Old thread here.

Conversely, in my area everyone gets offered a nuchal scan on the NHS but they don't offer the blood tests. Very random.

If no one's mentioned the nuchal scan to you, sagitta, then you probably don't get one in your area. They may still do the blood tests (another screening test that comes back with a risk result) or they may not...

I ate peanuts when pregnant with DS because there were times that peanut butter was all I felt I could keep down. And as he's fine I'm doing the same with this one. There are no real food allergies in our family, though (and also very little evidence on the peanuts in pregnancy thing seems to be virtually no difference in allergy rates between countries that tell you not to eat them and countries that tell you it's fine). Otherwise I'm sticking to the "rules" carefully (although I will allow myself to eat liver occasionally it's the vitamin A that's the problem with that and I'm hardly going to overdose by having it a couple of times in the course of the whole pregnancy).

Ooo I like Blake too, am all confused now. Might have to add it to my list. Also like Findlay but DP vetoed.
Eva - hope I didn't offend hon, I personally love the name and knew what it meant in Hebrew, but my sister is an historian so is very picky about such things.

EllieG · 16/10/2007 15:31

I had peanut butter and some liver pate at the weekend (not together) cos it looked SO yummy and I really fancied some. Don't think it is harmful in moderation.

scorpio1 · 16/10/2007 15:31

We're all gonna have Blakes! i did like Jasper but i already have a child whose name begins with J, so thought it may get confusing?

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 16/10/2007 15:40

Blake and jasper are lovely but have has to rule out all B names and J names as our surname is Jubb

EllieG · 16/10/2007 15:41

Had never thought of Jasper! I like. Though does sound a teeny bit like some kind of cad in a Mills and Boon novel.

Sheds75 · 16/10/2007 15:49

all this talk on names is great, we can't agree on anything at the moment especially as we haven't yet decided on whose surname the bump will get, even if we are planning to get married at some point

ToastAddict · 16/10/2007 16:02

Ooooh, names!

I still like Jack, but am concerned that every other boy in class will have the same name

Loved Molly (still do) but dh is convinced that it will get shortened to "Moll" and with our surname being Hill, it will sound like "mole hill"!...... I think he is being too pernickity, but hey.

We are thinking Maggie at the moment.....

But we have really decided to wait til the 20 week scan, so we can reduce our effort by 50% when we know the boy/girl answer!

Elfsmummy · 16/10/2007 16:06

Goodness, you go on holiday for a week and there's nearly 400 more posts when you get back! Its just taken me the best part of an hour to catch up!

Went to America to visit SIL. (Wisconsin - back of beyond - so limited maternity choices but did pick up a few bits)

Now 15 weeks and still getting sick - I'm sure it didn't last this long last time around.

Have put on some weight on holiday but not sure I can put it down to the pregnancy!! However for now I'm still in normal clothes. My DD was an April 2006 baby and I was still in normal clothes at Christmas that time. I guess they just stay well hidden!

Have decided against triple tests etc after doing some reading round etc. We had a high risk (1 in 20) last time (And I was 25) and ended up with an amnio (which was fine and didn't hurt one bit - for anyone considering it) But I figure that this time I don't want to know.

Anyway, I hope you're all well today. We're horribly jet lagged in this house but on the plus side it does mean that DD didn't wake up til 10am this morning (bliss) She'd been asleep for 15 hours!

Take care xx

Denny185 · 16/10/2007 16:21

Not v good at deciding names, DD was a few days old till she had a name (convinced she was a boy and therefore didnt need a girls name!) and the name we liked for DS just didnt seem right when he was born. Both of them have irish names (husbands family) so guess well have to start short listing again.

Sheds75, were over the other side of Chester so cant tell u from personal experience only word of mouth but Chester hosp supposed to have good reputation, Warrington on the other hand is supposed to be quite stretched on the old staffing and consequently the couple of experiences ive heard of havnt been great. The type of people living in Chester are v also quite diff to those in Warrington - def worth a good look at the areas B4 u commit to the move - good luck .

Piccalilli2 · 16/10/2007 16:24

I'm taking all the food rules a lot less seriously than I did with dd, partly because I can't keep up with what we are/are not supposed to eat. Did eat peanut butter with dd, but no nut allergies in the family. Have given up pate, but I am having huge cravings for blue cheese - last pregnancy I did eventually succumb but had it on pizza so it was cooked which I think is OK??

Soph73 · 16/10/2007 16:35

elfsmummy - very Pleased you had a great time, sorry to hear that you´re still feeling unwell.
picalilli2 - lots of people would say that blue cheese is a no-no whether cooked or not. IMHO if you´re not living on it every now and then won´t hurt.

MathairNua · 16/10/2007 16:39

Hi all,

I have been away for the best part of three weeks, and am now trying to catch up - it's difficult; you can talk. I've been sitting here for over an hour and still I didn't manage to read all of the messages.

Been home to Ireland, and got fussed over, which was great. My sister has a daughter who was born in July so I got to play mother a bit while I was home. I also got some of her maternity clothes, which is a bonus.

I had my scan before I left, and everything is fine. I do have a small fibroid but apparently, it's ok but might cause a bit of pain later when the baby gets a bit bigger . The edd did not change. I have had some nuchal tests, but apparently at UCLH, they do an integrated test, so I still have a blood test next week when I am 16 weeks (currently 14+6) before I get any results. Has anyone else had this?

PeachyFleshCrawlingWithBugs · 16/10/2007 16:50

blue and soft cheese perfectly OK if thoroughly cooked yes, whihc is good (although still cant eat the bligters- have a mild intolerance when not pg, when pg ahve to watch everything I eat of nto only do i get ill- even one dairy milk button will do it- but baby then stnads a higher risk of casein intol, 2 of my 3 are casein intol as it is).

Blake is a local name- some Admiral called Robert Blake (Big Cheese under Cromwell) came from there. So whilst its a nice name, its associated with certain schools etc and not so usable.

having 2 with the same initial not a real prob whoever asked that- DS1 is Samuel, DS2 is Stirling- never been an issue.

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 16/10/2007 16:54

ToastAddict my neice is Maggie wasnt sure at the beginning but think its really cool now

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 16/10/2007 17:24

Yeah, I love the name Blake, it reminds me a bit of home and away but neevrmind. William is dp's middle name, nad his grandads name, but I wouldnt want it shortened to Billy(I already have a Bobby, not keen on Billy and Bobby), so I think we'd just call him Will.

I wish to God eastenders hadnt used the name Roxy, but by the time she would be older then I doubt anyone would remember. I also love Imogen but DP says it sounds like Imaging...........

lemonaid · 16/10/2007 17:33

DS would have been Imogen if he'd been a girl, but I've decided against it this time as it seems to be getting more popular (has even been an Imogen on Big Brother, I think. Or possibly Celebrity Big Brother).

wow!! this must be the busiest thread on mn. I pop into RL to do some stuff, come back on here and spend AGES catching up!

Hello to all newbies (I don't think I've said that for a while ), and congrats on all the scan-es. for those who have been on holiday - esp Elfsmummy ... would love to go and visit my brother in America (Indy).

Names .. yes, we have settled on two for now - but no doubt that will change as the pregnancy progesses ...

Girl - Olivia (because I like Livvy)
Boy - Ashton

no middle names yet - will fine tune closer to the time!

Am looking into Hypnobirthing at the moment and wonder if anyone has any comments or heard anything about it.

lemonaid · 16/10/2007 17:49

There's some discussion on hypnobirthing further down the thread (look around 11/12 October).

OP posts:
TheMaskedPoster · 16/10/2007 17:55

thanks lemonaid - I thought so (but was too lazy to trawel through all the posts ! )

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 16/10/2007 18:10

maskedposter, I love the name Olivia, but DP's brother is called Oliver, and apparently he used to call him Olivia to tease him when they were kids

PeachyFleshCrawlingWithBugs · 16/10/2007 18:15

Don't rely on Roxy wearing off, DS1 would have been a bethany and a few weeks after the Corrie baby was born- she's still there. Phew!

have my Doula coming in half an hour to visit

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 16/10/2007 18:17

Lemonaid, you're a VABCer aren't you??
Get thee over to the VBAC thread, us april-ees have been crashing over there

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 16/10/2007 18:17

Oh no Peachy!
Ruby became quite popular and she disappeared, so fingers crossed!

bunyanvillas · 16/10/2007 19:23

What is VABCer?
