letters/ scans, I don't think there's anything wrong with giving people/ the system a nudge.
If you've been told it will be two weeks till your letter/ call then I say ring after two weeks - I don't see why you should wait til four before you make your presence felt - after all, right now every week counts, and has different levels of significance etc etc.
I think this is especially true of anyone being treated within the NHS - the whole system is over-stretched/ under-funded and it's far too easy to get swept to one side.
As I've said before - make your voices heard!

josey · 16/11/2007 10:20

Morning Ladies
Thanks to all Aberdeen Hiker thats good to know thank you, I think I have just had to much to worry about and would just like it out of the way now, before I put my foot in it and drop myself in something messy!

Its so cold here today but the sun is shining which is nice. DD starts swimming lessons today I have to go in with her so I thought I had better mow some places

Feeling so much better now fingers crossed it continues.

Ernest I had to tell my DS because Im on my own so much with the kids he was getting worried so it was quiet boring but he was jumping the height of himself.

josey · 16/11/2007 10:21

GO CHINA!!!!! Power to the pregnant ladies

goingfor3 · 16/11/2007 11:32

Morning all,

I know it seems too soon but I have already felt some movements from the baby. It took a couple of days until I was convinced it was movements and am now sure it is. I guess a complete lack of exercise does have benefits if it means slack stomach muscles mean early baby movements!

debinaustria · 16/11/2007 11:57

G43 - That's so exciting, I also am in the slack stomach muscles group so I can't wait!!

I already look about 5 months gone so would hope to feel stuff soon, but I clearly have the sensitivity of mud, as I couldn't feel anything till about 20 weeks all three times Maybe 4th time will be better. Tho I thought that last time.

nh101andhertwinbeans · 16/11/2007 12:57

That's amazing! I have also been thinking I have felt movement a couple of times but thought nah it must be gas or something. But then I thought as there are two in there... maybe it was movement!

And I look about 5 months gone Ernest but then I suppose I have a good excuse!

I am 12 weeks tomorrow based on first scan (12 weeks on Monday based on my own dates) and the sickness is definitely easing.

But I can't get to sleep at night! And my heart is beating at over 90bpm. And when dh wakes me at 6.30am (when he gets up) I can't get back to sleep! No wonder I am tired!

Boobs are still tingly too. Dating scan two weeks today as we are off to Paris next week!

Hope everyone is well.

katyjo · 16/11/2007 16:15

Morning all!

So lovely to hear you were born in the Qm Josey, my ds was born there 19 months ago and I had a really good labour experience so hoping for the same again. Although the pre and post care were not great it is really just Staff shortages.

I would love to have bubs at home this time or at a birthing centre, anyone watch 'House of Babies' on living it was on a few months back, I would love to go there, thought they were wonderful, shame it's in the states!

Does anyone else suddenly feel huge, I'm sure my bumps moved up, not needing to pee so much, but look about 5 months pregnant!!

katyjo · 16/11/2007 16:18

Sorry wrote this this morning but ds turned off the computer! Don't feel so bad that I look big, if everyone else is, but only my second!
x

nh101andhertwinbeans · 16/11/2007 16:19

Hi Katyjo, yes the bump has definitely moved up. It does at about 12 weeks. Mine starts right under my ribcage!

katyjo · 16/11/2007 16:43

Hi Nh, Me too, my pregnancy bible said 14 weeks, but it also said you won't need maternity clothes until week 20, I lasted until week 16 last time, but I am struggling now and not even week 12! My sisters are twins and my Mum keeps saying 'you're big eaarly' and giving me knowing looks. Though my siters are identical and I don't think they run in the family! They are 24 now and fantastic friends, you are going to love having twins they are very special. My mum always found them really easy, they kept each other company and weren't very demanding babies at all, let's hope you find yours the same!

debinaustria · 16/11/2007 18:51

Mine starts under my ribcage too, yet when I lie down I can only feel the bump really low down.I think it's just pushing the big saggy stomach upwards!!

Katyjo I was born there as Mum had eclampsia with her pregnancy pre me, so she was given speciallist care at the QM and loved it they were so good to her, though that was over 30 years ago.

I think my DD has had a drink from the devils cup today all week infact bed time here she come lol
