Iron tablets should be taken on a full stomach otherwise they make you feel sick! If you want to splash out, Spatone is great - it's naturally iron rich mineral water that's easily digested, and readily absorbed when taken with orange juice.

mixedmama · 13/11/2007 11:27

that is nice of you to offer to help out your mate especially since you are preg yourself.

my boss is ok really and not at all scary, but you know when you say soemthing you can just see they dont understand in their eyes.

Amani · 13/11/2007 12:06

Awen - agree with you on the chocs - go for it....:-)
think I'm feeling a little 'weak' too.....

MM - i get you, luckily i kind of work on my own in the office now as it's actually officially closed, i'm just archiving old paperwork and tidying up loose ends before i go off on mat leave, 10 days left after today, hooray! i finish on the 19th dec, you?

then hopefully bubs will arrive on time and i shd get 5 ds-free days when he is still in nursery and i can lounge around at home.
thoughts on driving ds to nursery in pjs??
could be embarrassing as i have to carry him in still...

beller · 13/11/2007 12:38

Naetha -good luck with the kitchen..how long will it be out of action for? xx

madmouse - Babybel stopped while i was swimming.then started up again as soon as i got back to my desk

Mixedmamma - If youre ill youre ill..there isnt much they can do about it...throw up over the keyboard, then they will listen!! (((((mixedmamma)))) hope you feel better xx

Fluffy - Hope you manage to catch up in Glasgow..take it easy though xx

KAty1 - bum engaged[hm] sounds painful!! good luck for youre friend xx

Quick question! Anyone else getting a pressure type pain in their pubic region when they walk been like this for a couple of days now....loosening up on pelvis??
xx

Amani · 13/11/2007 12:46

Beller - I've been having pains in the pubic region since last week, sure I've read somewhere it's all to do with ligaments losening up.

Sorry if this is too much info: but when needing the loo, does anyone find if they 'hold' themselves and then go to the loo, as they are emptying themselves it hurts?

OP posts:
mixedmama · 13/11/2007 13:17

Thanks naetha... someone on the Dec thread suggested it may be the tablets and spatone so am going to take one tonight and tomorrow AFTER breakfast and see how I feel, if i still dont get on and it seems to be them will go and get the spatone.

amani - i wouldnt say it hurts more it sort of aches.

Amani · 13/11/2007 13:22

I've had it a few times where I'm like 'ahhhhhhhhh' whilst sitting on the toilet seat....

OP posts:
beller · 13/11/2007 13:28

yeah i would say that Amani...try not to hold it though to be fair...was tld that can lead to UTI? Although sometimes you must!! Or could be messy x

AngelKG77 · 13/11/2007 13:33

Good morning all!!! (or I guess afternoon rather - but I haven't yet made it out of my pajama's....) Sorry to be slow on catching up, and know I won't on all, but have enjoyed skimming through all your weekend news. And thanks for all the welcome wishes/congrats! Few little notes...

Had our 30 week scan yesterday afternoon - (I was diagnosed with lupus and sjogren's syndrome in July so we're getting weekly MW checks and now bi-weekly ultrasounds for the rest of the pregnancy...the main concerns being the possibility of intra-uterine growth delay and/or congenital heart block...) As of yesterday, she's a little above average weight - Hooray!!! (I'll chalk that up to my indulging in chocolate daily ), her heartrate is good - Hooray again!!! and my BP has dropped - so three cheers and we're good for another week!!!

susiemj - no, I'm not a teacher, DH and I are both accountants...though I did actually teach preschool in San Diego for 3 years while taking a break from university...

fluffy - I hate bananas too -YEEECH!- try upping your orange juice intake, it's high in potassium too & will help with leg cramps...or at least it's been working for me! Oh and might be able to make it for a coffee tomorrow night...if so, i'll be the massively confused looking lady with a giant belly bulge bumping into things and likely late and out of breath...

madmouse - I'm so impressed by the cycling!!! I pretty much fall over just trying to walk across the living room right now!!!

awen - I'm with you on the permanently knackered & hungry train...luckily i'm not working now, so I can sleep and feed most of the day... Poor DH is starting to think I've been replaced by an alien!

ayrshirelolo - You must've read my mind on the fish and chips last night - only I went even further and added some yummy onion rings and an entire box of lemon cake slices...oops!

mrsmcj - Am so impressed by your catchups!!! As to the Glasgow/NYC contrast - well, it is interesting the things I miss/am surprised not to miss... Though I actually grew up in Vermont and moved to California when I was 18, three years in Northern Cali and then 7 years in San Diego. I just moved from San Diego to Dallas, Texas last August, and then from Dallas to NYC in January (work related moves...ugh!) So I wasn't that fond of NYC to begin with - I think it's a lovely place to visit, but the reality of living there is not nearly so nice... But ahh, my apartment in San Diego one block away from the beach...That was nice!!! I told DH I'm giving Glasgow a year before passing judgement...

naetha - my bump gets the hiccups daily too - think it's more noticible after I have my coffee or chocolate fixes...

beller - I've got the pressure thing too - sometimes it feels as though she's trying to find an escape hatch hidden somewhere along the bottom or side of my bump!!! And a bit of pelvic pain too - guessing a combo of the ligaments stratching and perhaps some sciatica on the left hip? Oh well...in the home stretch now...

Happy belated birthdays to lulubump and bettymama!!!

And happy thoughts/wishes to everyone...

Last thought...DH is in a bit of a panic as to what to do/gift me for my 30th birthday later this month...It was supposed to be a wild girls weekend in Vegas, but now that I'm pregnant that doesn't really work so well... And he's at a loss having been over in the US for the bulk of his adult male life - ie through uni & after...so we're both just settling into life here/exploring the area... Anyone have any suggestions as to a good way to celebrate it???

ayrshirelolo · 13/11/2007 13:52

Hello guys!
Fluffy / AngelKG77 I'm REALLY PISSED OFF! coz i can't make tomorrow night - got an anti natal appointment late afternoon at the local GPs (ie in Ayrshire! - 30 miles away from work in Glasgow) and won't have time to get back for a coffee... and i LOVE grassroots, used to have a wee flat round the corner in my student days and the cakes are fab! Sorry!!
Fluffy if you're here for any length of time or up again i'll defo see you then!
Wee wave to everyone else, at work and don't have time to say much else!
lolo xx

beller · 13/11/2007 14:49

Angelkg77 - Hmmmmmmm not sure...maybe a pamper w/e with your mates? Not the same i know ( i love vegas too!), or maybe defer vegas for a year..and hubbie can have lo?
Great explanation with the trying to find escape hatch....think babybel is too

Angechica · 13/11/2007 14:56

hi all m/wife says i need to lay off sweet things again. wish they would jsut sort it out and give me a GTT instead of waverin.

having a very "down" week this week ... sorry to be a miseryguts!

not good with DH he actually offered to go away for a bit as he thinks he is making me so unhappy. Silly boy tha't the last thing I want. I think he is from the next galaxy never mind from Mars right now.

LilyLoo · 13/11/2007 15:03

afternoon all angelkg my dp the same he has no idea what to get me it's my 30th next Mon. I haven't given him any ideas so can't wait but he has said he is really stuck ! But i hope it is something good as i took him to Rome for his! Will let you know.
Anyone had ketones in their urine. Just been to see the midwife and she says i am not eating enough but i think i am eating normally. She said it was a very stong reading for them and it's what you would get on the atkins diet. It's when the body is trying to break down muscle ? Any advice.
Hope everyone else ok x

mixedmama · 13/11/2007 15:11

Angechica >>>

Hope I done that right

Naetha · 13/11/2007 15:14

Lilyloo - ketones are proteins aren't they? That either says pre-eclampsia to me, or I've had high ketones when I've had a UTI.

LilyLoo · 13/11/2007 15:23

ooh right Naetha she didn't mention anything like that but just thought i would ask as she is new and i have never had this before.

madmouse · 13/11/2007 15:30

Ketones are not the proteins that you would find with pre eclampsia, they do show that you are burning the wrong fuel. It will depend a lot on what you consider to be eating normally. Are you eating plenty of bread/pasta/potatoes/rice meat/cheese/pulses/eggs?

Maybe speak to mw about what you eat during the day and see what she says.

Amani · 13/11/2007 15:36

Angechia - have that Galaxy bar and hope you feel better soon hun.

OP posts:
LilyLoo · 13/11/2007 15:42

Thanks madmouse that was more along the lines of what she was saying. Could it be down to the fact that i hadn't eaten since breakfast ? This was lunchtime.
Angechica hope you feel better soon

madmouse · 13/11/2007 15:51

Lilyloo, I doubt it. It takes your body a bit longer than that to produce ketones. Ketones are normally present when you eat no carbohydrates at all for a while. If you are concerned about this (and you may not have to be if you feel fine) speak to your GP.

LilyLoo · 13/11/2007 15:56

Right madmouse that would explain the atkins diet reference then. Not sure why though i always have cereal and toast and usually have portion of carbs with teal also. I feel fine will prob just see then what happens at next visit. I am having my homebirth assessment next Sunday so will ask if they will check it again then. Thanks Madmouse

barristermum · 13/11/2007 16:09

Hey folks, sorry it has been so long since I posted. I have tried to catch up but it was more than a 2 week gap and it took me nearly an hour just to get to Nov . In the end I was never going to post again if I tried to read everything so if anything dramatic has happened I should know about or there is a meet up planned please just let me know now!
I have been doing a 2 week trial on the Isle of Wight and decided to stay over mid week as the daily transportation of my immense bulk there and back just became too much for me. I don't often stay over for a trial and it was a bit strange - missed DH loads and that's been exacerbated as no sooner do I get back then he is sent for just over a week to Colombia for work. Am missing him SO much and also feeling generally nervy that he needs a personal bodyguard and armoured car there - gulp! He's been really good and called every day and he'll be back tomorrow so will calm down and chill out then. On the plus side my folks came to stay at the weekend for Mum's birthday so wasn't lonely, and in fact my mother is a far more approprpiate companion for necessary watching of Strictly Come Dancing (Go Aleesha and bravo Kenny for AMAZING pase Doble and V Waltz!) so that was lovely.
How is everyone - feeling as huge and ungainly as me? Most people seem to say I look ready to drop now which when I have another 9 weeks of expansion to go is daunting frankly. (Having said that, a police officer at court the other day said "I wondered if you were pregnant" - clearly someone heading for detective!)
Had a doctors appt last week - despite the gtt coming back negative they seem to want to disbelieve that as my growth scan showed monster baby in the 97th projected centile - double gulp. So more scans and appts. I know I should feel pleased they are monitoring me carefully but making the appts around work stresses me out and then talk of early inductions and intolerances etc stresses me out and I'd rather just sail on with head in sand!
Anyway, am in London on trial all this week so things as little less frenetic.
Fluffy - you are so close to me - FANTASTIC! Wd be lovely to meet up and am likely to be around next week poss even during day tues-wed if any good? Things can change at last minute but should be possible. Do you go to doctors at the Heathfielde practise too? Think they are lovely there.
Anyway - lovely to be back - missed you all - can someone do a quick Mrs McJnr-type precis - how is fruitful - out of hsp yet? Has gingeme's dh faced the cruellest cut? are everyone's lo ok? Has Mrs McJnr sold house yet? Don't want to know if anyone started maternity leave yet - am actually starting to find the pace increasing and will be going at least until Xmas !

beller · 13/11/2007 16:13

((((((((((((Angechica )))))))))))))))
Hope youre feeling better soon hun xx

Lulubump · 13/11/2007 16:14

Angechica - big hugs! Bless your DH, he probably thinks leaving you alone for a bit would make you happier! Why have you been having a down week , is it hormones, or has something happened?

Lilyloo - hope you get the issue with Ketones sorted out. Maybe try and have some carbs with every meal - they can be healthy, wholegrain ones

Speaking of 'healthy' eating - I have turned into a monster, and am glad I'm not the only one scoffing my way through the kitchen cupboards. Yesterday I bought a box of 6 mince pies (on offer for 50p at Co-op), gave DH two and ended up eating the rest myself, slowly and one-by one, lovingly heated in the microwave and squirted with custard.

Was quite when I saw the empty box today, and when I read this afternoon that apparently the equivalent increase in calorie intake needed to be healthy while expecting a baby is the same as one wholewheat tuna sandwich.

What am I having then - a baby elephant????
