I am just back from the midwife. Got to hear the bub's heartbeat....when it would let us...bub kept moving around so it was hard to hear it for long. My blood tests also came back and it turns out I am O negative. This means I have to get an anti-D injection at 28 weeks. Has anybody else had this?

bunyanvillas · 16/10/2007 19:30

Hi Redmonster yes, I am rhesus negative too and had to have an anti-D jab when pregnant with dd - and will have to have the same again this time. It's nothing to worry about, just another injection (great huh!)

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 16/10/2007 19:36

VBAC=Vaginal Birth After Caesarian.
It can be bloody hard to be 'allowed' to do it.

WindUpBird · 16/10/2007 19:49

Wow! HAven't been on for a few days and the thread's gone mad! Hello to all new people. I don't have any news other than I've suddenly got a bit of a thing for M&S belgian chocolate brazil nuts...but nuts are healthy and eating chocolate makes a happy baby so....why not?!
You're all so organised with names! With dd, DH and I had to phone a friend after a few days to get her to choose for us! It seemed such a monumental decision that in the sleep-deprived haze we really struggled to think of a name. I really liked Moses first time round (before Gwyneth nabbed it) but it would never have gone with our surname.

Hi

Just checkin in on this thread and it's too much to read!!

From a few messages ago, I am rhesus n'ive - only thing that meant was I had 3 injections (although they hurt a bit I have to say - even as a regular blood donor accustomed to injections! No other issues!

Can I just ask another other 2nd time mums to be, if you have told your dc1's that you are expecting, have you seen a change in them? My dd has become a bit irrational and finding it hard to control her emotions during the last week (we told her at the weekend). Could be co-incidental, but wondering if it down to the news... she is happy about the baby don't get me wrong, but maybe this is a sub-concious reaction?

Any thoughts anyone?

Munch

OH I see! Top marks then to the VBAC crew! Yes, I have told 2.5 year old dd that there is a baby in mummy's tummy whereopon she looks aghast, says "nooo" in shocked tones -and then announces that she wants a baby sister! Am taking the softly softly approach and have bought a book (no words - just pictures, you make up your own text) depicting pics of a new arrival in the family with a toddler "helping out". We shall see how things progress as the bump comes on!

PeachyFleshCrawlingWithBugs · 16/10/2007 20:59

Loyane don't take the 'allowed' thing LOL (seriosuly have you looked at the AIMs website? lots of vbac- gettinga dvice available)

Doula came, a MN Doula indeed! And she was totally, really lovely . excellent decision!

lemonaid · 16/10/2007 21:31

With DS we started off getting a few books (There's a House Inside My Mummy, Waiting for Baby and Little Monster Did It, if memory serves he really likes Little Monster Did It although I was concerned that it might be a bit negative). Then when the general idea had sunk in we mentioned that there was a baby in my tummy. He seems unfazed by the whole thing it may help that lots of his friends from nursery have baby brothers and sisters?

I am rhesus negative and they told me I didn't need the injections unless there was a possibility of my blood mingling with the baby e.g if have some sort of bleed. I think is different if is your first baby though.

scorpio1 · 17/10/2007 09:33

I'm starting pg yoga next tuesday anyone else done this before? i never have. Will be so nice to get out and meet some people, feel a bit lonely sometimes. yay! its £30 for a block of 5 weeks, do you think that this means you only do 5 weeks or thats how she likes to be paid iyswim? so i could do it until term? i have pg brain, please humour me!

lemonaid · 17/10/2007 09:37

Ellie -- that's unusual. Current National Institute for Clinical Excellence guidelines (see overall guidance and leaflet for pregnanct women)are that you should be offered anti-D injections routinely at 28 and 34 weeks in addition to any time you have any bleeding (unless you know that your DP is also Rhesus negative), and that's what every rhesus negative woman I know has been offered (whether first baby or not). NICE are doing a review of the guidance but their conclusions won't be out until the middle of next year.

You should also be given anti-D within 72 hours of birth if your baby is Rhesus positive.

(All of this only applies if you aren't already sensitised, of course -- but I imagine they would have told you if your blood tests indicated that you were, given the problems it can cause)

Scorpio - just checking up on people!

I did yoga for pg last time - it was great. Yes, £30 for 5 sessions as like being paid that way - but where I was you could start paying for individual sessions at the same rate towards the end so that you didn't end up paying for some that you'd miss. I found it a great place to unwind and relax. Did it all the way through...

lemonaid · 17/10/2007 09:59

Humph. The first of those links just goes to the NICE front page, for some reason (second link is OK, though) -- just search for TA41 to get to the relevant guidance page.

Morning Hello to all the newbies & welcome back to those who´ve been on holiday. DS knows I´m pregnant & is perfectly happy as long as it´s a boy (or a puppy )as he´s already told me he doesn´t like girls I have a feeling he´s going to be disappointed

scorpio1 · 17/10/2007 11:14

my children love babies, and they know there is going to be one. ds1 wants 'a boy called Stan' . hmmm, we'll see

Soph73 · 17/10/2007 11:19

LOL at Scorpio´s DS1 'boy called Stan' Can see why you´re thinking that one through

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 17/10/2007 11:21

My kids were in the bedroom when I had just done the test so they knew straight away, couldnt really hide it from them as DP took one look at my face and said 'omg you are pregnant arent you* and DD picked this up. They are both fone with it.
DS wants a girl because he is 'mummys boy' but he wants a boy called willy
DD wants a girl cos she doesnt want another annoying little brother
I didnt get any books for DS (nearly 3) but he has been 'reading' my pregnancy book and keeps poking my 'symbols' (n ipples) asking when milk is going to come out. I assume thats his sister telling him that!!

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 17/10/2007 11:22

OH, also, baby is moving absolutely tons now, and dp thinks he felt it for the first time last night

scorpio1 · 17/10/2007 11:24

ooh, you know my wedding dress to be, well im bidding on it on ebay, so far half the price of new! woman says she has worn it once. So chuffed!

ds2 says he wants to cuddle the baby when it comes out and ds1 wants him to sleep in his bed and climb up the bunk bed ladder on his own, apparently!

All the mums already on here, did you bf before and will you again? what about first timers?

Soph73 · 17/10/2007 11:44

I'm getting the odd weird sensation, which I don't think is just wind (sorry, tmi). So hopefully what I´m feeling is beanie. It doesn't happen every day but the feelings are getting more often.

scorpio1 · 17/10/2007 11:45

like bubbles, butterflies or someone washing up in there? its baby im feeling my darling more and more

Soph73 · 17/10/2007 11:46

I've been trying to upload some photos but even though I've made them smaller the system still doesn't seem to want to let me. I wanted to show you all DS's 5th bday

Soph73 · 17/10/2007 11:47

That´s it Scorpio - like bubbles. With DS it was more butterfly sensation. Am getting wonderful mental piccies of someone washing up in there

scorpio1 · 17/10/2007 11:48

thats sort of what it feels like!

i have a MW appointment a week today, for my blood test. and i will hear heartbeat for first time!!

Soph73 · 17/10/2007 11:50

Am still feeling immensely paranoid, even though 1st scan was fine. I know I won´t calm down again until they do another one on Monday. Is everyone who´s expecting their 2nd feeling like this. I never felt like this with DS.
