OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Paranoid mummy, I have not felt any "baby" feelings for quite a while so I am also feeling a tad concerned. But am trying to relax and generally hoping that all is ok! Am in my maternity clothes as they are more comfortable, even though I'm not particularly "pregnant" looking yet. Have some utterly disgusting stretchy trousers from Bloomin' Marvellous in brown & black that I am alternating plus a horrid smocky type dress that was in the Gap maternity sale! Ho hum. Demonaid, did you enjoy your trip to Paris despite the result?

EllieG · 25/10/2007 09:49

Welcome ayomi!
I am looking quite PG now as my tummy sticks out lots. Have put on about 9llbs I think, which is a bit annoying, but only to be expected with the amount of cake have eaten.

Bought a fisherprice kick and play bouncer yesterday from a lady for £15! And is only 6 months old!

Redmonster · 25/10/2007 10:33

I think I have put on around 6 pounds since finding out...amazing since for the first 3 months the only way to keep the ms away was stuffing my face.
I have been living in my maternity jeans for about a month as everything else is too tight but I will need to get some proper trousers soon. I just pulled out an American Apparel skirt I bought in the summer...it has soft waistband so it is really comfortable. I think their tops tend to be quite long so they might be a good option for some basic's when my other tops aren't long enough anymore...which is any day now

smcg · 25/10/2007 10:43

Hi all and hi Ayomi,
I was just reading the weight thread. I have put on 5lbs and am now 15 weeks, my clothes all still fit. My appetite hasn't increased and my dh drives me mad telling me I am not eating enough but I eat healthily anyway. I was a big baby myself (10lb, my poor mother!)so no doubt I'll pile on the pounds soon enough.

I know that it is not the reason to do it but does breastfeeding really help you lose the weight?

Kirbo · 25/10/2007 10:54

smcg -
I'm the same as you - 15 weeks and I'm still in my normal clothes, I'm sure I'll start bursting out all over the place soon
My friend just had her 2nd child a month ago and she says that with BF you can burn 600 calories a day. Not sure if this is right tho! She also says that it helps everything 'ping' back into place after birth!

demonaid · 25/10/2007 10:55

I think it depends on the individual, smcg. One fairly common pattern is that it helps the majority of the weight come off really quickly but the last few pounds don't shift until after you stop, but different women have different experiences. For me with DS the weight just dropped off over the period when he was exclusively breastfed, and I could eat whatever I wanted and still lose weight but the trouble was I got into the habit and kept eating whatever I wanted after he'd started weaning and cutting back on the feeds, and that was a far less successful strategy, weightwise... .

Denny185 · 25/10/2007 11:01

smcg - breastfeeding didnt help me loose any weight, but think may have been something to do with the fact i was permantly hungry whilst feeding and the old will power wasnt that great at stopping me eating. Might try a little more control this time?!?!?!

paranoidmummy · 25/10/2007 11:04

can i add... be prepared to lose your once-ample bosoms from breast feeding too!! when i stopped I went down 4 cup sizes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they were poor excuses.

happy to say they are returning now that i am all hormonal once again!!!

this time round i may just carry on expressing for the next 10 years!!!

Lorayn · 25/10/2007 11:06

LOL demonaid.

Paranoidmummy don't worry bout not feeling anything, its only in the last trimester youre supposed to get the minimum ten movements a day, I sometimes dont feel things for a day or two.

smcg when you breastfeed it contracts your uterus, helping it get back into place, and it also uses quite a lot of calories.

I've been addicted to facebook since yesterday, never really paid it much heed, but I found four old school friends and my cousin yesterday that I havent spoken to in ten years! How awesome is that!

smcg · 25/10/2007 11:08

Thanks, I have heard that you are ravenous when breastfeeding. I am only a 34B to begin with so there'll be nothing left after!!

I have the amnio next Tuesday, I keep changing my mind about having it.

demonaid · 25/10/2007 11:16

Where are you having it? One of the private places or NHS? Do you know which doctor is scheduled to do it?

TheMassacredPoster · 25/10/2007 11:20

Hello - hope all are well

haven't had a proper catch up - but I believe there is a new recruit to welcome !

I have put on about 1/2 stone so far (17 weeks) and am not too bothered - still fit some of my jeans and am just taking things day by day. I have been tending to eat little dinners in the evening, and then having a pudding which I never did before ( and to be honest, am enjoying it!).

Prams wise - we are still dithering and probably will until well after Xmas (waiting for sales etc) ... dh wants a Phil and Ted, I want a littler one (hauck infinity type) so who knows.

Feeling really well at the moment and am feeling the baby move periodically and it is wonderful.

Right - off to start preparing lunch for dd and me (ham and cheese toasties today)

TMP x

TheMassacredPoster · 25/10/2007 11:21

oh and good luck for the amnio smcg x

smcg · 25/10/2007 11:26

One of the consultants at St Thomas' is doing it, I don't know who yet. I just want to get it over with now.

Thanks TheMP.

Piccalilli2 · 25/10/2007 13:14

I've put on 5lbs so far at nearly 17 weeks - quite pleased with that as I'd gained well over a stone by this point last time. Weight gain has accelerated the last couple of weeks but may well slow down again now I've been forced to give up chocolate and cheese due to migraines.

Buggies: we've got a Bugaboo already which I'm going to get a buggy board for and a friend has lent me a mothercare double buggy which I'm hoping not to have to use as it weighs a ton. Dd will be 2.5 by the time baby arrives so hopefully walking most places.

There has been so much chat on here! im buying a loola in pearly gery too, and the carrycot cos i like it

my boobs have been playing up for a few weeks....

Hope everyone well

paranoidmummy · 25/10/2007 15:33

on the subject of boobs... are anyone else's really f@###ing itchy????!!!!

Lorayn · 25/10/2007 15:36

No, but my belly has, ARGHHH DONT SCRATCH!!!
(stretchmark time apparently)

Sheds75 · 25/10/2007 15:42

Itchy boobs...... how Bl**dy anoying is that . I thought it was just me. Can't seem to stop it and it's not as if you can 'really' sctrach such a sensitive area

demonaid · 25/10/2007 15:46

Oh YES, I have itchy boobs. And itchy legs, although keeping them moisturised seems to help (doesn't help with the boobs, though).

paranoidmummy · 25/10/2007 16:04

LOL. oh i love to be able to have this discussion! if i try with even my close friends they look at me like i'm a tiny bit strange!!!

i even have to make dh scratch them for me as his nails are short (obv!) so it doesn't hurt so much!!!

I had the same with my legs too and scrateched them so hard i got bruises. I convinced myself i had leukemia then... my midwife set me straight

you can see why i admit i'm paranoid now...

oooh the little blighters are getting all itchy again... its like they know we're talking about them

sagitta · 25/10/2007 16:13

Lol - I've got itchy boob syndrome too. What can possibly be the purpose of that? Does anyone know why they are itching?

demonaid · 25/10/2007 16:13

Heh, I can just see DH's reaction if I asked him to scratch my boobs for me... like all his Christmases had come at once...

demonaid · 25/10/2007 16:14

In principle it could be because they are growing (bits that are growing tend to itch as the skin stretches) but mine don't appear to be growing, so I can't blame that.
