New thread for you!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
hellyberry · 19/10/2007 16:20

Oh dear, oh dear.

the pelvic floor song
(to the theme tune from friends: )

'i'll be there for you
when you don't want to pee
i'll be there for you
so your coughs won't make you wee'

etc

imjin100 · 19/10/2007 16:27

panic about pelvic floor, but all this chat has made me strike a deal with myself...I will do pelvic floor whenever I am on mumsnet...on the basis that i'm addicted to mumsnet we shouldn't have any problems!!!

Welcome to the new ladies...and who mentioned christmas, please no not yet! I still have so much 'life before children' to have and thinking about christmas now will wish life away too quickly!

Glad the show was fun, I'm not going so don't want to know that they handed out free prams, free cots or free food....!

Still in a dilemna about the pram thing, Have decided to look aagain in January when the pressure will be on a little bit. Right now I just dont know the answer. Thought I'd decided on Phil and Ted (this lo is our first but saving for next time!?!) but a friend says she struggled to learn how to 'drive' her much smaller pram so she thinks i'll be a liability....and so it goes on.

Sorry for ramble, on my own in the office - can you tell!

3madboys · 19/10/2007 16:38

hello all welcome to the newbies

i have bought some nappy wraps etc from ebay and mumsnet, so i am sorted on the nappy front now, tho i need to get a little waterproof bag for dirty nappies when out.

pushchair wise i have a bugaboo and loola, there is NO WAY dp will let me get another pushchair.

i have become rather sadly obsessed with bouncy chairs we had one that we used for ds1 and ds2 but it died a death after getting sat in by a rather large toddler. with ds3 i just used the little first stage car seat, but ihave decided a bouncy chair will be useful, esp as they are lightweight and you can drag it around the house easily

however the choice in the damn things is riddiculuos, at the moment i have two that i like, a stripey one that is in jojomamambebe catalogue, and another one, by a company called "jam and jelly"? who i have never heard of but they seem to do baby equipment, anyway it was cute and has stars all over it it also vibrates and has a hood? god knows what i would need the hood for and i am not sure about the vibrating function either, but it looks cute however i cant decide between the two and i am amazed at how my brain is deteriorating to mush, its a soddin bouncy chair, but it feels like a major dilema ...........

e14mum · 19/10/2007 16:45

If you want help deciding 3mb, go for the stripey one. I'm good at making other people's decisions for them.... just not my own!

thanks for the song hellyberry- will play over and over in my head as i embark on a new me- pelvic floors galore!

imjin100 · 19/10/2007 16:46

3madboys, you are the expert but someone told me the other day to avoid vibrating chairs as they can overstimulate....might be an extra too many.....
totally know what you mean about becoming obsessed by things....quite ridiculous how important it suddenly all seems...and presumably nothing is forever and if you get it wrong...well, although an expensive mistake it's not the end of the world....
I think I think that anyway!

derahCula · 19/10/2007 21:15

Hello ladies

I've found myself without anything interesting to say for the last few days (is this really me?!? ) but back on posting form this evening.

Very exciting news about all the scans, though somewhat jealous as I still have 2 weeks to wait. So many boys!! I hope there's some boy dust left for me, cos I'm convinced this one is a boy and DH will never let me live it down if I'm wrong after being so sure! (He's sure it's a girl, and I'd hate for him to be right!).

Whatever flavour the little one is, it's certainly getting active! It's just so lovely feeling them move!

This morning I think I had my first encounter with Braxton Hicks. Never had them with DD, but after a little, um, bedroom action it felt like baby was doing backflips and then my bump went all hard. Most odd!!

I'm impressed that so many of you are getting so organised with baby equipment. But I suppose if this was my first baby I'd be getting stuff done too. But since all I need is a chest of drawers and a bath support, it's hard to be too enthusiastic!! It is nice not having to worry about getting stuff though.

3MB - we had a vibrating bouncy chair for dd but she never liked the vibrations so I wouldn't worry about that. What I did like about her chair was that she could actually reach the dangly toys from an early age, and she loved batting at them. I've seen lots of bouncy chairs that either don't have any toys (boring!) or have them hung up out of the reach of tiny babies (frustrating!). Ours was by Safety First, and I'd highly recommend it.

Welcome MumOfBillyTheKid!! CL - so sorry about your crap idiot DP. You're being so strong, brave and practical about the whole thing. Well done you! And well done on remembering your pelvic floor exercises too. You'll be really glad of them later on!

As for the girls and pink situation - I'm not a pink fan (though I will actually wear it now, used to hate it with a passion) and always try to get DD not-so-pink-clothes. Most of her clothes are hand-me-downs though and lots of it is pink. But lately she's SOOOOOOOOOOOOO into pink it's crazy!! She wants pink pants, pink socks, pink shirts, the pink rolling pin at toddler group etc etc! I'm not a "girly" girl and really didn't want dd to be girly, but I've accepted that I'm fighting losing battle!!

Hellyberry - oooh, a child-free morning! So jealous!!!! Did you have a good snooze?

MarchMum - sounds like a great deal on the bamboo nappies. And now you can stroke their lovely softness for the next few months!

Right, enough rambling, time for pizza (YAY!!)

fitnforty · 19/10/2007 21:23

www.willywigwams.com/

For those worried about the little sprinklers since so many boys are expected here
Friend got given one as a present when her boy was born, don't think they ever bothered to use it but I do like the idea

e14mum · 20/10/2007 10:08

yikes!

gipsymama · 20/10/2007 12:01

hi there, me again. Thanks for manuka honey advice for colds and sore throats, yum!

My scan was on Thurs and it was a v emotional day too. Sorry to say that I'm adding to the huge number of boys on here, I'm afraid, but we're delighted. This will be the last one for us and, as we already have a DS, it's perfect! Also, they were able to confirm that the leaky heart valve, although still present, is not anything to worry about and have moved me back down to low risk for Downs. Oh it was such a relief, as I'm sure you can imagine. A happy happy day, added to by DS learning to ride her bike without stabilisers and us just busting with pride. I can't ride a bike at all and here she is, a 5 yr old, zooming round without fear and loving it.

So, this more than makes up for all the worried nights in the past few weeks.

Welcome to all new thread-members!

I am LOVING the willy wigwam idea, as the idea of getting pissed on at each nappy change was NOT a pleasant one. How middle-class and wonderful. I am going to buy one immediately.

gipsymama · 20/10/2007 12:04

just realised put DS twice - but we have a DD!!! I am dim.

3madboys · 20/10/2007 13:04

i think i will go for the stripey, non vibrating bouncy chair, tbh i couldnt see the point of the vibrating anyway, although it says its to help them sleep?

with regards to boys that pee everywhere when you change them, we have always just had a muslim cloth to hand and stick that over their willy whilst changing them you can get quite good at telling when they are going to wee tho, there are tell tale signs you get quite good once you have had three boys

i have a horrible cold and cough, courtesy of ds2 an ds3 who have both been ill and given it to me

does anyone know where i can get size ten maternity jeans with a short leg? next didnt have any, nor did topshop, h&m or anywhere else i tried at the moment i am wearing regular size tens with an elastic band round my top botton which i imagine will be ok for a few more weeks maybe? i am 21wks now, i cant remember when i got a proper bump with the boys? but i am sure it was about 25ish weeks and typically i am going away to london for a wkend when i am 25wks, so i need something nice to wear

good luck with scans xxxx

barrowclaire · 20/10/2007 17:39

have to let you girlies know, daft as it is, that DH was reading the posts over my shoulder and thought willy wigwam was a cartoon character! lol
i dread to think the sort of cartoon he'd be in

xxx

MerlinsBeard · 20/10/2007 18:16

no no no noooooo don't get willy wigmwams! what a waste of money!

open the nappy carefully, thenclose it aqgain for a few seconds as they usually pee when the air 'gets them', when you open it for the second time just do it carefully, put a muslin over the change mat and have the clean nappy open and ready so you can change mega quick.

simple

and free

hellyberry · 20/10/2007 18:36

...and not all of them do it. ds peed during nappy change only once that i can remember.

turtle23 · 20/10/2007 19:22

Alternately, you could always paint targets on the ceiling.

OP posts:
fitnforty · 20/10/2007 20:50

ta for the hints on nappy changing - though i wouldn't have heard about little boy habits if it hadn't been for my friend getting the wigwam Don't plan to buy it, but wouldn't object to it as a daft pressie!

Spent a fun day at the baby show, though due to traffic we didn't actually get in there until after 12, set off from home at 9! Have not bought as much as DH anticipated but have bought more than i expected.... got a set of Tots Bots bamboo nappies in the rainbow colours, a floppeze nursing pillow thing which the dog adores, and 2 cuddledry towels (more bamboo) as I'm thinking one of them will also do nicely for keeping me dry when bathing the pooch! Oh, and got one of the Close wrap sling things. Cue much amusement from DH at me panicking when having to try it out with a pretend baby and not knowing how to hold it or move the legs etc...how am I going to cope with a real one! Didn't get any travel systems/pushchairs, but did wheel a few around....love the Stokke, Preggers, but blimey it's pricey for all the bits!
I was a bit worried as well when looking at the travel systems that most of the weight seems to be in the actual car seat! Am wondering whether to just get a car seat to keep in the car and go for a folding pushchair/carrycot thing for when out and about as I don't think i'd be able to lift the car seat when there's a baby inside! More confused than ever

littleducks · 20/10/2007 20:53

midwife suggested taking of the babies sock and putting that on, might be easier to have to hand

i think it is a bit OTT to as i only have dd maybe i have lots to learn! and thinking about dh used to be so slow changing dd she used to pee everywhere, i now remember having to wash the duvet

m27 · 20/10/2007 23:35

Hello. This is my first post. Ever. On any chatroom. Apologies if I get any of the chat etiquette wrong. I have a question - I'm 20 weeks and haven't felt any movement, I don't think. Does anyone know how much babies can move around right now? I was wondering because at the scan on Thursday the little one was facing inwards and I thought maybe that was why I couldn't feel any kicks yet. But is it likely that s/he will have been turning around loads and I just haven't felt it?

gipsymama · 21/10/2007 00:06

Hi M27 - well done for taking the plunge! Is this your first pregnancy too? If so, you're likely not to recognise movements or feel things as early as when you know what to expect the second time around.

In short, yes, it is possible for them to be moving around a lot and for you not to feel it if they (or you) are in a certain position. I find that if I lie in bed and roll over so i'm two-thirds lying on my tummy, then bend the knee on my uppermost leg up to my bump, this compresses matters and makes the baby move (or makes its movements noticeable). I do this sometimes as a check if I haven't felt a wriggle in a while .

Was there plenty of movement on the scan? If you are worried though, get your midwife on the case, that's what they are there for.

Best of luck and welcome to mumsnet

x

gingercat12 · 21/10/2007 12:10

m27 I feel very little movements, because my placenta is in the front. Also I am rapidly gathering my fat reserves for breastfeeding But I could see on the scan that my LO is very calm. Sometimes he is very active, but most times seems to be quite peaceful. Just like his Dad. I am sure the midwife would be happy to reassure you.

modsaluk · 21/10/2007 12:28

Hi all not been on here for so long, we sold our house two weeks ago, then went on holiday to Butlins for a week. When we got back it was a mad rush to find a new house but there was nothing out there for us, the person buying our house is a cash sale so i believe it goes a lot quicker.

Anyway through a friend of a friend we managed to view a house we had been waiting to view for about two weeks but the estate agents were terible. She said we could go and view the house but it was getting re-possessed from them but they could still sell. We viewed the house on Friday and fell in love with it, there is a little damage in one of the rooms but should not take too much time to sort out.

So i finally feel a little settled, will not feel completely steeled until we move in though which should be before Christams.

Anyway back to baby talk, i started to have fluttering feelings about two weeks ago but they seemed to have stopped unless i am just used to them now and not noticing them as much. I have my next scan on 8th November so very jealous of those of you that have had yours although very happy for you though. There seems to be a lot of boys lol. I think i am having a boy and a girl, but suppose the scan will tell me i am wrong.

My nipples have been hurting in the cold weather, i have been suffering with a cold so everytime i sneeze or cough i wee a little, did not really do any pelvic floor exercises with my DS but think i will have to this time did nto really think it would make any difference but so embarrassing when it happens.

Does anyone know whether you can get a twin pram where it is one in front of the other the ones we have seen are side by side and i have been told they are quite hard to get through doors in shops etc not sure how true this is so any advice would be appreciated.

ANyway enough of my blabble, glad you are all well i have not had time to read all the messages as i have missed too much but has anything exciting been happing ?

spugs · 21/10/2007 13:35

mods - i think i candy do one like that and you can get carrycots.

tried to be a normal non preggers person last night and went to a party at my friends who lives 2 1/2 hrs away! we camped in his garden and it was bloody freezing. had to have a lie down at 8 cos i felt sick hen went to bed at 11pm didnt get any kip though cos of the pissed kareoke that was going on. now if i was in my normal state it would have been great as i would have been drunk as a skunk and joining in. but when sober you really notice how annoying pissed people are. was nice to see everyone, but was lying ther at 2 am wishing i hadnt bothered and was inmy own bved. drove back this am and driving to portsmouth (6 hr drive) tonight to see annoying in laws

monthlymayhem · 21/10/2007 14:43

Hello

Great news on your scan gipsymama, you must be relieved

Hello to all newcomers!

3madboys - how about Dorothy Perkins (www.dorothyperkins.com), they do maternity jeans in short, long and regular in a few different styles.

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend x

3madboys · 21/10/2007 14:43

afternoon all

i have caught a bug of ds2 an ds3, and i feel like death warmed up, not nice at all and dp has been away since friday morning, he will be back mon evening ds3 is still poorly, coughing loads and waking during the night, luckily the other two are playing quite nicely. i phoned a friend in tears as i really felt like i couldnt cope being on my own with the boys today horrible, but its 5 hrs till bedtime now...

with regards to double pushchairs, our age gaps have meant we have been able to avoid them tho we have got the bugaboo board.

i had a friend with twins and she had the mountain buggy double, which looks nice and is actually not very wide at all, you can also put either two seperate carrycots on it or one twin carrycot, which i thought was nice the new icandy thing looks cool too if you like the look of the bugaboo then there is a double which looks similar to that, its a side by side, and you can get it on ebay, i forget what its called tho will have to get back to you on that one

bump is really wriggly, which is nice, esp when i am ill, i find it very reassuring

i am off to have a bath with ds3 and hopefully that will make us both feel better...

gingercat12 · 22/10/2007 09:48

I have to be quick, as I am banned from the computer. My DH saw me checking the willywigwam site (LOL), and he said it is a University computer, so I am banned. But he was laughing, too

gipsymama I totally accidentally tried what you said and put a bit of pressure on my tummy when lying down, and he instantly started to kick. Very gently mind. It was so sweet [little heart emoticons]

3madboys Hope you are feeling a bit better now. I have a bit of cold, so stayed at home, but I do not have children to look after (yet), so it is so much easier for me.

spugs Good luck with all the driving and the in-laws.
