Sorry to hear about your friend, fitnforty.

I'm at work today until 11.30pm . Went for a walk on Hampstead Heath yesterday before vegging out in front of Strictly Come Dancing. My LO was tickling me last night -either that or it was dancing in time to the music

papaya · 28/10/2007 20:12

havent been around for the weekend sorry for lack of response piggyp!! With me it lasted around a week on and off, it would wear off then come on as quickly as someone hitting me in the back repeatadly again, not nice, Each time I was laid down for about 3 hrs a time with DD asking me if i was ok and constantly kissing my back bless her, not an ideal scenario!! It was agony, I am a sahm so I didnt have the problem of work, but if i had still been working there wouldn't have been a chance I could have gone in. Are you starting to feel any better yet? does laying on the opposite help at all?

congrats on the scan monthlymahem!! That sounds amazing, much more indepth I ever remember it being with DD.

Speaking of scans I have mine on Weds!!!!! So nervous about the anomaly scan but SO excited to see lo one as well

PurlyQueen · 28/10/2007 20:26

I hate the waiting before you go in for a scan - there's so much that goes through my mind.
I always offer up a silent prayer that everything will be fine.

hellyberry · 29/10/2007 08:33

good luck with scans this week everyone, and good luck waiting (i was so impatient). and huge congratulations to those of you who had them last week.

i have two aims this weel: more pelvic floor exercises and less manic eating. my appetite has become a pure force of nature, its outrageous. feel like i could eat 24/7.

and this am, despite religious devotion to pelvic floor exercises, i coughed and wee'd a bit . was a shocker, not had a problem before.

e14mum · 29/10/2007 11:05

Good morning, just got in from scan- it went really well, despite me knocking the sonographer's coffee all over the floor!! (those rooms are TINY) LO is gorgeous (imo) and wiggled around for us. He/she has been really active all weekend and DH even got to feel a little kick yesterday.
Happy Monday!

MarchMum · 29/10/2007 11:57

Just got back from Paris shopping weekend with a girfriend - was grand! She humoured me and we went to all the maternity/baby shops we could find. I got some cool items to augment my basics from Topshop and about a million baby grows. Probably too many but I found some dialed down pink and lilac for LO. Also must mention gorgeous food - let myself have goat cheese and glass of wine as I'd been v.good all week.

Prisci - good luck with everything you have to do, Congrats to others, am jealous of your detailed scans - we got a fuzzy thing that was 'all healthy' but not such great detail. And e14, cracked up at saying your LO is gorgeous, still think mine looks like alien based on ultrasound! I have a 22 week appt at GP tomorrow - anyone else having this? I assume it will be regular pee in cup, measure, doppler, thanks for coming visit like the 16 week version. 10 minutes maybe??

Also having mother (MIL) issues - the 20 paces problem. I gave her a little 'appropriate' push back which caused a bit of drama (poor dh) but I wanted to set the tone for things to come. This is meant to be a positive time for us and we need to limit negativity when we can. Was also reading book last night on raising daughters (don't laugh - trying to embrace it!) which made the point that (for first timers anyways) we need to make transistion to being somebody's daughter/child to being someone's mother. I found that helpful.

hellyberry · 29/10/2007 12:54

argh! forgot i need to make a 22 week appt, thanks for reminding! yes marchmum, i think it is those basics again.

HolidaysQueen · 29/10/2007 13:10

Morning all -

I'm having a rubbish day today - feeling a bit low. I've been having an achy bump for days now. The baby is definitely moving - still not too strong as I'm only 19 weeks, but someone is definitely alive and kicking in there :-) - but I'm starting to worry about the fact that I have tummy aches and pains pretty much every day. I also have 3.5 weeks left before my next midwife appt and scan so it's ages before I can get any proper reassurance (which is all I need - don't think anything is actually wrong).

On top of that, there is a load of restructuring going on at work and it looks like our dept might be being disbanded as a result of that. I think I'm unlikely to get made redundant because I think they still need someone to do my job and because I'm pregnant, but I may have to go through a whole formal process of applying for new jobs and competing against colleagues etc. We're planning a couple of big spends at the moment (e.g. extension) before the baby arrives and now it looks like all that will have to go on hold until I know whether I still have a job and what job it will be. On top of that I really really enjoy working with my boss, and he's been brilliant about my pregnancy, and I think it unlikely he will continue being my boss. I'd agreed 4 day weeks with him from January to stop me getting so tired in the run up to the birth and of course any new boss may not agree to that. I can't find out anything more about it until a meeting tomorrow, but I'm finding it hard to relax and not worry until then.

Sorry to offload - I had a lovely weekend at a wedding, and it's lovely reading all your scan stories so that's cheering me up a bit - but I'm just having a bit of a worrying sort of day.

gingercat12 · 29/10/2007 13:22

Hello, everyone!

Sorry I was away seeing MIL. It was a lovely weekend. I could not read all the posts yet.

LO also worked out how to kick very hard (weirdly enough he did this while listening to football), and now he likes to practice it every so often

Good luck with this week's scan and congrats on last week's ones.

hellyberry · 29/10/2007 13:25

aw, sorry you're feeling ropey. aches and pains for quite some periods are normal - maybe that is a gram of reassurance for you? when i was a line manager (but in public service, so maybe more generous?) i would have to accept arrangements made by previous line manager and renogtiate if there was a major change of circumstances. but even with major changes like you predict, i stood by the real 'humnitarian' ones (like caring for parent with dementia, and another with illness in pregnancy). if you don't have an HR dept to check it out with, run it by someone more experienced in your sector?

turtle23 · 29/10/2007 13:31

Back to the subject of mothers...mine is refusing to speak to me about the baby until I'm in the 3rd trimester. Says it's all too scary. I'm so pleased that I have you lot to talk to as DH's tolerance level for baby conversation is very low, and feeling a bit alone.
Congrats to those who've had their scans and good luck to those with scans coming up!
HQ-chin up, at least they'll have to be overly careful as they can get into trouble very easily as you're pregnant!
A few days after my scan I'm having a homebirth assesment (at home) and appt with midwives. They've said it's just the usual routine again. Will be nice to have it at home though!

e14mum · 29/10/2007 13:45

hehe- marchmum, I mostly meant that we're absolutely besotted by this little baby! The profile pic we have is pretty cute though, although it sure was alien baby when they were showing us the lips and nostrils!!

How's this for outrageous- on Saturday was in Topshop because I'd heard their maternity bras were nice. Turns out they only had 2 styles- one maternity, one nursing. Then, turns out that the nursing one didn't come larger than a C-cup!!! I thought the sales girl was trying to be funny, but no, they only do it in A,B and C. ???

tori32 · 29/10/2007 14:04

Piggyp sorry to hear your kidneys are still playing up and hope you do feel better soon.

FNF Sorry to hear about you losing your friend, must be awful especially at the moment.

HQ I'm pretty sure that they will have to honour your arranged working hours, try not to let it grind you down. Did you manage to get anything in writing? Perhaps approach your boss at the moment and get him/her to put the agreement in writing so then it is binding.

everyone Hope you are all well and congrats on all the good news with scans and good luck to all those having them soon. Mine is Friday so getting quite excited now. DD keeps pointing to my stomach saying 'baby!' which is very sweet .
I'm still worried about the size of this baby.... on the last scan from dd they said she had long legs and came out at 9lb 12oz so I am waiting to see if this one has long legs too , so I can prepare to give birth to an elephant

Have a good week all, will try to keep up!

Prisci · 29/10/2007 14:56

Hi Everyone,

Marchmum,I am pleased you've enjoyed Paris indeed and made most of the shopping. I am glad to hear I am not the one going crazy on Babygrows .

Got an embarassing, pregnant moment on the Eurostar back yesterday. I have had a bad cold for a week or so, and with it comes a lot of nose bleeding (25% more blood). Anyhow, I sneezed yesterday and here come's the blood...so use my tissues but run out...so ask the guy next to me to help and get some toilet paper..he took ages..so much so that by the time he came back I had blood all over my dress...anyway it calmed down and I tried to explain to him it was due to Pregnancy, but I think he did not beleive me, as he was looking at me up dow...he must have thought it was due to coke ..gggrrrrrr then I went to get change and of course as I was so light headed I forgot to lock the toilet door...so a guy saw me only in my knickers and bras...so embarrasing and the guy I was seating next was so annoying... .

Anyway, at least had a great weekend, did not find any dress for the bridesmaid though, which means more looking and more time to spend on something...

A great week to everyone!!!

Brazilmum, are you allright?

P.

gingercat12 · 29/10/2007 16:48

Prisci I am glad that despite the nosebleed you still had a lovely time in Paris. I had a nosebleed at SIL this weekend. You are right, it is soooo embarrassing and so much more powerful in pregnancy. We all survived, but I felt very uncomfortable, too.

MarchMum · 29/10/2007 19:12

Just got outbid on two items on Ebay - so burned up! Please tell me it was one of you so I can feel better it went to a 'march mum'!

On the aches question, I plan to ask tomorrow at appt - how does one tell normal aches vs serious ones? as I also have that question. Will report back.

Prisci, maybe we passed each other in Paris this weekend?? I would have been the one gorging myself on French food and clearing out Petit Bateau. :.)

papaya · 29/10/2007 20:07

holidaysqueen - I too have an achy bump, and if i press it in certain places it feels tender. I have bought a bellyband from topshop and have found that a little of support seems to help me a bit. I have tried not to worry about it too much and have convinced myself its things moving about to make way for the growing baby.

I also keep getting a very tight belly/bump on and off, it goes really tight and then slackens off again, I never had any braxton hicks with DD (not that i noticed anyway) does it sound like those? But surely its too early for these to be happening??????

monthlymayhem · 29/10/2007 22:42

Hello

I've been getting the deep achey bump/tummy for the last couple of days now as well, and have been putting it down to things stretching. I forced myself to go to my normally gentle legs, bums, and tums class tonight....... .however the instructor was ill and we ended up doing boxercise! Really enjoyed it, but have a horrible feeling I got a bit carried away and will end up with sore legs/arms/neck, etc, etc tomorrow It does seem to have got rid of my tummy ache for the moment though...

fitnforty - sorry to hear about your friend x

Congrats on scan e14 and good luck to everyone else with scans this week.

Very jealous of all those maternity/baby shopping in Paris

imjin100 · 30/10/2007 07:52

hello all,
had scan yesterday and all went well. It took hours because the LO was so wriggly but all well, and we're very happy. It is a great feeling (sorry to those who don't get a scan)
HQ - sorry life feeling a bit tough at the moment and sorry about everyone with aches. I am now 22 weeks but about 4-2 weeks ago I really hurt on my tummy...I think the truth is they have growing spurts and when you see the scan you realise just why that might be uncomfortable (and tiring) for us.
I hope everyone feels better today and we have no dramas with our mothers, public transport, sore tummies or other such things.
Love to all.

gingercat12 · 30/10/2007 09:28

Imjin, congratulations!!!! How lucky you are that the scan took so long. I could watch mine for hours on end

fitnforty Sorry about your friend.

I also have some tummy aches, but mainly in the lower parts It is compensated though by very frequent bouncing around [little hearts emoticon].

My Dad was so sweet last night, I suddenly felt LO move and I said 'Oh, I can hear LO move.' He genuinely believed you can hear it. It is difficult to describe the sensation to men. I know it is a stupid thing to say I can hear it.

MarchMum · 30/10/2007 10:20

Just got back from 22 week appt and all normal - the baby is even a measuring a bit big but that was reassuring given my weight troubles. Anyways, I asked about the aches and the dr says most of them are normal stretching out type stuff. He said if they are persistent (don't go away from the same spot with rest or a couple hours) then it's worth checking out. The bad news here is it's only going to get worse...have a good day everyone!

HolidaysQueen · 30/10/2007 10:24

Imjin - congratulations! How lovely to see him/her for so long :-)

Ginger - I know what you mean about hearing the baby move. If I put my hands on my tummy I can feel him/her sort of 'floating' around in there and it feels like lots of vibrations so I do think I 'hear' the movement as much as 'feel' it

Thank you for all the reassurance on the aches - it has helped knowing I'm not the only one! Things were really really achy last night but I'd been on my feet all yesterday evening at Brownies and dealing with misbehaving 7 year olds and a faulty fire alarm in the church hall etc., so it was no wonder the baby was exhausted and causing me aches!

On job front, I've just found out that there is no natural role for me to move to, but three possible roles I could apply for. However I'll be competing against other people so it's all going to a bit angsty around here. I should know if I have a job or not by Christmas, hopefully sooner, and hopefully I'll get one. If I'm made redundant I'll leave by end Jan which is about the time I'd be going on mat leave anyway. Fortunately they have to give me 6 months notice, so I'll get full pay until end July anyway and then a redundancy package on top. So financially it will be no different next year anyway as I'll be on broadly same money as mat leave. It's just more the fact that I'd have to start looking for a new job when on mat leave. So I hope I get one of the jobs as that will just make life a lot easier! I'm feeling a bit better today if only cos I now know what is happening.

e14mum · 30/10/2007 14:40

Hi all.

I'm off to see the midwife this afternoon. I haven't met her yet, as last appt was with gp and booking was done by a locum.

Good to know about the aches and pains. Anyone else feel like their bits are all going to fall out? Now, that's going to get worse, I just know it!

I wish I was a bit braver- noone offered me a seat on the tube today eventhough I was standing right in front of them! ... I'm more in weepy shy mode these days, will someone reassure me that the bold hormones will kick in at some point!?

hellyberry · 30/10/2007 15:21

smiles at e14mum - if at no other time, wait til they're born, then you turn feriocious if you don't get what they need!

hellyberry · 30/10/2007 15:21

or even, ferocious
