My bump is definitely rounding up nicely! I guess it is more obviouse because I like tight clothes - I want to look my usual size with a bump on the front rather than a couple of sizes bigger!

Had a really bad scare yesterday morning. I was on the train into London Bridge at about 8am and was quite happily stood up telling DH why I didn't need to sit down, when I suddenly blacked out completely. Luckily we were so crowded together that DH managed to grab me under the arms as my legs buckled, and kicked a couple of people off the nearest seat. I came round after a minute I think but was totally disorientated - I thoguht I was on the floor but was lying across the seats. think DH was more scared than me (apparently my eyes were open but rolled back - yuk!). Everyone was very nice and gave me bottles of water and stuff, but it was awful. I've never ever fainted before. I have got low blood pressure, and not feeling well because of my cold, but it's taught me to always get a seat in future. Anyone else had this problem?

csa · 26/11/2004 13:35

hi raindog, had a near blackout incident at starbucks a few days ago. i too have low blood pressure but have learnt over the years the feeling i get before a blackout happens so i usually manage to avoid it by just holding on to something and staying 100% still till the feeling passes and then sitting down for a long time after. think it was the heat at starbucks this time round that got to me. hope you are feeling better now. is this the first time it has happened to you?

Raindog · 26/11/2004 13:54

Hi csa
Yes - never happened before, although I did get really faint when standing up from sitting for the first trimester. I did feel like I was spinning and luckily said to DH that I was blacking out, but it was like a curtain was drawn over my eyes really quickly so I had my eyes open and couldn't see. I felt okay afterwards - got a cold sweat and a short headache but fine from then on. Luckily I've got next week off and plan to do very little - can't wait!

xoz · 26/11/2004 15:17

Wow Raindog, that must have been a bit scary/weird (maybe embarassing too!) to blackout like that for seemingly no reason. I have had a few "headspin" incidents, (mostly when at toddler dancing class with dd's, but now know not to stand up too quickly after making bridges/tunnels for them to crawl under!). Make sure you tell your midwife/consultant about it next time you see them. They will usually want to know. I hope it doesn't happen again! Have a good rest next week!

xoz · 26/11/2004 15:21

Also my scan went fine this morning. I had probs with baby not being in the "right" spot to get certain pictures too and the sonographer was being quite vicious with the scanner thing to try to move it by diggin it right in! Not comfortable! Thankfully it moved and so she got the necessary shot. We didn't find out the sex. We like the surprise at the end, so now it's wait and see, and start figuring out some names! Anyone else started down that FUN road yet???

csa · 26/11/2004 17:05

yes. dh got a book out of the library last week and it was huge. it was a reference book so we had only 1 night to look at it. believe me - i wished i knew the sex of the baby then so that would have at least eliminated half the book! anyhow, got 2 lists but nothing really jumped out. wait and see i guess nearer the time.

bronniemuldoon · 26/11/2004 18:34

Hi all, we had our scan yesterday too (it's been a busy week for everyone it seems). It took 2 hours and we had to go in 4 times to get all the measurements/checks done as the baby wasn't in the right position. Apparently my bladder was too full so I had to partially empty it (oh the agony!) plus having a braxton hicks (weird as I had no idea) so everything was in the wrong place including the placenta. Luckily it was all fine in the end. So no return visit necessary. Feeling like a party pooper now as we did ask the sex and none of you guys have! Apparently it's a girl although can't be 100% sure as sometimes the boys bits are tucked away. So not going to buy anything pink just yet and we'll definitely have some boys names in reserve! We haven't even had the name conversation yet. We couldn't agree on anything last time so we've been putting it off as long as poss!

Raindog, the blacking out thing sounds nasty. Hope you didn't have too many after effects. You'll have to turf everyone off the seats next time

strawberry · 26/11/2004 18:44

Lots of lovely scan news...and here's some more.

It's a boy! As suspected from nuchal scan, confirmed today with 99% certainty. Everything else fine. Still measuring ahead of LMP dates, this time 10 days. I guess by the time I've gone overdue then i'll be back at my due date! Baby gave us a little wave and DS waved back!

Naming DS2 will be tricky as both love DS1's name. All else feels like a compromise. Some serious research needed.

Have a good weekend everyone.

csa · 29/11/2004 09:03

need some advice ladies. thinking of treating dh and myself to a 3-day trip to paris on the eurostar in feb. do you think i'm mad going at 7 months? really can't recall how i felt when i was 7 months last time round (did remember that i felt like an elephant at 8 months tho). so, especially all those 2nd pg around, what do you think? probably need to book this week as will be my xmas prezzie for dh.

Seabird · 29/11/2004 10:22

Hi all - so glad to hear scans have been going well and congrats to Bronnie on your girl (probably) and Strawberry on your boy. Hopefully I'll be joining you in knowing the sex tomorrow, although I'm already fairly certain it's a boy. I know what you mean about names, Strawberry - we'll be the same if it's another girl (especially as dh has already vetoed some of my admittedly quite out there suggestions).

csa - I think it's a great idea about going away on eurostar, I'm sure you'll be fine. In fact we're thinking of doing the same thing but going to Bruges. I've got a week's sunshine with my mum & dd booked for the last week the airlines will take me in Jan, then dh and I thought it would be nice to get away for a long weekend just the 2 of us before all travelling is impossible for some time! (Mind you I've already booked a week in Portugal for Sept - always good to have something to look forward to )

strawberry · 29/11/2004 10:36

csa - make sure you book a central hotel so that you can easily go back for a rest. City breaks can involve a lot of walking and being on your feet. Also taxis are a nightmare in Paris

We went to Paris in January a few years ago and it was very cold for sightseeing. It was quiet though. Plenty of cafe stops for hot choc and cake!

Bruges is sooo lovely! We went for New Year when I was 6m pg with DS1. It is possibly the most romantic city we have visited and it snowed on New Years Eve - perfect. Lots of lovely choc and cake shops.

orangina · 29/11/2004 10:53

congrats everyone on their scans and knowing what to expect in April! I don't think a trip to Paris in February is mad at all..... I'm planning a few weeks of r&r in the sunshine at the end of January/early Feb, and although I'll be over the prescribed 28 weeks, things have so far (fingers crossed) gone smoothly, so I'll get that letter from my GP/MW and take off! I think having time off to look forward to must be good for everyone, expecially mum and bump....! The only thing about Paris is that I would constantly be longing for delicious forbidden foods, but perhaps your self control is greater than mine!

orangina · 29/11/2004 10:55

and by the way, there is a fantastic (rather chi chi) cafe on the rue de rivoli (near the Louvre I think?) called Angelinas that does the BEST hot chocolate.... you get a jog of pure melted chocolate and then some cream to soften it up a bit. Perfect.

bronniemuldoon · 29/11/2004 13:52

Congratulations Strawberry on your boy. Now I don't feel like the odd one out .

csa - we went to Paris in February of this year and had a fab time. It will probably be quite cold (just take lots of hats/scarves) and we did lots of walking but that's because we were trying to see everything and got lost a few times! You can get 24 hr tickets for the opentop bus tours which is great as it takes you right to the doorstep of each place (so not too much walking involved and you still get to see everything). And I would definitely second Orangina - Angelina's is a bit of an institution and if you worship at the altar of chocolate it has to be experienced! Would also recommend a trip on the Seine at night - it was lovely with all the buildings lit up and then we went for a scrummy meal. You'll have a great time.

aprilmeadow · 29/11/2004 14:06

Hello Ladies - havent been on much, but have just spent a good long while catching up on how everyone is doing.

We had our 20 week scan today and found out that we are having a boy. The first image on the monitor was of his bits, so there was no hiding the sex!! Good job we wanted to know!

I think the idea of a break is great, we have booked a weekend away with 2 sets of friends and are off to CenterParcs in Eleveden at the beginning of February. Not quite as fancy as a trip on Eurostar.

Hope the rest of the scans go well.

Take care

csa · 29/11/2004 14:08

right, i'm convinced. just need to get the ok from my boss with regards to holidays and then it's paris - first stop : Angelina's!!!

csa · 29/11/2004 14:10

aprilmeadow, is elveden the one in suffolk? if so, it's fab. make sure you bring swimming stuff.

aprilmeadow · 29/11/2004 14:18

i think so......... Not been to that one before, we normally go to Longleat as its only about 45mins from where we live. Should be fun as we are going with my best friend who is also pregnant (8weeks at the mo).

aprilmeadow · 29/11/2004 15:21

Those of you that have had your 20 week scan...... Did any of you get told you need a scan at 32 weeks due to the placenta being low lying????

Not too worried, at least i get to see 'Jack' again before the birth!

bronniemuldoon · 29/11/2004 20:18

Hi Aprilmeadow. We nearly had to go back for a 32 week scan due to low lying placenta but apparently I had too full a bladder and was also having a braxton hicks (weird as couldn't feel a thing!). By the 4th attempt (we were there for 2 hours...) it had moved so we don't have to go back but I've had friends who've had the same thing and then it's moved the next time they've gone. At least you get to see the baby again (congrats on your boy by the way!)

Merlin · 29/11/2004 20:25

Hi all - got my scan tomorrow so hopefully will have good news to report. How come everyone seems to be told the sex? Here in Bournemouth they wont tell you so you just have to hope that you catch a glimpse of something!!

xoz · 29/11/2004 22:43

Hi everyone, lots of lovely scan news. Congrats to all who know what they're having. Seems that lots of boys are the current order of the day! We would like a boy, but want to wait for the surprise at the end.
csa - Paris sounds great!!! We went for the weekk between Christmas and New Year 3 years ago now (with only dd1 in tow at that stage< but dd2 could bave been named Paris if we'd followed the Beckhams logic in naming children ) As others have said it was cold, but really nice because most places wwere not too busy. I don't think you're crazy at all. Go and enjoy!!!
aprilmeadow - I had that with dd1, by the time I went back for the follow up scan the placenta had moved up and out of the way so therw was no problem. They told me this happens in the majority of cases. Good luck to you with it.
We're off to Nuremberg on Thursday to go to the Christmas markets and drink a bit of Gluhwein (not too much though!!), so probably won't be around for a bit. Have a good week everyone. All the best to everyone still with scans to come.

leander · 30/11/2004 05:51

So lovely to hear about all the scans and it is certainly a happy time on this thread . It seems there are quite a few boys out there. I don't know how some of you are not tempted to find out. You have more will power than me! Mine is on Monday, in between arrival of huge load of donated baby stuff from a friend, going to Ikea and the floor being sanded and varnished. At least I have no time to be nervous! I think I am finally starting to show , but still look small for 20 weeks. Anyone else bump obsessed?
