The last thread seems a bit full so I thought perhaps it is time to start a new one

I agree with bunjies...blankets are good at first for swaddling (which really helped my DS sleep I think) and then when he was able to escape from that (!) I moved onto sleeping bags with only a day or so of adjustment (for him getting used to not being wrapped up and having a bit more movement!). He is now 3 (will be on Tuesday!) and stopped the grobags about 6 months ago so we have quite a collection for DS2 to use!!

laa · 16/01/2005 21:28

Tipex, I'm with Bunjies and Futurity on this. Both of mine liked being swaddled in the first month. My aunty had knitted the most beautiful shawl for them and it became known as the magic blanket because it seemed to really soothe them. We had cotton sheets and cellular blankets. DD went into a Grobag at 12 wks. amnd I haven't looked back. I'd really recommend them. She's such a fidgety bottom and after a late feed you can just settle them down without disturbing them by unwrapping them or rearranging blankets. They also come with really clear layer instructions and thermomenter for the room. I now have a massive excess of baby bedding! Both were nearly 10lbs at birth so could go into Grobags pretty quickly but I liked swaddling them.
Totally changing the subject, I just keep bursting into tears and feeling quite low at times. My hormones feel out of control.
i've got a scan tom. and cons. appt. and the person I thought was looking after DD whilst DS is at school and I'm at hospital says she can't do it. I feel really let down and hurt. I'm sure it's me over-reacting. Nonetheless I am not looking forward to the appt. with DD getting fed up in her buggie!!

Angeliz · 16/01/2005 22:00

laa, hope your scan goes o,k and just take some buttons and stuff, spoil her rotten so she behaves. What's your scan for BTW? (LOVE her name).
I have started the dreaded iron tablets and i am constipated-the heartburn is worse and keep getting really tight feeling in my chest!
I am definatley sticking with 2 as 3 would drive me potty!!
Tipex, as far as i can remember, all my dd seemed to wear for the first week or two were babygrows. I just like them to be comfy when they're so tine and you really can't tell what they're in when they go out in February as they're wrapped up like little eskimos
I too swaddled as dd loved it. It's really simple and the midwife at the hospital will show you how to do it. It's great, they must feel so safe like that as i think it must be scary having so much freedom after the womb!!
Can't wait to meet the baby now.
Laa, hope your hormones calm down soon++++++++++++++

Hi All

Well I picked up my free nappies - they are Bambino ones so not quite what we had planned but as DP says as we haven't had to pay for them we can get used to them. I have 12 newborn size and 3 wraps and a nice message saying our local council will financially help us with the next sizes that we need. I can't tell you how lucky I feel at getting these as am starting to panic about the finances already!
So really I am on here to say GOOD LUCK to you all. I am on my last day at work and don't have access at home (although we do have a PC now so a step in the right direction) I wish everyone the very very best of luck and will pop in when I am at the library to see who's had what and who and I hope we all have miracle pain free labours with no complications and beautiful sleeping through babes from day 1
Take care everyone and hopefully chat again soon

Hi All - my last day at work too - it was supposed to be friday but I spent most of the day in the hospital so missed my own leaving lunch !! Marvellous !! Everything ok though - I had a Antenatal appointment and I said I was getting paranoid about movement although I thought it was ok so they strapped me up to a monitor, db didn't behave so I ended up having to go back in the afternoon... So have popped into work today to finish off (and pick up pressies - everyone has been really kind/generous). I have just got a computer at home (it arrived this morning) and I am waiting for the internet access stuff so won't be logging in for a bit but hopefully will be back soon - in case I can't work out how it all works - good luck everybody, can't believe it is almost our time !!!

laa · 17/01/2005 14:09

Hi all. Feeling more chirpy today! I had my growth scan and a really nice friend had DD and her DH picked up DS from pre-school. It would have been a nightmare if DD had had to come with me cos the clinic was running an hour behind. Anyway lovely scan. Baby was doing lots of sucking with its lips and looked very cute! They said that it's average size right now, but the cons. said to ignore that because it's unlikely to be under9lbs given the other 2 I've had. Wondering if it's a girl, because it's more likely to be smaller...DD was like this at this pt. in the pregnancy. I'm drinking lots of raspberry leaf tea, in the hope I won't go overdue!
Feeloing a bit less hormonal today and like I'll manage with 3 under 4s....I just felt very badly let down by my friend y'day and she was someone I thought I could count on. Apparently not. Hope you're all well. Angeliz, the iron tablets don't sound much fun. Have you tried getting Ranitidine for your heartburn?

Nik72 · 17/01/2005 14:20

I'm off work too today ....However it's because I've had this horrible flu-ey cold and was looking so ropey at work this morning that I got packed off home again... The bump seem to have weathered it all Ok at least & I'm just taking it easy on the sofa listening to radio 2. Funnily enough I am feeling a lot better from the pregnancy point of view - a lot of the pressure on my ribs has gone, wonder if the baby's engaging and this is the "lightening" that you hear about? Midwife tomorrow so will find out then (and wangled another day off work for the appointment, hooray!).
Good to hear everyones news - it'll be birth announcements before we know it...!

Angeliz · 19/01/2005 09:33

Nik72, i've got that too. I feel awful and grotty.
Having terrible insomnia lately too even though i'm knackered! Was awake last night from 3 till 5! Had to get up for Gaviscon and loo and just couldn't sleep. Really wanted to get up and watch the news but couldn't be arsed as i couldn't even have a cup of tea!! Also dd 3.11 was in my bed which i was just thinking 'oh this is gonna be a nightmare with night feeds and dd still not sleeping soild through the night!!).

Anyway, get me whinging
Went to my first antenatal class last night , (just to refresh my memeore). A Raised a few worries for me (have started a thread on them), but made it seem so real too!!

It's getting close now! Wonder who'll be first. I don't feel this pregnancy has flown by but can't beleive we're all nearly there either!!

laa · 20/01/2005 14:49

Hi girls. Had a moments excitement this morning when I got back from dropping DS at pre-school. I'd had a bit of a show - think it was, never had one in the other 2 pregnancies. Anyway, was quite excited til my neighbour told me she had a show and didn't go into labour for 5 wks...! I had realy shocking low back pain so went and bought a hot water bottle. Feeling better now. Can't imagine anything will happen for a few weeks though. Was overdue with the 1st 2, so don't suppose this one'll be much different. Sorry everyone's feeling grotty. Weather doesn't help, does it.

I think I'm getting my knickers a bit knotted about OP labours too - my mum had a difficult time having me with a posterior labour but I keep telling myself that this was the 1970s and she was stuck in bed on a drip etc rather than having an active labour. Have made an appointment to discuss the labour with my consultant really to put my mind at rest and stop me getting too hung up on it.
Mind you, baby's head is engaged so that's good news (except for my bladder - it's like Russian Roulette every time I cough!!!).

Angeliz · 20/01/2005 21:08

Me too ( worried about op and wether it's still breech- or transverse as i'm getting some wierd movements RIGHT round the side!!!).
Maybe we're all hormonal Can't think why!!!

Is anyone else finding getting back to sleep in the night a nightmare???

Angeliz · 20/01/2005 21:09

ROFL Nik about Russian roullette

laa · 21/01/2005 19:25

I am Miss Insomnia at the moment. I'm really tired and then I suddenly feel wide awake after I've gone to bed. Almost started baking bread and doing the ironing at 2am the other morning. I'm getting really fed up with the lack of sleep and the need to wee every 2 mins. At least this time round I've got an upstairs bathroom! My only consolation is remebering that although when DD was born I was exhausted from night feeds and caring for DS who woke up every day at 5.45am, but I still felt I had more sleep than in the final wks. of pregnancy!!

laa · 21/01/2005 19:27

Ooh - forgot to say. My physio told me that after you've fully recovered from the birth etc. - several months on - you should be able to drink a fair amount of water and do 10 star jumps with no problems with your pelvic floor at all.!!!!

I SO can't remember feeling movements so far round the sides with dd.
This evening it was like i'd swallowed a dinasors egg. A huge big lump to the left of my belly button and limbs sticking out at my right side. Is anyone else feeling it right at the sides???????

Angeliz · 23/01/2005 21:56

Is anyone else getting quite impatient now....................................................................................................................................................................................................

futurity · 23/01/2005 22:19

Yeap...me to Angeliz ...on the impatient front and the strange limbs front! I know he is the right way round but I can't remember these extreme sideways movements last time! I think the left side is his feet/hands and the right size is his huge bottom (like his Mummy!). It is just so freaky to see my tummy poke out so violently..wonder whether he will be this much of a fidget when he comes out...if he ever comes out! (feels like that at the moment!!)

Angeliz · 23/01/2005 22:29

Oh futurity that is so re-assuring that you're feeling the big limbs at the side. I was startng to worry all over again about it being transverse!! (Or still breech!)
Have midwife again on Wednesday so hopefully she'll be a bit more convinced and convincing about how baby is lying. I've got a tour of maternity ward on Tuesday night where i had dd nearly 4 years ago so that will no doubt get me all emotional!
Am being a wee bit naughty and having a glass of Jacobs Creek tonight and it's giving me a real hot flush!!
What a lightweight!!!

bunjies · 24/01/2005 21:01

Hello all. 4 weeks to go and counting! I so hope this one isn't early (previous 2 were 3 and 2 weeks early) as I've got ds's birthday and new carpets being fitted all in the next couple of weeks!

Still haven't a clue which way round baby is lying but I have been getting those stabbing pains under my ribs so could be head down I suppose. Anyway, got midwife appt on Friday so hopefully she'll be able to tell.

Have had a sensitive tooth round my filling for the last couple of weeks so am finally going to dentist this week to get it checked out. I really hope this is just a pregnancy thing and not a dodgy filling that will need to be replaced as I hate having my teeth drilled and mucked about with.

Hang in there ladies it will all be over before you know it. Enjoy this time while you can because no matter how many children you already do or don't have life will never be the same afterwards. I have to say I'm probably more nervous of what life will be like after this baby is born than ever before as we'll have 3 kids to deal with so I'm just enjoying the rest while I can.

Angeliz · 26/01/2005 14:58

Saw midwife today who felt and was pretty convinced that i'm 3/5's engaged!!! She was also convinced it was head down but then checked 3 times and made me doubt again! I have hospital check at 38 weeks so i said if i was worried, (I REALLY want to know for definate before i go into labour), would they scan me there and she said probably!
So i am gonna start my rasberry leaf and get ready now.
She also asked all about my first birth and i said that from when i was in PAIN to having dd was about 3 half hours and she told me not to let my contractions get too close and to come in so i don't get csught short in the back of a car!!!
That's another reason i want to know for sure how it's lying.
Am pretty re assured though as she is older very wise midwife!!

Hello All - I am back - have been away partly because I finished work so was waiting to get my home email set up but also because.......... I HAVE A BABY !!!!!!! All a bit of a shock to be honest as went in for a growth scan last thursday and only left the hospital yesterday. Basically db hadn't really grown in two weeks so they said I should deliver and then found out I had signs of pre eclampsia so that was it .... Had a few problems in that as db was going to be so small they needed to ensure they had a neonatal bed ready and the neonatal ward was full so they were threatening to send us to another hospital which added to the stress somewhat but we begged and pleaded and they agreed that as db was 37 weeks not much help shouold be needed so they could cope... To cut a long, traumatic story short I started to be induced friday afternoon - prostin didn't work, artificial membrane rupturing didn't work and syntocin didn't work, despite v. v. strong contractions. By midnight on sunday night i was only 1 cm dilated so they had to call it a day, wheel me into theatre and I had an emergency ceasarian and Anna Caitlin was born at 1.32 on 24 January !! Can't say it was the natural labour I had planned and all v. stressful but IT WAS WORTH IT !! Anna is wonderful - v. tiny, was 4 lb 9 ! Had to stay in a while cos my blood pressure was a bit erratic but now home and trying to settle in to a routine - as if!
I guess this makes me thrown out of the February club (or can I stay if my patient ??!)
Good luck to everyone waiting !
