The last thread seems a bit full so I thought perhaps it is time to start a new one

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi ladies - well I've made it to 38 weeks for the first time. Both my previous babies were born by now so this is a whole new territory for me. Knowing my luck I'll be overdue with this one! Managed to get both kids' bedrooms finished this weekend although I have been shocked by the lack of space left in dd's room as she will be sharing with her new sibling eventually so we have a bed and a cot in there as well as all the changing paraphernalia etc. Really pleased that dd settled into her new bed with no problems whatsoever this weekend and even though we started potty training her on Saturday she has been doing brilliantly. Only 2 accidents all weekend. I know , I know it seems a foolish thing to be doing 2 weeks before having another baby but she definitely seemed ready for it and her nursery were up for doing it there so we thought hey what the hell - why not! I've also been getting those intense lower back aches which I presume are pre-labour pains but other than that no other signs that labour is on its way.

I also just wanted to say how fantastic my dp has been over the last few weeks. He has been doing loads of diy to satisfy my nesting instinct, dealing with the kids, making me have lots of rest, putting up with my hormonal swings all while doing a full time job. I love him to bits and wanted to share that with you - getting all soppy now - can tell I must be close

Good luck Futurity on Tuesday - hope it all goes well. Looking forward to hearing about your experience soon.

Have a feeling I might end up joining the march thread as not due till 24th! Have been having loads of tightenings but they never come to anything so am trying to just chill out and enjoy the relaxation. Baby still very active and booting away (ouch). It's been lovely & sunny here so at least have been able to get out of the house and wander around. Feels like you're in a state of limbo doesn't it?

futurity · 07/02/2005 17:34

Just a quick message signing off as off to hospital tomorrow for my c-section. Feeling excited but also a bit emotional worrying how my son will take to his new brother but I know worrying won't help and we shall just have to see what happens.

I will post details upon my return (despite my husband being a computer programmer I don't trust him to attempt a posting on my behalf!!). tt4n!

futurity, best of luck+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++=

How exciting to be meeting your baby today!

I had God awful backache all yesterday afternoon. DP is away so was a wee bit nervous , fortunately dd lay and watched t.v with me after nursery bless her.
Fell a bit better today.................

emandbump · 08/02/2005 14:57

Yes good luck futurity. I am so happy that you will be able to see your baby tonight! And I have my fingers crossed for the 2 January mums - after all this time, you must be so happy that 'D-Day' is coming at last!
I am hanging on in here... I have no idea how you mums are coping with toddlers and a bump - as I am feeling absolutley rubbish at the mo. As well as feeling a bit isolated; everyone around me seems to be getting so over-excited while I'm feeling pretty down and a bit overwealmed... I'm hoping this is simply haywire hormones and will go away soon...Is anyone else feeling like this?
I have had my fingers crossed that the midwife would tell me the baby was engaged this week, so I could hope for an immenent birth, but alas, although he is head down, he's nowhere near so it looks like we have a way to go yet. Perhaps I will try to get a haircut to cheer me up a bit...

emandbump · 08/02/2005 15:01

ooh - on the upside- I have just found out that my hospital (kingston) is trialling a birth pool and have booked myself in for that... (it's something I had thougt I'd like but ruled it out when a homebirth went off the agenda) so thats a bonus....

Hazellnut · 08/02/2005 17:55

Good luck everybody - can't believe we are now in Feb and I should just be heading for my due date (was this Thurs !). Am trying to wait patiently for the rest of you but its tricky !!

Emandbump, I was at Kingston and they were really good - was very impressed by their care although the birthing pool wasn't in when I was there.

Saw the consultanat today. (well another guy i'd not met before). I told him straight out i was really scared incase baby was still breech and really wanted a scan.
He examined me and said ,"the baby is definately head down, now i'll go and get the scanner to re-assure you as this is also very important"!!!!!!!!!

I LOVE HIM

I nearly cried because he listened and found my feelings as important as his findings. (Not that my care hasn't been good but i've had no proof it's head down).
Anyway, now i have, head down spine on the left, even quickly showed me the heart. He has made me all excited now for the birth where-as before i was just scared, (as dd was so quick).
Isn't it lovely when you get a lovely person????

My mam said it's the first time i've had a laugh in ages (after the scan), and everyone has been walking on eggshells round me for weeks

LittleNemo · 09/02/2005 15:43

Angeliz - that is wonderful news

Not been on for a while coz been busy trying to finish at work and actually buy things so that the baby has somewhere to sleep and something to sleep in when it actually arrives. All finally done (hurray), but now I'm sat here waiting.......not due until the 20th but have visions of being 2 weeks late as it's my 1st might start on the raspberry leaf tea etc next week...see if i can't encourage the baby that it wants to see the world.

Jolly4 - good luck for tomorrow!

Angeliz · 09/02/2005 15:56

Thanks LittleNemo+
My first was 1 day early so don't give up, i'm already on the rasberry leaf tablets.

GOOD LUCK jolly4+++++++++++++==

laa · 09/02/2005 19:43

This is getting very exciting. I'm wondering how Futurity has got on...V. pleased to hear your good news too Angeliz. I spent y'day afternoon with diarrhoea, vomiting and big contractions afterwards, but it's quietened down since. The baby's fully engaged now, but unfortunately is now lying with its back against my spine. Anyone know any ways to get it to move into a better position?? Good news is that everyone is sure it will not be a huge baby -HURRAH!! Fingers crossed. Good luck everyone. I'm due on 15th (next Tues.) and counting!!

Good to hear you had such a good antenatal visit Angeliz and baby's head down. You must feel much happier. I saw my consultant as I was getting really uptight about the baby being back to back (is ANYONE'S facing the right way????) and she was lovely & very reassuring.
Have been cooking & cleaning like a mad thing. Keep seeing dirt everywhere and have this overwhelming feeling that I must have the place spotless for the baby - very peculiar as I'm not exactly known for my standards of hygiene normally! Was cleaning the backs of the shutters yesterday balancing on a stool and nearly toppled off a couple of times..whoops.

Hazellnut · 10/02/2005 19:22

Hi all - hope you're bearing up !! It was my due date today which seems a bit bizarre.

Tipex - thanks for asking - the nights are getting a bit weary although I have been lucky enough to have my mum staying this week who takes dd in the mornings so I can get some sleep. She goes home tomorrow though so will be more sleep deprived next week ! People who have been there before keep telling me it doesn't last long (but then my Mum tells me my brother didn't sleep through till 2 and 1/2 !). Other than that things are going great - dd is gorgeous and can't imagine life without her !

Thinking of you all.

Tipex - she reckoned that you only ever hear about the bad OP labours and that in fact most of the time they go fine. All 3 of her labours were posterior and went smoothly and she said that because the head is well engaged & baby doesn't feel too big then it should fit through my pelvis OK. I might be more likely to need a drip to help baby rotate by strengthening the contractions. She also said that if it's something that I'm really worried about then she's happy if I don't labour for ages & ages and can opt for a section if I want. I'm hoping that now I'm less worried then it's more likely to go well as I should be more relaxed.

futurity · 11/02/2005 18:51

CONGRATULATIONS Futurity

I LOVE the name Samuel.
Hope your other little boy is adjusting to another baby in the house. (You'll have to give me a few tips soon+++++++++)

bunjies · 12/02/2005 04:22

Many congrats Futurity - glad to hear you and baby are doing well.

Well yesterday (Friday) turned out to be a roller coaster of emotions for me and today is shaping up to be just as interesting hence not being able to sleep and coming on Mumsnet! Had my 38 week check and for some reason my blood pressure has gone up quite considerably and the protien in my urine went up by +1 on the scale. So GP sent me off to hospital to be monitored. After spending most of the day being bored out of my skull waiting for a Doctor they pronounced that whilst everything else was ok (including baby) they were still worried about my blood pressure which was refusing to come down. To my horror they wanted me to stay in overnight and monitor it every 2 hours for 24 hrs and then induce if there was no change. Having a paranoid fear of induction (and hospital births) after having my 1st child I am absolutely determined to do anything I can to avoid this and have another home birth. So having spoken to the lovely snr midwife and not the doom and gloom registrar (who implied that if left the hospital I would be more or less murdering my baby) and having been in hospital for nearly 9 hrs I discharged myself and am going to try castor oil this morning (worked for me with no. 2) and see if I can induce myself more naturally at home. So if all goes well I may go into labour today which will be 9 days early . Will keep y'all posted.
