I hate Mondays! I am totally counting down the days until I go on maternity leave - 54 working days left!!

I went bra shopping yesterday. I'm now in a 34HH and wondering where this is going to stop. Fortunately Bravissimo (they are wonderful, if anyone else is big-boobed like me!) does pretty bras in a J, JJ and even K and they do nursing bras up to an L. I hope that's going to be enough!!!

The lovely fitter (who remembered me from earlier in my pregnancy) suggested it was time I tried a non-underwired but the results were so depressing - boobs as saggy with as without, but somehow looked worse when encased in a whole load of granny bra - that I told her I couldn't bear to get one yet and she helped me pick a lovely comfy underwired one instead. Still a granny bra, but at least my boobs are pert!

Happy Monday all! Oh and merryberry - if you find any lovely cardigans or sweaters can you please tell me. DH did the laundry this weekend and managed to shrink the only nice pregnancy cardigan I have been able to find and it is now no longer in stock... I am getting cold!!!

HolidaysQueen · 12/11/2007 08:37

I've just realised that I really need to ration my use of the exclamation mark - ooops

turtle23 · 12/11/2007 08:48

HQ- you inspired me to count up...I have 21 working days left thanks to clever holiday banking and Christmas! Also going on holiday in 55 days!! Not trying to rub it in girls, just sooooooo excited! I have the midwife coming in a bit to do my homebirth assessment...it all seems to be a bit more real now. Especially as I went to an NCT sale at the wknd and bought THE CUTEST clothes ever. Some nice lady who has the same penchant for dressing kids up in "outfits" sold all her barely worn stuff. Have 10 babygrows with matching hats and so many beautiful blue spotty and stripey things. Getting more used to the fact that Poppy is now Pascal.
Happy Monday everyone!

Morningall!

And hi to doup76. I know what you mean about sober christmas and new year. Although I went to a birthday bash on Saturday night and was obviously sober. The scary thing about it was that other people spent ages commenting that there was something different about me and eventually realised it was because I wasn't drunk, offensive, swearing loads and making a pratt of myself!! Nice to know how people think of me!

HQ, I've noticed that I'm a bit free and easy in my use of exclamation too!!!! (Trying to prove a point there!)

skidoodle · 12/11/2007 11:37

excessive exclamation-mark use is a well-known pregnancy symptom!! it's our bodies developing a more sensitive fright-or-flight mechanism - higher levels of surprise at rather ordinary things are just nature's way of helping us to become good mothers!!!

hi there all. sorry I never got back into the birth partner discussion: last week ended up being one where habits changed due to the (hurray!) completion of the downstairs living room. I found the discussion really useful though and I'm going to give the whole matter some more thought.

I'm in New York at the moment (I think someone else is too - Marchmum?) and lying in bed in my friend's apartment at 6.30am. Stupid jetlag combined with night-time weeing means this is my most alert time of the day.

gingercat12 · 12/11/2007 11:48

Glad everybody else had a lovely weekend.

DH and I went to John Lewis to have a look at pushchairs. It was very illuminating. Funnily enough we instantly liked the same one. Although we have been discussing it for ages now. We'll wait a little bit to make sure we do not change our mind, and then buy it Of course, I am still looking. The Buggies from Birth thread was a great help.

LO is normally very wriggly, but today he is knackered. Yesterday we watched footie in the pub. DH was jumping up and down, and LO did the same. It was so sweet (even if it is probably just a coincidence)! This morning I had a 40-length (1000 metres) swim, and I think LO will sleep through the day apart from the occasional turn

I was hoping to go out this New Years Eve, but DH does not think I'll be able to. We might travel from one set of parents to the other though.

skidoodle · 12/11/2007 12:02

For NYE we have rented some cottages with some friends so it should be ideal for a pregnant lady as I will be able to hang out with people until I get tired and then slip off to bed without any hassle or even DH having to leave the festivities. It's also his 40 birthday, so I really wouldn't want him to have to miss the fun.

gingercat, well done on your 40 lengths. I always aim for that but I seem to get bored somewhere around 20. I haven't been swimming for ages, but I think you've inspired me to go today.

I always wonder too if the LO responds to DH. Someone was saying earlier (3mb) that their LO goes all quiet when their DH is close by and I have found the same. All the flipping about stops when DH talks or tries to feel for some kicking (still has felt nothing). He reckons the LO is afraid of him and says that's good as he plans to be the voice of authority for the baby

turtle23 · 12/11/2007 12:16

My LO is just the opposite. Every time I snuggle into DH in bed it's like he knows and starts kicking violently! Same if he hears him (DH is sing to the bump obsessed). I think it's quite sweet, as am assuming they're kicks of happiness and not "get away from me!"

Hi all,

Gosh you've all been busy shopping and going away - New York, very jealous! Did you pack an extra suitcase for bringing back clothes etc?

I FINALLY have my scan this week, Wednesday night at 6:45pm, only two more sleeps to go as my little sister would say. I'm very excited however things are incredibly stressful at home as you can imagine if you saw my "Am I being unreasonable?" post this morning. Really could do with a BIG glass of wine!

Has anyone indulged in any alcohol at all so far? I had a small glass of vino a couple of weeks ago and it was so lovely and I didn't want to stop so decided not to bother anymore!

For NYE I am going to a house party that my dp is DJing at, hoping I can last! I stayed out until 1am on Fri and 2am on Sat this weekend, I was very impressed with myself although I did sleep until 2pm on Sunday to make up for it. Felt like a teenager again!

Let's hope this shapes up to being a good week

e14mum · 12/11/2007 12:21

Oh... I've been convinced to go out in London on NYE this year! DH reckons its the last time we'll be able to conveniently for a while... and I've never been before so actually looking forward to it! (At least right now I am...)

preggersagain · 12/11/2007 12:22

cl i have vowed never to touch the stuff again after a small glass of red wine (after months of not drinking) lead to the mother of all hangovers!

hope this week is a good one- anyone else feeling strangely bouncy??

e14mum · 12/11/2007 12:29

Yikes Lauren! Have just read your other post. Hope you're doing ok.

I have had a small glass here and there after about 15 weeks. But it does make me feel tipsy/sleepy/wobbly right away!

preggers, don't feel bouncy at the mo- feel hungry and yawn-y. Mondays!

turtle23 · 12/11/2007 13:48

Finally had my homebirth assessment...midwife giggled when she measured me and said "you sure of those dates, then, darling? You're enormous!"
Very nice encouraging visit though. Nice to be reminded that it's now into countdown to birth rather than counting up to 20 week scan!

OP posts:
ClaphamLauren · 12/11/2007 13:50

Definitely not feeling bouncy, could very easily curl up under my desk and nod off! No matter how much sleep I have it never seems to be enough these days.

e14 - I'm ok thanks, just way more stressed than I need to be and just had to argue with tfl about my oyster card that I lost too. Grr! My blood pressure must be through the roof.

Glad some others have indulged. Has anyone found it hard to stop drinking? Or smoking? I used to be a social smoker and for the first time the other day I really fancied a cigarette - didn't have one, obviously.

I just had apple crumble for lunch, yummy! Think I'll keep indulging in all the naughty food I don't normally eat.

e14mum · 12/11/2007 14:03

Cravings for creamy things like butter, whipped cream, buttercream icing, sour cream, etc here! Strange I know, but even just thinking about it makes me slightly satisfied (as there's nothing readily available here in the office!). Last night I was icing a cake and ate half of the bowl of buttery icing myself... pickles no more, dairy here I come!

WinkyGirl · 12/11/2007 14:09

Yes preggersagain I had a very bouncy weekend! And it reminded me that I loved 16 - 30 weeks during my last pregnancy. Obviously pregnant, sorting/preparing the house for the baby's arrival and having a burst of energy (providing I got early nights etc.)

e14Mum I am also a big butter fan at the moment (hot buttered toast for breakfast everyday - yum) but can also still polish of 5 pickled onions in one sitting

I also started having a couple of small glasses of wine a week after 18 weeks. Didnt fancy it before but I do now!

3madboys · 12/11/2007 14:25

i am full of energy too

i blitzed the boys bedroom at the weekend, i have a pile of stuff for the charity shop and three binbags of rubbish.

now started on the spare room as ds1 is going to move into it and then ds3 will go in with ds3, making space for the baby

ds3 has thoroughly impressed me the past few days as he has decided to use the potty wooohoo, i wanted him out of nappies before the baby arrives but didnt want to push him, but he has gone and done it himself

HolidaysQueen · 12/11/2007 14:38

Lauren - I didn't find it too hard to cut back on drinking, although I haven't stopped completely. We have always tended to have a bottle on the go at home and I would normally have a glass most evenings, but I just haven't really missed it, which surprised me. I had a couple of glasses before 12 weeks (basically my birthday and DH's birthday) and then have probably averaged a glass a week since then. Having said that some weeks I've had none but then this weekend I had a glass both Saturday and Sunday as I felt in the mood. My midwife was absolutely fine about it when I said I was probably having 1-2 units per week - indeed I think the recent NICE advice is that 1 unit per day is absolutely fine. I've tried to have smaller glasses than normal so that I am having more like 1 unit rather than the usual 2-3 per glass!

Having said all that (and worrying now that I sound like a drunkard as everyone seems to be better behaved than me ), I just can't face the thought of anything other than wine - don't really like beer anyway but somehow a shot of vodka seems far more harmful than a unit of wine, even if it's exactly the same effect!

studentmum1 · 12/11/2007 14:51

hiya everyone, i haven't been on mumsnet in ages! i had my mural job and its taken 8 weeks to complete, very exchausting!!

has everyone got bumps? i need details! i am pretty much flat as a pancake want to look blooming but most definatly don't!

We are going away to disneyland just before christmas so i'm very excited at the mo!

i can't believe everyone is all getting ready with nursery and pushchair buying! i've done nothing yet, but to be honest i don't feel very pregnant yet so would feel very premature! my scan is in a couple of weeks, mines quite late as i'll be nearly 23 weeks then. x

gingercat12 · 12/11/2007 16:16

I cannot bear the thought or smell of alcohol at the mo. What kind of little boy is mine?! He also seems to hate chocolate. Normally I would love nice wine and chocolate. Not at the same time though.

studentmum1 I do not have a bump any more, it is more like I swallowed a whole football, and it is only the 24th week. I'll have to ask the MW whether it is normal. I'd prefer to be middle of the road. I do not suppose there is right or wrong size of bump.

3madboys · 12/11/2007 16:23

studentmum i have literally just got a bump in the last week or so, i am now 24and a bit weeks

but i am at that stage where people wont ask if you are preg just incase you are not iyswim?

merryberry · 12/11/2007 16:28

lovely reading your news. sorry am so unforthcoming at present. am wading thru the THIRTY NINE PAGES of notes, instructions and related evidence chasing required to apply for maternity allowance.

as i have been employed, employed by another, and self-employed as at present all in the relevant 66 weeks they test, it's so complex it's funny.

i reckon will take me a week to assemble all properly. and fully expect to get thrupence ha'penny a week for my pains.

ClaphamLauren · 12/11/2007 16:55

I think pictures of bumps on profiles should be mandatory from here on in... with new ones up every month!

spugs · 12/11/2007 17:27

i have a bump for me iyswim but i think its another case of no one would dare ask in case i was just a funny shape!

madboys - my room arrangements sound the same as yours dd1s going in her own room and dd2 &3 are going to share so i have 2 bedrooms to redecorate. busy doing the living room, hall and stairs at the minute so the house is out the window which i hate. doing a major decluter as well as the amount of rubbish we have knocking about is unbelivable.

if anyones in the north east and would like a blue baby warderope and chest of draws im getting rid of. there in really good condition but dd1 has covered them in stickers which should come of easily enough.

the draws dont have 2 little ones but one big long one.
the wardrope is the shorter one then this and only has 2 draws. any way if anyone wants let me know

doup76 · 12/11/2007 17:44

Now the weather has got cold, I would love nothing more than a nice glass of red wine! Unfortunately I have such bad reflux that I can't even let the stuff touch my lips !
Am finding solace in using plenty of wine in cooking......
