am impressed turtle that you didn't come on and ask us if we want to wee. repeatedly.

good luck with day 2!

turtle23 · 23/10/2007 21:45

spiritofnature.co.uk is giving away samples of Moltex nappies (disposable but eco-friendly) if anybody wants to try them. I've made my mind up to use reusables, but it never hurts to have stuff for free.
Merryberry...you're right, it was my first thought to ask whether you were all sure you didn't need the potty.

hello all, have been popping on but really busy at work and find myself with limited chat for some reason! Just longing for scan on monday and enjoying the gentle natter of other mumsnetters....although our thread seems much quieter these days!
Went out for dinner last night and a friend told us she's expecting her second, two months after me. So exciting. I think i find it more exciting to hear about new babies now that I am pregnant and I really appreciate all that sommeone has to go through to conceive and then hang on tight to the little bean in the early days..I never cease to be amazed by the miracle which just gets more impressive every day....have been feeling a bit of movement, generally late at night as I try to sleep...ummm...hope that doesn't last till after birth!
enjoy your day all.

imjin100 · 24/10/2007 10:09

did you see there is a july thread....we are definitely old news now!!!!

e14mum · 24/10/2007 10:54

Thanks for the info turtle, I've ordered my samples! Any free nappies are worth it.

triscuits, eh? Haven't had those for AGES!

Well, the big question for today is... do i put Standard Deviations on this graph, or SEMs? (Nerd-world here!) How the heck am I going to transition to nappies and feeding!?

HolidaysQueen · 24/10/2007 11:40

Ah imjin - I was thinking just this morning about whether there would be July 08 mums floating around yet or whether it was a bit early! I feel so old-school now

turtle - i'm off to get my free nappy samples as well - thank you!

gingercat12 · 24/10/2007 11:50

Turtle thanks for the advice on nappies, I ordered some samples, too.

I am also lurking in the background, keep pestering LO to move. Although he knows better. This morning I had such lovely tap-dancing in my bump [little hearts emoticon] that I almost woke DH up.

I have just received promotional photos taken last week. It is a good job I told the customer I am expecting, because it is pretty obvious .

hellyberry · 24/10/2007 13:01

me me me Miss e14! i remember this one! SD if you are demo'ing actual variation with accuracy as per bio data but sem if you suspect experimental variation has called the variation in mean and need or wish to show the accuracy of the calc of the mean. i always chose depending on what influence the data was hoped to have. and how irritatingly picky the audience were, or how tough the reviewers.

(coughs and shuffles off muttering about lies, damn lies and stats)

so, basically, enjoy the nappies and look, the stats will come back to you!

tori32 · 24/10/2007 13:20

Ahh, today is a blissfully better day than yesterday! All children are off sick so I am off work! Hurrah! DD also not well so is sleeping.( Bad cold, so nothing serious)

LOL at turtle with the potty training Good luck!

I am getting slightly worried about my lack of bump, its growing but still none of my maternity clothes fit me (size 14).

Also has anyone else been plagued with tongue or mouth ulcers? I seem to be getting them much more than I ever used to.

papaya · 24/10/2007 13:59

hi all, I have just got back from my antenatel appointment (18+6) and she casually booked me in for my next one on CHRISTMAS EVE!! 10 weeks away ??? I cant remember with DD how regular my appointments but I seem to think they were laods more regular than that! Just wondered if this is normal??

e14mum · 24/10/2007 14:17

Ahh... and I was just going to pick on which one looked nicest!

Thanks hellyberry for the reassurance.

ClaphamLauren · 24/10/2007 14:50

Papaya - I haven't had an appointment since my booking in with the midwife at 12 weeks(well not a scheduled appointment! A&E consultant one) and my next one isn't until 21st of December. Seems crazy but for me that's over 14 weeks of no contact, BP checks, urine etc.

I was assured when questioned that this is normal so I wouldn't worry

Sorry for lack of posting, been actually working

derahCula · 24/10/2007 14:54

Hello ladies and bumps

How is everyone? I'd had a bit of a mad day. Got to the nursery this morning and told them that dd had a little bit of an upset tum, but nothing serious, and they threw us out!! Apparently they have a tummy bug going round so anyone with any form of upset tum is banned for 48 hours. How rude! So I took DD into the lab for half an hour or so to tell everyone what was up and check e-mails etc, then took her home and waited for my mum to arrive to babysit. Luckily my mum is a teacher and it's half term so she wasn't at work today. I've run out of leave for the year and had told DD she wasn't allowed to get sick until the end of the year . Anyway, DD and I made jam tarm until my mum showed up, but they were still in the oven when I left so I hope they save me some!

Tori - don't worry about the maternity clothes. I've got a substantial bump (mostly blubber, the overhang is disgusting ) but maternity trousers just fall down. Elasticated skirts and trousers are the order of the day for now.

Papaya - I saw my midwife 2 weeks ago, and she doesn't want to see me again until Christmas. I'm quite pleased because it means I don't have to bother with her, and also that she's happy with the way the pregnancy is going. Your mw will be there if you need her for anything, but otherwise I'd suggest you just relax and not worry about anything for a while.

Merryberry and e14mum - stop it now, I'm allergic to stats!! Stats and long equations full of Greek letters. They make me break out in a cold sweat! Ah, the down side of being a biologist, they make you do stats! Ack ack!!

Right, time to stop slacking and get back to work.....

gingercat12 · 24/10/2007 15:04

derah I am absolutely "massive" - quote from my DH. Why do maternity trousers fall down all the time? I feel a complete freak, and also quite cold in the back.

I have a little list of how often I am supposed to have AN appointments, and I am seen approximately every 4 weeks by somebody.

imjin100 · 24/10/2007 15:10

I've just had an email from a friend who has just had a baby (or his wife has at least). really sweet and reminded me that in a little while that will be our exciting news...all being well. Right now my bump is not regularly active so it's easy to forget and just to feel fat....that is if I dont catch sight of my boobs in a mirror cos if I do that there can be no other explanation surely!
Feeling a bit sick today which is dull. has put me in a filthy rather hormonal mood - feel like i've got pmt....luckily am alone at work or lives could be lost and dh out tonight so intend to mope about myself feeling pathetic so I wake up full of the joys of spring tomorrow.

derahCula · 24/10/2007 15:10

Maternity trousers are stoopid. I remember them all falling down right until the end last time.

I've got a black jersey pair of maternity trousers with a fold-over waistband that I'm wearing at the mo, but I still need to wear an elastic belt under the folded waistband or they fall down.

As soon as my bump gets a bit bigger (maybe at 6 months?) I'm going for dungarees!!

e14mum · 24/10/2007 15:20

Yup. I spend half my time pulling up my trousers these days. Mind you, I'm sure I do it to myself, as today I am wearing low-slung jeans with button undone, belt and bump band. God bless the person who invented bump bands!!

Derah, at interview for current job, was required to do presentation on some data and statistical anaylsis on it... boss said at the end of it, "you haven't actually done any statistical analysis, have you?" To which I replied, "uh.. no, I guess not!"
Must have impressed them with other skills- like sense of humour and quick thinking-because here I am! Love research- hate the stats!

MarchMum · 24/10/2007 15:41

turtle - yes to triscuits. if you are coming to dec meet-up, anybody else want something from US/Can? am esp sympathetic to cravings! (the cdns will laugh - after i land, i am heading straight to swiss chalet...)

MarchMum · 24/10/2007 15:42

also hate maternity pants - look like farmer pulling up my pants in exaggerated manner every 5 min

HolidaysQueen · 24/10/2007 15:53

e14, derah - I thought it was just me who spent my whole life hoiking up my maternity jeans! I end up having to tie my belt really tightly to keep them up which means they aren't very comfy which kind of defeats the point. I normally live in trousers and jeans, but I'm now surviving in skirts and dresses which are much more comfortable. I bought a fabulous wrap dress from Crave when I was about 6 weeks pregnant which was expensive but I wear it all the time as it is so comfortable, so was definitely worth the money in the end. The advantage is as well that I could wear it post-baby as it doesn't actually have funny webbing or ruching and it is so lovely I may well do that!

Also, I felt the baby move spontaneously for the first time earlier this afternoon - I was just sat at my desk and felt a couple of little movements in my tummy which were definitely not wind! Until now I've only felt the vibrations when lying down with my hands on my tummy. I'm very happy!

PurlyQueen · 24/10/2007 16:12

Ha ha - this talk about maternity trousers is making me laugh out loud. I even tried going down a size but I still have to hoik them up with a belt.

preggersagain · 24/10/2007 16:21

are you lot trying to make me feel fat and frumpy my maternity trousers fit me perfectly atm! then i do have a bump the size of a spacehopper i guess maternity wear is made for twin mummies!!!!

hope you're all ok- i'm amazed at how big i am already- i'm squashed against the steering wheel because of my diddy legs- dh has suggested driving in stilts

e14mum · 24/10/2007 16:25

oh flips, swiss chalet!! marchmum, you lucky thing! My DH will never understand how much I love that place (as he's a Brit). I'm sure most of you have never been there, but if you're having salty cravings, you'd be in heaven!
I suppose a quarter chicken with fries and lots of sauce wouldn't survive the trip?

What about braces to hold up the trousers? (Or suspenders as we call them in Canada- don't use that word here or you get v.v. weird looks!!) Anyone brave/trendy enough to try?

ClaphamLauren · 24/10/2007 16:29

I have some very very cute braces that go with my tweed maternity trousers, my dp thinks I look adorable in them and apart from not being high waisted, they're very "on trend".

Embrace the braces!!

PurlyQueen · 24/10/2007 16:43

This talk about cravings is making me miss my holiday treat - salt and vinegar flavoured pork scratchings!
