@MooseWL my little one was 7lb 11 and newborn is very tight on her! I can still use them but there’s not much room at all so we’re using mainly up to 1 month (but some of those are huge on her so I don’t think you can win!)

Sara7455 · 22/09/2020 08:32

@MooseWL it seems to vary from one shop to another. I was sorting Wren’s clothes at the weekend and some newborn seem to be up to 7lb5 (or thereabouts) and others up to 10lb. I think you’re better going off weights rather than the suggested ages tbh

OrDis · 22/09/2020 08:47

Congrats @Cox2020 and @Lazydaisydaydream! I’m overdue now (only two days atm)- trying hard to think of things to do to pass the time!!!

Cox2020 · 22/09/2020 09:25

@MooseWL
They predicted my little one was going to be an 8lb baby and long. He arrived weighing 9lb 7!
I didn’t bother with any newborn clothes and was a good decision as even some up to 1 month I took struggled to fit when he was born.

LatteLover12 · 22/09/2020 09:32

@MooseWL no! The midwife took one look at the newborn babygro and laughed! 😂

Thankfully I have stockpiled lots of 'up to one month' clothes and they're perfect.

Baby was 9lb 6oz 😳

MooseWL · 22/09/2020 09:47

Haha thanks all, glad I've not got too many newborn things then! Will prob be in 0-3 quickly then which is what I've got the most of, so will keep my bag packed with the up to one month stuff 😊
@sara7455 it's crazy how much it varies between brands I've tried to sort stuff by lining it up next to each other and comparing the sizes!

Lorna198 · 22/09/2020 09:52

@LatteLover12 yes! Whatever thread this moves on to. I love knowing I have this little bubble I can turn to if needed!

Congratulations @Cox2020 and @Lazydaisydaydream

Just a few more to go now. Good luck ladies!

Sara7455 · 22/09/2020 10:00

@LatteLover12 yes I think that’s a good idea too.

@MooseWL I know! He’s fast growing out of things at the moment so it’s becoming increasingly obvious that no one seems to be in any agreement on what sizes work for different ages of baby!

LatteLover12 · 22/09/2020 10:04

The babies are here! September 2020 www.mumsnet.com/Talk/birth_clubs/4030380-the-babies-are-here-september-2020

I've had a go...come and join me 😄

Lilice · 22/09/2020 11:41

Congratulations to all the new mamas! Good luck to the mamas to be, not long now 🥳

My baby is 7lb05 and newborn stuff is quite tight, but like mentioned above it depends which brand she's wearing. Definitely not using tiny baby things lile i dod with my other 2.

How are you doing @Chanel05 ? Hope you're better, thinking of you x

Roxy8203 · 22/09/2020 12:06

@MooseWL we are using cloth nappies and have done since day one. They are actually a lot easier than I thought they would be and I love all the funky colors. I borrowed a newborn set from a nappy library and brought a set. It's lovely that my other half is onboard with it too and making sure the laundry is done so we don't run out. We have had a few leaks but I think that's just us getting used to how they work. He was only 7lb so I'm glad we got new born nappies and clothes, everything else would have been too big

Roxy8203 · 22/09/2020 12:08

Little man rocking his red pants

MooseWL · 22/09/2020 12:17

Aww good work @roxy8203 they look so cute. I've just got a few little lamb size 1s so will mix those with disposable at first but if he's the size they say he's going to be won't be long before he's in the b2p ones anyway! Good to hear it's not as hard as you thought, my partner needs convincing but hoping he'll get on board!

Just sat waiting for the midwife roasting in my mask 🥵 supposedly the last day of heat today though.

Roxy8203 · 22/09/2020 12:29

Good luck @MooseWL. Im also going to try terries when the hire kit goes back, hopefully they aren't too bulky.

Oh those masks 🙄😷

MooseWL · 22/09/2020 13:50

My midwife appointment was totally pointless. She essentially said "so why are you here". I think I was booked in because the different midwife last week wanted to keep an eye on my totally normal blood pressure 🙄 today she was like yeah I don't know why it's totally fine and you've declined a sweep at 40 weeks so we don't need to see you until 41 weeks.
I've felt like my community midwife care throughout has been pretty pointless tbh.

ChipsAreLife · 22/09/2020 14:03

@MooseWL that's so frustrating. Agree care has been absolutely shite on occasion!

@Lazydaisydaydream @Cox2020 congrats!!!!

@LatteLover12 I'll head over!

My boy was 9lbs 8 we skipped newborn and one month fit for about a day. He's in 0-3 and some 3-6. He's really long. Had him weighed yesterday and he's 10lbs 5oz 🐷

OrDis · 22/09/2020 14:18

Oh @MooseWL that sucks. Didn't they do the usual checks, fundal height, bp, heartbeat etc? They should surely be doing those just for reassurance not fobbing you off until 41 weeks!

MooseWL · 22/09/2020 16:44

@OrDis she did listen to the heartbeat and check my BP. Said she wasn't going to measure as it was done a week ago. I kind of thought I'm here so surely you may as well do it? I just feel like the majority of my midwife appointments I've been in and out the door as fast as they can manage really they haven't really given me any useful information.

When I've had to go to the hospital the midwifes there have been a lot more useful and friendly.
Hopefully the baby will be here by 41 weeks and I won't have to go again!
(not holding my breath though!)

WillowT · 22/09/2020 19:09

@MooseWL I feel the same about the community midwives too! Not had a good experience and haven't explained anything to me. I've had to push to get questions asked as they just want me to leave. Also tick stuff in my notes to say they've discussed it with me when the havent!!

Hospital midwives on the other hand have been superb when I went in with reduced movements and explained everything and all my options!

ShiningStarz · 22/09/2020 21:22

I found community midwives brilliant! Don't forget vit d drops daily x

Chanel05 · 22/09/2020 21:24

@Lilice thank you :) definitely on the mend now.

I pushed for several hours although baby was back to back. Was assured 110% by consultant I wouldn't need a section as I requested one before pushing to avoid her getting stuck! Pushed for nearly two hours and she got stuck, attempted suction with pushing for half an hour with no luck. Surprise surprise, went to emcs and as she was so incredibly low, they had to open other parts of my womb to get her out causing huge blood loss and transfusions, as well as further surgery! Home finally but very sore.

Ladies, what are your babies sleeping in? Mine is 7 11 and we've put her in a blanket for swaddling but I think I'd feel happier with something else.

Lilice · 22/09/2020 23:59

@Chanel05 glad to hear you're on the mend. Sounds like you've been through a lot. Must be frustrating that they didn't listen to you. My baby is 7 lb 05 and we use the miracle swaddle blanket at night
www.amazon.co.uk/Miracle-Blanket-17415003-Swaddle-Pink/dp/B00387OT18?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

And just a normal blanket or long muslin cloth during the day

Margo34 · 23/09/2020 00:09

@Roxy8203 and @MooseWL I'll be using cloth nappies too, it was actually my DH idea he is totally on board (at the moment but baby isn't even here yet and neither is a mountain of washing) 😂 but my parents disagreed and bought us truck loads of size 1 disposables and a huge multipack box of wet wipes and nappy sacks 🙈 we'll use some of those to start with in hospital but switch ASAP on returning home and donate the disposables - that's the plan anyway (sorry mum!). The LL size 1 pocket nappies look so big! I bought a mini selection of newborn nappies mainly muslinZ and wraps, have a small selection of BTP nappies for later on but I'm actually more tempted by terries the more I hear about them and ease of washing/drying. Will be interested to hear how you get on with terries, @Roxy8203!

@Chanel05 hope you recover smoothly and quickly! My baby isn't here yet but we've been recommended these swaddle bags by another recent mum friend who said they were a sleep game changer, we'll be giving them a go too: www.lovetodream.co.uk/

Roxy8203 · 23/09/2020 00:23

@Margo34 I'm hoping terrys work out well but if your interested this is the set I brought, it's a bargain. www.thenorfolknappycompany.com/product-page/alvababy-newborn-nappy-set

Sara7455 · 23/09/2020 00:26

@Chanel05 that’s terrible you poor thing! Glad you’re on the mend now though!
I’ve just been using well tucked in cellular blankets (feet to foot of the bed and tucked in below his shoulder level), it’s what he had in hospital and still that way now at 7lb4. He wakes up at the other end of the snuzpod with no blankets regularly though. Can’t wait for him to be big enough for a sleeping bag!
