Morning ladies! Haven't read all posts since my last visit, just the ones on this page.
Just wanted to say, really wouldn't give weight estimations and credit myself. They estimated my dd's weight a week before she was born, saying there was something percent difference either way. I worked it out after, and they were basically saying she was somewhere between 7 and 10lbs!! I would have said that was pretty normal for most babes, isn't it!!
Derah, sorry to hear dd is unwell. How old is she? I am off work again today with a poorly 8 yo dd, having alread been off last Monday and Wednesday with sick ds and Thurs and Fri with sick dd!! Was also off on Tuesday sick myself!

HQ, I too have to wait til 22 weeks next Tues for my scan. But it has pro's as well as con's. Everyone who is scanned at 20 weeks then has to wait another whole 20 weeks til they see their baby agin....where as we will only have to wait 18!!

glammama · 08/11/2007 11:05

Anyone know about Fran Lyon's case? Details are in link and thread to lobby Today prog here Please take time to look....

SpaceHopperHayls · 08/11/2007 12:53

Hi everyone. I'm new - first baby due on March 2nd. We know what the sex is, but we're keeping it a secret. Have been meaning to join mumsnet for a while, and now that I have a proper bump I feel that I can legitimately call myself a mum, so have joined.

Short bio - I'm 25, I live in Oxfordshire, work in publishing and Bloke is in the forces.

Hope everyone is feeling well today, and is being kept as amused as I am by a baby dancing about inside them.

H x

merryberry · 08/11/2007 14:34

hello hayls, hello everyone. Not staying on long, think I'm off to hug the loo again: like some of you have said, having a first trimester patch again. Nausea, knackeredness and now spots. Oh well, sure it will clear in another day or so.

Yurgh.

gingercat12 · 08/11/2007 14:51

Welcome SpachopperHayls.

Glammama Am a bit worried about the RVI. I am supposed to give birth there...

preggersagain · 08/11/2007 14:54

Hello to hayls- mb hope the sickness eases soon.

I've got a stinking cold- last night was a vicious circle so i didn't get much sleep at all- throat hurting so constantly drinking to soothe throat- thus constantly needing to pee- then drink more- pee more etc etc!
then dh decided to get out of bed (i was doing my best man-flu wimpering impression at the time ) to make me a warm honey and lemon drink- worked really well, throat felt much better, settled down to sleep then realised that the honey had given me heartburn!!

I have just been presented with two massive sacks of girls baby clothes by a mum at the school- some are lovely but others you've got to wonder where she got them from!!!
Am i unusual for not liking hand-knitted stuff?? and jeans for a newborn- why???

Oh and apparently girls don't HAVE to be dressed in pink- not sure i believe that but i shall not be trying it . Anyone who does fancy giving it a go i have lemon/green/lilac by the bag full here (although one of the babies the clothes have come from has gorgeous carrot hair- so pink isn't really an option there )

merryberry · 08/11/2007 15:13

never got that either, the mini clothes for newborns: they are often so tight / stiff / rough.

not to mention complicated and rapidly covered with sickup, i can just imagine how that would cling to zips etc.

am making meself feel sick.

stoppit.

e14mum · 08/11/2007 15:39

hello!

preggers, do you dress your twins alike? Just curious...

I do like some handknit cardigans- although I know what you mean about some knit stuff. My gran has been sending me pictures of all-in-ones from the 70's to see if I like any of them! I'd like her to knit the baby something, maybe a blanket so that LO will always have it, but some of the patterns she has are awful!

And I agree about jeans for newborns- my baby is wearing babygros for the first little while...

preggersagain · 08/11/2007 15:45

i dressed the boys alike- purely and simply becasue you got two packs of joggers and tops- really simple so they did tend to look similar. If we buy specific outfits for an occasion then they dress the same and will do for a good few years i would imagine. They still wear matching pj's/ dressing gowns/ slippers etc but mainly to save arguements!!!

So far these twins will be dressed the same in the early days due to everyone rushing out and buying two of everything for them- two matching pink bouncy chairs arrived on the doorstep earlier - i think its one of those things you either can't stand it or you can't help it!!!

Me and my twin sis were dressed alike but in different colours iyswim, i would wear pink she'd be in the same clothes just in purple etc.

HolidaysQueen · 08/11/2007 16:06

I think I am going to be getting lots of handknits as my family has always been big on knitting for baby (hence my current pathetic attempts at making a pram blanket so I can keep the family tradition going) but I've told my mum I only want cardies as the homemade look works for them and are also great for putting over babygros which my baby will be living in for at least 6 months (definitely no jeans!) Some stuff is just hideous or pointless (woollen babygros, bootees, dresses...)

My mum is also giving me a blanket that my nana made for me - both I and my little brother were brought home from hospital in it, so I plan to bring my baby home in it too as it will be nice to have a little tradition and to have something from my nana with me (she died 18 years ago) for such a momentous event.

e14 mum - I'd definitely recommend you get your gran to make a blanket for you, and maybe say that you want to use it at the hospital and at the christening (if you are having one, or something else similar) - that way she might agree to make it in a plain colour so not too hideous!!! Another alternative is a toy - handknitted animals can look really cute, are soft and have no little parts that the baby will choke on.

piggyp · 08/11/2007 16:58

Hello SpaceHopper
HQ - Glad I am not the only one being knitted for! MIL has knitted several jackets (I hope they are actually cardigans) and even offered to knit a cardigan for me! Horrors! I politely suggested that baby things would be more useful! I'm a bit worried about how i'll wash the things but they sound nice and cosy. The worrying thing is that I too am feeling the urge to knit - but no idea how to start! Any suggestions?

glammama · 08/11/2007 17:03

Gingercat I'm confused, help me out ...what's the RVI?
HolidaysQueen I take serious umbrage at your assertion that some knitted clothes are either pointless or hideous- little knitted dresses are darling My DD had a selection of gorgeous creations, I especially have fond memories of a lemon number I picked up in a Christmas bazaar.
Talking of which, need to dive in here Santa calls If I'm not back in an hour, someone call the tat police.
Hope everyone is ok and a big welcome to Hayls.

e14mum · 08/11/2007 17:07

yup, we're on the same wavelength HQ...
The last baby she had to knit for is my 14-yo cousin, and before that it was my 23-yo baby brother, so it's no wonder her patterns are all out of date. I wish I could show you the pics...

You're a twin too preggers?! Wow...

glammama · 08/11/2007 17:11

i love stockings!

glammama · 08/11/2007 17:46

oops just realised that I just put my full name on that link.... how do I get that removed as I think I have an open account??? help!

HolidaysQueen · 08/11/2007 20:26

Glammama - okay, I concede the point on dresses - there are some cute knitted ones around. But I will always maintain that woollen babygros are hideous, particularly if they are your own brown, orange and purple relics from the 70s as one friend discovered when his mum handed over all his baby clothes for him to use with his own son...

Piggyp - I bought a book in John Lewis called Baby Knits for Beginners by somebody called Debbie Bliss (doesn't she sound exactly like somebody who would knit?). It starts with a scarf, then a blanket (that's where I am with it) and progresses to cardigans, hats etc. It's really simple and well explained, and the things in there are surprisingly nice. Well, surprisingly nice when she knits them - probably hideous when I attempt them.

I sound more and more like a 70 year old granny! I am finding knitting little colourful squares really relaxing and my blanket is now halfway finished. It definitely has the 'homemade' look, and DH just looks bemused when I proudly show my progress to him, but I'm irrationally proud of it

HolidaysQueen · 08/11/2007 20:28

Glammama - I think you might be safe - when I click on your links it doesn't seem to have your name anywhere and wants me to login.

glammama · 08/11/2007 20:30

HQ, I put my thinking cap on, clicked on the link and logged out!! I work in IT, you know That book sounds fab, I'm going to look it up on Amazon.

tori32 · 08/11/2007 21:35

Hi everyone! Just checking in to say that I'm still alive and kicking! (Thanks for the reminder that I haven't checked in for ages TURTLE!

Well lots of things have been going on for me recently. My niece was born a couple of weeks ago so we all went north to see her at the weekend. We also took dd to see Blackpool illuminations which she loved almost as much as the tram!! My parents and brother/ SIL all live about 20 miles away from there.

My niece is gorgeous and doing really well. SIL is doing well with bfg and she is only feeding once in the night (wow)!

We had lots of fun over Halloween. I had no intention of taking dd trick or treating as she is only 20mths, however, we took her in her spider costume (bought for her to answer the door in!) to see my friend. When we got back she was ademant she wanted to join the tribe of children walking past the house, so we ended up following the said tribe. She thoroughly enjoyed herself as she doesn't often go out in the dark.

We also went to the camp fireworks display which she enjoyed on Monday night.

Now for the important news, I had my scan on Friday, all measurements fine. Baby was very unco-operative and refused to turn, lazy lump was just chilled on its back the whole time! So I think its a boy but they couldn't see its bits for me to find out. I was happy about that, dh was itching to find out. They also said I might get more scans because dd was big, so I might get another sneak preview nearer the time

Congratulations on everyone elses scan news. I haven't had time to read every post I have missed but hope you are all well and will try better to keep up!

P.S. I am still in my normal jeans which feels very strange as last time I was in maternity clothes at 3.5 mths. So far I have put on just over a stone, so i was pleased when all was well on the scan.

tori32 · 08/11/2007 21:36

sorry had a time lapse dd is now 22mths

MarchMum · 09/11/2007 06:14

Hello - am off to New York today for a week and then Canada so quick message before I go to LHR, ie eigth circle of hell.

All this talk of knitting, we are getting clucky! - if you don't think knit things are nice, come to the new Bonpoint on Marylebone High St. They have lovely soft knitted things.

Back to the measurements, LO is just like Derah's - smaller abodomen (but still in normal range) but long for her age. I got all concerned about the small abdomen thing (bc I was so sick) but dr rolled eyes and showed me the bar on the printout and said as long as in that normal range it's OK and could move towards average as time moves on.

Today I saw the baby moving from the outside of my stomach - how alien like!! :.)

PS Humour award today (of which there are many contenders) goes to Glammama and the wizard's sleeve remark - you guys make me laugh!

merryberry · 09/11/2007 08:03

I'm still grinning at glammamma's technical wizadry! Blame the pg brain, glam!

c4it · 09/11/2007 09:09

Hello, not sure if you remember me, but I'm a serial lurker . Anyway I had my scan yesterday and its another boy. We are very pleased cos we've already got a DD aged nearly 2, but I was totally convinced this was another girl.

PurlyQueen · 09/11/2007 13:53

Hi all, Had my scan this morning and everything's fine, thank goodness!

I didn't ask about the sex and they didn't tell me, which was fine by me as I don't mind what sex my baby is .

HolidaysQueen · 09/11/2007 14:02

Congrats on the scans, PurlyQueen and c4it!

My baby is being so active today. He/she was kicking me quite hard this morning - got DH to put his hand on my tummy and he could feel it (hasn't been able to before), so he had a really smiley start to Friday

And now I'm sat at my desk and baby is having a party in my tummy! I can normally can only really feel the baby moving when I'm in bed so it's really weird (but lovely) to feel him or her having fun during the day, especially as I am having no fun at all at work today - can't wait for the weekend to start!!!
