Windup I am def doing hypnobirthing - meant to be great. Def not having an epidural - and planning to avoid any drugs if I can. My best friend swears by hypnobirthing - says it got her through without any pain relief at all.
But we need to sign up for classes asap cause they fill up very quickly I hear. I think it sounds lovely and very empowering.
The way I look on it is women since time began have been managing this without drugs so I can do it too - hopefully!
Have you thought about a pool as well Windup if that side of things appeals to you? The centre where I'm having my baby has them. Was a thing in the paper two weeks ago saying that every woman in labour should have access to one because they relieve pain so much.

lemonaid · 11/10/2007 17:09

Did hypnobirthing last time and definitely worth it IMO obviously in my case I ended up with em c/s anyway but it definitely helped (and would have helped more if DH had been able to stay and do his hypnobirthing partner thing rather than being kicked out overnight for complicated reasons I won't go into here I couldn't really keep my focus when I was on my own). If I can find what I did with the books and CDs I shall revise it for this time.

I want a pool, luckily there si a choice of hospitals I go to, and I chose the one with the actual 'womens centre' it is quite large and well equipped. TBH though I want to stay at home for as long as possible, I have been at two friends birthes, and one of them went into hospital at the first twinge, it seemed to last forever, because she was there so long iyswim.

PeachyFleshCrawlingWithBugs · 11/10/2007 18:26

I went in a pool briefly with ds2 and had t get out as I hated it LOL! he qas born though with a fab MW team who sued aromatherapy and amssage techniques, it ws a 44 hour labour but that didn't seem to matter (OP presentation) as I was so relaxed. DS1 was induced, ds3 was a very basic straightforward deliery, 3 hours start to finish. Hurt more than the others ind but then it was over so quickly that was OK. With all 9even ds1!) I was completely well after- I ahd to transfer units with ds1 as he was small and they wanted to watch him for a day or two, and I went shopping on the way over - don't think it had 'sunk in' LOL!

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 11/10/2007 18:39

Tbh peachy, I'm not sure I will like it, the idea of being at home in my own bath during pain, fine, but I might change my mind if I get the opportunity to have a pool.

I just want things to be as calm as possible, and to feel as in control as I can, I wouldve gone for a home birth had it not been my first VBA2C, who knows if this is successful maybe anymore babies will be born at home.

WindUpBird · 11/10/2007 18:58

Yes, I'm sort of erring on the side of having a homebirth, if the pregnancy goes well, and may buy a pool. My midwife told me that some midwives aren't trained in waterbirths, so I may not be able to deliver in the water. Last time I asked for the pool in the hosp, but it was broken. The midwives did run me a bath and it was lovely but seemed to speed things along a lot and I panicked and had to get out! Daft really, if someone had told me it was all normal (I think I was just feeling the baby moving down) I would have relaxed a bit more. Lor Rayning, me too, I just want to feel in control this time around, as much as I can.
I've found a lady locally who does hypnobirthing classes so I'm hoping to book some once I get out of this first trimester! Where will you do yours Dolly?

PeachyFleshCrawlingWithBugs · 11/10/2007 19:06

Lorayne, if you ever get the chance to speak to needMoreCoffee on here, IIRC she had a homebirth after 3 c sections!

Hypnobirthing sounds good, but i'm trying to keep any additionals tressors to a minimum now- just go with the flow!

EllieG · 11/10/2007 21:07

I'm sticking my fingers in my ears and hoping that the baby will eventually just fall out with no effort from me or any sort of pain. In the event that that doesn't work, I might think about hypnobirthing, though it is very expensive here (about £300 +) so would have to think very hard! Might not bother as it's just one day after all, and just think of all the stuff I could buy with that money that would last me for loads longer?

Re maternity gear - I went out shopping for some finally this week after my scan - I now have a dress and a pair of trousers I wore to work today and I was sooooo comfy. Have been online and got some more stuff coming - couple more pairs trousers and another dress for work. Am saving buying anything else to see what I really need later on.

Piccalilli2 · 11/10/2007 21:21

I'm hoping to be able to use the pool for pain relief this time - I was induced last time so it wasn't an option and I couldn't even have a bath as there were no plugs. Actually this time I really don't care provided I don't have to be induced again, that was a horrible experience.

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 11/10/2007 21:37

Aww piccallili, not nice, seems to have been quite a few unenjoyed previous births on this thread.

Lets hope it's better this time, and EVERYONE, take your own plugs

Daftmoo · 11/10/2007 21:42

I saw a tv programme today which featured an expectant mother using the hypnobirthing technique, think it was on LivingTV. Looked amazing, the mum was soooo calm and hardly muttered a peep during labour in the birthing pool.

my labour will be classed as high risk being a diabetic, so I've already been told there's no way they'd let me use a pool

Mollyfloss · 11/10/2007 22:15

A friend of mine today did hypnobirthing and would highly recommend it. I have no idea yet what kind of birth I would like. I know I would like it as natural as possible and the most important thing for me is to avoid a caesarian as I would like to have quite a few kids (maybe even 4!!!).

Regarding maternity clothes I have been in mine for a few weeks. I have plenty of tops that still fit but jeans and skirts haven't fit in a while! I think I have put on quite a bit of weight.... hmmm....

frankerooney · 11/10/2007 22:31

I used a pool for pain relief in the first stage. It was great, I got through the whole thing on gas & air despite pushing for nearly 4 hours & ending up needing ventouse (sorry if tmi). I'd recommend the pool. I would have liked a waterbirth but the mw made me get out to check when I said "I WANNA PUSH!" and I didn't feel up to getting back in. Maybe this time I'll go for it, haven't really thought about it yet...

Bought my first pair of maternity jeans today (I made do with big tracksuits last time). Was so nice to be comfortable. But I feel loads more pg now tho... Think I've been in denial til now!!

hpsaucey · 12/10/2007 02:34

HI - Can I ask what hypnobirthing is??? As a second timer I guess I should know but it's passed me by?

BTW - now 15 weeks and big! Only maternity stuff for me now. Anyone else put on a stone yet???

Glad all those scans are out of the way. Roll up 20 week ones!

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 12/10/2007 09:27

Holding up the rear I have my scan 12 week scan on Monday by the end of next week all of us should be into the second trimester!

EllieG · 12/10/2007 09:41

Ooo! Good luck tlsm!
Isn't it all exciting?

paranoidmummy · 12/10/2007 10:19

Hi, can I join? I've been looking on this thread for some time but have been too scared to join in case something went wrong! Am finally biting the bullet... arggghhh. I already have a 3 yr old ds but had two mcs this year which has turned me into a perma-worrier this preg! Have had private NT scan at 11wks and nhs 12 wk and all was well so fingers crossed
My dd is 3rd April (private) or 6th April (NHS). May as well go by latter I suppose! Makes me almost 15 wks.

PS I am huge already!!

bunyanvillas · 12/10/2007 10:27

Hi paranoidmummy - congratulations and welcome to this lovely thread! I am feeling huge too but have decided to embrace it!

smcg · 12/10/2007 10:43

Welcome Paranoidmummy.

Re maternity clothes, Seraphine has a code for free delivery: VAL907UK

lemonaid · 12/10/2007 10:52

Must... resist... lure of... Seraphine...

OP posts:
lemonaid · 12/10/2007 10:57

Bah. "Discount Code invalid or inactive", apparently.

OP posts:
bunyanvillas · 12/10/2007 11:19

Check out ebay for Seraphine, Formes etc - there are sometimes bargains to be had! It hurts to pay so much for something that you don't wear for very long!

lemonaid · 12/10/2007 11:21

I got a lot of stuff from eBay last time, but there hasn't been much that's actually nice in my size so far (that said, there are a few things that have been listed recently that I have my eye on...)

OP posts:
smcg · 12/10/2007 11:31

Lemonaid, try VAL07UK, sorry, I stuck a 9 in by mistake. This should work, I just used it.

EllieG · 12/10/2007 11:53

Welcome paranoidmummy! Is hard to not be scared after MC - if you need to chat about that there is a thread just for it which is lovely too and will link to - sometimes the ladies there can give you sensible advice about things from a further on perspective.
