New thread for you!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
hellyberry · 25/10/2007 21:13

papaya, me too re: pain worse than labour. it really helped, the codeine.

ALL: if you haven't already noticed it, you can change the threads to read how you like (even return it to previous). This link will let you change it.

derahcula, ooh that's a cool (aka hard as hell, different alphabet and all) language to speak!

hellyberry · 25/10/2007 21:16

papaya, a brief note on codeine in pg which is way more sensible than most blanket bans.

monthlymayhem · 25/10/2007 21:23

Thanks Papaya - good to hear, obviously not that you're also feeling achey, but reassuring that its not just me..

12 hours till scan

piggyp · 25/10/2007 21:37

papaya, it was so good to read your message. trip to gp has turned into overnight in hospital! im seeing urologist tomorrow. just very glad its not a prob for the lo. i'd never heard of it before so am glad not to be the only one! how long did it last and could you go to work?

derahCula · 26/10/2007 08:55

Morning ladies

Piggyp - sorry you're unwell and even had to stay in hospital. I hope baby moves and leaves your kidneys alone soon.

Glammama - mothers are sent to try us, aren't they! One day it will be out lo's on here, moaning about us!!

Monthlymayhem - I've been getting period-type pains now and then too. Like you, I've but it down to ligaments etc etc.

Well, it's Friday, yay!

imjin100 · 26/10/2007 09:29

morning all, most confused by new layout - what's that about....

sorry about hospital piggyp - hope you get out and feel better soon.
Glamama, I think that's a mother's role, they can do it fro 20 paces. mine is making an art of it at the moment. She hasnt' seen me for 3 months and yet keeps going on about my weight and the fact that i'll struggle to lose it...hardly encouraging and in fact I decided if she mentions it this weekend face to face I'm going to be brave and say something. I'm a grown up and need to stand up for myself...who am i kidding, I'll be in tears on MN!

Hope everyone feels better soon and has a lovely weekend ahead. I have my scan on Monday morning, can't wait HQ - i'll be 22 weeks - perhaps it's a london thing? ANyway - I'll be in touch afterwards but i'm afraid we're not finding out the flavour (although I think it's a girl but DH thinks/hopes it's a boy - at least one of us is right!)

good luck for scans today monthlymahem and anyone else. So excited, and just a bit nervous!

timmyinatizzy · 26/10/2007 09:39

No period style pains here, just a feeling that my belly needs to pop . My jeans are getting too tight now. Will have to force myself to go shopping for some maternity ones. Had a look in Mothercare last weekend and bought a pair of trousers that looked really nice, tried them on when I got home and they were way too big in my usual size, even when pulling the strappy thing on the side, plus they were too long. Aren't shorter women allowed to have maternity stuff? So do I stick to my normal size when choosing trousers/jeans . Help.

imjin100 · 26/10/2007 09:46

timmy, I'm also short and agree it's impossible! However, best solution I have found is that stick on hemming stuff you get from haberdashery departments... you just iron it on and it works really well and saves sewing or taking to a sewing person. As for the size....i'm in 2 sizes smaller which fit fine but I've been given them so the fact that they won't last as my bottom, thighs and tummy expland doesn't matter so much. I can see it would be seriously annoying to have to buy in smaller and normal size. Perhaps we should all put our heads together and design better maternity clothes. or petition the shops to have 'early pregnancy clothes' rather than so many of the sacks we'll all be filing soon enough.

preggersagain · 26/10/2007 10:33

morning ladies- its official i am the size of a beached whale! I am trying to find my damn camera to take piccies of how big my belly is, when i get them i'll put them up for all you lot to laugh at- believe me it will make you all feel like supermodels

I got stuck in the bath last night- poor dh was trying to heave me out- my hip had locked up (spd on top of previous broken pelvis- not a good combination, sympathy to all the rest of you will achey bits!) took about 20 mins to finally get me out- by which time i'd missed most of the prog i was getting out to watch

dh also had a go at altering the car seat position for me so i can drive without being wedged in- he managed to give me an extra few inches, but i'm virtually laying down to drive

anyone else suddenly pertified of the world? i am due to drive down to Sussex to visit my parents sometime in Nov, its usually no probs- jump in the car- on the motorway. But this time i am dreading it- i'm convinced that everyone is out to get me in some way and that if i venture onto the motorway i will end up having a massive crash- pesky preggy hormones!!!!

Prisci · 26/10/2007 10:38

Imjin, I agree, you would think that after thousands of year of making baby, someone would have figured it out : 'the perfect fit', but no....
For jeans, for the time being I have gone to wear extra low rise since I am small and thus size 6 maternity is just too big. DP, think it is hillarious, having to shop for Maternity wear in Abercrombrie and Fitch (in the US - half price), just seems odd....

I have started to do some baby clothes shopping, now that I know the sex, I know it is a bit early but I have to get everything shipped by December so.... FYI, Zara homes, has a great selection of bedding etc....similar to The White Company in quality and designs but half the price.

Going to Paris for the weekend to meet up with my Mum and sister to choose bridesmaid dresses...getting married next August...Well we are already married (it was just the two of us on beach - so easy), but we have to do the big thing for the family etc...It just feels odd, being pregnant, choosing bridesmaid dresses.

Really getting stressed at present, so much to get done: work, preparing for a move to Bermuda in December, having to organize almost all of the wedding by the end of the year December, renting the flat, organizing medical care abroad, DP being away ....grrrrr.....sorry hormones and a very bad cold talking...at least lo is healthy .

Have a great weekend everyone, will try not to moan on Monday.

P.

e14mum · 26/10/2007 11:46

So sorry to everyone who has to take their trousers up- but remember that us tall people can't add length! I've gone down a trouser size- but I think we'll all be outgrowing them before long and running gratefully towards the massive ones after Christmas... and not because we've eaten too much turkey either
imjin, my scan is on Monday too (21 weeks)! 9am... can't wait!

derahCula · 26/10/2007 12:09

I've gone up two trouser sizes.... soooooo embarassed!!

As for my mum - she's been making some comments about my weight too, and telling me how when she was pregnant with me she went on a diet when she got to the same weight as my dad cos she didn't want to be heavier than him! And she says this like it's a perfectly acceptable and reasonable thing to do! I only weigh about 2kg less than DH at the best of times so I'd have to give up eating altogether to stay smaller than him during pregnancy!

That being said, I am getting way too fat and need to stop using baby as an excuse to scoff endless cakes every day. More healthy snacks are in order......

imjin100 · 26/10/2007 12:44

E14, I will think of you at just the same time...well, perhaps not at the time but i'll think of you before as I nervously chew nails..! Dh is a bit worried about this one as he's heard horror stories. For once it's me reassuring him!

DerahCula, you made me laugh thinking about mothers! I stood on the scales today, it's terrifying but I have no idea what is normal and frankly my boobs seems to weigh about the same as the rest of my body so I'm going to get too hung up on it!
However, although i miss sweet stuff very much I'm actually feeling quite fortunate the MW banned me from them - I haven't cheated once and I'm sure it's saved me from extra weight...that said I'm dying for a piece of gooey banana cake and a hot chocolate....

HolidaysQueen · 26/10/2007 12:51

derahCula - if I tried not to weigh more than DH, I'd have to be at least a stone less in my non-pregnant state! He's one of those sickening people who eats like a horse and doesn't do huge amounts of exercise but only has about 10% body fat, whereas I am what one might decoratively term "Rubenesque"... Even more so now my boobs have gone really mad

I'm off to a wedding tomorrow where the bride and bridesmaids are all size 8, tall and gorgeous, plus always wear trendy clothes and are always fully made up whereas I normally spend about 2p on clothes and never wear make up. I've decided the only thing I can do to compete is flaunt my currently particular impressive cleavage... Is that wrong?

PurlyQueen · 26/10/2007 15:58

Afternoon everyone! I have been offered a seat on the Tube for the first time as a pregnant woman, so I guess I must be showing properly now!

LO has been really quiet over the past couple of days - does anyone else have a baby that's more active on some days?

Sorry to hear about your mum, Glamama - I know they think they're trying to help but you can help but wish they'd engage their brains before their mouths sometimes

e14mum · 26/10/2007 16:21

Ahh... that's just what I needed to hear PQ- yesterday was getting kicked, today not much movement at all. It's still early days... a friend of mine didn't feel hers until 21 weeks, so I won't be paranoid!!

3madboys · 26/10/2007 16:29

afternoon all

e14mum, this baby is normally really wriggly but yesterday he wasnt at all, i foudn myself worrying a bit but this afternoon he is back to his usual wriggly self i think it can depend on their position, the position of your placenta etc?

i am finally getting a bump when naked i have a def little baby belly, but i can still wear my jeans, with an elastic hair bobble at the top instead of doing up the top button i cant find any decent maternity jeans in a size ten short leg, have been looking on ebay but the postage seems to be expensive, tho there are some good bundles of maternity clothes

dp is home tomorrow so i shall go shopping with NO children and have a look for some jeans

good luck with scans and hope everyone is well

spugs · 26/10/2007 18:02

hi everyone, im lucky that im fairly tall so dont need to take up trs. ive always found maternity trs to be huge ( so you dont feel so bad when you pile on the weight cos your still a size 10!) topshops are about right though.

my bumps ben very quiet today which has ha me worrying as my mate was burning some basil oil when i went round yesterday, from what i gather it causes miscarriage due to causing contractions but i havent had any so im thinking babies just sleepy.

been down a mil's all week where ive been sutibly annoyed and wound up.

going to have some sparklers in the back yard later as the dd's had a late nap and will be up late

hellyberry · 26/10/2007 19:26

last i was there the mothercare on oxford street had a small range of petite mat clothes, maybe check out their website?

have had a looong day. ds has been early rising for a week again. with clocks about to go back, i can see that this way lies madness. so i've shortened his nap (that was heroic of me, i can tell you, i loved my long pm piece of peace), whirled him around 3 parks, given him a good massage post bath and kept him up a wee bit later than usual.

Fingers x'd for the morning.

monthlymayhem · 26/10/2007 20:18

Hello

Sorry to hear you ended up in hospital piggyp, hope you're feeling a bit better x

Well I had my scan today and it was fantastic! I was really unprepared for how clear and detailed everything would be at this stage, it really is a live kicking baby in there!! The sonographer even managed to check the baby's lips and could see that they were fully formed so no cleft lip etc, the four chambers of the heart were there, the brain was all as it should be, etc, etc... LO one was very cooperative and flipped onto his/her (we didn't find out!) tummy so the spine etc could be measured. And then just at the end we could actually see LO swallowing. It realy was fab and we got some really nice photos including one of it's little footprint

I also found out my actual Downs risk result (I had received a letter previously to say it was low risk but not actually what it was iyswim). The combined risk after the blood tests, age and nuchal fold was less than 1 in 20,000 so very pleased at that.

After scan I dragged DH round every baby/pram shop we could find in Glasgow and bought a few starter babygros and vests. It was tempting to go absolutely mad but I tried to be restrained We've also pretty much decided on the Silver Cross 3D and getting the Amby nature nest, so at least that's two big decisions out of the way. Rounded off the day with a lovely late lunch (with a celebratory half glass of rioja ) and then home for a snooze. All in all it's been a really fab day

Sorry this has been a bit of a book! Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

PurlyQueen · 26/10/2007 21:32

Congratulations on your scan. I'm so jealous of everyone who's had their 20 week scan. Mine is two weeks away and it feels like an eternity.

A hectic shift at work has worked wonders for the baby - I can feel something shifting around as I type!

preggersagain · 27/10/2007 09:53

morning ladies! hope everyone is feeling human again- seems to be a bit of an inbetweeny time atm- we've relaxed and accepted pregnancy but nothing really obvious is happening iyswim!

i'm playing with my new swaddlebees nappies, lovely soft fluff for the twins bums . Also for any of you planning on using washables the tommee tippee website is worth a peek- i'm not a fan of prefolds but the wraps that they are flogging off (for £2.50 ) are the bummis super whisper wraps- and i've always liked them- use them on dd as well, so i've ordered a shed load of them .

I've got my scan on Thursday so hopefully i'll know what flavour they are- i have already put aside various bits and bobs at work dependant on pink babies or blue ones (i'm still convinced they are boys btw )

last night i had a girly night in with a couple of friends- one suffered a v. early miscarriage earlier this week but she was very sweet about me and my bump- she lay listening with the doppler to them kicking away and trying to get both heartbeats at the same time! she said it helped in a way so that made me feel much better. HOWEVER this morning i have the hangover from hell- i only had a small glass of red wine with our spag bog! but i haven't touched a drop since getting preggers so i guess its my own stupid fault won't be doing it again (except maybe a smidge of baileys at chrimbo )

piggyp · 27/10/2007 11:04

It's the weekend!! Good news on scan monthlyamayhem .
Preggers again - that sounds very painfully, at least you weren't home alone. I'm worrying about normal stuff too - got to go on train journey in dec and sure someone will elbow me in the stomach!
Got home from hospital yesterday afternoon - with some paracetamol. It all seemed a bit over the top to have to stay in overnight only to have the initial squashed ureter / kidney diagnosis confirmed, but I guess it was reassuring. Still hurts though! One doctor cheerfully said that it may get worse untill LO is born! Oh well, think I may teach myself to knit!
The trousers problem is certainly getting worse, elastic band through the button hole and round the button + extra long belt and (crucially) long jumper to hide the undone flies is working for me ! I'm small to start with and all the maternity trousers in the shops look huge! I think my fat is moving around unevenly - arms and legs thiner tummy and boobs bigger!

hellyberry · 27/10/2007 18:07

piggyp, you could post in health and/or the pg threads on your kidney problem and see what other help/ experience people have had?

fitnforty · 28/10/2007 16:35

blimey it's been quiet on here all weekend, where is everyone? Surely not feeling well enough to go out and about rather than lazing in front of the tv on a computer?

My bubba is kicking like mad which is very reassuring, as i pulled or strained a stomach muscle the other night (turning over in bed would you believe!!!).

Met one of my friends who's preggers with her 2nd, due 3 days after me and it was weird comparing bumps...i'm officially "carrying low" to support the boy theory, while she has a nice neat popped out bump higher up so may well be due with girl number 2. Must say, it was good to get out for an evening since a couple of days earlier I heard that a good friend had died and was very down about it. Now just got to work out if i can get to the funeral as she lived about 4 hours drive from me. It'll be a traumatic day, but i'd feel worse if i didn't go

Anyway, sitting with my feet up relaxing today as DH is off to see the American Football at Wembley and won't be home until very late. Have eaten an entire chocolate trifle so will have to leave a couple of hours before eating something more, erm, nutritional
