X posted - RG I know what you mean about the food thing. DH and I have this thing about left over chinese I really like special sweet and sour but can never eat it all. If I leave if the fridge for later he always pinches the prawns! It seems petty but it really winds me up .

RGPargy · 25/10/2007 10:12

LOM - Glad i'm not the only one that gets wound up about silly things.

Have you all pressed F5 btw to reveal the new emoticons??

OP posts:
choudru · 25/10/2007 11:04

Jetgirl - like Loopy, cbeebies is part of my childcare routine and I would stuggle without it! I refuse to because I don't just leave DS to watch it all day - I sit with him and chat to him about what's on. So I kind of get to relax by putting my feet up and lying down, but I have to be prepared to deal with the barrage of comments and questions.

Don't feel neglectful - IME kids love interaction but it can be something as simple as chatting with them, reading them stories, drawing pictures together. All lovely and non-energy consuming tasks I can't remember the last time I did anything as energetic as baking with DS - I leave that to DH at the moment.

I guess I'm lucky because DS still likes a good afternoon nap - at least an hour and sometimes 1.5 hours if he was up early, or if he's tired from toddler group. So I nap at the same time.

He's more rowdy towards the end of the day - around 4/5ish by which time I can start counting the time down for DH to come home and take over!

for you about MIL. I know what you mean about wanting to enjoy potentially your last normal weekend. Have been the same here. Let's face it - life is about to be turned upside down for a while so it's natural to want to relish the calm before the storm!

Silk - I can't believe you cooked all that in one day! I should follow your example. Might have to visit the butchers today then and get stuck in.

BTW - when you come to eat the frozen meals, do you defrost first and then heat up or do you just put them in the oven t start with?

Pixie - good luck with sorting out your family hassles. When I go into labour, we are going to call MIL who should set off asap from lancs to get here to Leeds. It will take her minimum 1.5 hours I am guessing so DH will have to wait with DS until she arrives. Which means I will be on my own until DH can hand DS over to her. I am not thinking about it too much because there isn't much I can do about it. Not ideal though and I do feel for you.

Sarahlou - If I get too many people coming to visit me in hospital I am going to ask the midwives to say there are already too many people with me. The hospital have a limit of 4 per bed. As for you getting annoyed with MIL, I remember when DS was born, sometimes I felt like my precious little darling belonged to the whole world and that made me extremely protective over him. Wanted to shout 'he's mine all mine so back off!' at times. I didn't want to share him with anyone but DH and my mum. Funny in a way because if no-one but us was excited about my children, I would be upset as well! I think we can safely put it down to hormones - not our fault.

Definitely with RG on the ironing. I don't 'do' ironing. DH irons his things as he needs them, as do I. As for DS, most of his stuff doesn't even need ironing really and if it does, I do it when needed. I jsut make sure I hang up all clothes as soon as they are dry and that way they don't seem to crease. My sister irons EVERYTHING - including vests. WTF is all that about?!!

Sorry about your 'early night'

LOM - well done on completing your tasks. And there was you stressing the other day. Good idea about arranging meet up to tempt fate. How's monday for you?

Right, I'm off for a shower and then may take DS for a haircut.

choudru · 25/10/2007 11:07

RG - lurve the emoticons!

I think the hat suits me

RGPargy · 25/10/2007 11:32

Choudru - what is it with some people and doing all the ironing? I think it's ok if you've got work stuff that you need doing or are constantly wearing creasable stuff, but ironing vests??? I dont understand people that iron the teatowels or bedclothes either! Now that's just wrong!! Wrong i tell thee!!

Well i'm still sat here, hair unkempt and unshowered and i'm supposed to be at my mates in half an hour. I'm gonna have to put make up on too!! Cant believe i've not worn any make up for a week. Think i'll have to start making an effort to put some on just so i feel a bit human every day.

Right, deffo dashing now!

OP posts:
littleoldme · 25/10/2007 11:52

Choudru - Monday is fine -have e-mailed you.

Re ironing. I do our ironing which is mostly Dh's work shirts. It's just one of those things he's pants at and he's such a handsome smiley chap I just can't bear the thought of him going to work looking like a refugee.

He's said he'll do all the housey stuff for the first few weeks after Lo arrives. Have decided this means I need to stock up our freezer now. Loving though the sentiment is, he's very much the food is fuel type. I know that if I leave cooking to him I'll be living off a diet of gravy sandwiches ( I kid thee not) and some vegetable concoction which has come to be called farting soup. I'm still not sure how I allowed myself to be wooed by a man whose idea of a romantic dinner was a fish finger sarnie and pot noodle followed by ambrosia rice Oh yes I remember I was an impoverished student . It was that or starve. I find it quite endearing really.

Am sitting here in my Pjs can't even be arsed to get dressed. Might sod the house work and go and watch Top Gun. tom Cruise in his early days with that cheeky smile. Sounds like just the job. Wonder if he can cook. Bet Katie Holmes isn't ever faced with gravy sandwiches.
OMG I'm rambling. Must go and do SOMETHING

berrybliss · 25/10/2007 12:45

Hello ladies quick post as about to move into new house at bloody last!! Woooohooo!

The internet wont be connected until Tuesday so i'm sorry if i miss anymore births.

Just been to my last appointment at Dorchester Hospital before i tranfer.
Went really well, Doctor said all my bloods were stable now and there were no medical reasons against having a HB!!!!![Grin]

Also baby is now 3/5ths woohoo!

Good luck to everyone!!

I'll try and catch up next week but feel it will be imposible after missing so many days... you chatterboxes!!

sarahloumadam · 25/10/2007 13:02

Loving the hats! I could do with a broomstick too the way I have been lately.

LOM - you made me laugh and then you made me go and kick ass! I spoke to trading standards then went back to stupid company and quoted the sale of goods act at them and now they have responded really positively and are getting it all sorted . Thank you.

Choudru - thanks for the tip re visitors, its open visiting at the MLU but think some small fibs may be in order so I feel in control. The MWs did say that if you are asleep they won't disturb you for phonecalls or visitors so I may have to perfect the fake nap too! And glad I am not the only one to feel possessive over the LO . V.Jetgirl re your inlaws!

RG +++ MOT vibes. I hate taking my car in. Ikwym bout making an effort with make-up etc I am sat now still in dressing gown and starting to feel a bit grim. I do iron bedclothes and tea-towels however. It makes them look and feel so nice! My MIL is completely bonkers and irons bath towels and underpants.

Hope your move goes well Berry, see you next week.

silkcushion · 25/10/2007 13:09

Good luck with the move Berry!

LOM - Spermfast!!!! My DH thinks it sounds very nutritious and says he's happy to oblige. I'd read somewhere that prostaglandins were more effectively taken orally. That would keep our DHs happy for a while wouldn't it? Wonder if it would help chronic heartburn.

Choudru- I am giving the wrong impression of myself on here. I am no domestic goddess. In fact I have never cooked and frozen meals before so I haven't a bloody clue what to do when it comes to reheating and eating. Any suggestions welcome please.

RG - I am lucky that my house has a built in fridge freezer in the kitchen so when we moved in our old one went in the utility room. I didn't do the pile of ironing last night cos my back was killing me. But it's glaring at me from the settee as I sit here typing this. I don't iron vests, tea towels and stuff like that. I try to iron bedding cos it is nicer to sleep in but most of the time I can't be bothered. ironing is mostly DHs stuff, a shirt everyday for work and then he changes into t shirt and jeans in the evening. T shirts are really scrumpled if I tumble dry them.

Wtf is wrong with me? I've just written a huge rambling thread about housework!!!!! I don't even do housework I have a cleaner. Think I need my baby to arrive to keep my sanity.

Off for a swim now

FCH · 25/10/2007 13:25

Hello all, and huge CONGRATULATIONS to PinkLady and NYKate. I just knew if I missed a couple of days babies would have arrived, and I am guessing that there are more announcements just waiting to be posted... And good luck to AnnainNZ - positive vibes coming your way...

It is so exciting that after all these months of waiting and worrying that all these babies are arriving (and brilliant that Callum is doing so well too SGK!).

Silkcushion - I am already the last person in my NCT class to have their baby - all the others have arrived and out of 8 first time mums 5 (yes 5!!!!!) were a week or more early!! The really distressing thing is that at my last appointment with the MW she said that there was no sign of the baby attempting to engage, and that it is still lying sideways on, rather than getting into any sort of position where its head might actually present properly, so I think I am not only going to be last, but last by a long way

LOM - question about that mousaka (which I made for my vegitarian aunt a couple of weeks ago, and DH has decided he really likes...) do you freeze the whole lot in an oven dish, or do you just freeze the base and then do the topping fresh? I am a bit inclined to do the latter as I have fairly limited freezer space and so far I have done beef in red wine sauce, lamb stew, creamy chicken and bolognaise on the basis that DH can defrost any of the above and boil rice pasta or potatoes to go with them - which is about the limit of his culinary confidence! By the way - do we get spermfast in strawberry flavour or will it still be salty old socks flavour??

ELB1 - I really sympathise with the in-law situation as I have recently had to have the same conversation with my mum - that no I don't want her arriving before the baby (particularly as we are planning a home birth) and she can stay a couple of days but then she has to go away again to allow us to make the most of DH's paternity leave on our own. Luckily the in-laws are an hour's drive away so will not need to stay... But On the bright side one of the girls from my ante-natal class (baby arrived last week at 38+1 ) was also dreading her inlaws arriving but they have just left and she said that contrary to all expectations they were great!

Jetgirl - where is the chocolate covered mango from? I have been strong on the Wispa front but don't think I can live without some of this (please tell me it's dark chocolate...)

CapeCodder (and ELB1 I think) - funny about men isn't it. My DH was away most of last week when I was 37/38 weeks on a business trip he didn't ever remember to tell me about until the day before he went and couldn't see why that was a problem - also couldn't see why I was bothered that I left him 2 messages asking him to call home one morning and he didn't call back until 7pm. I have come to the conclusion all men are in fact mad. On the other hand the hormone-charged massive bollocking he got at the weekend about this (when he announced on Sunday night that he had a do on Monday evening and wouldn't be home until 10pm at the earliest seems to have produced an improvement as he arrived home yesterday looking sheepish with a list of appointments over the next few weeks he thought he might need to cancel; perhaps some crying might help your end too??

RG - I had no idea you could get frozen mash - is the mixed one nice? This might well be the answer for my culinarily challenged DH...

And finally Berrybliss - congrats on the move - good luck with it and see you next week...

iris66 · 25/10/2007 14:39

Just got back and haven't caught up yet (but will later)
I am suuuch a happy bunny! Soooooo - after a 2hr 40min labour Elliot decided to join us at 827pm on Wed 24th Oct. 8lb 5oz and oozing gorgeosity. All fine and dandy and labour was really good. No syntocinon, no insulin and loads of moving around awesome midwife and my M&S big pants/girdle are just fab! off for cuppa and much breathing in of baby smell. Good luck to anyone else on their way! I'll post later

CONGRATULATIONS Iris, 2 hrs 40 mins and you avoided induction, sounds like it all went brilliantly! Photos when you get the chance!

Loopy - have a breast pump, will give it a go.

Pixiefish · 25/10/2007 15:34

Congrats Iris xxxx

littleoldme · 25/10/2007 15:45

Iris - Congratulations. I'm so pleased you had positive experience after all the worry and uncertainty. Looking forward to the piccies.

Sarah - Glad you managed to to sort. There is never a need to stand for being ripped off. OMG I feel like an episode of Watchdog.

FCH I've frozen moussaka, topping and all, and it's been fine. you just have to makesure it has defrosted properly before you cook it. I always freeze stuff in foil trays so I don't have to wash up. Saves on water you know
LOL at Spermfast flavours. As far as I know it only comes in salty socks flavour although the gourmet range has an added hint of cheese

Anna - what's the time difference down there at the mo? I want to call my mate but don't know if it's 11 or 12 hours ?

LizzieO · 25/10/2007 16:21

Flounder78 · 25/10/2007 16:24

Hi all,

Can believe we have so many November babies already. CONGRATULATIONS to all of those who have had their little ones.
I went for my mode of delivery appointment today to make sure I am still on track for VBAC. All is very well, head down and 3/5 just got to sit tight and wait for things to start to happen. I finish work tomorrow so I can start to enjoy my time off. Although DS also finishes nursery next week so will still have my hands full.

littleoldme · 25/10/2007 16:46

Lizzie - You're right. I'll stop now before it gets out out of hand - I do so love being naughty !

sarahloumadam · 25/10/2007 16:49

Congratulations Iris - wow what a fast labour! Love the name x

JARM · 25/10/2007 16:56

YAY Iris - So chuffed for you!

4 boys... 1 girl... and its not even November!

Sorry I havent been about much today, DD2's 2nd birthday so have spent a lot of the day with her playing!

Been to Homebase twice today for decorating supplies - my dad is here helping so its all good! Also took a wander to the sea front to watch the boats come in and out (we are right next to a massive container port!) and that was really nice.

Freezing cold here today though, but hot chocolate is warming me up nicely! Still not got my wispas - may have to get someone to send me some!

Just waiting for my brother and SIL to arrive, and then we are all having chippy for tea followed by birthday cake! We know how to have a good party HAHAHAHA!

Take care all and will try and catch up later tonight or tomorrow xxx

RGPargy · 25/10/2007 17:46

Oooooooo!!! Congrats to you Iris!!!!! Fantastic!!!!!! Pics please ASAP!!! xxx

LOM - Gravy sandwiches?? Yuk!! LOL @ farting soup!! Your DH sounds charming in his own quirky little way, especially if his culinary skills go as far as fishfinger sarnies and pot noodles! yummy!! Hahahaha @ Salty socks flavour Spermfast! Not sure i like the idea of the gourmet cheese version tho.

Berry - good luck with the move! See you next week

Sarah - glad you kicked ass today. It's so satisfying when you actually get something done isn't it. Thanx for the ++++ MOT vibes but unfortunately Victor failed (Yes, my car has a name - it's Victor the Vauxhall Vectra). It's only a couple of minor things and i'll get them sorted out next week. Thankfully DP's best mate is a mechanic at the garage so i know i wont get ripped off. I just cannot bring myself to iron teatowels and kingsize bed sheets/quilt covers. Just them being clean and smelling nice is enough for me! Each to their own tho, and all that

Silk - Think I'd prefer crusty Gaviscon to crusty Spermfast for heartburn!! It sounds ideal that you've got your spare freezer! That's something i need. DP keeps talking about getting another freezer for the shed - to keep his fishing bait in! eewww! Hope you enjoyed your swim!

FCH - The carrot & swede mash is really nice! I used to have it quite a bit when i was low carbing as a nice substitute for mashed potatoe. I think generally Aunt Bessie stuff does tend to be really nice. i've never had anything horrible from them yet! Haven't tried the ordinary mash tho coz DP is in charge of mashing the spuds.

Loopy - I think i can bear 5-10 seconds of discomfort whilst baby latches on. I so want to do this! I also agree about not going into hospital at 36+4 or whatever. I dont think 2 or 3 days would make that much difference would it?

Anna - good luck with the pump!

Jarm - chips and cake sounds like a fabbie dinner combination! If you're looking for Wispas, try HERE. They sell them in boxes too!

Well i went to my friend's today for a chat, which was nice. I got soooooo hungry when i was there tho. My tummy was rumbling all over the place and she must have heard it but didn't offer me anything to eat Thing is, she's always been the sort of person to buy EXACTLY what she needs to feed her and the kids for the week - nothing more, nothing less so i didn't feel i could say "got anything to eat?". But then she told me how she'd got a box of 48 Mars Bars for £8 and i was practically dribbling over the floor! Still, i had to leave shortly after anyway to take Victor for his MOT so got some crisps while i was waiting lol.

One thing i've noticed is how much my eating habits have changed since i've stopped work. When i was at work, i would have a bagel for breakfast, then mini cheddars at about 11, then lunch, then a few biscuits at about 3pm, then some fruit on the train on the way home. I dont know how i fitted it all in! Now i'm lucky if i remember to eat lunch! I have breakfast and then that's it til dinner time, with a few biccies in between normally. I think it's because i'm not bored rigid at work.

Anybody else's eating habits changed dramatically?

OP posts:
FCH · 25/10/2007 17:48

Iris - congratulations - that is such brilliant news, particularly after all that worry! Can't wait to see the pictures, I am feeling really broody today...

littleoldme · 25/10/2007 18:04

Rg - The thing that makes me laugh about DH is he is so good at everything he tries. He just doesn't cook very well.

Sounds like you were very restrained at your friend's house. think I would have ended up knawing my own arm off.

FCH · 25/10/2007 18:59

RG - just lost my last post in the "site suddenly goes wierd" episode, but wanted to say - my eating habits have got very wierd since I have been on Maternity Leave - initially I ate much less, but now it has got a bit colder and I am slowly running out of things to do I am eating rather more. I think my diet in general is about to take a significant turn for the worse now I have looked at your link!! Flying saucers and shrimps - my mouth is watering at the thought...
