Cheers for the feedback about movement, and yes, it is my first. Yesterday morning felt first definate kicks, even my husband could feel them from the outside. I cried. Then again, I cry at anything, which has only got marginally worse since being pregnant. Now I cry at every episode of Hollyoaks rather than just the ones vaguely believable emoting going on.

I've got a great pair of maternity trousers from topshop online - same size as I usually wear but they expand at the waist. My problem is all my tops are too short. Trying to look professional at work with 2 inches of skin showing isn't really working. Must shop more. People have been helpfully pointing out to me that I'm big for 21 weeks. What exactly am I meant to do with that helpful comment?

Has anyone tried to find their baby's heartbeat with a regular stethoscope? My dad lent me his which used to belong to his father and I couldn't find anything. I also had trouble locating my own heartbeat for a while so I'm not overly worried I just wondered when I might have more joy.

madcatlady · 24/10/2007 17:28

Hi m27

I'm 20 weeks (first baby) and you have asked the same thing that I was worried about - I'm not sure if I can feel anything or I just have gas I have my scan tomorrow so am trying not to worry till then.

I am crying all the time too - we went to a baby superstore at the weekend and I started bawling by the cots - my oh was horrified! I also cry at that sma milk advert on the tv, the one where the blokes make promises to their pregnant other halves.

Am delighted to be half way though...

Hellooooooo Ladies! Some of you have noticed my absence, as for the rest of you, bah!!! I'm at my folks in Manchester and I'm on one of my Dad's several PCs. I'm switching internet providers at home so poor DP is feeling very bored in the evenings.
Hello to all the newbies and hugs to those who need them, you know who you are! Hope everyone is doing ok. I'm off to find out where my cup of tea has got to! Well, better make the most of having a mum around. I will be able to be online until Friday when I go home so I will be keeping an eye on you all.
Take care and wrap up warm, you lot.

Ladies, sorry to interrupt... if any of you are in Merseyside and thinking about breastfeeding, please click here

Paranoid1stTimer · 24/10/2007 19:38

Talking of the 20-24 week anomoly scan, I won't be getting one - or any more scans - on the NHS as I live in South Lanarkshire Scotland. I know MonthlyMayhem lives literally 10 mins away from me but I think the area comes under Renfrewshire therefore they all get 20 week scans on the NHS!!! Outrageous?? Also, if you are obese (they keep this quiet here though) you get about 4 scans throughout cos they can't poke your tummy about. I aint getting obese just to get a scan but I mean how frikkin annoying!!! I can't afford £200 for a 20 week scan and I was taken into hospital with bleeding at about 15 weeks which still doesn't merit a further scan unless something really awful happens to me - god forbid!
Sorry for the rant amongst all the maternity trousers griping. I got a pair out from Mamas n Papas but they're too expensive to buy all maternity stuff from... sadly! I love that shop!

turtle23 · 24/10/2007 19:45

marchmum...You are a superstar! Got a friend of mine to bring me some a few weeks back (while DH was away) as I really craved them with cheese on top. She got me 5 boxes, and had promised DH would save him a bit as he'd never tried one. I have to admit to you (OH THE SHAME!) that not only did I not save him any but ate all 5 boxes in one sitting with half a kilo of cheddar. Honest.
Am I truly disgusting or what?
I have been dreaming of triscuits ever since. They make bump happy.

tori32 · 24/10/2007 22:23

Turtle I'm not quite sure whether you lo will appear as a doughnut, cake or triscuit now!!LOL

Thanks for support on clothes front.

PMSL at the thought of preggers driving with stilts!

Prisci · 24/10/2007 22:47

Glammama welcome back for a short while.

Gosh, paranoid1stimer, I really sympathise, it so worrying not to know if everything is all right.

Otherwise, I have some news....it is a boy
!!! Just got my scan and he definitely has little bits down there . Sorry, the balance is definitely going towards boys.

Also, at the scan, they changed (once again) my EDD for 6days earlier (matching with the day of my period), so I am now 18
+3/due the 24th of March. I am beleiving it, as any day gained, makes the big day nearer

Otherwise, went to a wedding this weekend (poor bride, she got really overshadowed by the Rugby match) there were several people at similar stages as I am, they looked all so much bigger, but the MW and GP say I am fine, so I guess I am ok.

On the trouser front, they are so annoying indeed, given up almost, now wearing dresses..so comfy...but what will happen when I can't shave anymore ....try H&M they have some A line which can work for a few months.

Have to go to bed now, still trying to recover from a bad cold .

turtle23 · 25/10/2007 07:16

Anyone else having problems sleeping? I'm so very tired. Couldn't sleep til 230, dreamt a lot, woke up at 6, have to get up at 630 anyway...yawn...

piggyp · 25/10/2007 08:42

What a lot of news, glad to hear about more scans (haven't read all posts though).
I've been in france for a couple of days - lovely and sunny and, well - French! Managed to come back with a dilated kidney, LO is squashing it apparently! Thought I'd pulled a muscle in my back but then, after fainting on a tour of a champagne cellar (how embarassing, thought i'd better get it checked out. Really impressed with french health care - clean, modern and very handsome doctors. Off to my GP this am because it really, really hurts! Anyone heard of this before?

hellyberry · 25/10/2007 08:49

no piggyp, never heard of that! hope your gp is some help. i REALLY like the idea of handsome doctors in france. though not with unshaven bits - they'd probably ask us to leave the country for lack of french level grooming

turtle, awful weird dreams interrupting sleep here. freakiest was the apples growing on my shins. i kid you not. ew. hopefully just a dream of fecundity, and not a hint ot get meself off to the nearest psychiatrist. unless the french also do a nice line in handsome psychiatrists, of course

imjin100 · 25/10/2007 09:25

morning all and congratulations Prisci - great news.
Sorry about the trouser issues going on. I've been lent a few pairs from my sister who is much much smaller than me so at the moment they fit, it wont' last! I leapt about with excitement the first time I put them on because they are a size 8 (never been an 8 in my life) DH says it doesn't count cos they are stretchy...I say it most certainly does! Anyway - doesn't help you guys as not really worth buying 2 sizes smaller but it does enable me to keep them up!
Paranoid1sttimer, sorry you wont' be gettint the scan, we live in the wierdest system where it truly is a post code lottery...sorry about that for you. It won't help but hugs to keep you going.

No idea what the swiss chalet chat is about....but they are creating quite a stir so the honest truth is I want one!
Turtle, i'm with you, sleeping is a nightmare at the moment. Can't get to sleep, finally drop off and then wake constantly - final straw 5am feeling so sick I thought morning sickness was back...not sure it's it's gone as still feeling pretty queasey...perhaps it's a bug!

MarchMum · 25/10/2007 10:11

Turtle - you could do worse than Triscuits. I ate two bags of Haribo for dinner last weekend.

Paranoid, shame on Scotland - no scans at bleeding or 20 weeks. Atrocious, we need to do a campaign or something!

I am also having sleep issues but every night it's something new - one night I can't sleep bc baby is moving around (kind of jumps from side to side in one movement -only does at night when I am on my back - perhaps a future ballerina? That'll be a lotta pink...), others I can't wake up in the morning and still others, vivid bizarro dreams (had affair with Pierce Brosnan last night, that was a good one and sure beats apples).

We have friends staying next weekend and the woman was like 'oh I am going to have such baby fever around you'. I told the husband I would counter balance by waking her up every time I did :.) heh heh

MarchMum · 25/10/2007 10:13

ps congrats to Prisci on scan and boy. My daughter is going to have alot of husbands to chose from! Is she still the only girl? Who will she chat on mumsnet with??

timmyinatizzy · 25/10/2007 11:29

Not been on for a few days been busy keeping the dsd's occupied for half term, but back at work for a rest today. Only got 1 week and 1 day until my next scan. Junior is being very wriggly now. And I can actually see the movement when I'm lying down. Its so sweet. Can't believe that its halfway or nearly for most of us now, doesn't time fly when you're having fun .

I'm sure that there will be a few more girls coming along soon MarchMum. I think Preggers thinks she may be having girls, so you'll two for the price of one there .

Prisci · 25/10/2007 11:50

French Doctors are often more handsome and since a french man is always a frenchman, they are often flirtatious which is always nice. Speaking from experience

Hygiene wise, I am french and it is true that they use less soap than any other EU nation, but I want to point out this is not my case...I am in Paris this weekend and the only thing I am dreading is taking the tube there, especially with the enhance sense of smell. I just can't figure out why people think it is ok, not to take a shower daily or twice daily grrrrr.....

Well either there are going to be a lot of potential husband or very many gay guys , I know very bad joke....

hellyberry · 25/10/2007 13:05

Funny morning. DS was robbed of his pannetone cake in the cafe by a lovely Weinemarer dog. The exceptionally handsome but sadly very gay (and not French) dog owner bought him another one as DS's lower lip wobble was enough to make angles weep.

Pannetone and Weinemarer only happen on Hampstead Heath, where the poshest dogs walk. Most of the time we are protecting a fruit slice from pitbulls in Kentish Town.

preggersagain · 25/10/2007 13:15

timmy- i'd love girls but i think its boys will find out next thursday- blimey this time next week i'll know whether i'll have sons or daughters- thats quite scary especially as i still think i'm early on in my pregnancy can't quite get my head round the fact that for me i am deffo already more than halfway through

MerlinsBeard · 25/10/2007 13:20

preggers, what time is your scan? mine is thursday too

glammama, i live near manchester whereabouts are you? (ish!) how long are you up for? oh and welcome back!

madcatlady · 25/10/2007 13:46

My scan is today, this pm, I'm just checking the forum as a way of not thinking about it as I am a bit of a worrier and keep thinking they might find terrible things... OH v excited though to try and find out the flavour.

cross fingers for me

prisci, je ne suis pas francaise mais je suis en accord, je connais plein de francais et il n'y a pas un qui a un problème de hygiène....mais le métro pue :0

preggersagain · 25/10/2007 13:54

mom- 9.20 i think then have to go and argue with consultant about birth plan etc- not looking forward to it tbh- but i'll prob be on cloud nine after the scan and agree to whatever hairbrained plan he puts to me

timmyinatizzy · 25/10/2007 14:05

Preggers. I shall send over copious amounts of pink fairy dust (curteous of dsd's) for you, but only if you send some blue stuff back

papaya · 25/10/2007 14:47

piggyp - i suffer frome the exact same problem and have had ultrasounds to confirm I have kidney ddrainage problem with my right kidney from baby laying on it funny. It was in absolute agony a few weeks ago, couldnt stand with pain I found that if you lay down on the OPPOSITE side to the pain, that gravity pulls/moves the baby a bit and gives temporary relief from it and can help the kidney drain. as i said it only affects my right so god knows what to suggest if your unlucky enough to get the problem in both! If it gets really bad apparantly I may need my kidney draining for me, but I have been pain free for 2 weeks now and keeping everything crossed it stays this was. If you google Hydroneprosis and babies you will get some more info as this is what I am apparanlty suffering from and it sounds like you are too. Also - I read somewhere that hydroneprosis is more likely to affect to the right side in pregnany, but cant remember where i read that or why that is the case.

nhs website

oh and midwife said to take paracetomal if pain gets v bad and if that stops working for the pain go to a&e as theres nothing the midwife can do to help, its urology you need!!

hth

papaya · 25/10/2007 14:51

also - when my doctor reffered me to urology she explained it wont affect the baby as we could get through a pregnancy on just one kidney, it will however be a very painful pregnancy if nothing is done to sort the kidney from draining. so dont panic about baby and get doc to check your wee to make sure you defo dont have kidney infection!!!

had to insert one of these with a hat sorry -

preggersagain · 25/10/2007 14:56

timmy- if it happens to be the other way round do you fancy a swap? 2 for 1? i am having nightmares about living with 5 men (8 if you count the pets)
