Hi Fifi medical but not obs so can only guess..will almost certainly NOT be overnight stay - is not common but not uncommon IFYKWIM ....are you anaemic as well or is it just the iron - you will lose blood and iron duting delvery and post natal especially if breast feeding so really best to top up now and save any emergency afterwards with babe in tow good luck don't panic should not be more than few hours

Wizzska · 17/10/2007 14:27

Claraq - ditto.

RE: packing bag whilst in labour - my antinatal teacher says we might want to clean the house whilst in labour. Er, yeah right!

claireybee · 17/10/2007 14:41

Claraq-I suspect that will be closer to the reality for me too!
My bathroom only gets proper cleaned every couple of weeks but wiped around quickly whenever i feel it needs it, usually just before i get in shower or while i'm giving dd her bath-find it very hard to remember to go in there specifically to clean!

fifisworld · 17/10/2007 14:41

Thanks everyone
The midwifes just rang back and ive got to go in twice a week starting friday and get a iron drip.
Aparently all the iron tablets ive been taken have done absolutley nothing at all, my iron levels dropped even further.
She said it will take about a hour to do, i feel so relieved now. And hopefully if my iron levels rise i ownt feel as shattered all the time

Amani · 17/10/2007 14:42

oh my gosh - think I'm turning into my mum then if I clean my bathroom everyday...

Alice182 · 17/10/2007 14:48

re extra iron - Have you tried spatone - you can get from holland and baratt, it is these little sachets of iron rich water, which is meant to be really easy to absorb, I read about it on another thread and it doesn't have so many horrid side effects like floradix etc - may be worth trying as well as drip????

fifisworld · 17/10/2007 14:51

Ive tried everything, ive got to stop my iron tablets and see what the drip does, i might have to have it increased to 3 times a week but they will see how it goes to start with having it twice a week.
Also on the subject of cleaning, i clean my bathroom and kitchen from top to bottom everyday, and have a general tidy through most days as well.
I think i have ocd with bleaching especially flash spray with bleach, i cant get enough of it

claireybee · 17/10/2007 14:58

Don't worry- I would actually love to be someone who proper cleans everyday! I'm always jealous when i go to peoples houses and they are obviously very clean and tidy people! It doesn't come naturally to me though, DD leaves a trail of destruction in her wake and DH is actually the messiest person i have ever come across so even when i do make the effort i feel like i'm fighting a losing battle!

Amani · 17/10/2007 15:03

Fifi - snap about the flash spray with bleach...thought I was the only crazy one.

becklespookle · 17/10/2007 15:06

Fifi, sorry about your iron levels, relief to know that the treatments are quite short though, even if they are a couple of times a week. Pregnancy does wonderful things to us doesn't it?!
Just had a call from my Docs to say that my bloods are back and I am slightly anaemic so it is onto the iron tablets for me, receptionist warned me they may upset my tummy... lovely.
As for cleaning I confess that I hoover downstairs most days, dust a couple of times a week and although I only do the bathroom 'properly' once a week I do clean the sink and toilet most days too. Don't get me wrong though, I am not an overly tidy person, I just like things clean!

mixedmama · 17/10/2007 15:12

I am trying to reinvent myslef as a domestic goddess... altho I couldnt even manage half of what you guys do before i had children never mind with...

i try (try being the operative word here) to wipe down the kitchen every day, but that is about the extent of it really. So am a slob really.

mixedmama · 17/10/2007 15:14

Oh and Fifi sorry to hear about the transfusionns but at least it sounds relatively straight forward (if that is at all possible)

mixedmama · 17/10/2007 15:21

i just bought the weight watchers magazine... ahh plans plans plans

dundeemarmalade · 17/10/2007 15:22

a friend of mine has a copy of the 1960s 'f##k housework' on her kitchen wall. i wouldn't go that far, but so long as nobody gets sick that's good enough for me .
i sometimes send the ironing out cos it's the one thing i absolutely HATE going and dh never ever does it, which is v annoying as he actually generates far more of it than i do.

Amani · 17/10/2007 15:30

actually i've just given up with ironing most things

i put every thing in the cupboard and iron on a 'when needed basis'

mixedmama · 17/10/2007 15:31

i never ever do ironing.... i buy things that dont need ironing and put away from tumble dryer and then we (meaning DH) irons as we need it if it needs it. soooo lazy.

fifisworld · 17/10/2007 15:39

Thats what i do as well, wash and hang the clothes up and then iron them as we need them, i hate ironing

becklespookle · 17/10/2007 16:02

I love ironing.

Lucky as there is always a massive pile of it needs doing! Never seem to get on top of it all though as I don't do any for a couple of days and then there seems to bee a couple of hours worth to do at a time!

suey2 · 17/10/2007 16:20

I am afraid we have a cleaner
5 hours once a week. She completely blitzes the place and does all the ironing (my absolutely least favourite thing- particularly with DH's penchant for 100% cotton) Will give things a wipe down in the meantime, but I am definitely a dirty slapper compared with some of you guys!

Because he earns so much more than me, I don't contribute ot the mortgage, but I pay for the cleaner and restocking the wine cupboard. When we move and I go back to work, hopefully I will be able to contribute more as my business should have stabilised.

Re lists and hospital bags. Moving next week so hope to get oragnised after that. I don't like to make too much of a list just because if I don't manage to do what is on the list, I tend to feel like a failure.

My post-baby plan is really only to establish a routine, work on the BF and have some time for DH so he doesn't feel too left out. I would also like to get out for a walk every day with the buggy after the first week or so and make sure I have filled the house with healthy food so I am not tempted to gorge when knackered. I hope that that will be enough to slowly lose the weight: but then as a first timer I am totally working in the dark!

Wizzska · 17/10/2007 16:21

Washing and ironing are a nightmare. I hate all the constant sorting of clothes but at least I can do the ironing in front of the telly at weekends.

Lizzer · 17/10/2007 16:37

Ah, glad I'm not the only non-ironer, was beginning to get a bit scared with the lists being posted. Though only cos I'm jealous Its strange because I come from a clean, tidy and organised family but am not myself. Dp would love it if everything was organised, he's bordering OCD and loves files

Lol, dundee - 'as long as no-one gets sick' I agree, good for the immune system and all that

I'm going to have to chance the maternity bag not being packed til we move house in 2 weeks... I have, however, packed 4 crates of house stuff today and 2crates for charity shop [proud emoticon]

I need to get some baby stuff soon, I think I'll need a list for that, good job mn has plenty of advice on the matter
Ordered pushchair and carseat though - yippeee!!!

Claireybee, I'm also under consultant led care, it sucks. I really hope I don't have to stay in long after birth, apparently just until feeding is established and he has a wet nappy (kidney probs) But even if all is well then you have to wait around to be 'signed out' which might be hours

Sorry to hear you're feeling so tired Fifi, hope the iron drip works for you....

Insy, to answer your question about the decorating, dp decided that we could afford proffesional decorators after all All we need now is the bathroom plumbed in and the kitchen to arrive, the plasterers to finish downstairs and we're in!! (Cutting it fine slightly!)

Mixedmama, did you not get some strange looks buying ww mag?! Very organised though

mixedmama · 17/10/2007 16:50

No weird looks....

Just got a random email from someone at work selling Joe Cocker tickets in Prague in Dec. My dad is a big fan, so I have bought them.... plus my folks were planning a mini break anyway and it is their anniversary at end of November.

insywinsyspider · 17/10/2007 19:53

oohh suey2 at cleaner for 5 hours a week - our cleaner was only for 2 and was rubbish, apparently good cleaners are hard to find..

so glad I'm not the only slob! I saw a sign once that I wish i'd bought that said 'you are welcome to look at the dust but please don't write your name in it' pretty much sums up my house somestimes!

I'm another one who enjoys ironing - its a legitamate excuse to stand in front of the telly!

Lizzer - good news about decorators, takes some of the stress out of it all and keeps you out of hospital!

Fifi - really hope the drip works for you, at least its only an out patients app

insywinsyspider · 17/10/2007 19:56

and an important question - anyone involved in insurance or mortgages?? I've just been refused life assurance for a remortgage (can't get mortgage without it) the only things I had to declare were pregnancy and PND so I figure it must be on grounds of PND feel really upset about it, I stopped taking medication in March and have been really well, I thought I was doing the right thing for the family but know it seems I might stop us getting a mortgage... can they do this??

I need to ring them in the morning to find out the details but worried I'll just cry on the phone being hormonal and all that!

PuppyDogsTails · 17/10/2007 23:30

Hi everyone, sorry insy I dont know why they've refused your insurance, can you ring and ask?
My dh has finally got a job, Its only for a month but its nice to have an income, and Im getting loads of stuff done now hes not under my feet
I have been told that youy have a right to have a home birth even if you are under consultant led care, my mw is lovely and very keen to support me to do this even though Im under consultants because of my depression and my pelvis possibly being wonky.
Frankly so much of what the consultant has said about my medication is wrong or outdated, and the hoo ha about my X rays that I really really dont trust them anymore.
Dont know if you remember but I broke my pelvis years ago, so dr wants to see pictures. I was originally told "may well need a ceasarean" which has now changed to "cant see a problem unless massively distorted, and youd know about that", without any new information about it, I was promised an MRI scan if they hadnt found out by 32 weeks, its 30 now and they havn't found the old x rays having alledgedly been looking since I was 18 weeks. MW says consultant has now gone to Nepal for a month, so Im hoping something gets sorted soon. Obviously I will have a hosp birth if anything is likely to be a problem about this, but as I say I reallly cant trust these people.
Oh and just to make things complete, the plumber who has been promising to come every week since the beginning od September to put in central heating has still not arrived. im cold now and have visions of shivvering around an electric heater with a baby, or of having pipes and plasterwork all over the house then... aargh
Still, lots can happen in 10 weeks.. I hope..
