Hope the scan goes ok turtle, I'm sure it will. Congrats on the girl spugs, as you say you have lots of your other dd's stuff you can re-use, so that will help.

Had a midwife/doctors appointment yesterday, everything was fine. Was on my own as dp had a meeting he couldn't get ut of, but he wished he did now. The doctor surprised me by saying pop up onto the bed and we'll have a look at baby. Thinking she meant have a prod. Then realised that there was a small portable scanning machine in the room, and the next thing I know she's squirting jelly on my tummy and Junior has popped up on the screen. That was such a lovely surprise I wasn't expecting to see him again until the birth. She also confirmed what the sonographer said on Friday that it was a boy and pointed out the testicles on screen. Dp was so when I told him.

Anyone else quite liking Crunchies at the moment. Seem to be addicted to them

glammama · 07/11/2007 13:39

Timmy, I bought a bag of mini chocolate bars for Trick or Treaters. Nobody came (I live in a mostly Bengali area)so I thought I'd give them to DD. DD was at her dad's this weekend and there are precisely 2 mini chocolate bars left Plus I've been on a Gu chocolate brownie tip this week. It was Jackie Chan in my uterus, he made me do it!

MarchMum · 07/11/2007 15:39

Hi everyone - have just been reading through the messages and laughing at all the witty march mums. I am having a 1st trimester morning sickness type day - yuck! Was feeling so good so this is a bit of a set back. Couldn't even look at food today - although I was at Valerie Patisserie in Marylebone yesterday and thought of you all.

I am def thinking about a doula to support us meaning me and dh - and advocate with NHS if needed. I hope it's not too late, better get on it! No parents or other people invited to the hospital much less the birth - a) I want to get outta there ASAP and b) am too private and want those first hours to be just 'our family'.

LO is good - growing, lots of movement but not causing too much trouble :.) Boobs also behaving at 34G. Just one thing and I was going to ask if anyone else has this - little silver flashes in the corner of my eyes - not floaters but quick pulses. Dr called opthamologist and he says not common but not abnormal. Hmmm...

Congrats on more girls and Order of Canada - what was it for? It's a really big deal!

Gotta get back to work as am leaving for 10 days Fri morning and too much to do! Thanks for the distraction....

3madboys · 07/11/2007 16:00

wow lots to catch up on

congrats to all those who have had scans, are we evens now with boys and girls? i havent seen the updated stats thread.

my bump is little but VERY wriggly, the boys have felt baby kicking and i dont think he likes it very much when ds3 sits on my lap to bfeed, he goes mad kicking and wriggling

my sickness has come back a bit which is irritating, oh and this cold weather is soooooo NOT good with tender preg breasts, my nipples are agony when they get cold.

other than that all is well, i will be 24wks on friday, cant belive i only have 16wks to go that really doesnt sound long at all.

PurlyQueen · 07/11/2007 16:08

Nah - it's milk chocolate digestives for me

timmyinatizzy · 07/11/2007 16:15

Agreed 3mb 16 weeks doesn't sound very long at all . It feels longer away when I say March next year

Just found out that a work colleague who I have known for years is also pregnant. She is due in May 2008 and doesn't live far from me. Think we may spend some post natal time together!

e14mum · 07/11/2007 16:46

Marchmum- do you get them in time to your heartbeat? Past couple of mornings lying bed have noticed something like that, but more like pulses. Like when you can hear your heart beating in your ears, but see it instead.
Sorry if that sounds weird!

turtle23 · 07/11/2007 16:50

Just got home from scan (and in-laws after.) All is well, and it's another boy. Had my heart set on a girl but am just pleased he's ok. He's going to be called Tristan or Pascal.
Am very nervous about one thing though...he's at the top top top end for abdomen circumference and weight. He's going to be enormous by all accounts. Has anyone got experience with this sort of thing? The good news is that his skull is smaller (a bit) than average so at least I stand a chance!!
Anybody mind telling me how much their LO weighed at 20 weeks?

OP posts:
turtle23 · 07/11/2007 16:51

Oh and for the canucks among us...it will be awarded for contributions in the arts to Canada. He's a musician.
BTW...when I said another boy I meant for the group, not for me...he's my first!

OP posts:
MerlinsBeard · 07/11/2007 16:56

What was your abdominal circumference? i don't mind sharing...don't have it to hand at mo but will do later/2mo. Nothing was mentioned to me about big or small. i think they were worried about the placenta more!

turtle23 · 07/11/2007 17:04

think it was 170.

OP posts:
turtle23 · 07/11/2007 17:05
  1. found it. baby weighs something like 425g. Gulp.

PurlyQueen · 07/11/2007 17:27

Am v jealous of everyone's scan news. Mine still feels like ages away even though its on Friday morning.

I can feel the baby wriggling inside me although DH can't feel it yet (thanks to the extra layer of 'insulation' on my stomach!).

I am still determined not to find out the sex, though a lady is allowed to change her mind!

glammama · 07/11/2007 17:54

Turtle, my baby's abdominal circumference is 173 cm. It's the shoulders I'm more worried about it. Shouldn't be too much of a problem though as I have a fanny like a wizard's sleeve

turtle23 · 07/11/2007 17:57

Glam..thanks for that :O
I'm sure it will all be fine, just a bit paranoid that they'll try and make me go to hospital if it's humongous. Will sit at home bathing in raspberry leaf tea, eating curry and bonking in pineapple juice at 37 weeks if so!

OP posts:
spugs · 07/11/2007 18:06

my babies abdominal circ is 147 mm which is about average for 20+2, has long legs though 35mm (femur length). they dont tell you how heavy baby is here. does anyone know wjhat the biparietal diamiter is? thats quite big apparently 50mm.

turtle23 · 07/11/2007 18:12

spugs--the distance between the parietal bones in the skull.

piggyp · 07/11/2007 18:33

So much exciting news - all these little girls!!
Turtle - congats on scan! Our LO was right at the top of the 'normal zone' on the graph ie big in abdomen head and legs, don't know about wheight. All they said was 'lots can change'. I'm only 5ft 3 and size 8 (well I was!!) so I have decided not to think about it at all! After all what can we do. Is it very obvious that I am a first timer?

derah · 07/11/2007 18:39

My LO has above average femur length, (38.3mm) and below average abdomen (163.0mm), so is long and thin.... obviously takes after DH and not me then! . Weight is 454g. But this is at 22 weeks.....

Poor little DD has a chest infection. I was supposed to be at work today, and I've run out of annual leave, but had to stay home with her. DH said he'd stay home instead cos he still has lots of leave, but he'd have to go into work first to ask them if it's OK. Um, yeah, right! I really don't get why he couldn't just call! He says it's because it would be annual leave rather than a sick day. Um, so? I told him that there wasn't any point in that since I would have lost most of the day before he got back, and DD had a doctor's appt to get to anyway. Sigh.... why do men make things so complicated!?!

Anyway, DH is out late tonight at a pub quiz (work do) and I've been home all day with a sick DD. I really need a girls' night out but sadly don't have any local friends to go out with (and wouldn't have a clue where to go anyway!)

onemore · 07/11/2007 19:47

Hi everyone! I haven't been on here for ages but have been popping in to read every now and again.

Glad you're all progressing nicely, everything fine with me, it's so nice feeling baby moving and getting a bump, makes you feel that it is actually happening?

All this talk of measurements just confuses me - I just think that if the mw thinks anything is not normal they'd say something! anything other than that is fine with me!

It's interesting seeing what some of you are having, my 20wk scan is a week today and I'm pretty sure we're going to find out this time. We didn't for the other 4 but my curiosity is getting the better of me for some reason this time? maybe cause I know it's going to be my last??! But I think we'll (try) and keep it to ourselves in the real world, don't know how hard that will be??!

Take care everyone x

littleducks · 07/11/2007 21:19

my scan went well, all is fine atm with baby, i always sigh with relief when i see a heartbeat, this time i have felt less kicks but that is prob because placenta is at the front.

i bought myself a bump belt from jojo maman bebe too try and alleviate my backache, it feels very comfy atm. will let you all know if it works!

3madboys · 07/11/2007 22:12

turtle the sonographer said my baby was measuring big, his head and abdominal circumference were right at the top end of the scale, she also said he was long, i dont think she mentioned the weight but i will check in my notes.

my last two babies were both over 9lb and the boys all have big heads (like their dad) but the birth etc was fine, no stiches etc none of them fitted in newborn clothes and they grew out of 0-3mths within a few weeks, just too long for them

HolidaysQueen · 08/11/2007 08:57

Morning all -

I'm slightly scared at all these numbers you're throwing around like confetti Do they give you a print out or something of all the measurements or do you have to sit there taking notes while they scan you...?

I still have TWO MORE WEEKS to wait for my scan as my hospital have decided in their infinite wisdom to have mums hanging on until 22 weeks. AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!

I'm also pleased to report that I've turned into a 70 year old nana. I have spent every evening this week sat in front of the tv with a mug of warm milk knitting a baby blanket. I don't even really know how to knit but freaked out last week after a work meeting on the redundancy thing and ended up in John Lewis buying patterns and needles and wool! I think creating a cosy, soft-focus home life is my subconscious's way of burying its head in the sand about the situation at work.

imjin100 · 08/11/2007 09:38

no time to read although congrats to all the scan news, and good luck to those still waiting. HQ fear not I also had to wait till 22 weeks - don't worry - the time will suddenly come and you will be thrilled!
Just to let you know I'm off on holiday for the next 10 days or so - we're going to egypt - the most amazing trip planning and I can't wait - bring it on! The fact that I cried last night when trying on summer clothes and realised I had in fact turned into a sack of potatoes is a minor detail and one I've sort of dealt with - who cares is my attitude, pregnant and proud will be my moto. DH is a bit concerned about the egyptians starring at my boobs but on the basis that they are bigger than my head (according to my darling cousin!) what can you do!

have a fun time all, good luck with everything and i'll be back before you know it waiting to hear all the news.

HolidaysQueen · 08/11/2007 10:02

Thanks, Imjin! I feel better knowing it's not just my hospital who enjoys making women wait...
I hope you have a fabulous time in Egypt!!! In my experience, all men stare at pregnant boobs, whether Egyptian or not
