New thread for you!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
glammama · 02/11/2007 13:48

CL, like little ducks, I think it's good that you've been diagnosed. And don't worry about things taking a nosedive, expect things to be ok and you know what? They just might!
Imjin I found the Peach and Raspberry Soothers to work wonders on an evil sore throat. Hope you feel better soon.
Derah, that's a tricky one. I'm from a Jewish family too but it's all very relaxed, bacon butties on the way to synagogue, that sort of thing. I do believe that you have to do what you personally think is right. But it isn't my place to say any more.
Prisci I don't think you have to tell work until the 26th week and they really should be better. Are you in a union?
Right, better get out of my nightie . Picking DD up from school and taking her up Oxford Street to buy her some boots. Have to take a load of cash as some ba*rds cloned my bank card and bank put a stop on it when they realised I wasn't paying £300 for God knows what in Italy yesterday.

feedmenow · 02/11/2007 14:10

Glammama, just wanted to reassure you that your dp's size might not effect size of baby at all. I am 5' exactly, my dp was 6'2" and generally a big bloke. But our dd was born 5 days past due date weighing a perfect 7lb 8oz. Although that is a real bummer about the oddly positioned organs. Why does that effect penetration, if you don't mind me asking?

I am getting a bit frustrated now that everyone else on here seems to have been for their scan, or have it very soon. I still feel like I have to wait ages until 13th!

glammama · 02/11/2007 14:20

Thanks feedmenow. at your use of the word bummer....can't do that in pregnancy either I believe!!
I believe the penetration aspect is an issue as birth canal is next to baby's head!!!DR said there was a risk of bleeding. Anyone seen Knocked Up? Well, DP was squeamish about knocking on baby's door anyway. I did say to him that although he is obviously very well endowed it's not going to reach that far!!!! What gets me is that we've been chugging along very merrily and had no bleeding except for one tiny bit at 12 weeks and why would it be different now. I don't mean to be too graphic but in pregnancy we've not exactly been like we were pre baby in terms of vigour if you know what I mean. It's only been 2 days since the ban and we both nearly cracked already. Don't think I can last till March/April.
But thanks for reassuring me about baby's size. I did joke about eating only Wispas to avoid baby getting big and strong but that didn't go down to well with DP. Think he half believed me!

derah · 02/11/2007 14:27

Glammama - glad you sympathise. Thing is, DH is a Jewish atheist, if there can be such a thing. He eats pork, doesn't care about holidays etc. So I fail to see why the only part of his religion/culture that he does want to follow is chopping bits off our child! Oh well, I'll try not to worry about it until I see the poor threatened baby winky on the scan!!!

Baby is very bouncy today. Seems to have found my bladder is fun to bounce on! Luckily it just tickles and feels weird this early on. Bladder bouncing is very uncomfortable when baby gets bigger!!

glammama · 02/11/2007 14:37

Derah, it always amazes me about choosing that one aspect of the religion to cling on to. I'm all for picking and choosing but why pick the circumcision one and not the groovy Festival of Light one? If he has an atheist slant would it work to mention that there isn't much sand round your way to get under baby's foreskin and start an infection? I believe that was the originating reason why it's so popular amongst Jewish and Arab people. There have been so many people in your situation, I'm sure there's tons on the internet if you need to gather an arsenal of evidence in your defence....

derah · 02/11/2007 15:16

Hmm, sand! That would make sense! Though DH is Israeli and we might end up back in Israel... still not much sand encountered in modern Israeli life!

I'd just prefer to give the poor kid a choice! It might hurt later on but at least he would know what's happening. Like, it's probably inevitable that DD will want her ears piercing at some point but I'm not about to pierce them now to save her remembering the pain later on!!!

imjin100 · 02/11/2007 15:22

Can't commment on the circumstition thing (which is luck as have lost ability to type or spell) but just thought i'd tell you I have started a new thread...this time unrelated to buggies - phew - now I'm onto buying new saucepans, non nonstick variety...oh the joys!

happy days

MarchMum · 02/11/2007 16:02

Prisci - I need baby grow addiction therapy but have not bought any since last weekend so feel that's a start. Have many ideas on Baby Pags - Oi Oi, Matt and Nat (Cdn company!), Petunia Pickle Bottom (weird name, nice bags), Dwell Baby and then some random ones on Blooming Marvelous, Jojo Maman Bebe and the like. John Lewis has an OK selection but kind of boring and Harrod's has a few good ones that were similar prices to the rest on this list. Seraphine is nice for all maternity wear but I haven't seen their bags.

There's been mention of Zara and H and M maternity but when go in I can never find -am I mad?

LOL at the Riverdance, I had a perfomance yesterday afternoon. All is quiet now as I went out til 2:30 last night (friends in town) so LO is very quiet today!

Derah - quite the dilemna, this might be TMI but thought I'd share - we are not Jewish but my father once said to me (in a rare yet emphatic show of private talk) that if I had a son could I please please circumcise him. His words - 'it's horribly annoying and uncomfortable for a man not to be circumcised'. Just thought I'd give you something to comfort yourself with if you end up succumbing!

Off for a nap...

e14mum · 02/11/2007 16:15

Hey Marchmum, the Marble Arch H&M has maternity upstairs. Not sure which Zara ones do...
Is it more mainstream North American to circumsise (not just Jewish)? tbh, (and tmi) I thought it was normal until I met my British DH and moved to the UK!
Have a great weekend girls!

HolidaysQueen · 02/11/2007 16:28

Marchmum - I don't think H&M do maternity wear in all their shops. Their website - hm.com - says which shops stock it so you could check there. It's called mama rather than maternity.

It was actually next to babywear rather than in the women's clothes section when I went so it took me a while to find it - although I then nearly spent a similar fortune on baby clothes, so they clearly know that pregnant women get very excited by small babygros and have positioned their products accordingly

timmyinatizzy · 02/11/2007 16:33

Afternoon everyone. Been back from the scan about an hour and picked up the dsd's from school. All is fine with Junior, its measuring in the normal range for the dates. Well the lovely ultrasound lady had a look and she is 90% sure that it is a BOY, she said there was something between the legs! Sorry to add to all the blue on the thread, hopefully we'll get some more girls soon. You never know we'll have enough boys to start off our own football team

Anyway we are not telling anyone that we found out and will keep it a surprise for all the family and friends. Keep em guessing

Right off to make a celebratory spag bol now. Catch up later.

imjin100 · 02/11/2007 16:36

great news timmy, how exciting. Perhaps the majority of girls will be those who are suprised to balance it out!
nearly the weekend, bring it on!
happy shopping to all those you are hitting the shops.

spugs · 02/11/2007 17:20

congrats to timmy and mom on the boys and preggers on her girls

papaya · 02/11/2007 17:43

congrats timmy

modsaluk · 02/11/2007 19:56

Hi all, thought i would check in not really had time to get on computer much, sold our house and bought a house which fell through then found another one and has been accepted but soooooo stressfull spent most of the last two weeks crying.

Got my scan next week so really looking forward to that, i think i am havin a boy and a girl but probably wrong, did any of you think you knew what you are havin but proved wrong ?

Not felt any definate kicks but flutters.

Hope you are all ok.

modsaluk · 02/11/2007 19:57

oh by the way dont think i like the new layout of the site now.

monthlymayhem · 02/11/2007 22:20

Hello

Congrats to all those with scan news

Sweetkitty - I am so pleased for you, that's fantastic news

I've been feeling pretty crap for the last day or two (given that I had no ms or symptoms during first 4 months I guess it's my turn..). I've had a continual tummy ache which kept me up most of last night, not really because it was hugely painful, more just from worrying..but got doppler out this morning and got a nice strong hb so assume it is things stretching. My bump has popped out this week so guess something had to be pushed out the way.

Went for a swim and that has helped a bit, so am now tucked up on the sofa with a box of maltesers which seem to have a hole in the bottom as they're disappearing so quickly

skidoodle · 03/11/2007 01:21

hi all, it's been a while for me.

cogratulations on all the scan news and also to sweetkitty on your BFP, so pleased to hear that.

we had our scan last week and my mum came too. it was really interesting and the LO was incredibly active. the sonographer kept remarking on the level of activity. my placenta is at the front so I hadn't been feeling much activity up until then, just the odd little flutter.

Now I'm getting lots of kicks, starting to really believe there's a baby in there and feeling a lot more relaxed about the whole thing. perhaps that's why I've been posting less here.

anyway, glad to hear everything's going well in the main. I'll be reading if not posting.

chat later, sdoodle.

turtle23 · 03/11/2007 16:39

I feel so stupid. Had a lovely time shopping for maternity clothes with DH, had a nice lunch...DH went to meet a friend for coffee while I looked at the gift shops and I immediately tripped on the kerb, flew off the pavement, fell into the road in the path of oncoming traffic. Have enormous bloody mess for a knee, bruised hands and hurt pride. Woman who helped me up took one look at my Blooming Marvelous bags and said "You should have been more careful in your condition, dear." It really upset me.
Enough whinging...congrats to all the scans and especially to kitty on her BFP!

Ow ow! We were at local firework display, and a hot lump of something landed on my head and frazzled my hair!! I was trying to hand DD over to DH at the time so didn't see if it was ash from the fire or a stray bit of firework, but it darned hurt!! And is still throbbing! A smaller bit got DH on the neck. I'm just really grateful none of it got DD, but since she was between DH and I she was probably protected.

Funny girl loved the bonfire and didn't mind the bangs, but wouldn't watch the fireworks at all, just snuggled into my neck and refused to look!

glammama · 03/11/2007 21:23

You poor injured pregnant women.
Turtle, I fell like that once, but I had a tiny DD in a sling. That felt awful so I can imagine how upset you must have been. And that woman! As if you're deliberately being reckless... grrrrr
And Derah, you might have been hit by soemthing exotic like a bit of a meteorite....although your presence ata bonfire event may indicate something more pedestrian. Glad your DD was ok. Sorry you're in pain though.
Hope everyone else remains safe. I'm going to take extra care putting the kettle on now, just in case.

glammama · 04/11/2007 16:26

was it something I said?

derah · 04/11/2007 17:20

Must have been! Very quiet today.

I've got my scan tomorrow morning, very excited but nervous too. DH slightly grumpy that I "didn't give him enough notice" and now he hasn't cleared it with work. FGS, its' been on the calendar since our last scan!!!!

hellyberry · 04/11/2007 18:20

tut derah - you forgot to think for him you careless hussy!

back from lovely warm (!) sunny (!!) welsh weekend. deffo getting a bit 'hmmmm bored now' of being PG as I couldn't strip down enough layers of the old cobbled together maternity clothing to enjoy the sun, without the result frightening people.

still hate the fact my bra is called 'Doreen' So old and sad sounding!

fitnforty · 04/11/2007 20:04

lol Helly, give your bra a different name next time, make it feel better and less mature

derah and turtle, another echo of "ouch"!

We don't 'do' firework displays, have to stay in and keep the dog company while he's stoned out of his head on diazapam. Only thing that keeps him from having heart failure, particularly since the people in the house backing onto ours decided to have their own exhibition in their back garden. I'm a big advocate of banning fireworks outside of organised displays, but seems like the organised ones are pretty hairy as well!

Feeling quite accomplished today, went swimming this morning - my maternity cossie now fits! Last time i tried it on I hadn't popped out yet, so it was a bit of a shock to see how preggers i actually look in it
Also found the energy to cook dinner, followed by a walk round the local park/boating lake (cut short by locals setting off fireworks early and scaring the dog into sprinting back home with me slowly bringing up the rear!).

good luck to those having scans this week, more boys on the way?
